It is funny to me that people think Georgia got screwed when any of the 4 teams playing yesterday would have done the same thing to that Florida State team that they put out for the bowl game.

Now the real question. Does Washington have to play Oregon again before Michigan or do they have to beat Michigan and then play Oregon for the national title?

UGA definitely didn’t get “screwed over”. But I do think they’d have a better than 50/50 shot at beating all 4 of these teams.

And yet when they had the chance to punch their ticket to the CFP, they choked.

they got beat barely by a very good team. Replay that thing Ten times and they probably split 5-5.

Weirdly ... had Georgia lost to Alabama in early October (probably dropping at worst to 6) then beat someone else** in the SEC title game, the Bulldogs moonwalk into the Top 4 with that same one loss. A lot of happenstance.

Will Penix have enough time to operate, and will he be able to nail some deep throws to his elite WRs if the running game gets shut down (as is likely)? Washington OL vs. Michigan DL should be a great - and key - battle.

Penix has really developed manipulating the pocket and selectively choosing when to run. Milroe is the first real duel threat this defense has faced all year and he ran for 112 yards on 15 carries (removing all of the sacks). I wonder if DeBoer will learn his lesson from the semi's and just put the ball in Penix hands and say go win. The Washington run game will get shut down again and his desire for balance almost cost them the game - turned it over on down with three straight runs in the 2nd, had to settle for a FG after doing the same in the 3rd, and were still at the 10 after 2 straight runs in the 4th before an incompletion then FG. Embrace a high variance game and try to force Michigan into a track meet is their best chance at a dub.

I'm not sure letting Michigan pin their ears back knowing it's all passing all the time is going to work that well. For the above to work they also have to figure out how to stop Michigan's running game. I really think Michigan's best defense is a time/yard consuming run game.

Mix in a couple rpo's and unexpected runs in typical passing downs. Just don't do what they did last night and think they can win straight up at the LoS.

I was actually rooting for Oregon today for the first time in a long while. I told my cousin, a Duck fanatic, that I expected a 40 point win for UO. Pretty close.
They got screwed by the CFP committee and their bowl assignment. Nice blowout win for your favorite team. Congrats. Oregon is going to be a juggernaut next year, no doubt.

I know Oregon and Washington are rivals, but not having a degree from UO nor having the state listed on my birth certificate, I'm not inclined to hate on Washington the way a guy like Schmeabs or other homegrown Ducks' fans do. And I really REALLY have grown to respect and appreciate Michael Penix. My wife - who I'll call a casual football fan at best - was super impressed with Penix at the Heisman ceremony where he flashed the inseam of his jacket that had all his teammates names written into the lining. Just a humble guy that carries himself very well. Easy to root for, even if he plays for a rival school.

So, I'm happy for Washington and I think it speaks a lot about how strong the Pac12 was in its final year. Oregon had chances to win twice against the Huskies but Washington has found a way to win all year long and that sometimes separates great teams from elite. Attention to detail. Not making mistakes that cost your team. Putting your team in position to win and then delivering. Great coaching, great team leadership.

Go beat Michigan.

Every fan base has both good and bad ones. As a Seattle transplant to another state after graduating from UW, I’ve travelled to many UW away games. I’ve been harassed by Oregon fans over the years. Same for Utah fans. Michigan, Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado, UCLA, Michigan St., BYU, LSU, and USC fans just because I’m wearing Husky gear. Par for the course.

Fortunately, the large majority of those fan bases from all of those schools’ games I attended have been extremely welcoming. Of course, there is always some friendly back-and-forth, but the vitriol has been minimal. I’ve been offered many free drinks and snacks from those fans and have had great conversations. I love going to away Husky games for this reason.

And I’ve been to dozens of games at Husky stadium with a similar experience and I think the ratio of welcoming to belligerent fans is similar.

Obviously, it totally depends on how you behave as an away fan. If you’re not respectful but choose to be obnoxiously rude, you can expect to be berated by the home fans and shouldn’t complain about it. In fact you most likely are seeking it.

This guy was seeking it. Washington fans on either side of him, and rather than celebrating with them he moment something negative happened for Oregon, he turned around looking for someone he could screw with. Immediately started in on the people behind us, clad mostly in Ducks gear. My friends and I had no rooting interest whatsoever, apart from the wagers we'd made (Go offense!!), however, we quickly found ourselves wanting the Ducks to win out of spite (which I find to be as fine a reason as any).

As you said, the rest of the UW fans were mostly cool. And the Oregon fans were mostly pretty mellow (i.e., high).

Ha! We were definitely a house divided for the Lions/Cowboys game. Wife and the little kids were cheering Detroit on hard while my favorite child and I rooted on America's Team.

I've seen some really bad behavior from Oregon fans over the years and I'm sure a younger, drunker, dumber version of me would have made the Who's Who list of dooooooshy fans.

About 10 years or so ago when Stanford and Oregon were battling it our perinially (sp?) for Pac-12 supremacy, I was waiting in a long line at the men's room pre-game and there was a Stanford fan a few folks up. He seemed to be nice enough, talking to others around him, waiting his turn. Civil. Not egging anybody on. And then out of nowhere, some Duck hillbilly who was straight out of central casting yelled at the Stanford fan to go back home and "F*** his boyfriend". He was SO proud of himself too, just smirking.

A rather large African American man who observed this altercation put the fear of holy beatdown into this Duck fan. He yelled out to him with a voice befit for a god "HEY, WE DON'T DO THAT HERE, GET THE **** OUT OF HERE BEFORE I THROW YOU OUT OF HERE". And Hillbilly Duck lost his swagger and got the hell out of there. Lots of cheers and high fives.*

Why? I watch the Natty every year no matter who is playing. Same with BB finals. I would watch Liberty vs SMU if they made it to the end. This year looks like a classic type of matchup. Should be a good one.

Washington will do what they always seem to do. They will hang around and keep it close making a timely play here/there. Michigan can't afford to settle for field goals and need to control the clock.

Are Michigan's DBs better than Texas DBs? Penix's accuracy is outrageous, but it seemed that a few, not all, of his deep balls could have been defended had the DB just turned to play the ball. Some looked to sail right by the defender's helmet. I know easier said than done, but still. Better DBs deflect some of those balls, imo.

Can the Mich pass rush get to Penix? He is a shadow back there and seems to know when/where to slide to avoid pressure. If he is allowed to stand calmly in the pocket, look out. 6 sacks vs Alabama but Milroe is not Penix.

And as said, Michigan should be able to run the ball and control the clock. But so could Texas and they failed by inexplicably going away from the successful run game. I expect that Michigan would stay focused on the run game, unless they go down by 10 or so. If they can wear out the Wash defense and keep Penix off the field... success. And you'd think they learned something from the TCU game last year.

Can JJ make plays when needed (3rd and long). Play calling and timely use of his legs are critical.

Dillon Johnson is playing but how long can he be effective? The pain he was in last week... I don't see him having a big impact against the Mich front. Washington may become one dimensional, but isn't that what everyone expects anyway?

Who wins the turnover battle? Texas got into the red zone a couple of times then fumbled. Michigan's special teams had mistakes that they had to overcome. Guessing Harbaugh placed special attention to special teams during practice last week.

Hard to call. If shootout, give me Penix and Washington. If Michigan wins turnover battle and TOP, big Blue. Corum could have 150 and 2 TDs if the latter.

If this game were played outside in Houston tonight, with the rain/wind... Michigan all the way. Inside on a fast track, edge to Washington and that offense. Huge challenge for the Michigan pass rush and DBs. The offense can help by keeping Penix off the field. But can they?

Have no plans to check anything but the score Tues. Maybe Wednesday if get busy. Gotta think ratings will be at or near all time lows.

Tomorrow night's game? The semifinals pulled in huge numbers so there's no reason to expect anything different tomorrow night.

I think Bama and Texas both get a lot of national interest. Maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

I think sometimes you just say stuff that even you know is ridiculous but you just don't have the filter to stop yourself. This is one of those times.

Tough game to call tonight. I would think Michigan’s oline will lean on Washington and they’ll be able to control the ball and the clock. But Penix and those wideouts are so good. Feels kinda 2010 Auburnish where maybe not the most complete team wins the whole thing because of one (or a few more in this case) dynamic players.

It's going to be a close game. That's the one thing I'm very confident in. Therefore, taking points seems prudent. For all the talk about Penix and his wideouts (for good reason) not enough is being made of the Washington Offensive Line. They're going to need it tonight for sure.
