 Love Ohio State - Michigan week.

He completely dodged the question. It is a game. As adults who are grooming young men they should be able to hate each on the field l, but have respect for each other off of it.

In D1 football and BB the "grooming" young men part of the sport is gone forever. Too much money to be made by both the players and coaches now. Think about it, at some schools a 10-2 or 9-3 record is considered a failure.

No loyalty anymore, instead of putting the work in and coaching a HC will bail on any player if they can get a transfer that might be better.

D2 and D3 might be better for the actually grooming the players to be fine young men in todays game.

I completely disagree. There is more money in the professional leagues and they don't hate like this. There are other schools with rivalries similar to this and they don't hate like this. Georgia and Alabama are title or bust and they meet in the SEC title game every year and they don't act like this.

This is a Michigan and Ohio State problem, and more specifically the current Michigan and Ohio State coach problem.

Ok, talking about D1 coaches in general grooming kids to be fine young men.

Nick Saban and Kirby Smart are close friends. Saban hired Smart and he Smart worked together for years. They know each other on a personal level. So that is a different situation.

There are many college HCs that dislike each other, but don`t have the same stage or history as OSU-Michigan. There are many "frosty" handshakes after games, NFL too.

I remember a couple years ago Day said he won`t let up and he would "Hang 100 on Michigan next time they played"

As a fan I enjoy that they don`t like each other.

"Social Media" Everybody runs their mouths on every topic that fuels hate. Not talking about this game in general but everything, every sport.
There has been actual hate for a really long time. I lived 4.5 years in Cincinnati Ohio which is cool on the rivalry compared to the other parts of the state. Even there, its legit hate by the people and that was well before social media. I've never lived in Michigan outside of my stints for classes etc.

As a fan I enjoy that they don`t like each other.

Acting the way they do has an affect on the athletes no matter how much money they make.

It doesn't matter that they are close friends or complete strangers, you can show the other side respect.

This is my whole point, go through the motions whether you dislike them or not. You will never like all your neighbors or coworkers either.

I said it was an OSU coach and UM coach problem.

Hate between the lines, act like reasonable people outside the lines. It isn't difficult.

I'm close to illiterate, but I'm not sure the last few few posts make sense to anyone.

Can we get back to talking about real programs like Maryland?

I understand but that will never happen with those two schools.

Look at the previews they been showing all week, all they are showing is players fighting and scrums. Networks love the hate as they predict it might be the highest rated Saturday game of all time. OSU players and coaches won`t even say the word Michigan, they just say they school up north. It is ingrained.

I bet early and took OSU +4 . By game time it will be down to 2.5 or less. Might be a pick em.

I know QBs dominate the Heisman, but it’s hard to picture anyone other than Harrison deserving the award.

What Nix and Penix has done is awesome too, but I think tOSU is a multi-loss team this year without him vs undefeated. Michigan looked vulnerable today and if tOSU wins next week, I’d find it harder to deny him as he’s gonna play a big role.

I just looked this up:

Troy Franklin of Oregon: 68 Rec/1,221 yards/13 TDs.
Marvin Harrison of OSU: 62 Rec/1,093 yards/13 TDs.

Malik Nabers with 80 for 1424.

Anyhow, I don't think Harrison has much of a case for Heisman because as you say, QBs dominate and there have been some great ones this year, but regardless, an argument can be made that he's not even the best WR in the country this year.
Daniels SHOULD win the Heisman, and Nabers Should win the Biletnikoff. I have no idea if they will, but they should.

Voters SHOULD knock Daniels for playing in the 4th quarter against Georgia State. That's BS stat padding right there. Nix has been removed from games once the outcome was certain. Voters need to take that into account.
Take away the second half stats and he's still way ahead. Hell, take the whole game out and hes still in the lead. IMHO, of course.
Way ahead of what? The Heisman race? Even with the second half stats he's not way ahead.
He's a thousand yards and a few touchdowns ahead. I think that's a lot, but I'm not going to argue about what "way" means. He's had a better season as a QB.

Yes, he has rushing yards that other QBs in consideration do not. No question that his rushing yards and rushing TDs should elevate his chances at winning the Heisman.

However - Bo Nix is completing almost 78% of his passes. Read that again. That's astonishing. It's 10 percentage points above Daniels. It's a staggering achievement. Nix has 2 INTs on the season. Like.....5 sacks total? That's absurd! And, if he beats OSU, the Trophy is his. Sorry, but winning matters. And that's what Nix has done. Win.

I had to read that again. That is incredible.

This has always been the stupidity of this rivalry IMO. But look no further than the interviews with the players to see how they are being impacted. Wait? You can't find the interviews? Well, no, not really. Why? Because they speak respectfully of OSU and give them their props. I haven't seen any OSU interviews as I don't have those social media outlets on my timelines, but I suspect it's true of them too.

In my view, this started escalating pretty quickly in 2006 when OSU pulled the shenanigans on the Michigan team bus just after Bo had passed. It's been pretty downhill since then in terms of fans and institutions.

Even though Bo and Woody "hated" each other, they respected each other. They met mid field before the game to talk about her families and life. If one was doing a fundraiser, the other would appear. They knew each other's families. This complete disdain between Day and Harbaugh has extended to the players and the fans. It was a respectable rivalry, but now it feels like something more. I'm actually wondering how many fights will take place on Saturday. Not just in the field or in the tunnel, but in the stands, parking lots and streets. This one feels a lot heavier and more extreme than years past.
I’m not a fan of the gators but I’ve never understood that kind of hate. My Michigan cousin won’t even say the word Ohio. “That state over there” or whatever. Hell I even married a Gator grad which is inconceivable for a serious Michigan fan to do with an OSU fan. Just seems too serious to me. It’s all for fun.

But I definitely do enjoy making fun of the gators, who have not won anything since HDTV was a thing.

Born and raised in Michigan. It really isn't.

Alabama and UGA aren’t really heated rivals. On the other hand, a crazy Bama fan (not from Alabama of note) poisoned the famous trees in Aubrun.

There’s no rivalry w more pure hatred than that. Coaches have gotten in to it too back to Bryant calling out the ‘cow college across the state’. But…it’s still ‘family’ for fans from the state generally. Just that side you don’t really want to talk much to.

Not everyone takes it that seriously. Even though my guest wifi is "michigansucks", as an Ohio State Fan I can tell you that I don't "hate" Michigan. Well, I kind of did during the Cooper years. Those sucked. . But the school is actually a pretty good school and beating a good Michigan team is definitely more rewarding than beating Rutgers. They need each other to be good. A good friend's son considered going to Michigan for college last year. His dad is a big OSU fan as well, but he supported him if he wanted to go there. He ended up going to Indiana, but it was down to the 2 of them.

It is a huge rivalry though and some do take it way too far. I lived in Columbus for awhile and it got CRAZY there this week. I didn't marry a Michigan fan, but my wife and I are different political parties and neither of us have an issue with that. Some folks could NEVER be with someone who was on the other side. Maybe I'm just an exception. Find it hard to hate anything really.

A blocked FG helps keep Iowa/NE 0-0. The under is still the play.

This was after Iowa punted, NE fumbled, and Iowa recovered. So far, this game is very on brand.

Norm Stewart - longtime Mizzou basketball coach - refused to spend a dime in Kansas. He would gas up the bus in Kansas City before they crossed the border.

That's the stuff that makes college sports great.

Kinda like how OSU fans will type out Xichigan or “that state up north” on social media.

Bo vs Woody
Trouble with the snap
The band is on the field
Vince Young vs USC
Auburn with the 109 yard return vs Alabama.

That makes it great.

Random people, coaches and former players poisoning things, driving 3 hours out of your way, almost running out of gas because won't spend money in that state, refusing to use a letter in the alphabet. That is what makes it dumb and people insane.

If Michigan continues to run the ball the way they have against OSU and feed the TEs early and often, they will be in the game and likely win. This OSU defensive front has improved over last year, but the back side is still pretty soft IMO.

Oh yea

People are finally starting to see what I've been talking about forever on this board in terms of this "rivalry". It's one of the most bizarre things I've ever been a part of (directly or indirectly). There's an amazing amount of ludicrous and it's not remotely similar to anything I've witnessed in any other rivalry anywhere. And I grew up in NC with Duke vs UNC.

What happens if Iowa/Nebraska goes into OT? First team to return a turnover for a score wins? Or do they get to start at the 1 or something?
Classic case of under bettors hating that their sure thing might eventually blow up on them due to college OT rules.

From @BenScottStevens on twitter:

The Iowa-Nebraska total opens at O/U 27.5 points.

This would match the lowest FBS total EVER, tying Iowa’s game vs. Rutgers two weeks ago.

This will be the 6th time in Iowa’s past 14 games the Over-Under is the lowest/ co-lowest FBS total ever.

All 5 prior games went Under.
Down to 26.5 in most places I think, supposedly 25.5 in some

Under!

It's region specific. I grew up in NW Ohio, have family in SW Ohio, and know a lotta people that went to OSU. They're all nuts. Thankfully it's not like that up in NE Ohio. There are some degenerates up here, but the ratios are more tolerable and I've successfully crafted a social network devoid of those mouth breathers. Instead our crazy is restricted to the Browns and our irrational hatred of yinzers.

If Michigan continues to run the ball the way they have against OSU and feed the TEs early and often, they will be in the game and likely win. This OSU defensive front has improved over last year, but the back side is still pretty soft IMO.
I agree...I think the game will be win in the trenches. Whoever runs the ball the best will win the game. I think both teams have a first round CB, but I don't see JJ and the WRs putting much pressure on the OSU secondary. If the MI tackles can't keep the OSU DL out of the backfield, it'll be a long day for JJ.

Do you have any concerns that MI has looked one dimensional the last few games? You mentioned the RB and TE, so more short/intermediate throws? JJ hasn't looked the same the last few weeks. Moore also hasn't called alot of deep throws. McCord hasn't done many either, but has hit a few. If all else is equal, it may come to which QB can make the successful downfield throws?

Not if JJ and company (OL) are healthy. They didn't need to throw the ball in the PSU game and McCarthy had several open throws in the Maryland game that he just missed. Something was wrong with him whether sick or hurt, I don't know. TEs and RBs are always key to playing OSU. That's nothing new.
