2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (4 Viewers)

Ringo is arguably the freakiest athlete in the 2023 NFL Draft. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he clocked an approximate speed of 23.5 mph during one of his pre-draft workouts. For reference, the fastest ball carrier in the NFL this season came in around 22 mph. The issue is that Ringo is still raw as a cornerback. He allowed 13 catches of 15-plus yards this past year, the second most among SEC cornerbacks. He’s too reactive and needs to do a better job of anticipating what the offense will throw at him. Still, Ringo’s ridiculous tools are tough to pass up

Was busy this eve and didn’t get to watch the draft. Looks like a solid draft until the WR. Maybe Renfow isn’t healthy. We have to be missing something.
I would wonder more about this being concern about Dorsett than Renfrow as Dorsett is the speedy guy on the roster right now with a history of injuries.
I almost brought up Dorset too but all I had to say was that he hasn’t done much in the NF I just googled him and it’s even worse than I thought. He has produced less than I thought and he’s 30. He has a history of injuries and the likelyhood of injury is greater now while a suddenly productive season seems very unlikely. Not sure why he’s on the team.

I am guessing the plan for Tucker is to make him the primary kick returner. Speedy, shifty former track whose main value at Cincinnati was as a kick returner.

I doubt Dorset makes it out of camp.

He is 30?! I am not sure why that surprises me but has he been around that long? Ok.... so.... this pick makes even more sense. I am putting the chance of Dorsett making the team at below 10%.

I was very surprised that he is 30 as well. His time as a Raider is likely very brief.

You have to assume if a guy wasn't taken in the 3rd, that the draft community doesn't know what the NFL knows.
Pretty much.

A lot of fans lamenting that their team passed on Ringo (myself included) so something is off.

But sometimes NFL teams are clueless. JC Jackson comes to mind. Mocked around the 3rd/4th round and goes undrafted. So wanted SF to grab him in the 5th and later when he fell.

He is a piece... I mean with Adams, Frow, Meyers and Mayer he would have to be one helluva player to be a large piece in the passing game. Add speed there, someone for some WR screens, bubble plays, jet sweeps, etc and then the return game. Someone who won't see a ton of balls but will expand the playbook and help stretch the field.

Sometimes? The reality is that every draft is full of busts and value finds because it is hard to do. It is why I am not a fan of 'reach' sentiment because all that is simply all the talking heads mob following each other and us average Joes believing they know what they are talking about and then the NFL teams deciding on their own how much they want or don't want someone. If Tom Brady was taken #1 overall, it would have been laughed at as the biggest reach of all time..... which would ultimately mean nothing.

Agree with the “reach” sentiment, outside the first two rounds especially. Although I hated my team taking a friggin kicker when there were still some good CB prospects on the board.

Picks like Brady and Purdy are labeled “genius” picks but those teams passed on them 5-6 rounds too. Always makes me laugh when a late pick hits big and the team is praised.

i was reading up on him. You cannot find anyone who loves the way he plays football. It's oh, man, size/speed/height, if he puts it together. We've drafted enough of those guys for ten lifetimes.

Generally, regarding reaches, it's egregious in the 1st and 2nd round. Much more consensus on who belongs there. Everyone knew Leatherwood wasn't a 1st rounder.

You take a DT in the 3rd that was slotted in the 4th, whatever. You think these draft sites we all follow broke down Byron Young the way they did Kalijah Cancey? Of course they didn't, there's no interest.

By the way, the 3rd round slot guy no one is excited about is the one who has the set job. Returner and gunner, and compete for WR work.

Raiders traded up in the 4th with Texans.

#Raiders will now pick:

R4, Pick 104
R5, Pick 144
R6, Pick 203
R6, Pick 204
R7, Pick 220
R7, Pick 231

Draft Projection
Round 4
Overview
High-cut cornerback who is more of a catch-challenger than an instinctive ballhawk. The high passes defensed total is an example of how aggressive Bennett is at the catch point, and he’s clearly effective at tilting the 50/50 ball in his favor. However, his coverage tends to lack the needed anticipation and discipline to stay connected to NFL route runners. He has good size, but his coverage strength is a mix and match of man and zone with both featuring inconsistencies that will likely follow him into an NFL camp.
Strengths
Well built with NFL size.
Good body control to stay in phase with double moves.
Loose hips for rapid flip-to-sprint trigger.
Eager to crowd receiver’s catch space on deep sideline throws.
Ravenous catch challenges; attempts to pull, chop and slap ball free.
Recorded 27 passes defensed over the last two seasons.
Will get downhill against the run.
Weaknesses
Lacks patience in mirroring press release.
Recovery burst looks very average.
Inconsistent reading play development for coverage clues.
Coverage lacks stickiness on in-breaking routes.
Tape shows some balance issues transitioning downhill from his pedal.
Dropped more would-be interceptions than he made.
Penalized 13 times over the past two seasons, per PFF.

DE, DT, CB. and the top TE.
ok, I’m satisfied so far.
not loving the WR pick but we shall see. I wanna treat the NFL a draft like Fantasy draft, though. With all those picks, take 3 CBs in the draft and hope one really hits.

Last three Raider picks played in the Senior Bowl. Not sure that is a good thing the way Pat Graham's defense performed last year.

I'm good with the pick. DTR was on the board and they went with a guy they thought was better. I can't call it a bad pick.

Aidan O'Connell? Never heard of him.
Me either. Quick search says the kid has a high football IQ and quick release. Guess that’s better than a low IQ and slow release 🤷‍♂️
He's a bit older and is a pure pocket passer. Offers zero dual threat ability.
Well.... there goes that part of the offensive system that we saw Brady do for years.
My post may have come off as criticizing the pick. That wasn't what i intended. Just wanted to give some detail about what kind of QB he is.

Christopher Smith

Overview
Undersized free safety with decent athletic ability and toughness to bolster roster depth. Smith has man-cover talent and range to play over the top, but he was often more effective attacking downhill on routes underneath and stopping plays. He’s willing in run support but tackling big backs could be an issue. Despite his limited size, his reliability in coverage is a big advantage against today’s offensive attacks.
Strengths
  • Hard worker with a history of success.
  • Ready to rush into the alley and slow outside run.
  • Able to alter track to mirror runner’s movement in pursuit.
  • Recorded six interceptions over the last two years.
  • Finds angles to play the football in tight spaces.
  • Meets the receiver with timing and pop.
  • Jarred a high number of throws loose from wideouts.
Weaknesses
  • Smallish frame for an aggressive safety.
  • Slows feet and catches the collision in open field.
  • Needs to play with better eye balance from off-man.
  • Average chase burst at the top of the route.
  • Very average feel when perched as high safety.

My post may have come.igf as being a jerk. That wasn't what I intended. Just my sense of humor pointing out that dual threat isn't really part of the offensive system. :excited:
