Our RBs are fine; invest in the offensive line and a add a pass rusher and you'll see the immediate improvement. They have fine running backs in Powell and Crowell. They can also get out from under their salaries this year (yes, both of them) for a minimal cap hit. So they're really both playing for their jobs and have looked fine so far. It's the line that needs the most work.
What's your take on Chris Herndon?

Other than a hot take, I have none. That was not a good performance yesterday. I'm not especially good at seeing tight ends and evaluating them, so I have no idea regarding how talented or not he might be.

But Bowles is a big problem - I just dont see him learning or improving on his mistakes....better to make that move going into this offseason unless he completely changes over the rest of the season which I have no reason to expect.
Agreed.  This is Rex 2.0.  When the same mistakes continue to be made over and over again, in year 4, you aren't showing progress as a head coach.  Players are held accountable for improving at their craft, why would an HC not be held to the same standard?  We kept Rex around about a year too long and burnt half a decade on that regime, and we're heading down the same path with Bowles.

I know some people like him and obviously we all collectively want the team to succeed - but this entire process has to be looked at as just that, a process.  A multi year process.  It's becoming more and more apparent that Toad Bowels is not going to be the coach you'll ever be able to trust to lead a long term contender, so every year that he's still here is another year away from the Jets finding the proper HC match to go with our hopefully franchise QB.

Of course I'd love the team to pull a run out of their ### go 10-6 and be a surprise wild card team that can be built off of.  But I think we're in a blatant "need to take 1 step back to take 2 steps forward" situation with this HC.  The worst thing I can foresee is going something like 8-8, exceeding expectations in the W/L column much like last season, and the organization is compelled to prolong the Bowles purgatory.  Before you know it we'll be another 5 years deep with a guy who we'll retrospectively be looking at as a huge waste of time - only difference is he didn't/doesn't have the playoff appearances to show for it that at least Rex did early in his tenure.

I thought Darnold looked pretty good. Yeah, he made a couple of mistakes (holding the ball too long for a sack, missing an open guy here or there), but he made some great passes, especially on the run. This kid is special and I'm ecstatic that we drafted him.

Herndon had an awful day. A rookie will make mistakes, so we can forgive him as long as he learns from them. His drop was a killer. So was not getting out of bounds.

Pryor: he's athletic, but come on, he didn't even look for that pass that was intercepted. Then he admitted that he ran a bad route. At this point. I rather have Kearse out there. Sam needs dependable WRs that can run good routes.

The O-Line; had some issues as expected against a good pass rush. It would have been worse with an immobile QB (like most of them in our past). There's almost nothing we can say going forward other than this needs to be addressed next season. It's not a surprise to any of us.

Coaching: I've said it before and I agree with those above. I don't think Bowles will ever take us to the next level. It's the same mistakes over again and once again we come out flat after a big game.  A couple of those calls by K. Rodgers were suspect, too. You can't just give our opponents the middle of the field. That's our weakest area. It's like, "hey, why don't you exploit our weakest link?".

Adams is beasting this year.  Too bad Maye was hurt.  I think Anderson played another good game. That was a nice trade by McCags. Clearly he identified a player whose skillset would be maximized in our system. Nice to see some sacks from our defense for a change. Oh well, on to Cleveland.

The guy is pretty exciting with the ball in his hands but he lacks the instincts and skill-set to be a good WR. I agree as unexciting as Kearse is he's better suited for Sam's development in that he runs good routes and is dependable.

Pryor needs to be used only a handful of times a game on third and long where his catch and run skills can come into play.

I'm pretty nervous about being Cleveland's first win in over two years and they are getting closer to pulling one out. In the grand scheme of things it won't matter much for the path the Jets are on, but it would be an embarrassment we don't need.

I think it's irrelevant to everyone but those interested in player development. They almost came into the Meadowlands and won with Josh McCown a few years back. Not sure the Jets have gotten any better, and Cleveland's defense has thus far looked good against two good offenses in NO and Pitt. It could be a long Thursday night for the Jets.

rebuild year, as long as sammy looks good and progresses each week, its a good thing.  He's gonna learn from these bad int's, ...

would be nice to swap out this coach for 2019 though and get an offensive minded guy in here to develop with Sam...

Name the last Jet offensive head coach and yr...........if you said Rich Kotite 1995 and Bruce Coslet 1993 you are correct.....I know they were both awful but thats almost 25 yrs of defensive minded coaches in an offensive league.....it's time for a change.  I'd like to see Bates show enough to take over and keep some consistency for Sam...but way too early to see if he has the mindset.

We all knew it wouldn't happen but this was the year to fire Bowles and hire an offensive HC heading into the season. The last thing we need now is to force Darnold to start over but Bowles isn't the guy to take them to the next level. Maybe Bates is the answer but I'm not totally impressed with his game calling so far.

Maybe Sean McVay's teenage brother might be ready by next year

Boy it’s slim pickens out there for coaching...
it really is....mostly retread failures or hot assistants that 90% of the time fail......Im hoping Darnold develops with Bates and they can just slide him to HC....would be best for Sam....at least keep some continuity....he'd have as good of a shot than any other hot assitant.

I'm not quite sure @Dr. Octopus thought the new thread title all the way through.
This was changed before the trade, I think. I remember it being when Gordon's situation was getting leaked by "sources" as having shown up under the influence of something and that he would be released Monday, but the information wasn't there about any potential trade. Roto was reporting suspension and stuff.

Shut up, you. In this moment I'm right which is a rare occasion so let me bask in it. I never get to bask.

Doesn't appear that way so far.

On the flip side, our defense is generating pressure like I didn't think it could. Adams is beasting, too. Pro Bowl for sure this season.
Trumaine Johnson leaving the field again for concussion testing isn’t good - but the defense looks great. Tyrod Taylor sucks though of course.

I am happy Darron Lee has turned out. I was a fan in the draft but really was negative on him in the NFL. He looks awesome!

They really need to address this o-line next offseason with our cash since McCags doesn't like to draft any.

That's 2 shocking special teams plays in 3 games.

The line is horrendous. Pisses me off. How does Mac not realize how important it is.

Someone wake up the comatose coach. 2 dumb penalties in a row. Get control now. We haven't won anything yet.
