2023 New York Jets (5 Viewers)

4 TDs in their last 88 possessions

Paul Hackett will finish the year employed

Unreal
not gonna happen, this is a 2 year train wreck he is tethered to Rodgers

I know, and it’s not purely Nathaniel Hackett with terrible OL + QB + WR* play. But we’ve got two years evidence of him not being able to scheme players at a worse rate than just about anyone. Denver barely changed the personnel & they are light years ahead of last year when Hackett was fired in Y1.

*besides Wilson

As expected, Zach and Cant-Hackett manage to pull one good game out of their asses.....giving the Jets an ultimately meaningless win that will just hurt their draft position.

I'm sure they'll get another one at some point, so at this point you just have to hope it encourages some team to trade something more than a 7th/6th pick swap for him this Spring.

They hurt Green Bay’s draft position.

SMDH.

What is wrong with this team? They looked competent and professional today. You could tell Houston was totally rattled by the weather, the loss of their top two WRs (who wouldn't be), and the relentless Jets D. How awful that the Jets look good now/today. Zach looked fine. The offensive line was in shambles again, and Breece got nothing on the ground, but Houston's linebackers are all hurt and second-rate, so we just attacked them with screens and swing passes to Breece. That's how he got going.

Crazy stuff. Terrible win. Good for them for being professional and having each other's back. Zach earned himself a spot in the league (is he worse than Blaine Gabbert?) with this performance. Wouldn't surprise me if he wound up a high-priced backup for a good club. Garrett Wilson is aces. He's awesome. I can't think of many guys I'd want at RB over Breece. There are some, but not too many. This has the makings of a good club if the Jets can patch holes.

SMDH.

Crazy game - O looked putrid in the 1st half and somehow came alive.

Few observations from being there

When Zach came out the crowd gave him a nice ovation and supported him the entire game. I think once fans saw how awful Boyle and company were they now realize Zach is the best of a bad lot.
ZW played a great game but he was supported with some nice plays, minimal penalties and more time to throw the ball. That being said everyone can see the kid has some serious physical traits that caused GMs to love him in the draft. Unless he collapses again - which is possible - he should carve out a backup role and probably entice some team to trade a mid to late rd pick for him.

Defense was monsterous - if the O can get their stuff together next year this D makes them a serious contender. I know they dont have a lot of cap room but have to find a way to bring Huff back. DBs were incredible - so many passes knocked down.

This was the game to try to convince Woody to run it back next year. I think he does - if Rodgers was healthy this team is definitely in the playoffs.

The bolded cannot be understated enough how important a decent OL is. While Zach will never be confused with a consistently credible QB, it shows that with proper protection, it can cover up a lot of issues and give him time to make plays. For once, the OL held its ground and it showed.

In the second round.

As bad as the Rodgers trade has been so far at least there is hope - the other 2 options out there: Carr and Jimmy G have been even worse and they both played most of season. Usually an angry motivated Rodgers flashes MVP form. At his age im not expecting that but as we have seen just above average QB play could put this team in the middle of the mix. So could be worse I suppose

To your point, I was thinking of the ghost of Joe Flacco and what he's doing in Cleveland. I guess they just have a better OL, coaching, or both, but if Flacco can generate success, that gives some hope for Rodgers coming back.

I cant pretend that I'm some sort of expert on O-line metrics, but this article backs up what my eyes have seen on Becton this year. Kudos to him for mostly staying healthy and playing through some nicks. And there were some early highlights for sure. But overall, he's just sloppy in technique and gets absolutely smoked by good speed rushers on a consistent basis.

Sucks to have to replace both tackles this off-season (unless they move AVT to RT permanently, which I think should absolutely be on the table) but i see absolutely no reason to commit any sort of long term, big money deal for him. He just isn't very good on tape or on paper. Is he better with better guys around him? Probably. But paying him something like 3 for 30 to find out would be too risky for me.

Take a tackle with your first rounder, move AVT to RT. Tippman at C and find a couple of guards in free agency. Hope to god SOMEONE stays healthy next year so they dont need to play 15 different guys again

Ive seen the same as well - stayed healthy but the guy just doesnt have the athleticism to stop good pass rushers. Looks like a low level starter or even backup. Add that to the health concerns and I cant see him getting a big contract so maybe they bring him back cheap to compete as they just dont have the $ for an entire OL overhaul

AVT injuries scare me as well - guy is a beast when he plays but 2 early season injuries in a row - they have to make the call on him for the 5th year as well. OL is going to be a huge project for next year- then need to add one more playmaker (Devante???)

I mean......LOLZ

Flipped back and forth between the game and golf for the first quarter. Then it was clear there was no longer any point. I'd much rather watch Charlie Woods drop bombs from a forward tee box than suffer this catastrophe.

Will be very interesting to see if they roll Zach out there again next week. This "concussion" will be a good enough excuse to sit him, and I think that's what happens.

No targets for Garrett until the 3rd quarter. I know Ramsey is a stud, but come on. And Becton once again absolutely WHIFS on multiple blocks, allowing the pass rusher a free run at the QB. He basically broke the game. He absolutely can't be trusted to protect Rodgers or anyone else next year, even as a backup. Let him get someone else's QB killed. You almost sort of feel bad for the kid...he has basically flushed 10's of millions of dollars down the toilet with his play over the last 6 weeks or so (not that anyone will be having a garage sale for him...he made 18M + on this rookie deal)

It still feels like they're gonna give the main perpetrators here (Saleh, Douglas and Hackett) a mulligan, but man.....it really feels like they shouldn't. Team was totally unprepared yesterday and got absolutely embarrassed by a team with similar O-line injury issues and oh yeah....no Tyreke Hill. (shout out to Jaylen Waddle, who finally managed to have a big game after my fantasy season was dead and buried)

Can you believe we actually have 3 more weeks of this?

Can you believe we actually have 3 more weeks of this?
The sad thing is that two of the last three games are against teams that we can actually beat (Washington next week and NE in week 18), so that shred of optimism for next year may still rear its ugly head and save the current regime.

Its a bad year to be looking for a mulligan due to losing a starting QB. So many teams this year have gone through this in a much better manner than the Jets. I still think they all come back but you never know - its been a disaster on all fronts.

This past game just shows how bad the Jets are - especially when the D has an off day. Non-competitive and boring.

Its time to lose now - only an idiot would put Rodgers behind that O-Line - I dont think they are that dumb. Perhaps for a scripted play or series just to try to give hope but no way he should be back there in any manner.

3 games left - all winnable but with tank commander Semien at the helm Im thinking they can move up to #4 overall where they should take another shot at a QB but will likely draft OL which is much needed as well.

Only thing of interest to watch is laughing when Flacco rips them apart and they beat the Pats in a meaningless game....giving the Pats a top 2 pick where they draft a true franchise QB to torch the Jets the next decade!

I'd honestly rather them clean house and tell Rodgers to move on. We all know that we'll get 4 games from Rodgers next year while wasting another full season.

I think they did a lot of things right trying to build a contender - some just didn't work out - but they never got the most important thing right, the QB position. This band-aid approach backfired and we cant waste another full season of Wilson and Hall's rookie deals with false hope.

I actually think there is a chance this Coach could be in trouble now, let's see the effort the last 3 weeks, this was pretty much a no show game yesterday.

There are some intriguing QB prospects in this Draft.. we need an offensive coach desperately, but without a reset and GM change, no up and coming offensive coach will come here for a short time.

This really is purgatory.

Draft a LT with their first round pick, and draft a rookie QB in the mid-rounds somewhere and hope to get lucky while brining in a decent veteran like Kirk Cousins/Jimmy G. In 2025 they can really start the effort to get a franchise guy.

save the current regime
There's no chance of a regime change with Rodgers around.
I thought the same up until a few weeks ago, but I’m not so sure now. For all his optimism and inspiration, it’s very possible Saleh has lost the locker room and there’s no getting back from that.
Unfortunately I think Rodgers has the most say in the current regime - and if they do fire Saleh we can end up in worse shape with Hackett as HC.

I mean Rodgers isnt dumb - he had that mystified Jet coach look as well on the sidelines. He is aware coaches lose their jobs with seasons like this - how do you possibly sell the fans on a repeat with no changes? Also remember Woody didnt hire Saleh - that was his brother. Maybe Woody doesnt have as strong feelings as his brother.

Also depends on who is out there - will they really trash everything and start over for another long shot at a coordinator? They need an established coach with offensive background in my opinion which besides Harbaugh - who I doubt would come here - not many come to mind.

This reminds me of the Favre season - Woody didnt hesitate dumping the coach and drafting a new QB - letting Favre retire then go to Minny. Could history repeat? Rodgers to JJ! $100M in cap $ promised to Rodgers in next 2 years makes me think they have no choice but to keep the band together

Rodgers def has most of the pull but even he cant sell Hackett as HC - that would be tougher to sell than a repeat - they'll probably fire the OL coach or something

Im thinking LT in 1st rd as well - no QB can play behind that OL. If they draft a stud LT with AVT at RT and Tippman C they just need to find some guards - much cheaper than OT. The Becton over Wirfs miss is crippling

Can't see Hackett being handed the reins after what happened in Denver and this year with the offense - even with all the injuries. Rodgers indeed has a lot of say, but there may be some other names out there in which he has some fondness for. This is going to be interesting the Monday after week 18.

another variable to take into accounts....there's a pretty decent chance they're going to lose Ulbrich this year. Lots of hype about him getting interviews this winter.

That doesn't help.

Yeah, there are going to be a lot of HC openings this year and I can see him getting one.

I think we're all trying to think like a rational sane veteran QB would - and ignoring how an out of touch/delusional/inflated ego like Rodgers thinks. I truly think we're running it back as is (with one sacrificial firing like OL or WR coach) - but would be happy to be wrong.

A mulligan/rerun seems inevitable - the only hope is all the coaches that handled similar situations much better. Maybe that triggers a change but i doubt it. Woody loves stars and he's not going to run Rodgers out of town or even upset him in the least. I think its a gonna be the same band as well.

one thing that drove me crazy during the game - why is Sauce not on the teams #1 WR like Revis was? This one side of the field is ridiculous - once Tyreek was out Saleh shouldve had Sauce stick on Waddle. Reed is solid but not in Sauce's class. Rex always had Revis on the top WR and it worked magic - while Saleh sticks to this zone and watches Waddle torch a lesser CB - seems stubborn and not best use of a lock down CB - am I missing something?

Greetings fellow masochists. It's been a while.

What a quagmire. What are the options going forward?

1) Burn it to the ground. Fire JD, Saleh, and tell Rodgers to kick rocks?
or
2) Fire JD and Saleh, but keep Rodgers? Would Rodgers even want to stay? Unlikely, so 2 is like 1.
or
3) Run it back with the same horrible head coach and gm? Maybe sacrifice a couple of bum assistant coaches like Carter (Hackett is probably safe. Maybe re-assigned, but what coordinator would take the job for 1 season?) Maybe make the playoffs for a season if Rodgers survives next season. Maybe not. Then what?

I don't see the first option happening. Woody is probably too pot-committed.

Running it back is the most likely option. Sigh. JD can't build an o-line after nearly a half dozen years. He's had one great draft, Several bad. He's made a couple of good trades and picked up a couple of good free agents, but mostly misses. He's not the worst GM in the world, but he's sinking below-average at this point. Every resource needs to go to the offense.

Most of our coaches seem terrible. Our offense is historically bad and we've seen some bad ones. Saleh seems way over his head. Please no more mantras and catchphrases.

Whatever happens next season (good or bad), we'll end up at option 1 the year after regardless because of Rodgers's age. Sigh.

A Dolphins-fan friend of mine said that "he feels my pain". Dude, I have no pain to feel. The season died in drive #1 (or realistically when I started rooting for them 50 years ago). I feel nothing at this point and can only laugh at how bad this organization continues to be. It's beyond my control other than choosing another team to root for. This team is pitiful, but I don't necessarily feel angry or pain. We're way beyond that point.

Just saw on twitter.....not a single target against Sauce.

Reed is very good...but teams know not to F with the big guy, They need to re-calibrate the D for him to travel with the top guys next year.

This is where I've settled this year and why I really don't care what happens this offseason. I can't let such a poorly run organization affect my life, and I think I could easily just start rooting for a different team next season and feel no sense that I'm not a "real fan".

I dont blame anyone for bailing on this clown show - it's in my DNA at this point so im stuck. However Ive learned to enjoy the tailgates more than the game and expect misery.

As Rage laid out - there is no solution or good option. Jets sold their sold to Rodgers and hes now the captain. They have no choice to run it back. However this is not how good franchises operate. Can you imagine a season like this in Dallas, Baltimore, etc? NE is having a similar type year and they may be kicking one of the best HC's of all time to the curb. Jets wont do that - they'll reload and keep kicking the rebuild can down the road.

Its just sad at this point

I would never start rooting for another team, but I've been emotionally divested from this franchise for 6 or 7 years now. Just realized that committing myself emotionally just made no sense. A...its just a game and B...this franchise has never done a thing for me. Total clown show.

Even when Rodgers went down (and it was very obviously he was done right away) I just looked across the couch to my brother (who isn't a fan but supports me), shrugged and said "well...that seems about right"....because it did. I wasn't angry. I didn't throw anything. My reaction was basically "I guess i can just focus on my fantasy teams now"

Its a Charlie Brown and the football scenario. At this point I know better than to try and kick it. If Aaron comes back next year and they build what appears to be a competent O-line this winter/spring....I'll turn on the TV in September. If not, I'll just play golf on Sundays and check in when its convenient.

We really are at the mercy of bad ownership, we can’t trust Woody to make any correct decision. Even if he fires everyone he would be the one hiring the next regime so what’s the point, it’s rinse and repeat until there is a new owner, and that doesn’t seem likely anytime soon, we are stuck with this ongoing dumpster fire. Rodgers was a Hail Mary and it failed miserably. Oh well same As it ever was …

Yeah, I wouldn’t really pick a new team, I’d really just watch redzone - like I did right after Zach’s fumble this past week.

As long as we're talking about what to do with our fandom and the Jets, allow me to just say that I'll do what I've done the past decade, which is to concentrate on my magic and fake football teams. They bring me joy and help me follow the entire league, so I've stuck with that. I'd emotionally checked out on this franchise a while back and I check in (I guess with gusto and passion) so I can handle anything that comes.

A crap team, on a crap field, in a crap stadium, with crap owners, and crap management and coaching. That's what I've come to expect.

Hi Todd.

As Dante would say, "abandon all hope ye who enter here".

We have the worst coaching in the NFL. It's pathetic. Look at Mann starting for Philly tonight. Arthur Mallet was making plays last night for Baltimore. Jason Pinnock was making big plays for the Giants last Monday night. Look at all the teams winning with back-up QBs, but we have the worst offense in history.

It's hard to ever change the coaching situation when we have a GM and owner also adding to the dysfunction. Sigh

You nailed it. *Sigh*

The perfect sequence would have been to play "All I have to do is dream" and then have the record getting scratched sound when Rodgers went down. Then play this song.

If this team didn't make me feel dead inside, I would be playing:

Maybe we can dream of a new owner changing the venue some day, but it's just a dream....
