It's all about the spleen and his conditioning, if it returns to normal and his strength and cardio are good, he has a chance.   He's splitting reps in practice right now.

Sam Darnold (mono) remains unsure of his Week 5 status.

If Darnold starts against the Eagles, he will be wearing "custom-made padding to guard his spleen." An enlarged spleen that can potentially rupture is one of the risks with mono. "Football is a crazy game, but I want to make sure I’m safe," Darnold said, before adding he doesn't want to "die." Darnold does not sound like someone who should be starting a game of NFL football this weekend. We should know by Friday.
What a wimp.

Why the weird title for the thread? It doesn't paint a very flattering picture of our community, which is actually very strong and helpful.

No need to go making us look like PC-elite SJWs?

He's joking but...  When I was 19 a girl almost died in my arms after a horrible skiing accident when she crashed into some trees, she busted ribs, collapsed a lung, one of her ribs ruptured her spleen.  Story is too lengthy but I'd say Darnold needs to sit till he's completely healthy.

I guess it's the title is a joke but I'm not sure I really get it, tbh.
When Darnold was asked about playing this week, he said he wants to be safe with his injury (enlarged spleen) and he doesn’t want to die.

Some dope questioned his inability to play with mono in the Darnold thread as him being soft so I was just playing off that.

Sadly that wasn’t the dumbest comment about his illness in that thread - some wacko thinks the Jets are faking that he even has mono.

Well, looks like another Sunday afternoon of golf for me. I refuse to watch this Trainwreck with a 3rd string QB in there.

The backup for Falk is pretty much any one of us schmucks off the street.
It really doesn't matter. Gase just plans to hand off all day long no matter the situation or score.  Maybe the occasional 1-2 yard pass to Bell.

So does Gase finally open things up a bit or this another game that we give up on offense?  Falk barely got any reps this week although it won't matter if they continue to just hand-off on third and long.  They might as well forfeit if they're not going to try until Darnold comes back.

Gase is terrible unless he has Peyton Manning. You just just expect that to continue.

I have a feeling they will open things up this week. Not sure if it will be successful but the Eagles Achilles heal is their secondary so they may as well go for it.

TY Montgomery looked great during the preseason and doesn’t get used at all. I’m not saying to bench Bell for him but find some ways to use both and get him in the game.

dang people out there lead sad angry little lives
What are you referring to?

On a different note, today was a joke. They're losing fans. They're losing this one. This is not a professional lineup and unit right now. There's no reason to even watch multiple screens to check out what's going on. I knew that defensive TDs were. Terrrible.

Sam Darnold will start in Week 6 against the Cowboys.

Darnold's first-team reps won't be all for naught this week as he was officially cleared by doctors. The Jets have been nothing short of disastrous without the 22-year-old under center, only ending their 39 scoreless-possessions streak once the Eagles muffed a punt return and fumbled inside their own 20 on Sunday. New York's 3.8 YPA in Luke Falk's three starts unsurprisingly ranked stone last by a full yard. Jury's out on Darnold's physical limitations in his first game back from mono, but he at the very least instills life (and hope) into Robby Anderson's and Jamison Crowder's fantasy outlooks moving forward. Consider Darnold himself a middle-of-the-road QB2 in this matchup against the Cowboys.

Darnold's still essentially a rookie. We were watching for his development, not prowess. I hope there aren't really any expectations going into DAL and NE. Those are going to be ugly games.

Im back from the Falkitis - wasnt interested in much until he was gone.....but few thoughts

Sam - happy he is coming back but have to be honest - I would have been ok if thet waited another 2 weeks - they better be 100% he is good because that OL is pure garbage (as predicted) and I dont want to see him get crushed.  Anxious to see him develop and see where he can pick up though.

OL - How did it come to this.....$100M to spend and top 5 pick....rookie franchise QB and they trot out this abomination?  I know they fired Mac but someone should have made him invest in the OL.....just awful

RB - agree with above - where the heck ins Montgomery?  Bell is a beast but they are killing him in non-competitive games.....plus Monty looked good in preseason and Im shocked they cant find a role for him - thats on the coach....

WR - time for a refresh on this group....no big time playmakers here

TE - Welcome back Hernodon - Gase better have a bunch of plays to feature him....could be best receiver playmaker and had good synch with Sam last yr...

DL - McClendon always plays hard.....Im dont with Leo - readyto dump him for a 4th rder if he can even fetch that....I know it was Q's 1st real game and Im surly but ,man do I wish they went for Josh Allen...Jets need a passrusher not another DL who is nice but doesnt create havoc.....I know Q was the value pick but for once they should have went need....

LB - I really hope Mosely is ready to go....been enough time to heal up....Neville has been a beast....

DBs - Adams and the rest....as usual

Coach - Gase officially on the hot seat....no more excuses....record is 0-1 as far as im concerned....he showed zero creativity with the crappy hand he was dealt so now lets see what he does with the reinforcements back....Im expecting a huge turnaround or he may not make the yr

Dallas - going to be a tough slog and it will essentially be a Dallas home game.....but this is a beatable team....no blowout is acceptable....they need to be in this game to the end either way....

Season starts this weekend.....

I think they can at least keep the Dallas game close and then get blown out again by NE.

My thoughts:

Agree with you mostly. The Buffalo game was a tough loss, but even Mr. Magoo could see us lose because of the kicking situation in week 1. However, Gase did not impress me at all week 1. Maybe Sam was sick. Not sure.  Gase basically threw in the towel these past 2 weeks. Losing Simien hurt him in week 2, but he looked like poop, too.

The O-LIne has been hot garbage. Kalil was terrible, but seems to be improving with each game.  Winters has been awful. Shell was replaced by the far more athletic rookie. Unfortunately, he's going to be thrown into the fire and didn't look good. Osemi wasn't looking great before his injury. The guy we got from Baltimore has looked pretty good in his place. Beachum has been pretty bad. We need a LT badly next year plus a replacement for Winters at the least.

WR - It's hard to judge these guys with a qb that doesn't even belong in the NFL. Crowder had a monster game in week 1 and I believe he will look that way again with Sam back. Anderson is Anderson. DT looked bad last week and has no future. This Smith kid that we got from Houston has potential to develop into a starter by later in the season.  He had a great camp with Houston.

TE - We've been playing without one. Our rookie had been rather bland. Welcome back Herndon.

RB - Bell has been incredibly impressive. Ty who?  The two of them should play together more often. Both can be great receiving options that would keep defenses guessing.

DL - We need to trade Leo. We're not going to re-sign him. We're not going to get a compensatory pick because we'll be spending again next year. Trade him now for whatever you can get. Q has been hurt. He looks ok, but not spectacular. Time will tell.  The rest are doing ok.

LB - Hewitt has played pretty well, but we need Mosely back.  Cashman has looked ok.

CB - I can't wait to see Johnson go. Not much to see about the rest. They haven't been as awful as expected.

DBs - As expected.

Specials - Ficken has been our best kicker so far, but that's not saying much. That fg attempt last week was atrocious. Nothing sticks out with the punter or specials.

Coaching - I'm not too thrilled with Gase so far. It's been pretty bad, but let's see how he does with Sam back. That Buffalo defense is pretty good, so it's hard to know about the offense in back in week 1. Assessment begins now. Let's hope the 0-line gets better.  Our defense has held better than expected. Williams isn't perfect, but we can't complain. The defense has been pretty decent.

At this point, just get me to the draft with Sam healthy. If I can get top 12 rb production from leveon for my fantasy team, it's a bonus.

We really just don't get to have nice things. Apparently Mosley isn't even close to playing

As Pollyanna-ish as this is, I am looking forward to seeing if the Jets can turn themselves around slightly with the return of Darnold (whenever that will be) and getting some key pieces back on both sides of the ball, notably on D with Mosely/Jenkins for the LB corps, and Williams upfront.

As mad as this may seem given the present trajectory of the team, I snagged Darnold to cover Ryan's bye in Week 9 when the Jets go against MIA, and will hopefully have a few weeks of proof of concept before that week to see (if he's back) how the offense responded.

Also snagged the Jets D now as they heal up -- starting Week 9, their schedule seems very cupcake -- @ MIA, NYG, @ WAS, OAK, @ CIN, MIA in WK 1 of fantasy playoffs.

So I'm invested in seeing if this team can turn itself around and become competitive. Especially on D as they could be huge during that stretch.

The Jets cut the backup, so now the practice squad 3rd stringer is the backup, and the backup will go to the practice squad? This makes sense?
