2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (1 Viewer)

Is it a good sign Swift didn't play because the starters didn't play?
they are keeping it close tot he vest, but i think whoever starts won't necessarily get 20 carries/catches a game. it really seems like they are trying for a 3-headed monster.

if i had to guess they will keep it light, and really plan to set up for a playoff run so the top 3 guys can be healthy going into the playoffs

Eagles fans about to go super meta and become obsessed with the back-up QB’s back-up.
Hurts gets hurt McKee ends up playing somewhow and this town turns on Hurts wanting McKee especially if he pulls off a Nick Foles. It’s like clockwork in this town.

I hope for Jalen’s sake he plays well and injury free because you know if it goes down and if McKee comes in and is successful, or pulls a rabbit out of his ***, wins SB MVP the fans are turning on Hurts. Enjoy the adulation while you can from the fans Jalen. fans here have zero loyalty when it comes to the starting QB

funny you mention this. It was all in jest, but the latest Birds with Friends podcast they talked about this. and how it is the gameplan with the Eagles, get a QB, sign him to a big contract and draft a guy next draft to take over his job in a year

From what I’ve heard from sources is they learned their lesson on that. If they are taking a QB it’s a dev guy like McKee pick and hope for the best. Don’t think they expected him to look this good this fast though

Man, Myles Jack must have looked terrible. Sounds like he just didn't have that will anymore.

With that said, I guess Cunningham has looked decent enough for us to have faith in a top 3 LB core of Dean, Elliss and Cunningham.

Safety is also looking a bit better than I expected. Ed Reed Blankenship appears to have taken a step in his development and the rookie Sydney Brown appears to be close to becoming the other starter.

Up the middle on defense: LBs + Ss really had me worried entering this training camp. Right now I am feeling better than I did in mid July.

So last season I had 3 main concerns going in. Hurts, Gannon, and special teams except Elliott. One surpassed my wildest dreams, the other two were as expected and lost us a SB. So what's everyone's biggest concerns this year?

Mine:
1. STILL special teams. Literally nothing has changed. They have to bring in another punter, right? RIGHT?!?
2. Linebackers. Still concerned with this group. They are all unknowns or new to the team. I'm good with safety, but not these guys yet.
3. Both coordinators are new. This is my lowest concern, but still there. Expecting smooth transitions and potentially some improvement, but swapping out both is a concern.

Overall these are nit picky, which is a great sign. Honorable mention is injury luck. Waiting for the pendulum to swing back on them. Already had a few go down.

A little concerned with the loss of Steichen but Brian Johnson has been here and people seem to think highly of him.

We upgraded our def coordinator.

Good posting and I echo those same concerns basically. Special teams is a HUGE one that isn't sexy/fun to discuss, but it is probably our biggest issue on the team.

LB also have me concerned a bit, but of all the defensive positions to be worried about, it's that one. Hoping our DL can dominate enough where there's a lot less pressure on those LB's to perform, as they're definitely below league average. Being near the top at every defensive position is pretty rare though anyways.

Co-ordinators will take some time to gel. I think we are talented enough to scrape by though and get the needed wins until they really get a hang of things.

1. LBs: after the first 2 guys it's questionable and goes down hill fast
2. Qb and offense overall with a new Cordinator. Hurts running a lot will eventually get to him. He avoided big time injuries last year but still missed a few games last year.
3. Special teams: As long as Clay is here i'm worried
4. Having 2 new cordinates how will they transistion with the players
5. Safety: Brown seems like a good addition. Is blankenship a one year wonder or did we find a gem here? Depth wise is a concern
6: CB both our Corners aren't spring chicken. Slay's play second half of the year wasn't good at all. Not much rght now replacing them

I would love to have Taylor on the team. But the Eagles aren't going to pay him. On the radio yesterday they said it would make sense to trade for Taylor if the Eagles said they won't franchise him at the end of the season, use him for one season, allow him to showcase on what is mostly a prime-time schedule and allow him to hit the market next offseason and go to the highest bidder. The expected compensation is something in the neighborhood of a 2nd or a 3rd plus some later round pick. You'd get nearly the equivalent back in a compensatory pick so might be worth the gamble. Sirianni was the OC when Taylor was drafted so there is history there with him.

Heard the same thing. ESP was saying basically, with Howie anything is possible from a contract standpoint. I agree with this. We all thought the Hurts contract was going to hamstring us moving forward and it really doesn't. He also made a point that next years cap space will be enough to grab multiple free agents. Taylor is 23 or 24 I think. Why not pull him in, promise no tag and either let him test free agency or offer a contract. Oh and let him know that he'll be able to play in a super bowl here. I love it.

In a vacuum, it sounds great. When you take the human element: Trading for a guy already pissed off, and replacing people already on the roster with him, who will also be pissed off, I just can't see it working out real well.

But then again, Howie does some crazy stuff sometimes....

It's not just for this season. Another 24 year old stud to add to all our other great young players. If the price is right you do it

I do find it interesting that Sirianni already knows him....

Not only does Nick know him, he was SUPERHYPED about him when they drafted him in Indianapolis that year.

If you trade for him, you're doing it knowing that he's ok with playing on the one-year deal and not getting tagged so he won't be disgruntled.

Isn't the point of his "holdout" stance getting a new contract with guaranteed money? Why would he play one year with a team just to search for a new contract next year? I'm sure he sees how bad it's been for RBs this year getting paid.

Yeah, you are probably right about that. Even still, I wonder how the locker room would take it. I imagine in any sort of trade we'd send the Colts one of Penny/Swift/Scott.

Sure so give him a good contract. Like I said we’re going to have a ton of cap space tomorrow and Howie is a ****ing wind talker when it comes to contracts. Make it happen. We need to be able to keep up with KC offense. He’ll help us do that.

Definately BS trying to get as many teams seamingly interested to drive his price up

Teams do this constantly get the eagles involved to raise the price. Plus who’s Evan Massey and we know the Eagles were one of the first teams to stop paying RBS big money. If they were signing RB to big money they’d have resigned Miles Sanders

Sanders is JAG. Jonathan Taylor, behind this line, with Hurts throwing to these receivers and opening up lanes, would be an absolute monster. We’d immediately have the most talented offense in the league. And again, he’s 24 and we have cap space galore moving forward. AND we have a lot of mid round picks that we can use in the deal and not hamstring our future drafts.

I never get the reticence to go out and get the most talented guy at a position. Offense wins championships. We had a great offense last year and put up a huge number but still lost to a slightly better offense. We have a good RB room, I don’t think it’s a position of need. However, the upgrade from any of the current RBs to Taylor is exponential. Why would you not try to make that addition?

My take on the Taylor talk is that it's smokescreen BS to drum up interest. Howie surely called IND to ask what they were looking for because he always does his due diligence on any prospective FAs or trades. But I would say it is a 0.0001% chance of happening.

Of course, I would've said the same thing about him trading for AJ Brown on draft day last year, so...

The Colts and Eagles had a joint practice this week and a preseason game tonight. You can be assured Howie brought it up on some level haha.

I did make a mental note two days ago of the fact that the news JT is traveling with the team to Philly for the joint session came out before the news that he was granted permission to seek a trade. :tinfoilhat: Personally I don't think a trade would make sense for us, but then who can say no to that talent.

Looking for who will/might be the next Reed Blankenship tonight. Guys I am going to keep my eye on:

Tanner McKee, really should be the backup QB
Grant Calcaterra thinking he makes the team
Justin Evans, who knows who will start at safety he's been getting looks as a 1
Christian Elliss, if he plays, big fan of his style and ascension
Sydney Brown the guy I want to start at S
Mario Goodrich probably will be the backup slot CB
Dennis Kelly and Josh Sills - I'm curious if both these guys make the roster
Ngata - prob will be a high priority PS player, has had a good camp
Moro Ojomo - has played decent, wonder if he makes the team as the last DT
Ricks and Ringo - need to see them steadily improve. Ricks probably isn't making the roster
Tyler Steen - I feel good about him. He seems pretty natural at LT, but will look more at his G play b/c thats what they drafted him to do
Kvon - seems Desai is getting something more/different out of Wallace these days. I am rooting for him b/c we need competency at S.
