2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (9 Viewers)

That Slay deal went down the way it was structured. Always unlikely he was going to see this season under those numbers, and the team knew they would take a cap hit when he was gone. This was always most likely outcome, and he's 32. Wheels can fall off any moment

Of note about the $13MM in cap releasing Slay gets as a post-June 1 move: it just moves that $17MM into next year’s cap hit (of the $26MM in dead money from releasing him.)

Seems he wouldn’t restructure without additional guaranteed years so with no one looking to take him in a trade, they really only two options: keep him here at $23MM cap hit in 2023 or release him.

Also means the space isn’t available until 6/1, so Lane’s restructure might be next in order to sign CJGJ.

So far this offseason is NOT going as I expected, but not too upset or worried yet.

Didn't think Epps and Edwards would get the money they did and would be back. If CJGJ is back then not concerned, but would like to know who's going to play next to Dean. (never considered White would return and not sad he's gone).

Thought Bradberry was a definite goner and the Slay stuff was just posturing and something would get done. While sorry Slay is gone, glad they didn't extend him. Worried his play will drop off soon but would have been fine with one more year from him. At the same time I think Bradberry might be a little overrated, as in not a consistent All-Pro, but still a damn good option at CB. But now a CB at 1 is more likely and almost a necessity which means they'll take something else. Still curious what they have in McPhearson as well.

Love the Penny signing. The big if he can stay healthy, could be a beast behind that line. The Eagles had such great injury luck last season, he'll probably break his arm signing the contract or something.

My updated to do wishlist in no particular order:
Bring back CJGJ
Draft one of the top CBs
Find another LB
Veteran backup QB
Let Seumalo walk so Jurgens can play (nothing against seumalo, but let the young guy play and not waste away on the bench)
D-line depth (curious to see Davis/Milton as the starting DTs, but there's almost nothing behind them)
For the love of God, bring in a UDFA punter or some kind of competition
Almost forgot, a new WR3 since I'm out on Quez at this point. Go run lazy routes somewhere else.

Basically need a lot of young guys to step up big time on the defense or it could get ugly (as of today).

Stolen from Sheil Kapadia, over the last two years there have been 56 RB's with at least 150 carries. Out of those 56 Rb's Penny is #1 in YPC and yards after contact.

Also per Sheil if you go all the way back to the year 2000 there have 247 RB's with at least 300 carries. Penny is one of them and is #1 in YPC.

In the last two years Penny is also #2 in the league in explosive plays per run.
Good stuff right here. Now imagine with this OL.
I heard on the radio that in addition to this, Miles sanders led the league in yards BEFORE contact.

how many defensive starters are gone now, is that like 8?
Slay, Hargrave, Cox, Edwards, White, Epps.

Hargrave and Slay obviously the biggest losses but the others were guys they happened to find last year later in the off season or Cox who came back because no one wanted him.

Cox isn’t gone yet…
Ya I think he will re-sign with us like he did last year.
max value gotta be $5m for 1 year. He ain't getting 13+ again thats for sure
Well damn. Double what I thought. Fletch back on 1 year $10m Deal. Not sure I understand.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cox, 32, received "more lucrative offers" on the open market, but opted to return to Philly.

The Cox money is a little crazy. I can’t think of a single play he made all year.

Sanders got a 4 year deal from Carolina apparently so the money should be interesting.

Daniel Whelan DC Renegades of XFL dude was booming kicks 65+ already.

WR3 Wouldn't have minded JuJu as the 3rd. Though theres a few Decent guys in FA but I think they go draft one.

Fletcher Cox ranked 71st out of 142 interior defenders graded by PFF in 2022 (minimum 20% snaps played).

With a $10 million annual value, he is making top 23ish DT money.

Above: Larry Ogunjobi, Shy Tuttle … behind: Taven Bryan, Nick Williams

Couldn’t believe he had 7 sacks. He seemed invisible to me all year but played a lot of snaps and is a good veteran to have.

Things seem to now be trending toward a Slay return to the Eagles :oldunsure:
Yep. Wow.

"From what I'm hearing per source, it sounds like the #Eagles are having a hard time letting go of CB Darius Slay at this moment, & still wish they could keep him. Let's see if GM Howie Roseman can find another rabbit in his hat--so to speak. No matter what, it's a worthy attempt."

Eagles never officially released CB Darius Slay today and now one source said that the Pro-Bowl CB is “expected to stay with the Eagles. It’s not final, but that’s the way it is looking right now.” A new deal could be in the works.

Man, when this week is over, I am gonna go into football withdrawals until the Draft. What a crazy week.

Big props to Howie- I was expecting us to get gutted on Defense, with the pending cap issues and Hurts' new contract. Losing Hargrave and TJ Edwards stings- those are 2 talented guys that anchored the D. Congrats to them for getting paid. Losing Dillard was a given, not a huge loss.

But, then, hearing that Kelce was coming back, and BG signed a 1-year deal was good news.

Penny was a surprising FA addition. Keep him on a pitch count and see how many games he can stay healthy,

Signing Bradberry for a sweetheart, team-friendly deal was unbelievable. He was clearly the better (and younger) CB in one of the strongest tandems (with Maddox, maybe the best backfield) in the league. But, that meant Slay and his restructure was probably out of the question. So, we are back to drafting CB at 10.

Fletch signs for $10M. Big signing, and I don't get mad when players get paid. Surprised it was for so much, but huge signing considering the DT depth we have and the leadership he brings.

Wait, WHAT?!?!? Slay "gets released" then decides to restructure and come back? Freeing up even more space for the team, which makes re-signing CJGJ possible?

I want a Howie jersey, too. He as been killing it this off season.

Its been a whirlwind for sure. People keep doubting Howie, much like Hurts, and he learns from his mistakes and comes back stronger and better every single year. Gotta love that.

One of my favorite things was on social media all the memes/takes "Guess who has the best secondary in the NFC Now" and its a bunch of photoshopped pics of Gilmore already in a Cowboys uniform, to them late last night and this morning in disbelief that he came back.

Also, considering how many fans of NFC teams (mainly Niners and Cowboy fans) were so apt to give credit of our success solely to "the easiest schedule in professional sports history" and them having a mini celebration in each instance we lost a player to free agency, as if it was not the players driving the success last year. Couple Niners guys even on here "Man we should pick up Slay" Gotta love the ole "I thought I was out, but they pulled me back in" scenario with Slay.

CJGJ you are up sir. I can't see him picking Russ and all those question marks in a competitive division in the AFC West, over choosing the Leadership of Hurts and the culture we have built in Philly.

In Howie We Trust

Between the trade rumors and the release rumors it seems like Howie dared Slay to find a better option and when he couldn't restructured with no new money. He played chicken with Slay and won.

That's what I thought with the trade rumors, but then the reports of the release came out. This offseason is giving me whiplash.

Haven't seen any details yet. Is it just adding fake years to his deal and he's still done after 2023?

Two other proposals from the Eagles that have flown under the radar because of the 4th & 20 onside kick replacement and allowing the jersey #0:
  • Allow kickers and punters to wear 1-49 and 90-99
  • Add tenths of a second to the game clock in the final 30 seconds of each half
