2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (3 Viewers)

Bijan to Phi & TB for Visits

Wonder if it's smoke screen or real interest?

The drumbeat gets louder for Bijan at ten. Even an ESPN article had Howie Roseman asking Bijan for an elevator pitch about why he should go tenth. I don't know. It makes too much sense, and Bijan is so good - he'd make that offense nearly unstoppable. There are no red flags with Bijan, unlike CEH at 32, who had tons if you ask me. But drafting him tenth just doesn't fit analytically. We shall see.

Do you think anyone from the Eagles is leaking this?

I'm on the Bijan train. at 10, maybe its not great value, but there is a big difference between drafting a guy/reaching and pretty much being sure he will be good (no sure things sure) and it being a mistake. A mistake is like when we drafted a 25 year old fireman offensive lineman that didn't like football in the first round. Sometimes you gotta reach for the guy you want and he might be the best fit/biggest bang for your buck. I keep thinking about this quote from Howie Roseman as it regards to the notion nowadays to "not draft a running back early"

“I kind of try to zig a little bit when people are zagging and just try to stay ahead of it," Roseman said. "The league’s set up based on cap and picks and they really want everyone to be 9-8 or 8-9 and just have that competition, and so I think if you want to really be great you almost have to take chances that maybe don’t work out"

Howie Roseman, the hardest to read GM in the NFL, is openly showing everyone his interest in Bijan Robinson. You can think one of 2 things. He's feigning interest to drum up trade talks for the pick or he's mindgaming someone before him to take Bijan and let a better player drop to them.

One thing is certain, The Eagles do not draft RBs in the first round.

Would love to grab Bijan......around pick 20-25. BUt aren't we expecting Philly to move one of these ones back a bit?
I'd be ok with grabbing him at 10...there's no giant glaring need elsewhere

Agreed, but another option is if the Eagles trade down and Robinson could be a target if he slides.

A couple of things though, all teams keep their options open and no team is leaking their true intentions to the media, agents, or their spouse.

Yup, I think one of those for sure. People gotta chill on the Bijan at 10 stuff, not happening.

Do you think anyone from the Eagles is leaking this?

No. It was a thoughtpiece with either a hypothetical or actual scene with Roseman asking Bijan that. He was used as an example of a guy who wouldn't want an RB at ten.

No need to subtly jump down my throat about it, either you or Insein.

But you have to admit the drumbeat of Bijan as a top ten back is growing louder and louder among draftniks. Make of that what you will.

I'm not jumping down your throat at all.

My personal opinion is any drumbeat with respect to any player is coming purely from agents. Or teams are using "whispers" to their advantage during this peak smokescreen period.

As long as he’s on the right side of the ball and has someone to keep him out of player relationships he’s fine.
His defenses with New England weren't very good either and we know who was really running it anyway. And I remember when the Lions had hired him and I watched that Super Bowl excited to see how our new coach would do in his final game as DC of the Pats. Well you are an Eagles fan, you know how it went. Gave up 41 points to Nick Foles. I knew then that it was going to be another Lions disaster.

Exactly. All of the Bijan talk in the city and from the fans is going to be nothing but wasted time. At least with Mariota there was a realistic possibility. But, for those that really believe it, you'll have your chance to back it up on Monday when the annual Eagles Thread draft contest kicks off!!

Aren’t you the guy that’s been posting “the eagles don’t draft running backs in the first like those idiots in Dallas” ?

Make up your mind

Fine may not have been the best choice of word. I meant more like not as much of a dumpster fire🤣

Why sad, Birdie?

REASON FOR SAD FACE: As an owner of the 1.01 and from South Philly, I would love Bijan to Philly.
Getting selected #10 by Eagles would be nearly perfect IMO.
The potential of him NOT going early/#10 to Philly risks serious odds of him getting picked up elsewhere..
There are so many other teams who could benefit from an elite RB joining their offense - LAC, CIN, TB, Dallas all as potential destinations.

Just read the Matty Patty headline and literally gasped "Oh God!"

I guess as defensive assistant he might be ok.
Well he called Darius Slay a fag and ran him out of town, trading him to Philly for nothing. Patricia got rid of every decent player on Detroit's defense. He is poison. Good luck with that.

Trade back if you want a rb. I'm against taking any rb in round 1 though
Especially in a class where RB depth is one of it's strengths
But the difference in Bijan in 1st vs say Achane or Roschon in the 3rd?
Bijan is a "do it all" ... while Gainwell/Roschon are splitting roles & touches... Neither gets into a rhythm of the game to build off.
Where is the value? Not Fantasy but real football?

I don't think that was me, but we certainly won't ever draft a running back in the top 5. Not over a generational CB talent at least. What I want is not the same as what the Eagles will or might do, but the fact is the Eagles have not drafted a running back in the 1st round since 1986, and a lot of people expect that trend to continue. I'm not one into following trends to predict the future of sports teams, not in the NFL at least. I'm sure if I said that though it could easily be found.

Well it's not like he has any real power in the position but yeah I would rather him not be on my team

Rbs don't matter man. Dime a dozen.

That is a false comparison though. Of course Bijan is way better and more versatile than Achane or Roschon. Now let's compare the OT, CB, DE, etc. that can be had round 1 vs round 3. Now lets compare salary allocation of RB vs those marquee positions.

That is a little strong for me. All thing equal, Bijan is way better but you have to take the whole draft and roster into context.

I agree. The potential for a solid starting OT or DL over Bijan is a smart move... Core Line Players over RB.
If DL Jalen Carter or OT Paris Johnson or (even short-arm) OL Peter Skoronski are available at 10, I can see them over Bijan.
Side note: Do you think Georgie DL Jalen Carter would be happy playing with old teammate Jordan Davis again? :towelwave:
But if JSN or QJ is the "best value" on the board, Bijan fits the need better. WR is not a need in the 1st.
How the Draft plays out matters... if ARich is there at 10 and somebody like TB, Wash or NYG (!!), maybe they make a move? Then Bijan value later makes sense.
It also matters where they rank some of the OL and who would be available at 30 or if they believe there is a gem in the 2nd/3rd worth a pick instead of the major investment in 1st. Philly has a tendency to OL with the plans to "develop and coach" them into starters. Low Risk / High Reward.

My only hope is that adding Patricia was someone already on the staff doing him a favor since I assume his reputation around the league is garbage right now. Give him a title, help build him back up for another chance to ruin someone else's team. Otherwise what's he bringing to the table? He's bad at defense, he alienates players, including one currently on the roster, where's the upside? At the end of the day this will probably amount to nothing, but right now I straight up hate this.

Eagles announced coaching updates for 2023 and on the team website Matt Patricia was listed as Senior Defensive Assistant...until it was deleted about 10 minutes later. :ponder:
Looks official now....

Eagles hired ex-Patriots OC Matt Patricia as senior defensive assistant.

Just here for the replies.
I'm indifferent on the hire. I don't think he's that good of a coach, as he got exposed in the sb and Bill likely ran that good Pats d anyways.

But also not sure if there;s as much downside as some suggest. He's not in charge (far from it), so doubt he's gonna be going around ripping into players. Also I'm sure Howie addressed that in the interview and wouldn't put up with that.

Even if he's an extra set of eyes and gives a bit of input, why not?

Despite Hurts not being the greatest quarterback that ever walked on water, this really was a great signing and job by the Eagles.
Jesus played QB?

By reading what some Eagles fans post on social media or how they talked about the guy last year apparently he did
All the likes 👍
It's like these youtubers who makes click bait comments no matter the subject or some hot take. It's all for likes and views. The homers of the subject will eat it up though as it gives them some gratitude so they have something online to brag about.

In his press conference with Howie, after this happened, Nick was asked about it and said things "are trending" toward Patricia joining his staff. Said talked to Slay about it and will be "a good working relationship", if it happens.
I just don't understand the "WHY" of bringing him here. We have been flirting with this for a few months now. It just doesn't add up to me.

He was also accused of rape in College when he went to DET to be the HC. His wife didn't know about it and it almost killed their marriage. Not sure whatever happened to the allegations though.

C'mon Howie, Please draft Jalen Carter and a couple Penn State players

It's mind games or trying to wean people off a guy they are targeting. Eagles just don't leak their info to anyone and well run. I liken it to the Union back when they started. With their old coaches and all everyone and anyone was willing to leak info. You knew a player signing weeks in advance. After they reorganized fired a few guys and got to running a well run org the leaks stopped. Eagles wouldn't be willingly leaking stuff unlike what Chip Kelly.

Let another team make the dumb move and draft Bijan now. With our Offensive line the mind set the last few yrs is anyone and everyone if they are good enough can run behind it. It's why we don't need a premium back. Say Bijan slips to our pick in the 2nd round. Yeah you take him but not in the 1st.

He’ll be doing nothing more than X’s and O’s with coaches and after having your DC replaced his experience will be good to have. And I know this may sound strange, but not all coaches and players get along. There’s “poison” on every team at every level of this sport.

I hear ya there. Just from what I have heard pretty much with everywhere he has been he is not quite the "people person" so I'm hoping his expertise/experience outweighs those types of things. Nick said he had talked to Slay about it so I guess its all good. Just seems a move for him to rehab his career for a year potentially to move on to another DC role in the future. Totally "meh" move for me.

I'd imagine as a defensive specialist coach, he's not interacting with players day to day and just talking strategy for each week's game plan.

So lost in the shuffle of the contract and nonsense here. Hurts had surgery to remove "hardware" from his ankle.

Thank you. This kind of post is a zillion times more useful than the posts that are mostly taking shots at other posters here.

Everyone please post way MORE of this type. And totally drop the posts talking about other posters here.

The bolded is why I laugh whenever I read that Team X has taken player "Y" off their draft board, or that there's a lot of chatter the Eagles are going to take Bijan at 10.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman playing 'poker' ahead of draft: 'Nobody has any idea what we're going to do'

The weeks leading up to the NFL draft are filled with lies, false flags and shell games as clubs try to jockey for positioning.
Amid the fibs told during each club's pre-draft press conference, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman offered the most honest quote of lying season.
"This is a huge game of poker, and all you want to affect is the outcome of your desired results," Roseman said Thursday. "Am I going to give you guys any answers today? No, not even a little bit. But I think the reality of it is anyone who's sitting there and saying, 'Hey, I know exactly what's going to happen at pick 11 or pick 12 or pick 6 or 20, it's all a guess."
Take everything said before April 27 with a giant heaping of salt. It behooves no club to be transparent about its plans and process. Even the Carolina Panthers sitting at No. 1 overall are playing coy with their decision.
With picks 10 and 30, the Eagles could be movers and shakers come next Thursday, especially given Roseman's propensity for draft-day trades.
"Nobody has any idea what we're going to do. I know that," he said, noting that anyone claiming they know what a team might do is probably getting played.

Roseman noted that the disparate personalities leading each franchise are what makes the draft such a wild ride, with player grades varying wildly from team to team.
"The things that we're seeing that we think are so clear and so transparent to another team are totally opposite," he said. "That's what makes the draft kind of fun. You see things and you go there and you go, there's no way that everyone's not going to see the first 10 picks exactly how we see them, and there will be a difference of opinion. That's what's really interesting and unique about the draft process."
In less than a week, we'll see who did the best job of lying and blowing smoke ahead of the draft, hoping to get a player to fall their way.

They may take Bijan somewhere in the 1st, but they sure as hell didn't tell any draftnik or beat writer he's their target. McShay has a report out now that the Cowboys are "obsessed" with taking an RB. How does McShay know that? Is someone from the Dallas war room giving him their draft strategy? Highly unlikely.

"Everyone's talking about the Eagles taking Bijan!". Perhaps, but not the Eagles. Lots of click bait and things thrown at the wall so someone can say "see! I told you!".
