2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (2 Viewers)

Man. What a s***** game plan and performance. Took me a while, but I'm on the "get rid of Brian Johnson" bandwagon finally. The calls are just mediocre and not very well thought out. We need a change from him next year. I've been screaming "run the ball" every week for too long. We come out with pass/pass/pass on literally every single opening of every single game and its just too predictable now. Teams just play "cover everyone/go tackle Jalen" for the opening of every game now. I don't get it.

And Jalen, ffs man, you gotta stop trying these "go this way" directions in the pocket when you've already been sitting there for 5 seconds. Get rid of the ball. Or run. But sitting back there hoping something will open up in the next 1 second doesn't do anything for me.

And lastly, Howie. I give the guy all the credit in the world, but I hope this is another lesson he will add to his list of corrections: f****** invest in the LB position already. Like, its really really REALLY bad now. We have marginal talent and zero depth. Tight ends and running backs just eat us for lunch these days.

And Bradley Roby - if he is here WHY are we still throwing Eli Ricks out there? An UDFA running around in some of the most important games is just unacceptable. If he was playing well, I'd get it, but....he is not.

Dallas is gonna be super ready for us. They will be happy the Niners beat us "see its not just us!" and ready to take this division from us. We must turn this around quick or its over real fast.

nah even if dallas beats us next week they are gonna drop another game or 2. i could see the bills, miami, or detroit getting them. the division is ours. the number 1 seed though? i dunno
I'm not so sure anymore. Was riding high until we got smacked around yesterday. Straight up.

One thing I can take solace in is this stupid "refs love Philly" narrative is in the ground and dead. The refs have been bad for a while now, this game we didn't get any calls to favor us. There are at least half a dozen pretty bad ones that either were called or were not called and we were not the beneficiary on any of them.

they beat us down for sure. but eagles looked tired. esp on defense. 3 games in like 12 days or something? one of them an OT rain game....im giving them a pass. if they play like this again next week i will be worried

Just look at how open SF’s receivers are versus what it takes for us to complete a pass. This is kind of what ticked me off when everyone would just blast stats for these coordinators when you could see what was happening.

I have the benefit of watching the games through All-22 and Hurts had no one open constantly.

The stars lined up for this game though. SF was well rested having 10 days rest, fully healthy in essentially a must win revenge game. We played 3 games in 13 days and are banged up. This was bound to happen. I’m still worried about the Dallas game though. They’ll also be well rested in a must win and we haven’t beat them there since 2017 and haven’t swept them since 2011.

Yeah Purdy just had every single underneath route all game long. I feel annoyed b/c I don't think he is all that great of a deeper ball, accurate passer, thought we should have challenged their WRs and him way more than we did. But is what it is, no excuses we got pummeled in every aspect of the game. It hurts, but I'm not gonna let it ruin my week haha. Or try not to.

Onto Dallas

Despite the good start, the defense looked gassed to me...half a step behind or off all night long, lot of broken tackles by Deebo and CMC. Eagles LOOKED like a tired team, at least on defense. It was unreal how many times CMC ran through a hole with Eagles defenders on both sides of him laying just a hand on him, JUST missing tackles.

Thought the offense was fine on the whole. SF is a great defense, and without a single stop after the first quarter, it wasn't like the offense had a lot of drives to work with.

This game will look a lot different in January. Question is where will we play it?
“While the 49ers have had 10 days to prepare for today’s game in Philadelphia, the Eagles are playing their third game in 13 days, including an OT win over Buffalo last Sunday in which their defense logged 97 snaps. “
I won’t use excuses because they are like *** holes everyone has one, but I think being on the field last 2 games like that before has contributed it. Also the offense isn’t doing them any favors with 1st half struggles all year and not having long sustained drives where they eat up more clock.

The guy's name is Dom DiSandro? Amazing.

He'll be eating free cheese steaks for life
He already does. Lurie pays the man well because he's good at his job. He's the guy that handles all the off field issues for the team. He investigates potential draft picks and reports back if their baggage is worth it for the team or not. His input on Jalen Carter was vital to their draft strategy.

That said he probably isn't near the sidelines for awhile.
He investigated Watson and basically told the Eagles Watson can go F himself. He went down with several other members of the staff to investigate and realize Watson wasn’t taking this seriously nor was he apologetic for his actions. The Eagles took Vick all those yrs ago because they saw at that point he was sincere and willing to work. After Reid’s kids issues he was more about 2nd and 3rd chances given to the right people.

I think he already has been 😂 He’s a minir celebrity in Philly already. Don’t remember him being prominent on the sidelines before.
He’s been with the team for yrs now. He started as an intern and took over for what’s his name who use to be Andy Reid’s head of security. Dom went down to bring Lane Johnson back when he left the team that one time. I’ve heard from people if it wasn’t for Dom Lane isn’t getting on that plane

Why was Hurts back in the game yesterday down by 23 late after getting banged up and checked for a concussion? Let Mariota clean it up and just hand it off.

No reason for him to be on the field at that point, and he took another sack. Also Swift got lit up on a crossing pattern the last meaningless drive. Looked dazed when he walked off the field.

Makes no sense putting key players at risk that late in a losing battle.
I understand bringing him back for the next-to-last drive to show the team that he is OK and to build morale for next week.

But he should not have come back out for the last drive.

I wish I felt more confident about our offense but I could see another rough week ahead with the abysmal playcalling. I’m confident our D can bounce back, look at the first quarter they had yesterday. It’s demoralizing though when you put forth that effort and your offense is taking ghost sacks and holding the ball for eternity and not delivering.

Isn’t Johnson the guy that got his job because of his relationship with Hurts? Could make for a tricky parting.

I don't really know how to word this. That security guy is an employee for the Eagles organization correct? Can the NFL suspend him? They suspended the cameraman in the Tyreek celebration. Was he an NFL cameraman or team cameraman? I get teams are part of the NFL, but that does come with boundaries. The NFL cant tell a team to raise prices on soda. Or they cant have them paint bathrooms. Help me understand.
Camera guy was nfl employee who was a huge Tyrese fan and just in the moment couldn’t believe he got it. Dom is head of Eagles security so if there’s an incident involving a player or team staffer with cops involved he’s the guy they talk to first. Dom also is in charge of protecting the staff from themselves and others. The thing with kinlaw was he was no different then another staff member separating players from fighting. Kinlaw has a history of stupid behavior to get himself ejected so I’m sure that played into it as well as the two teams history and sone antics by 49ers players and coaches beforehand.

Kyle Shanahan came out saying a non member of the coaching staff for taunting his players who isn’t involved in the game? Shanny buddy you are inferring then the fans shouldn’t boo or cheer during games either. SF org is as soft as baby ****. No wonder Harbaugh left

To be clear, we got boat raced, exposed and just had a thorough *** whooping. Some random thoughts..

Playing 3 enormous games in 13 days ending against a stud team on 10 days rest absolutely impacted this game. I don't care what anyone says.

We continue to frustrate on Offense. Lack of consistent run game, too much Gainwell, under utilizing and poorly using Swift (can we get this ****ing guy out in space, FFS?), under using quick hitting slants in lieu of long, slow developing routes (against the best D line we'll face all season). Just inexplicable across the board.

Missing Dallas Goedert is really apparent. He is clearly a major cog in the run game and a security blanket for Jalen when these 6-8 second developing plays don't actually develop.

Our defense played soft. We were a very good tackling team coming into last night, but man, they looked like a bunch of matadors last night. Across the board just terrible, terrible lack of effort.

Sign Shaq Leonard now. Him at 75% is SUCH AN UPGRADE over the garbage we trotted out last night.

Said it the game thread, but going FG, FG to start the game was the first nail in the coffin. Punting on 4th and 2 after SF had scored three straight TDs was gutless and the point that I knew we were going to lose.

We are not as good as I thought we were. I'm concerned about Dallas and I'm concerned that we are going to drop from 1 seed to 5 seed. My only thought/hope is that they looked at this game as a scheduled loss (to use a sizers term, lol) knowing that they would be seeing SF again in the playoffs and didn't want to show their hand. I'll fully admit that this is a ridiculous coping mechanism and I don't care.

WTF on the recent title change. What a crock of desperation for attention.
It’s funny stop being soft
Says the guy that puts people on ignore. Lol
Meh, I've got guys on ignore too. If people are just going to come in here and troll and try to get a reaction, why give them what they want? I wish more people did, the lame arguments make it a pain to find the actual football talk.
I’ve put people on ignore now just because they aren’t worth getting into a pissing match with or get too personal. Plus it hides clutter and keeps my page clean. Never got why people continue to talk about posters instead of just using the ignore feature. It’s there for a reason.

The first quarter defensive performance was all about the DL.

But look at what happened the rest of the game. When SF didn't get to the QB, they still had success sometimes because the coverage was good. When we didn't get to the QB, it was almost always a completion because guys were running free.

You aren’t wrong, I think I just have some confidence in our defensive coordinator and none in our OC unfortunately.

To be honest though seeing our schedule start of the season no way I thought we would be 10-2. There are going to be letdowns, now’s where we see what they are really made of the next couple weeks.

O got a feeling the media is over playing the relationship thing. If they were that close Hurts would’ve went to Miss ST with Dan Mullen as HC when Brian was there but went to ‘Bama instead? I get it, bigger school more success but if that relationship is as good as people say it was then I would’ve thought he’d go to Miss but I heard Jalen’s father back in those days was a huge issue for coaches and recruiters to deal with. His dad seams to have settled since.

I just hope this isn’t another Wentz situation where the Cordinator and player are too friendly and Hurts isn’t getting coach up to his or Nick’s standards. Is it just bad playcalling? Maybe, trust issues maybe? BJ in over his head at the NFL level and more suited for College? Could be.

If the Eagles don’t fix this I can see us losing in Dal where we haven’t won’t since 17 and losing to Sea following MNF in Sea where we’ve struggled for awhile.

this. Eagles will be road dogs this week, and Dallas will be well up for it. Assuming the Eagles take care of business the final three weeks, either the Cowboys game or the Seahawks game will put them in the drivers seat for the division. But the margin of error for top seed may be 0.

The idea of resting players early might be out the door. But the Niners remaining schedule isn’t exactly easy. I feel like the Eagles should be ok even if they lose to Dallas as long as they win out after that.

nah even if dallas beats us next week they are gonna drop another game or 2. i could see the bills, miami, or detroit getting them. the division is ours. the number 1 seed though?

The first quarter defensive performance was all about the DL.

But look at what happened the rest of the game. When SF didn't get to the QB, they still had success sometimes because the coverage was good. When we didn't get to the QB, it was almost always a completion because guys were running free.
Same defense as last year. This style of defense has only three main tenants as far as I can tell. 1. Don't give up the big play deep. 2. Hope the d-line can cause havoc. 3. If it doesn't, hope the offense makes mistakes before putting together a 12 play drive. Works against bad offenses or if the d-line can take over a game, otherwise you get murdered slowly drive after drive.

Not a fan of this style at all, just in general and with the talent they have, This style needs quality LBs who can cover and we all know how the Eagles value LBs. Even then it's soft garbage, but it's what we have for now and been trying to make the best of it.

If your defense's main factor is relying on hope, you've already lost.

If he was playing well, I'd get it, but....he is not.

BUt they will no longer control their own destiny.

TBH, the 2 seed wouldn't be the end of the world. This team can compete in SF, and if it came to that it would be with the SB trip on the line

we arent getting the pressure we got last year......

We can’t get off the field on 3rd down. It’s annoying as hell.

Regardless of what happens (deep playoff run, one and done, Super Bowl), the defense needs to be revamped for next season.

I'm an unbiased non-Eagles fan but I don't understand how the NFL could give them a 4 game stretch like they are one and have them play the second game of that stretch on a short week and then play the third and fourth games against teams with 4 extra days rest. Then just for kicks their 5th game in this stretch has this tired worn down team making what I think is the longest possible road trip. It is IMO the biggest screw job of a schedule I've ever seen levied against an NFL team.

Is that definitely true? What if there is like 3 or 4 teams in the NFC that end up with 3 losses? Do the Eagles win a tiebreaker?

So far, we have 2 losses and 1 conference loss, but if we tie with SF they get the tiebreaker b/c they beat us yesterday.

As far as with Dallas, if we lose to them even and win the rest, we would have a tie breaker over them b/c of only 2 conference losses.

They definitely didn't do us any favors but you have to play the schedule as it's built. We beat Dallas next week and we're through the rough patch.

If it's non divisional tie breaker, then it would be the team with the best conference record. Niners only have 1 conference loss too.

Yeah I dunno either. It is kind of a bummer, but I guess that's what we get for having the easiest schedule in professional sports history last year. Is what it is, and so far are 3-1. The kicker is we go to Dallas and THEN to Seattle. But that Seattle game has now been flexed to MNF so it kind of gives us a small bump as far as rest days.

Kind of have a reward with Giants/Cardinals/Giants to end the season (and you can bet there will be rival fans crying about this once their team loses a game or 2 and all we have to do is mow down these 3 crappy teams to get the 1 seed. Like clockwork).
The difference is the teams you play is not a choice by the league office so the easy schedule they had last year and will close with this year is not a decision or choice anyone can make and as such rival fans have no business crying over it IMO. Can only beat who you play.

The timing of when those games is played is entirely a league decision however and that's where the Eagles got screwed, not in who they play. I'm actually upset about it as an NFL fan. I know before the season started I viewed SF vs Philly as one of the top 3 games of the season and don't think with the schedule Philly was on they did the game any justice.

Yeah I'm with ya. If you wanna schedule "tough games" in a row that is one thing, but playing 2 teams in back to back weeks coming off 10 days rest is kinda lame. And the one game we played after our bye week, the Chiefs ALSO were coming off a bye week.

Funny the same group of fans talking about how "easy" the schedule was last year, this year when its them having it very easy, "Gotta play your schedule what can you do"

Haha, we are all hypocrites to a degree though with our teams

That's where I'm at. After being in the Super Bowl, you open the season away at Pats? That was disrespectful. Drawing the gauntlet I have no problem with, you play who you play. But stacking Dallas, Chiefs, Bills, Niners, Dallas, Seattle all on top of each other, while facing Andy off of their bye on a MNF game, then Buffalo on a short week, then Niners (3rd game in 13 days) while they are on ten days rest, followed by traveling to Dallas when THEY have had ten days rest then traveling home then out to Seattle is ****ing rough. Like, we play NYG twice in three weeks at the end of the year. You're telling me they couldn't have split the six brutal matchups up with a NYG game to eliminate some of the above rest disadvantages?

We must turn this around quick or its over real fast.

nah even if dallas beats us next week they are gonna drop another game or 2. i could see the bills, miami, or detroit getting them. the division is ours. the number 1 seed though? i dunno
BUt they will no longer control their own destiny.

TBH, the 2 seed wouldn't be the end of the world. This team can compete in SF, and if it came to that it would be with the SB trip on the line
Is that definitely true? What if there is like 3 or 4 teams in the NFC that end up with 3 losses? Do the Eagles win a tiebreaker?
Besides SF, who else is remotely likely to finish with 3??

SF, Eagles, Dallas, Detroit, although If I had to pick 3 teams Dallas would not be included b/c they are going to drop 1 or 2 methinks

This is just a criminal use of personnel. I get this isn't the biggest issue, but to my dying day I will never understand this.

Running back
39 snaps: Kenny Gainwell
30 snaps: D'Andre Swift
6 snaps: Boston Scott
And what's the point of keeping Penny? He's a different back then all of them and he's never dressed on GameDay.

That and how they rarely use Scott. I'm not a huge fan of his, and his Giant killer thing is funny, but I'd rather see at least half of Gainwell's touches/snaps go to him. Actually, I'd rather they sat Gainwell and split among Swift/Scott/Penny. I can't believe Gainwell is THAT much better in pass protection to deserve the treatment he's getting.

Penny with fresh legs and a pissed off attitude would be a great change of pace to smash into the line instead of Swift. Looking at their size, I'm actually surprised Penny and Swift are pretty close in weight. Swift being shorter. Their styles are completely different though.

i thought gainwell actually looked ok yesterday. anyways, what happened to Slay? i think we all know Bradberry is done. but I thought slay would be able to make some plays. never even hear his name during the game

Sorry to harp, but Gainwell looking OK is his ceiling. He has zero big play ability. I don't understand why the coaching staff treats him like some established, veteran star player.

Yeah the Penny stuff I mean, I'm going into deep conspiracy mode here, but maybe "they are saving him for the playoffs so there isn't any film on him" kinda move? I dunno. I know Gainwell appears to be our best pass protector so that would explain to me at least, why he gets on the field more than Swift.

But I got nothing real logical for Penny's lack of playing time. Or why we just don't try to stick w the run more in general.

not really planned that way though. Gainwell is and has been the 3rd down/hurryup back and Eagles were in a different mode much of that game.

Gainwell isn't the runner Swift is, but he's actually pretty good in his role

I mean it was 14-6 at half and 21-13 midway through the 3rd. It didn't get out of hand until about under 20mins left. We just don't run the ball unless forced to.
