2023 Pittsburgh Steelers. Banged up team loses to Buffalo. Looking ahead to 2024 now (1 Viewer)

Rooney's are notoriously cheap there not super deep pocket owners. But you can't tell me that the Rooney's can't afford to eat the OC's contract. Heck Steeler's fans would support a GoFundMe page of Fire Canada help Rooney's eat his salary.
Just because you can afford something doesn't mean you'll do it, aka, why people call him cheap.

He spends on players, but usually won't give guarantees. We have the smallest coaching staff in the NFL. Our facilities were rated really poorly by players. Etc.

Browns are not an expansion team any longer.
Kenny isn't good, the OC isn't good, but Tomlin was right, Browns have a good defense and make a lot of offenses look bad.
Fans think team-centric until they get beat over the head with the truth and the truth is that it isn't always just the Steelers.
Give the Browns defense credit.

If you have a 1 read QB, the coach needs to add some variety/creativity to the play calling. I’m getting real close to being in the fire Tomlin camp. If he can’t see how bad Canada is by now, he’s a major part of the problem.

Yes but Canada gave Tomlins kid a scholarship to play at Maryland and I believe that was his only D1 offer.

You can’t get rid of Canada!!!!! 🙃
Can we do a Go Fund Me to pay Maryland back?

Browns defense is elite but we're in here to vent today. Far worse defenses have made the Steelers offense look pathetic.

  • Browns - 106 yards passing
  • Packers - 126 yards passing
  • Titans - 160 yards passing
  • Jaguars - 73 yards passing
It's not just the Browns.

It wasn't the Browns at all. It's a solid defense, good players. But the offense the Steelers ran is more of the reason they sucked than anything the Browns did.

Tomlin's press conference coachspeak is only good for soundbites, but he generally says nothing and the coaching staff doesn't adjust anything either.... unless moving Canada to the sideline counts.

It's a bad offense with a bad QB and a bad OC. And we better get used to it, because Tomlin's ego and the Rooney family's wallet won't allow them to go out and hire someone who can own the offense like is necessary when you no longer have a first ballot HOF QB leading the unit.

Give Browns D credit for being good... they may be good, but they got exposed on the ground. Steelers outgained the Browns on the ground 2-1 especially with #30 toting the rock. Ground game was there. That success should make life much easier on the OC & Pickett attacking the middle of the field through the air. Receivers were open and completely missed or ignored. Can't give the Browns much credit this week because Steelers self inflicted passing futility shows up every single week.

This same Browns team allowed the Colts to score 38 pts. Yes, they're good. So what? That doesn't negate many of the poor aspects of our offense.

"We expected them to play man, they played zone, we had 0 answers." That's basically what Kenny said after the game. Also, it wasn't the D that forced Kenny to stare down his 1st read over and over and over the last few weeks. We're having all the same issues we've had against every team, it just looked worse yesterday because the D is better.

I did hear (can't find the stat) that the Browns have the lowest yards against per game since the 08 Steelers did it at something 238 yds. I think Browns are currently 242 or something

Najee must be a hater because some fans are content with the surface record and cheer about it weekly while ignoring the glaring reality of it all,

“You can look at it two ways,” Harris said, via the Post-Gazette. “You can look at the record and say, ‘OK, we’re still good right now.’ Or you can look at the record and be like, ‘If we keep playing this type of football, how long is that s*** going to last?

“I look at it like, ‘How long is that s*** going to last? Y’all can look at it like it’s a good record, but it’s the NFL. Winning how we did is not going to get us anywhere.”

With this comment, DJ having to be picked up by Jones and moved away from coaches (and his comments) along with Pickens general frustrations, Kenny and Canada have lost the team and the narrative. We are the laughing stock of the league right now. Rooney made them pick Pickett when they didn’t have a first round grade. His cheapness has them keeping Canada. This is going the wrong way fast.

remember watching that real time and my wife said "the guys in orange must all be psychics"

my take, KP immediately turned his head and stared at warren. defenders didn't hesitate to jump the dump off pass. KP was going there 100% before the ball was snapped. any idiot from their chairs could call a counter there. run the same play other side and tell kenny to immediately turn your head to the check down, hitch your shoulder like you are going to throw it then burn em deep down the middle or up the sideline. do that any number of plays. look off at the check down then throw it down field.

“Everyone is upset,” veteran center Mason Cole said. “We just have to have the attitude of coming in here, putting our heads down and making these corrections and going back to work. Complaining and whining and whatever emotions were going through people’s minds, we can’t do that. There’s too much at stake. We have to be professionals and move on and go win the game in Cincinnati.”
Mason, you are playing terrible this year. Whatever you're doing to "make these corrections" isn't working. Stop complaining about your teammates complaining, if anything they should be calling you out directly. Najee could have said "Yeah, it's tough to get positive yards when your center is being pushed into your lap as you get the ball." But instead he just voiced vague frustration.

"We don't live in our fears."

Yeah you do. Afraid to open up the offense until the end of the game and you're losing. Afraid to start rookies even though they're better than those ahead of them. Afraid to make significant changes to the staff. I'm sure I could go on...

"blue zebra blue zebra: aka: screen to warren but no receiver blocks. On two on two. Hike!”. From that thread :lmao:

It's obvious to anyone outside of the Steeler coaching staff that KP is completely broken and should not be starting at all. One of the major problems with fluke win after fluke win is that it hides the issues few want to discuss because the team is "winning". They haven't made changes because of this, but when the ref help and fluke runs out, there's nothing to mask the stink anymore.

Good one on The Fan just now: Hearing Mitch Trubisky will get the start Sunday vs the Bengals, per Clarissa Thompson.

I honestly believe that they would not have made that change if they somehow wound up winning that game yesterday.

Just for kicks, I watched a short highlight reel of Pickett from his last year at Pitt. In every single play in that highlight reel, he looked and went to his first read. I literally did not see him ever even look at a second read. The difference? Addison was open by 5 yards on every play and Pickett actually looked accurate (even on the deep ball).

No changes that I'm aware of. The Clarissa thing was related to her saying she just made things up if she didn't have a chance to talk to coaches.

Scouting report says that and bails into sacks. Whoops!

Speaking of Addison - he has more TD receptions than Kenny has TD passes this year. As a rookie WR. I think it’s pretty clear what was going on at Pitt that last year.

The same Browns team. You do know that there are 32 NFL teams who play 17 games a year which is 544 games a year and the stats I shared went back two decades, over 5,000 games SO WHAT about one game that you think makes all the difference.
Kenny isn't good and neither is the OC but the Browns D is special this year SO WHAT about a lame Kenny Pickett or his lame OC or one game. We knew about Kenny and the OC and even great defenses have a game or two off.
The Browns won't go deep into the playoffs with a 5th round rookie and a great defense and the Steelers won't do anything this year with Pickett and that OC.
Going forward, I don't think the Steelers can sit tight or wait to draft another JAG QB late in the first round and think they are OK. They should make a play for someone like a Kyler Murray who 'might' be available, but they won't.

Steelers RB coach Eddie Faulkner is the new OC. Not sure if it is considered interim or permanent.

ETA: Apparently it was Rooney that fired MC

They won't make an outside hire in the middle of the season, but I hope they go outside the organization to find a strong OC and give him full control of the offense after this season is over.

I don't have a lot of faith in Pickett at all, but hopefully someone else can develop him to at least see the wide open receivers he has from time to time and not lock onto his first target. But, that's just what he's been since college.
