2023 Pittsburgh Steelers. Banged up team loses to Buffalo. Looking ahead to 2024 now (3 Viewers)

Too Early 53 Man Roster?

QB (2):
Pickett
Trubisky

RB(3):
Najee
Warren
McFarland

FB (1):
Heyward

WR (6):
DJ
Pickens
Robinson
Austin
Boykin
Miller

TE (3):
Friermuth
Gentry
Washington

OL (9):
Jones
Chuks
Cole
Daniels
Seumalo
Herbig
Moore
Dotson
Anderson

DL (7):
Heyward
Leal
Ogun
Benton
Loudermilk
Adams
Fehoko

OLB (4)
Watt
Highsmith
Herbig
Roche

ILB (4)
Roberts
Holcomb
Robinson
Muse

CB (6)
Peterson
Wallace
Porter
Maulet
Sullivan
Trice

Safety (5)
Fitz
Kazee
Neal
Kilebrew
Norwood

ST (3)
Kuntz
Boswell
Harvin

ETA: Removed Witherspoon -- might be a cap casualty and they just signed Sullivan who can also play in the slot.
Looks pretty spot on, the only notes I'd have are:
  • Harvin might lose his spot to Mann.
  • I'd be surprised if Pierre was gone.
  • Wouldn't be shocked if Adams was gone since we now have Benton and Fehoko at the same position. Could also keep Watts instead (similar but cheaper, saves ~$2 mil).
  • Heyward might take snaps at FB but he's still listed at TE. Really hoping he gets more usage this year.
  • Wouldn't be surprised if Muse didn't make the team and a rookie made it instead for Special Teams (Maybe Monte), he's on a 1-year deal.
  • If Master Teague is healthy, I think he could take MacFarland's spot.
  • Not confident Miller makes the team at WR.

Heard something earlier today, and was convinced it hadda be wrong until I considered it: the Steelers hadnt selected an OT in the first round of the draft in 27 years. 1996. Jamain freakin' Stephens. 🤣

Made me interested enough to check how many times theyve done it, period. Since 1936...a grand total of only 6 times. 6. Two of those guys were the aforementioned Jamain and Tom Ricketts. Egads, no wonder they stopped doing it. 😂

- if Mann and Harvin are “tied” Harvin wins I think.

- can Pierre play inside? Norwood can’t be the backup there.

- Adams a place holder I guess. Could cut for another db.

- I think Heyward plays mostly H/FB and can motion etc.

- muse is the replacement for marcus allen. i think he makes it.

- would love if master could win the spot but i am not confident.

- I like Miller. I think injuries killed a great camp last season and he can be great in the slot for us.

Rumors that Art II wouldn't let Joey Porter Jr. use #5 or put "Jr" on his jersey. Weird thing to have strong opinions about. Who wouldn't love seeing Porter 55, Porter Jr 5.

Maulet being released?
I guess they're confident in Sullivan or some other option.

Also, I've seen most projections have Wallace and Porter competing for a spot with Peterson at the other outside spot. What are the chances they move him to slot nickel/safety sometimes? I'd think his instincts/ball skills would make him valuable there.

Peterson? I think it is possible that he is a starter on the outside (with Wallace), and ends up moving inside like Sutton did in nickel with Porter coming onto the field. Question is does Witherspoon or James Pierre make the team now?

Only leak I have seen so far is week 10 GB @ Pitt , 1pm Nov 12.
Now week 3 at LV.
I hope that at least 2 of Rams/Seahawks/Raiders are back to back so we stay on the west coast. 3 cross country trips during the season would be less than ideal.
Doesn't look like it so far, Seattle week 17 on NYE.

At Cincy Week 12.

That is a crappy away game to have near the end of the season.

I'm seeing 49ers @ Steelers Week 1 (unconfirmed)

I'm going to that game, whatever Week it is. If it's Week 1, at least it's not in the freezing cold...last time I was at Heinz was around Thanksgiving for a game vs Green Bay a few years ago...it was single digit temps. Good times but not good enough to want to do that again in those conditions

2 Thursday games and an early bye. Why do they hate us?
And play easiest team on the schedule, Rams, coming off the bye. You'd like to see that game be a more difficult opponent to get benefit of the week off.

On a plus note I did not see any team with a bye week before we play them.

Still desperate for OLB depth.

Herbig looks tiny.
He's not nearly as strong at this point, but Herbig 6'2" 242 lbs, Harrison 6'0" 240 lbs...

He looked good at Wisconsin, and playing on the same line as Watt or Highsmith and Heyward should allow him better looks. I'm fine with giving him a shot to develop into a solid #3 OLB. If by the end of the training camp they know that he's not close to being the answer, trade for or sign someone when teams are cutting down rosters.

Steelers have signed Hakeem Butler.
Have any players ever fallen out of the NFL completely, then returned and found success? The only one I can think of is Ricky Williams. He retired and was banned for a season, but eventually had another 1100+ yard rushing season for Miami.

James Harrison. Had flamed out in NFLE before Steelers signed him that summer Haggans got hurt.

Kurt Warner count?🤣

Guess it depends on what we'd classify as a "success", too.

I hear you -- but he just looks more like Devin Bush than Silverback to me.
