2024-2025 NCAA College Basketball Thread - Huskers take the Crown! Also Florida did something. (1 Viewer)

Football drives $s, both for the Ath programs and their NIL. No shock the SEC will get 12-13 teams into the NCAAB tourney NIL money may not buy championships, but the competitive landscape is pretty much gone in all college sports. Soon Auburn and Ole Miss gonna be beating Princeton at squash, rowing, and fencing.

It’s getting a little dusty in here listening to Dickie V

I loved it at the end when they made their picks to win the big tournament. Dickie V made the case for Duke. Then one of the other guys picked the exact top five - named all five of them as his prediction saying "whoever among that group stays healthy."

NC vs Duke..... dude.... tie game called off for a lane violation. Ouch

Thanks to NC to make it interesting towards the end.

This is a prime example of why I don’t think I could stomach coaching college hoops. Eighteen year olds making boneheaded decisions like stepping into the lane for no reason down one with four seconds to go would cause permanent ulcers.

The FIBA rule makes the most sense - if the free throw is made, a lane violation is disregarded as it has no effect.
Yep, no advantage gained, let the ft attempt happen.

Street ball = how we play the game at the park in pick up games. No refs so you call your own calls and almost never is a travel called and certainly not a carry. Often an emphasis on one on one play versus team ball since you often are playing with guys you don't usually play with. Emphasis on the "wow" factor to ooo and aaa those watching versus playing good fundamental bball.
Bro you seriously are not watching the nba at all lol. Emphasis on one on one ball? Ball movement has never ever ever ever been better. It’s ok not to like the league, nobody cares but you just aren’t watching the same thing.
I don't think he is watching much street ball either. This isn't the 80s anymore

Gonzaga is an interesting case this year. All of the metrics have them as a top 10 team which translates to a 2-3 seed, but they are certainly getting no higher than a 6 based on resume.

They've lost a ton of close games against good teams so the metrics like them, but from watching them play, they did have a problem closing out games for a while.

They seem to have figured it out late in conference with 3 convincing Q1 wins, but its a small sample size.

What a season for St. John’s. It has been tough being a fan the last 20 years and so glad they are back to relevance after years thinking the program would never return to what it was.

Excited to see how they do in tournament. There defense is relentless with Louis, Scott and Richmond being so long and also able to guard little guys there are very few teams they can’t lock down. Worry shooting will disappear at some point for an entire game but they have managed to score enough to run away with most games in the big east tourney. Will see how that translates to rest of NCAA.

They play boa constrictor ball. You're the opposing team and you're up 2 with 16 minutes to go. Then, you're down 2 with 13 to go and are thinking "we're good". Then you're down 5, then down 7, then the clock runs out.

Any Clemson fans who can chime in on how losing Dillon Hunter affects tournament chances? It seems to be a pretty big blow.

Yea, the win over St Mary's goes to point. Lost to them twice over thr season but thay game looked like the Zags game to lose.

Nembhard is the best PG they have had since Stockton and leading the nation in assists. It seems like they have figured out how to play as a team versus dropping some games through the season.

Likely in that 6-8 seeding area and honestly a team that I would not want to face if I was an opponent. Earlier this year, I was wondering if they would even make the tournament with taxking up those close losses but now they seem to have go it together at the right time and I think can go deep.

As a Carolina/ACC man, it's hard to stomach the SEC basketball dominance, but it's just how it goes now.

At this point, I'd love to see the SEC and B1G just keep growing. Say, 24 teams each with divisions that look similar to the way conferences used to look. Most UNC fans would love to get in to the SEC, but losing local rivalries would suck.

As much as change is tough, I don't think it's hurt college sports in general. There's never been much parity, and the mega SEC/B1G provide even more big time matchups.

Tough seed for Michigan.

But that's ok. Everyone will pick M to get upset in the first round.

SHOCK THE WORLD! GO BLUE!

I don't understand WI getting a 3 and Michigan getting a 5.
They set the board before the Sunday title games.

This isn't a secret, seems like every year the big ten tournament title team complains about their seed. Why can't they move the game up or move the tournament up a day.
BTT has never really meant much come Selection Sunday.

How about the regular season? Above them in the standings. Beat them the only time we played outside the BTT - in Madison.

They might if it didn't end 10 minutes before the selection show.

But whatever. Two things:

1) This was a great season for Michigan. Awesome start to the Dusty May era. Anything in the tournament is gravy.

2) Hopefully they can use that perceived disrespect as motivation.

They said they were primarilly using resume to determine who makes the tournament, and then using metrics more to determine seeding, but they obviously did not do this for Gonzaga. They are an 8 seed with the metrics of a 3 seed.

No Zag fan was expecting a 3 seed but 6 or 7 was the hope. An 8/9 is just a death sentence.

How was strength of schedule?

None of the bracket projections had Gonzaga anywhere near a three seed. All I saw was 7 or 8 so being an 8 is not surprising to me.

Right that's what I said. No one was expecting a three, but if they claim to use metrics at all, ,an 8 seed makes no sense. 6 or 7 was expected.

If I'm reading it right, according to kenpom, WI was 22 and MI was 13.
