2024-2025 NCAA College Basketball Thread - Huskers take the Crown! Also Florida did something. (2 Viewers)

Kept it below 10 at half. If State could make layups it would be wonderful. Just gotta make baskets.

Been a second half team all season.

LFG. SPARTANDAWGS.

They were better than pretty much every team they played all year. Can't be just a second half team against teams like Auburn.

Literally just got power back on with my generator. As soon as the second half started we had a line of tornadic winds roll through so I totally missed the second half. Probably for the best…lol.

Looks like MSU put up a good effort but Auburn was just too much in the end. **** I’ll take a six point loss over a blow out. Very proud of this team. They were an absolute thrill to watch all season.

I'd bet everything I own that the University of Maryland administration is the source of this information, but it's being reported that they offered to make Willard one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in the country and that they upped the men's hoops NIL budget to $4 million (I believe it was $1.2 this past season). The fact that a school as large as MD didn't have a hoops practice facility in this day and age is embarrassing (they are building one now).

One of the local reporters is also saying that Willard signed his offer sheet with Villanova a good while back. I don't know how long ago but, from context, I'm guessing it was well before the NCAAT started.

He also used almost the exact same language in some of his press conferences when he left Seton Hall. Oh, and he Zoom called his players yesterday to tell them he was leaving.

All of this tells me that Willard's actions the last couple of weeks were him trying to set himself up as the victim to save face. I agree with his complaints about the administration, facilities, and the budget, but this wasn't all about that - it was about him. He was always going to Nova once he saw Neptune struggling, IMO.

This isn't me being a disgruntled Terps fan lashing out. I don't see any other way to read what's happened.

Both of my daughters attend MSU. Izzo is absolutely fantastic, but he needs to use the portal if he wants to compete these days.
The offense never looked right. They really didn't play a great game the entire tournament yet somehow got to the Elite 8.

Was a fun ride though.

Williard's gone to Villanova, according the The Athletic.

Maryland has no AD and no head basketball coach. They'll lose Queen to the draft. Reese & Miguel are out of eligibility. I wouldn't be surprised if Gillespie and Rice (among others) transfer out. That team is liable to be really, really bad next year.
Fortunately for them Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, etc ... also have empty teams now too

The current system for portal is killing college basketball. Mid majors are glorified jucos.

Unrelated, but I'd be shocked if at least Braden Smith didn't enter this portal setup (even if it results in Purdue return). Their big man as well but Smith sticks out like a sore thumb as he'll get a monstrous offer. These very good/good college players but not NBA prospects/1st round prospects can make life changing money they may never see again.

Congrats to Auburn. They were the better team - wish we had hit our short range shots with more consistency (that was one of the differences) but maybe that was Auburn's defense. Either way, good luck the rest of the way.

Auburn is a kindred Land Grant spirit. Reason enough to root for them -- though Kelvin Sampson is a true gem and former Spartan, so they definitely get the other half of my vote.

"War Damn Eagle" vs. "Toughest Team Wins"...LFG

Portal $

Money out there is insane. I know for a fact one big that just entered the portal was offered $1.8m through back channel and he's now entered portal. Offer was double what his existing school had offered.

Just nuts out there. Kudos to Coach Painter if he's able to keep a Braden Smith from entering. He'd be leaving a lot of coin on the table if he didn't.

Did the same when he left Seton Hall for Maryland - signed before the Pirates first NCAA Tournament game.

I can't blame someone for wanting to take a better job - but they way he goes about it makes him look a bit slimy, I hope Nova finishes last in the Big East until he gets fired.

Colvin just entered. It was finally starting to click for him. Oh well.

Yeah, this guy is HORRIBLE at breaking up with a school. It's like that Seinfeld episode where Elaine dated a bad breaker-upper. Does this guy not have a business manager? Wife? Friends? From an unbiased outsider's perspective, he comes across as a major tool.

I think Kansas has had 5 players enter the portal this week. On top of 4 graduating, I don’t think I’ll recognize any of the players next season.

Tre Holloman just entered. Surprising. Gonna hurt too.

Easiest path there.

Florida getting abused & pushed around inside by Broome. Blowout in the making.

Broome should have at least 3 fouls by now. He's so lazy defensively, he just reaches in and swipes as guys drive by. At least 3 times he clearly caught a guy across the wrist or elbow and no call on an OBVIOUS hack.

Then on the other end he turns around and cries every time he gets touched. Maybe grab the elbow or wrist or whatever he can milk some announcer sympathy for.

Dude is a baller but he's so unlikeable, and should be on the bench with a bunch of lazy fouls right now.

Agree, he is a drama queen. They call fouls if you breathe on someone but Broome pushes his way from the 3 point line all the way to the basket and nothing.

What's the point of replay if they can't actually get the call correct? That should be an offensive foul on Auburn and Haugh not have his 4th.
