2024-25 NBA Thread: thread title guy on vacation just like your favorite team (33 Viewers)

Since no one asked, there have been 12 other teams beside 2023-24 BOS that won 80 total games in a season (including 2015-16 GSW that didn't win the title). Those teams averaged 83 wins. Here's what happened in the following season:

- The combined regular season and playoff win total dropped to an average of 75 wins.
- 11 of the 12 made it to the Finals (2009 BOS lost in the second round).
- 7 of them won the title.

Page 2 bump.

Rumors of Hardaway plus a pick going to Detroit, maybe Grimes back to Dallas.

Would go into Det cap space and open up the MLE for Dal to use to keep DJJ.

Get the feeling today is the last day of Jarameee Grant's time as a Blazer. Fare thee well, Geiramei.
I’ve seen too many people putting him as an option for the Lakers. I like Grant, but not his contract (even though Portland never trades with LA).
There's been lots of reporting that the FA market is going to be weaker than expected with everyone freaking out about the second apron. I imagine those same concerns are going to limit the market for higher-paid non-stars like Grant.

Former Pistons GM Troy Weaver gets hired by the Wizards as part of their front office.

Literally the only place he could have went and it wasn't a step up.

Can’t believe draft is tomorrow - for some reason I thought first round was Thursday.

My Lakers draft thoughts:

- I hope they’ll stay at 17, but would be fine if they moved back for more picks (like with Utah for 29&32) if my top targets are all gone at 17

Dream scenario (since I’ve seen some mocks where he’s falling to the teens, but it’s very unlikely)
- Ron Holland

Guys I’d love if they slipped, but still unlikely they’ll be around
- Devin Carter
- Zach Edey (although I might prefer the guys in the next tier to him)

More Realistic targets that are my favorites
- Tristan Da Silva
- Isaiah Collier

Trade down for someone like DaRon Holmes or Filipowski if the guys above are all gone.

Worst case scenario
- Bronny James at 17 (or even at 29/32 range if they trade down). I’m fine with him at 55 or if they buy a pick in the second to get him. I’d be pissed if they used their first on him.

They won't trade him to the Lakers, agreed. He's going to Dallas I think.

On his contract:

ESPN's Kevin Pelton detailed how the Trail Blazers could look to take advantage of the new CBA by offloading the salary of Grant to an opposing team. With the costs increasing, Grant's contract could be seen as a steal for a player of his caliber.

"Portland will ideally take advantage of a team desperate for an immediate upgrade to command a massive return for forward Jerami Grant, whose contract looks far more palatable with the salary cap set to jump 10% annually going forward."

Boston has pick 54 and that would be hilarious if they took Bronny.

Yeah agreed - his salary going forward isn’t as bad with the projected new cap levels.

The issue for the Lakers with his salary is who they’d need to send to match his $.

I mean....you said it. Portland is never ever going to make a trade with LAL. Ever. Like, never.

With all this soccer going on I forgot all about the draft. For the Rockets, I'm hoping someone antes up for the #3 pick and HOU is able to trade down to the 7-9 range to select Dalton Knecht. If not, I guess I'm fine with drafting Sheppard. Just hate spending a #3 pick on a little guy but they need shooting bad..

My wishlist for the Spurs draft tomorrow.

1.04: Sheppard, Castle, or Buzelis in that order.

1.08: Devin Carter, Dalton Knect.

I'm out on Risacher, Topic, and Sarr. Clingan does not seem like a fit alongside Wemby.

Won't hate it if we end up with Dillingham, Cody Williams, or Salaun. Jared McCain is a blip on my radar too.

And a firm NO to any deals with the Hawks.

Wow. What a trade.

Bridges to the Knicks for a LOT of picks.

Thanks for posting the trade. That is a minute I'll never get back.

From Woj: BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets have agreed in principle on a trade to send F Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via Bucks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-rounder, sources tell ESPN.

So KD trade now has Nets owning 9 first round picks. Got four from the Suns and now 5 from the Knicks. Plus they still have Cam Johnson.

lol what Jesus he’s not Durant

TON of picks - late round 1st rounders + Knicks don’t have much success drafting in the 1st rd anyway.

Hope they keep OG.

Nova Knicks !
You have no idea if those 2029 and 2031 picks will be late rounders. Unprotected. I get going for it but that’s insane for this guy. Is he even a top-30 player?
He is most certainly not, but he is one of the most scalable players in the league, so he's more valuable than a player a bit better than him. For instance, I think Sabonis is a much better player in a vacuum, but I would much rather have Bridges.

Yea I get for sure he’s a nice puzzle piece and does a lot of things that contribute towards winning but holy hell.

Interesting. Nets and Rockets pick swap. Looks like they're going after Durant:

According to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets are sending the Nets back their 2026 first-round pick in exchange for the Phoenix Suns' 2027 first-round pick. The Rockets also are acquiring a pick swap from the Nets, which allows them to swap their first-round pick for the Suns' first-round pick.

The motive of the deal is to make the Rockets buyers for Kevin Durant in a potential trade.

You’re right, but I do wonder about spending that much capital on a player that is not a tier 1 star. That said, if they keep OG, it is a pretty nasty rotation for thibs to run into the ground

I would have never made that trade, so I'm not defending it.

I wonder what BK could get for some of their other useful pieces like Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, and DFS. Evan Bogdanovic and Schroeder have some level of value.

The Wizards had to see what the Nets just received for Bridges and kicked themselves (more?) for not trading Bradley Beal when the league was hot and heavy for his services. Gotta strike when the iron is hot. Kudos to Brooklyn.
