2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (3 Viewers)

Texas just did not want this one huh

I love this for Ohio though. Day gets a 10 year extension. And everytime they bring up their National Title, I can mention they didn't beat Michigan.
Careful what you wish for… how long did it take Harbaugh to break through? And he had to cheat to do it.
Huh? I for real am rooting for the Buckeyes. I am here for anything original big 10.

Sounded like the typical ttun “I hope Ryan Day is there forever “ thing because of the H2H record.

How I feel watching tOSU.

Good to have (new) rivals.

Do I really have to root for Notre Dame? This playoff sucks.
Ask Michigan fans about to handle this dilemma.

They can root for ND but it won`t do much good. ND won`t be able to hang.

I thought Sark was the supreme play caller? Ball is on one yard line and he has the QB in a shotgun at the 5-6 yard line, then Ewers pitches it to the RB who catches it at the 8 going sideways?? That stupid call led to the strip sack TD. Put Manning in under center on first and goal and sneak it at least twice.

I have not watched much of Ewers until this playoff and came away unimpressed. Arm seems weak, not very mobile, I mean he is a good college QB in the right situation.

Howard is also very average but good because of the talent around him. Not that it matters but don`t see Ewers or Howard having much success if any at the next level.

I know everyone loves the backup, but I think they win that game with Manning under center. Not excited to play this team for 2-3 years with him.

Texas gave the defensive blue print on how to limit Smith and the offense that piled on Tennessee and Oregon. I’m sure Day and Kelly will adjust but Texas defense was great tonight!
Blueprint has been out there. Run the ball and bully them in the trenches. Keep the offense off the field.

Oh, and get Lou Holz out there and in Day's head.

If you are an Ohio State hater you better really be pulling for Texas tomorrow.

Texas is going to get throttled.
You think that Texas defense is just gonna lay down?

I don’t think so.

Tell me the dollar amount you'd like to wager and I'll commit to it, up to $500. Can hold it in escrow here.
I said Texas’s defense is not gonna lay down….I did not say Texas will win.

The issue with Texas is will their offense again leave their defense on the field too long.

OSU should win…..but if Texas shows up on offense it should be a competitive game.

I don’t feel strongly one way or the other….but I lean to this being closer than a throttling.

The spread is not enticing either. So I will pass on making a bet…..just too tough to call.

But you sound like you are backing the truck up and laying 6
@General Malaise hope you did not back that truck up……this game is going like I thought……one play can change it either way.

I sent a smaller wagon.

NEVER ANY DOUBT!

How long is his NIL deal? If he's any good can't he option early to the NFL after next year?

I guess. Would love that. Just like to think of the worst case, esp finally given how much money is in CFB now the pressure to jump ASAP is lower. And especially given how much UT can pay a guy.

First text I got last night was from an ex-coworker that’s a huge Michigan fan.

“Odd to say this as a Michigan fan, but with Texas or tOSU as the other options…Go Irish”

My reply : “You’re lucky we don’t work together anymore. I’d have framed that for your office”

Well I don’t mind that part either.

College football conference tribalism has always been one of the strangest things in all of sports but it seems way ramped up right now due to the way this postseason tournament has played out. I open my twitter app and its filled with people arguing about one conference being dominant and the other being a doormat. Its kind of like a little brother thing, where I can beat up my little brother but no one else better lay a finger on him. We have these viciously bitter, hateful rivalries within the conference but when it comes to the postseason the allegiances seem to shift in a very bizarre way.

Agreed. The person who thinks I'm supposed to root for Texas over tOSU because we are in the same conference is insane to me. So it blows my mind when so many fans seem to do exactly that.

I think fans (& coaches) do this to make their own teams look better. "See? We beat 6 teams in the best conference." Or "Yeah, we lost 7 games but we're playing in the nation's best league".

I don't think Auburn fans are really rooting for Alabama. They're just saying that stuff to prop up their own team's success (or failure).

There’s just no way I can root for OSU, I mean unless somehow they’re playing …… oh ####!

Does anybody outside of the SEC really do this, though? No other fan base chants the name of their conference. None.

I kind of get it if there is a direct benefit to your team, perceived or otherwise. I know some Duck fans who wanted tOSU v PSU in the championship just to be able to say “we beat both of these teams.” I’m not one of them, I don’t want anything good to happen to our chief rivals.

Yeah you'll catch me jumping off a bridge before i chant "S-E-C," even though we're in it now. I bet you can find my own posts on here of how dumb that was/is/will ever be LOL.

My rooting interests:
1. OU, because I went there

Big gap in how much I care

2. Illinois, because my entire family for five generations before me went there and life is better when my parents are in a good mood
3. Any regular season team OU plays against, because the more teams we beat win, the better we must be

Smaller gap in how much I care

4. Stanford, because I went there, even though my friends all got fired last March from the staff I was a part of
5. Anyone playing against Texas, if it won't affect our ranking too adversely

Solid list and reasoning there.

I would think we won't hear more whining about how the SEC got screwed in the playoffs selections.
I'll take the other side of that bet. Talking points have been distributed at SECSPN already.
I’m sure next week will be the narrative of ND being an independent and not having to share its money. SEC fanboys are rooting hard for Ohio State.
There should be a maximum that any individual team can get.

Why? ND gets nothing otherwise. Bad teams get just as much as the good ones in a conference after expenses.

There is. This year it's $20 million.

90% of this thread is people who claim they don't care about conference tribalism randomly yelling at no one about how overrated the SEC is every time an SEC team loses a football game.

My rooting interests:

#1 Michigan
#2 Whoever is playing Ohio St
#3 Bowling Green (alma mater)
#4 Whoever is playing Toledo (BG's rival)
#5 Whoever is playing Michigan St

That said, there are absolutely people who are to the B1G what honks are to the SEC. They don't understand why I root against Ohio St. Don't you want to beat us when both teams are good? No, I want you to get buried 6 feet under every Saturday.

Thank you. Insane to me that these honks can't see it.

What are the odds that Holtz can get in Day's head about the toughness thing? Doesn't seem all that difficult to do honestly. I wouldn't be surprised to see a different OSU team than we've seen this playoff.

Lhucks got sucked in but conference tribalism was rooted in Texas blowing up the SWC, then the XII (twice). Teams that were shuffled in and out of the fallout from that got a sense of superiority from being promoted or relegated.

Not seeing it. There were S-E-C chants when the Big XII was still intact and well before Texas and Oklahoma moved over. Never heard a "Big 12!" chant unless it was done sarcastically.

The most well regarded origin story was SWC teams taunting Arkansas for bailing on....Texas.

Might help to connect the dots regarding this thread to point out that the people dumping in the SEC are dumping on individual SEC stereotypes being brought to this thread by SEC team fans and the mocking chants are just that.
