2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (4 Viewers)

From twitter
SMU had 6(!!!!) turnovers, which led to:

A Duke punt

A Duke turnover on downs

END OF HALF

A Duke missed field goal

Another Duke punt

A Duke BLOCKED field goal (the kicker also missed an extra point earlier in the game)

This doesn't include the fact that SMU fumbled the ball 6 times, and yet only 3 became turnovers.

Only 1 other team in the last 20 years has won a football game with a -6 turnover differential (via the ACC Network), and I'm pretty sure Duke is the first team to not score from this many turnovers.

Buckeyes look awful! So disgusting to watch as a fan!

What's going on at OSU? Is it Day? Day was a good OC but does not look the part as HC. With all the 5 stars, the transfers and all the NIL money they spend OSU should be much better. 2 stud RBs and they can`t run the ball. Play calling by Kelly was suspect too.

And yes..I bet the Bucks to win.
is a 62-9 career record in 6 seasons bad? are college coaches expected to not lose any games?

It will be interesting if coaches get longer leashes considering 2 loss sec and big10 teams will be making the playoffs regularly. Perfection may only be called on in leagues outside of this group.

His record is good but at least half of those wins were coming out of the Urban era and players.

It seems like the further we get into the Day era it’s getting more questionable. His coaching hires have been suspect especially the offensive line coach and the defensive coordinator.

I am still on the Day Train but I’m getting more and more concerned.

Day is a targeting hit on Marvin Harrison that was not called from a national championship game against TCU that Georgia ended up crushing. If that had gone his way and the three SUSPECT losses against UM were not part of his nine losses, fans would be more understanding.

The awful offensive line is going to be our undoing this season and next year looks like a rebuild/reload year.

Talent level seems to be on par with what they consistently get....especially on offense. All kinds of first round picks. What I see is softness across the board. They've been manhandled multiple times since Day took over. For example, Michigan had no business beating them three times in a row with the talent disparity. It's John Cooper-esque if we're being honest.

High school rules question. Punt team punter sets up to do the rugby thing. Basic play is run wide, see if there is a gap to fake it. If not. Kick.

One time kid makes this decision at the last second. Kicks. Gets flattened. 15 yards.

Seems a loophole
There is some extra leeway given because the player may not kick it, but much less than the college rule.

dont look now but wisconsin got it handed to them in the fourth quarter and stunk it up take that to the bank bromigos

Cam Ward looking like a possible top 5 pick in the draft, depending on which teams are drafting. Escapability, accuracy with many arm angles, good passes under pressure.

Duke up 28-17 after being down 14-0. Revenge for Manny Diaz.

Duke scored 26 vs Elon, 26 vs NU in 2 overtimes, 26 vs CONN, 14 vs GT, 23 vs FSU. And will likely score 40+ vs a Guidry defense. Give credit to Maalik Murhpy and his receivers for making plays.

Miami taking it to 'em now. Imagine this ends up 48-28

Now Miami up 32 to 28. Cam Ward with some nice tight window throws, a nice run, and Jesse Palmer noting that Ward is going through progressions to open receivers. He looks NFL ready.

Even though I hope Stupor Mario loses in painful fashion in the end. And why don't fans pack that stadium? Pathetic showing for a top 10 team that once ruled college football. Embarrassing to see that many empty seats.

A touch throw by Ward to go along with tight window zingers, throws from different angles, good progression on pass plays, a few nice runs and scrambles. He has a very good oline and receivers, so if I were a scout I'd like to how he does vs the best defenses, perhaps in the playoffs. So far, so good for his draft status.

Xavier Restrepo just broke the UM records for receptions and yards on a 66-yard slant taken to the house. Irvin, Wayne, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Eddie Brown, Hester. I'm not sure Restrepo will have the same NFL career as those but he is projected to go about 4th round, a slot WR. His 40 time will be key for him.

Speaking of the draft, sophomore DT Rueben Bain is impossible to block, projected to go 10 in 2026 for those drafting defensive players in fantasy.

I'm assuming you never watched him once at Wazzou?

He's fun to watch. I don't know if this translates to the pros, but if the trend is "QBs with a TON of experience under their belts" having better success than those with minimal experience (looking at you Anthony Richardson) I could see him doing well.

But you said it - he's played very weak teams thus far. The knock on him historically is when he steps up in competition. He was humbled at times in the Pac12, so let's see what happens when the defenses he plays are better than ACC Kleenex.
