2024 Detroit Lions 1-0: Lions lock horns with Rams and come out on top. Waiting for comments from Kelly Stafford. (19 Viewers)

no matter how many times GM or Leroy explain it to me, I still have no idea what these numbers mean 🤣
It's ok, tying up your money for 5-6 months is not optimal strategy anyways per my betting expert friends. But for those that have an extra hundred in an account, the Lions winning it would turn it into 650 bucks then in your account.

When the numbers are plus, they tell you how much you win if you bet $100. So if you put $100 on the Lions to win the NFC championship, you win $550. The total payout would be $650....which is $550 in winnings and the return of your $100.

It is probably easiest to stop there because the confusing part is the minus bet. But....

The minus odds are different, it tells you how much you need to bet in order to win $100. So when the Lions are -400 to beat the lowly Packers, you would have to bet $400 just to win $100. So for your $400 bet, you would get $100 in winnings and the return of your $400 bet, for a payout of $500 in total.

Lions are pretty healthy ahead of Week 1 matchup with Rams.

Reserve safeties Ifeatu Melifonwu & Loren Strickland the only players not at practice today.

DJ Reader was out there rag dolling OL during the portion open to the media.

First injury report will be out Wed.

PFF NFC Season Preview show

Trevor Sikkema sees it as:
  1. DET 13-4
  2. GB 11-6 Wild Card
  3. CHI 10-7 Wild Card
  4. MIN 6-11
Said the two best divisions in the NFL are the North’s - AFC and NFC

This is the last of their 8 division preview shows. Both analysts on the show had the Lions going 13-4, #1 seed, and winning the Super Bowl.

Eric Mangini has the Lions winning the Super Bowl, stopping the three-peat.

Bill Simmons - FOH, what does he know about football - has Detroit beating Houston in New Orleans.

This is gonna get old real quick, ain't it?

KELLY STAFFORD has announced she (along with her daughters) will NOT be attending Week 1 of SNF to see her husband’s return to Ford Field in the LAR @ DET opener.

She'll be in Detroit the night before for her live podcast show with her partner Hank Winchester (of Click on Detroit/Local 4 "Help me Hank" fame.)

Oh forget it I cannot even pretend to care.

Two more days to real football....

So Reader practiced today and got to the QB a couple of times. Looked dominate. Campbell was watching him closely. I think Reader wants to play week one, but I think his role will be limited. This is a positive step. Iffy may miss multiple weeks though.

Lions' rookie Mahogany finding ways to contribute after lengthy battle with mono

Sep 03, 2024
Allen Park — The speculation can cease. In his first public comments since rejoining the Detroit Lions, rookie offensive lineman Christian Mahogany confirmed he missed the first few weeks of training camp -- and remains on the non-football illness list -- due to a case of mononucleosis.

“That's all it was,” Mahogany told the Detroit Football Network. “It was unfortunate. I just didn't want to pass it on to anybody here, so I stayed away for a little bit.”

Once he was medically cleared by doctors back home in New Jersey, Mahogany quickly rejoined the team. He’s spent the past few weeks building back his strength and conditioning. He remains on NFI, which means he'll be sidelined for at least the first four games of the regular season.

It’s been a frustrating experience for the sixth-round draft pick, but one he realizes is out of his control. And after tearing his ACL in 2022, he’s learned how to be patient through a situation like this one.

“I've had football taken away before, so it's not a new feeling,” he said. “It's unfortunate, but things happen, illnesses happen. The timing was unfortunate, but I'm excited to get back. I'm hungry. ...I don't have a timeline. I'm just doing what they tell me. That's how I approach things: I listen before I speak. It's hard to not be frustrated because I want to play, but it is what it is.”

The counter to Mahogany’s frustration is gratitude. He knows the Lions could have easily moved on. Late-round picks aren’t promised anything, and this team has Super Bowl aspirations, so the franchise’s decision to stick with him is appreciated. It’s only adding to his desire to reward their faith.

“It just shows how much they care,” Mahogany said. “For me, it feels more like a family here. They're helping me out and I'm going to give them everything I can when I get back.”

While he builds back his strength, Mahogany is finding other ways to contribute to the team. Earlier this week, left tackle Taylor Decker noted the rookie was offering insight on Los Angeles Rams’ first-year defensive linemen Jared Verse and Braden Fiske, who Mahogany matched up against last season while they were playing for Florida State and he was at Boston College.

Those two rivals played Monday night, with Mahogany’s school pulling off the upset in front of a national audience. He’s understandably pumped about the result, and once the team is back home and settled, he plans to reach out to his former linemates for their notes on Verse to aid Decker.

“I just like giving that insight when I'm not active right now,” Mahogany said. “It's probably good for earning the trust of the older guys, but it also helps the team.”

Away from the practice facility, Mahogany is trying to do good on a different front. He’s been working diligently toward establishing a scholarship fund to honor former high school teammate and University of Georgia defensive lineman Devin Wilcox, who tragically passed away in a car accident in early 2023, shortly after the National Championship game.

Mahogany has raised more than $10,000 through GoFundMe, and is working on tapping into his network at Boston College and in Detroit for what he intends to be an annual scholarship program in Wilcox’s honor.

“Having the people of Detroit, even though I've never played a game here, stand behind me, it means a lot,” Mahogany said. “I'm glad where we're at right now. I definitely want to get it up and running before next spring, before the next school year.”

Did he kiss the Fonz's girlfriend?

First Q of the day for Campbell was the possibility of DJ Reader suiting up. There’s a chance but this is his first week of full pads vs the 1s; he’s in a good place but still evaluating.

“Rams are a better team. The D line, even without Donald, they’re really good front, have developed their young guys. Stafford has everyone at his disposal, the guys they drafted - we liked them a lot, too. We think we’re better too, but this is a tough physical team.”

CD3, Arnold, Rakestraw, Jah, LaPorta - they’re are all good. Talked about the number of hamstring injuries & what they’ve been doing to combat that from reoccurring. Spoke about how much progression the young guys have made, especially Jamo, Gibbs & BB.

Was asked about the Applebee’s stuff, he usually turns stuff down but his wife & kids wanted him to try it. “Unfortunately that’s not the end of it (first 2), there’s more to come.”

One thing about the Branch move to S is they don’t want to get into the situation they had in the NFCCG; the 49ers personnel dictated who was on the field and they only had a Slot Corner out there 41% of the snaps. He’ll be more impactful as a box safety (but will still see snaps at SCB.)

The only real concern I have headed into the season is if Aaron Glenn can be a really good defensive coordinator. The players absolutely love him, but the results have been largely disappointing. Maybe he finally has the personal to run the defensive schemes he likes.

But last year we were not effective at sacking the QB and our number 1 corner gave up the most yards of any CB in the NFL. Was Holmes trying to force schemes we did not have the appropriate talent for? We cleaned out the secondary coaching staff and hopefully upgraded it. We have 4 new CBs who are more talented than any of our CBs last year. We made significant upgrades on the DL. Our LB and Safety groups are rock solid. I would be greatly disappointed if this group was not sniffing the top 10 for defenses. If the defense does not show improvement early on, it has to be put on Glenn.

Fifty-one years of history as a Lions fan has me worrying about jinxes and such, but ever since the Green Bay game in 2022 my motto has been "Eff that 'Same Ol' Lions' crap!" I believe in Campbell to have this team ready. Does that mean they'll make the Super Bowl? No idea; in addition to talent, it also takes some things breaking your way, which they didn't in the NFCCG. But I believe they CAN do it. The rest is in their hands, and I feel really good about that

Bad news for the Rams as they just placed their best CB Darious Williams on IR. He injured his hamstring about a month ago and will now miss the first 4 weeks.

Reader and Iffy both practiced today, at least in a limited capacity. My guess is Reader will be a game time decision and Iffy will probably be out/doubtful.

DE Marcus Davenport has only played in 63 out of 99 regular szn games.

However when healthy, Davenport has generated a career pressure rate of 15.7%.

To put that in perspective last szn when Aidan Hutchinson was 2nd in the league in pressures, his rate was 14.4%

That field in São Paulo was horrific.

Really sucks for GB and I hope Love can come back. Willis would be a disaster, Gudenkist has to do something if Love is out long term.

Hard to judge a game played under those conditions but a lot of sloppy play on both sides. As good as Philly looked on offense with Barkley, the new center and Hurts definitely need work on their exchange. On defense I thought both teams were sub-par with receivers running free. All said though I would expect both to be playoff teams if Love isn't out too long.

Glad the "tush-push" imploded at the end. Of course I have Barkley.

Field was bad, big crowd but seemed quiet on Peacock broadcast. Going to Brazil to play a regular season game makes no sense for the players or the team.

Nobody talking about their C got hurt on the same play. What a joke of a venue.

The Lions signed DL Chris Smith for their 53rd man and promoted Peko and Kennedy to active roster.

I am sure they are most confident with Kennedy's grasp of the playbook, and I would assume Reader is either not suiting up or may only get a handful of plays.

How deflating does that have to be if you're Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay?

You're handling this game in a hostile environment, just owning them.

Then Dan Campbell just decided "You know what? Forget this crap. Ball down their throat. Our guys are gonna beat up your guys, game over."

  • David Montgomery: 17 carries, 91 yards, (5.4 YPC) TD
  • Jameson Williams: 6 touches, 134 yards, TD
  • Jah: 15 touches 74 yards TD
  • Aidan Hutchinson: 5 tackles, 1 sacks, 4 QB hits
  • Anzalone 13 tackles
  • Jake Bates 2/2 FG 2/2 XP

    and Mr Jack Fox

This was a very difficult game to watch. Did not like some of the play calls, Goff was not sharp, Stafford picking the D apart without a major weapon and half his o-line hurt. Nothing seemed to be working. It was the Rams game for the taking. A game the Lions used to always lose..but they didn`t

Other than a painful penalty Hutch had a great game and then they get back to pounding the rock in OT for the win.

One thing I noticed is Lion players slipping over and over like they were playing in San Paulo.

Arnold made some rookie mistakes, but a couple good plays.

Davis was pretty good.

Secondary missed two INTs.

Wasn't Branch's best day.

The entire DL was very good the first half and then again late in the 4th quater.

Was Jack Campbell even playing. Anzalone was everywhere.

I still think we need Houston even for his one trick.

have to give the Rams some credit - they were gassed in OT (back to back drives) but their D has a good front

they really clogged the middle with safeties and had their LB low dropping, took away Goff's bread n butter (in breaking routes to #14 & #87)

I am in no way disappointed with winning ugly, good teams do that, you just have to keep fighting through adversity

Fox nailed one on the 2 that got pushed into the end zone.

Fox is headed back to the pro-bowl if he keeps kicking like that.
