2024 Philadelphia Eagles - Happy 7th birthday to our most precious baby. (73 Viewers)

THE REFS
A couple gripes:

The Ravens entered this game as the NFL’s most penalized team. And yet somehow they managed to avoid committing any non-pre-snap penalties until the fourth quarter. Hm!
The Ravens entered this game with the NFL’s most holding penalties. And yet their offensive line apparently didn’t hold once all game long. Sure.
All told, the Eagles were penalized eight times for 55 yards while the Ravens were penalized four times for 20 yards.
The replays of some of the non calls on the holds are beyond egregious.

The Eagles are 10-2 or better for a 3rd straight season for the first time in franchise history

Only 7 other coaches have done that 3 straight years

Sean Payton
Bill Belichick
Tony Dungy
Mike Shanahan
Mike Ditka
John Madden
Curly Lambeau

The Ravens, Commanders, and Bengals are all top 4 in the #NFL in scoring.

The #Eagles held all 3 teams to under 20 points.

Lamar Jackson when targeting Quinyon Mitchell in coverage as the primary defender

2-of-5, 4 yards, 47.9 rating

Jalen Carter was doubled teamed on 58.1% of his pass rush attempts in this game. Milton Williams capitalized, notching 5 pressures from 1-on-1 matchups. He leads all defensive tackles this season with a 14.8% pressure rate.

In the Eagles last 3 games:
1st 2 drives: forced 1 punt in 6 drives and surrendered 24 total points

The rest of the game: 12 punts (and 2 turnover on downs ) on 24 drives and surrendered 33 total points (and 21 of them were TDs under 2 minutes left in a multi-score game

The Eagles just played the best passing offense (by DVOA) since the 07 Patriots while missing 2 defensive backs and held them to 12 points (excluding garbage time). Incredible.

Eagles DT Jordan Davis played 24 defensive snaps in Baltimore. 13 of those snaps were designed runs by the Ravens.

Baltimore gained just 39 yards on those 13 running plays (3.0 yards per carry) when Davis was on the field.

10-win seasons for the Eagles since 2000, including playoffs:

1 - 2000
2 - 2001
3 - 2002
4 - 2003
5 - 2004
6 - 2006
7 - 2008
8 - 2009
9 - 2010
10 - 2013
11 - 2014
12 - 2017
13 - 2018
14 - 2022
15 - 2023
16 - 2024

16 of the last 25 seasons.

On the thread title, never forget Dawk stopping the Bus in open field.

I still can't figure out how our d-line doesn't draw any holding penalties.
If you rewatch that game chances are you can see 20 of them and most are blatant.

Officials in general have been just awful this year in like every game I’ve watched.
it feels like refs have a clear bias towards one side in each game. prime time games i assume will feature "better" refs and even those are awful most of the time. i'm happy that eagles finally landed on the "good" side for a change, felt like we were getting the Raiders treatment in a couple of games this year.

Super Bowl or bust.
I’ll wait to see how the team is health wise heading into the playoffs.

Really depends on our path as well. Do we have home field? Makes a giant difference. Although i think we can go into detroit and steal their soul
Eh. After 2017, If I see a team playing THIS great, on top of that with a top tier defense. At this point, for me, not getting to the Super Bowl is a HUGE letdown. We have the 2 seed all but locked up. Just need the Lions to slip up a couple times.

*IF* the Lions somehow run the table and finish 16-1 or even 15-2 and get the 1 seed, they'd be the favorites...by a lot b/c of who they would beat (Gauntlet?) over the next 5 weeks to get there.

But the Lions do not scare me. We just shut down the odds on favorite MVP QB, going for his 3rd and back to back, the team was the best offense in the league as far as yards are concerned and were a top scoring team as well.

12 offensive points, save for a garbage time touchdown that meant nothing.

And if/when the Lions slip out of the 1 seed, I don't see them winning 2 straight road playoff games to get the privilege to come to Philadelphia just to be treated like Vikings fans.

Yep. This isn’t even specific to the Eagles either. Every game I watch it seems to be one sided and extremely poor. They have direct access to NY and quick reviews but choose to avoid the obvious. It’s kind of crazy.

I don’t even think it’s one sided. I think it’s just atrocious all the way through. The Cincy/Pittsburgh game yesterday was brutal and there were awful bad calls against both teams. If you’re saying that it’s one sided, that to me implies that the games are somewhat rigged. I don’t believe that’s the case.

agree with all you said and i don't believe it's rigged. and the perception that it's one sided is obvious human psychology and tv angle driven, i'm conscious of it. as you said, it's awful both directions, but i don't mind when it's in my favor. :D

NFL really wanted a Ravens win.

On a side note, I have to say it’s brutal living in Philly area in a year when the Steelers play the Eagles (especially when the Eagles are the better team). Inevitably I end up having to watch the game surrounded by Eagles fans, which is an absolute dreadful experience. This year I’m likely locking myself in the basement in solitude.

Yeah this isn’t the NNA where you clearly see they favor one side over the other. For whatever reason, officiating this year has been blantantly bad

Are you in Philly or an outlying burb? I admit that I am a stereotypically obnoxious Eagles fan when out at the bars. We made the local news in 2022/23 when they stomped the Gints in the divisional round. I imagine it must be dreadful to be next to us if you're rooting for the other team.

I’m in the suburbs north of Philly. Actually this year my 10 year old son is inviting 5-6 of his 5th grade friends over to watch the game. Most are Eagles fans but I’ve instructed him to identify 1-2 Steelers/neutral fan friends to support him. I think one kid is a Steelers fan and one might be a Giants fan lol.

BTW - Steelers fans in Pittsburgh are no different. They’re mostly yinzer animals.

Goedert out with a knee injury. Might go on IR. Thumbs down
this would be very bad. We don't have enough viable options in the passing game as it is
Is what it is. Dude missed 3-6 games every year. And when he is out there, we don't give him enough options as is. But we are really going to miss his blocking prowess.

Calcaterra really has stepped up this year though as a pass catcher, so a least we have someone that can sort of fill in and get that YAC.

But he is like *many* levels below Goedert on the blocking side of things.

Goedert has low-key been a borderline bust, but for sure a disappointment that never reached his assumed potential as a pass-catcher when looking at his career.

He's about to turn 30 in a couple weeks and will go into his 8th year in the league in 2025 having played every game in season a only once (2018, his rookie year), missing an average of 3 games to injury each season since, and only averaging 49 catches/575 yards/3.5 TDs per season.

Even if he never missed a game with injury, his full-season projections are still just 64/745/4, which is below average for a "stud" TE1.

His playoff production has been better: 74/737/6 full-season projections, more akin to what you would expect from a TE1.

Zach Ertz was only 28 when we drafted Goedert and we dumped Ertz when he was 31. Goedert is already 30 with no replacement in sight. Colston Loveland and Tyler Warren are being mocked late 1st, early 2nd. Might be a couple guys to keep your eye on.

He’s been serviceable and got better as a blocker. The Eagles drafted him when Ertz was close to what Dallas is now. I would’ve thought they have had drafted a guy this year but maybe they are waiting for this draft. I really liked Ben Sinnot and Cade Stover from this draft and had Brock Bowers fell to them they’d have had a very hard time trying to talk themselves out of drafting him.

TE is a weird nfl position. There’s like a select few who are elite. Kelce Andrews and Sam Laporta is getting there. Then the TE falls off by a good margin. Still serviceable to good starters but not the elite Tony Gonzalez/Gronk types mismatches. Goedert probably falls into that mid 2nd tier group.

Mason Taylor Jason Taylor’s son 3rd round. Really big with a good catch radius

The dejean hit was nice but nowhere near the crumpler or bush hits imo
I remember me and my room mates had a party at my house for that Saints game. When Sheldon laid that hit on Reggie, we all thought the game was over before it started. Maybe the hardest hit I've ever seen live.

Would LOVE to see Tyler Warren in Philly. Kid is a swiss army knife, kind of like a certain NO TE

I'd be shocked if he is on the team next year. They just don't use him the way they should-can't blame them with this wr corps, just saying. There are weeks that go by where he is invisible in the passing game.

Nowhere? Maybe if you're only measuring them with a Richter scale.

But taken as a whole, it's instantly a Top 10 hit in Eagles history. It goes right into every montage of big Eagles plays that will get fans fired up. But then there's the situational aspects: On the road, 7 minutes left on 3rd down against SB contender Baltimore and MVP candidate Lamar Jackson as they are moving toward midfield, a rookie in the open field, on a beast of a player notoriously tough to bring down that had 3 inches on him and outweighed him by 50 pounds who had made the catch cleanly and already was moving forward and gained 3 yards gets stopped dead and lifted up and thrown to the ground to force a 4th and long that the Ravens had to go for that failed and essentially put the game away.

Here's the prior Top 5, considering both the hit and the impact to the game/season. If we somehow eek out the 1-seed and/or win the SB this year, I think the DeJean hit moves into #5:

1) Chuck Bednarik on Frank Gifford - Giants driving with under 2 minutes left, trailing by a TD, a legal at-the-time clothesline shoulder hit by 2-way Concrete Charlie causes a fumble, Eagles recover to secure the win and it knocked Gifford unconscious and caused him to miss the next 2 seasons. The Eagles moved to 7-1, finished 10-2, and won the NFL Championship.

2) Dawkins on Alge Crumpler - Although Crumpler held on for a 31-yard gain and ATL scored a TD on the drive, it set the tone for an eventual Eagles win (Crumpler had 0 catches the rest of the game), and finally got the Andy Reid Eagles over the NFCCG hump and into the SB.

3) Keith Byars on Pepper Johnson - The eventual SB champ NYG came to The Vet riding a 13-game regular season wining streak and a 10-0 record to start the 1990 season and left with their first loss. Tied 7-7 in the 2nd quarter, Byars' leveled Johnson on a Randall scramble that sprung him for a big gain and an eventual QB sneak 1-yd score for a lead the Eagles would hold the rest of the way, ending 31-13.

4) Sheldon Brown on Reggie Bush - Looks good on film, but it was two guys of equal weight with the slightly stockier Brown laying out the 2-inches taller and slender Bush who was focusing more on trying to bring in the catch that Brees threw behind him and exposed him to the hit. The Saints won the game and knocked us out of the playoffs.

5) Dawkins on Jerome Bettis - Outweighed by 50 pounds, Dawkins drops Bettis after a gain of 2 yards early in the 3rd quarter. Didn't really impact this regular season game (a sack for a 9 yard loss on the next play forced a Steelers punt), and Eagles went on to win in OT.

As far as "OH MY GOD!" impact just from the hit itself, I would rank the above: 4, 2, 1, 3, 5.

That one was crazy. There was one I believe in Eli's rookie year where he was kind of blindly scrambling around the pocket and decided to go the other way right as Jerome McDougal was bearing down on him. I think his helmet may have came off a little. This one is up there for me too.

Yeah, but he probably has two of the biggest catches this season. That one in New Orleans and on Sunday that 3rd and 7 catch.

He was bad at drafting (until he wasn’t).
