2024 Philadelphia Eagles - First one was for the fans. This one was for the team. Next one is for the legacy. (9 Viewers)

I'm not looking to troll any of the Kenny Pickett fans. In the past I've been trying to bring eyes on his lack of TDs and the fact that he was overrated. Fortunately for the Eagle's he's a backup and not a starter. But as a backup even these numbers aren't good.

By the way I love the thread title. I just hope Tanner keeps progressing well.

Is that why you posted a tweet from over a year ago?

Good point I'll add in this year.

Does any of that change that he looked decent as a back up when called upon? You have a very strange axe to grind with him.
I just think that Tanner is better QB

He’s just upset that maybe it was the coaching in Pitt and not KP

I’m glad they’re resting him. Would’ve loved the record for Saquon- he is a total class act. Would’ve loved the record for the Oline and Stout, too.

But this team has a window this year: Defense playing lights out and exceeding expectations, Other too teams dealing with serious injury problems, and we are mostly healthy.

Next year, we are gonna lose some major pieces on D. Slay will probably retire, Zach Baun could command a huge payday, Milton Williams will likely be gone.

Strike while the iron is hot and maximize the window for a Lombardi this year. The early bye was a HUGE boon for this team. But, it’s been 12 weeks of straight football with no breaks. Rest them up and get ready to roll in the playoffs.

Hurts needs a couple of drives. Don't like key players taking two weeks off. Leave most of the starters in (not necessarily Barkley) for two or three drives.

I’m not sure how I feel about that. He’s gonna practice and Mahomes will have had more time off (23 days) so I don’t think it’s an issue

I ok with Barkley sitting this week. The season record is kinda muddy now with longer seasons. However, I do think Barkley is the MVP even though he won't break Dickersons record. We all know he would if he played.

Barkley has a shot at Terrell Davis's record that includes playoffs (2,476). This record IMO would be much, much better to have.

Kudos to Nick, the coaching staff and all the players for correctly realizing what the move here for the entire team needs to be. There are a ton of young guys on this team that could use this playing time, as well as the FO for dangling any potential guys in offseason trades. Playing anyone of note in a game like this to chase a record would be a super risky decision. Glad everyone is on board with it and focusing on getting healthy and getting ready for either GB or WAS.

Lets go!

How does the #1 rated T according to PFF not make the Pro Bowl?

I personally don't see the difference. Lions and Vikings are both in the playoffs and one of them will be playing next week in the first round. By the same logic they should rest all their starters to avoid injury and guarantee a bye week for their players. There's no guarantee their team gets a bye and severely puts themselves at a disadvantage if they play.

I usually don't get superstitious but this not playing the game for the record feels like bad Karma.

Like this bad karma from a year ago?
Last year was a lost cause from the Niners game on. We lose to TB even with AJ last year. Something was just wrong with the team. Namely the coordinators.
The overall sentiment is that you don’t want anyone injured in a meaningless game. If I were to see that same image this Sunday I’d be behind pissed.

I’d want home field advantage throughout and the week off

And one of the teams will get neither. If they sit their players that will guarantee one week of rest. It's the same mentality.

The rest isn't nearly as important as the HFA. That's really what those teams are playing for.

But one of them won't get it. They could get hurt and ruin their chances at the super bowl. They should just rest and play for next week.

I think its worth the risk for home field

I think it's worth the risk for all time rushing record. Neither one negates or guarantees the super bowl.

That’s a hard comparison to draw IMO. The rushing record is risking the health of the team and you still may not get it. If you’re the Giants that’s all your focus will be.

Winning home field and still getting a bye is doable and helps the team.

How does getting the rushing record help the team? You are assuming he gets it as well. What if he played the whole game and didnt get it?

Im looking at it through a lens of the football gods. They gave Saquon this opportunity and the Eagles are taking it away because they are scared something will happen that didn't happen in the previous 16 games. This has clearly bummed out Saquon and some of the Olinemen.

It's tempting fate and I hope it doesn't bite us in the ***.

Because its a name recognition/popularity contest. Inverse reason that Jason Peters made the Pro bowl every single year, even when he was not the best tackle on the team.

But Cam Jurgens made the Pro Bowl, he doesn't have name recognition.

I mean, it doesn't help them from a standings view, but I've listened to a ton of radio hits, interviews, beat writers etc. This team wants to go for the record. The O lineman have publicly said they want to go for the record. AJ and Davonta have said the same thing. It means something to them. Its an intangible thing, but when a team feels united it 100% helps them.

Remember 2017. They were written off as dead after Carson went out. They could have said, "yeah, what are you going to do. We lost our starting QB. Maybe next year". But that's not what they did. They went full on dog mask and "no one likes us we don't care". This is different because its not adversity, but accomplishment, however, the point still remains this would have been a galvanizing moment for the team. I'm honestly shocked that they are playing it scared. That's not how these guys play their game and it shouldn't be now.

Oh, and if Nick said to the team this week that we HAVE to get Saquon 101 yards by halftime, It would be done by the second possession.

Well . . . no reason after hindsight, but not going into the game. That's like saying, why should Terrell Owens have risked further injury to his leg when the Eagles played in the 2004 SB, they didn't win. Answer: he didn't know they were going to lose before the risk was taken.

Historically, about 50% of #1 seeds make the Super Bowl. Lets give the Eagles (#2) a 30% chance. I think the loser of DET/MIN is still the 3rd best team in the NFC, so let's say they'd have a 10% chance. The other three teams can split the remaining 10%. (I'm not a gambler, so feel free to make these numbers more realistic if need-be.)

So the difference in the #1 seed vs. #5 seed is a 400% increase in making the Super Bowl. Resting players may be worth 10%, at most. Worth it for the Eagles because it's basically "free", they have nothing else to gain or lose. Clearly a different story for the DET/MIN winner.

If you’re the Giants what would you do?

There’s zero chance he gets that on me if I’m the HC. The WR’s could run uncovered and I’ll sit with 10 in the box all day.

By all accounts, Saquon is a great dude and teammate. Which former teammate is going to want to be the one responsible for breaking Saquon's leg, or get themselves hurt in a meaningless game?
I think it's arm-tackles all day and hope he goes down. If not, GG bud, glad you got out of this steaming pile of a team and did something special.

That team is on Cabo time. And its not like they did much when it matters-they're giving up 145 ypg average.
