2024 Philadelphia Eagles - Prime Time Kirk Cousins. We like that! (12 Viewers)

They should scratch the tush push. Did not look great anytime they tried it last night. Just do thr traditional ssneak or run the ball

Word on the street is Damon is the guy to ask about where to find the best cheesesteak! We're staying near Wells Fargo arena this weekend.

For all of you really, we'd love some recs on things nearby. Like where to watch the games on Sunday. Oh, and I guess dinner too (with SNF). Thanks and good luck this year.
You’ll be 15 mins away from Santucci’s Pizza on 10th St. They have decent cheesesteaks, but the pizza is really, really, really good. Definitely worth a trip for a lunch or a casual dinner.

But, if you’re dead set on going cheesesteaks, John’s Roast Pork is about 10 minutes away. Consistently in the top tier of cheesesteaks, but get a roast pork with broccoli rabe and cooper sharp to taste/share. One of the best sammiches. ever.
I concur with all of this.
Made it. Ended up at the Doubletree on 237 South Broad.

Ready for suggestions, Damon, thanks. And congrats on the Eagles!

And 3 holding penalties that weren’t called
I only saw one that could have been called but he was already in really good position to defend the play.
He’s a rookie, and he will make mistakes, but he looks good. Another player who falls to the Eagles who should have gone 5-10 slots higher.
Well the Nolan Smith pick isn't looking so good so far.

Give him time, last night was an impossible test for pash rushers, just no footing to do anything. I'm waiting until they are home next week to start making judgments about this team.

Give us a damn Philly Cheesesteak or pizza joint up in here guys. Come on! If Damon won't, someone help a brother out. Isn't that what this city is all about, brotherly love???

Nice. There’s a lux apartment building I designed across the street from there with a very good steakhouse, Steak 48. And of course lots of good options down walnut on Rittenhouse square. Have fun!

If it’s cheesesteaks you want I’d say go down broad to South Street, take a left and walk until you get to Jim’s on the corner of South and Fourth. They had a fire a couple years ago but reopened. You’ll dig it.
Also Lorenzo’s pizza is there. You can get slice that is the size of a mini cooper.

Eagles LBs last night in coverage

Nakobe Dean:
- 28 coverage snaps
- 1 reception allowed (4 targets)
- 29 yards
- 57.3 passer rating allowed
- -59.1 CROE (!!)
- -0.7 cov EPA

Zack Baun:
- 24 coverage snaps
- 3 receptions allowed (5 targets)
- 11 yards
- 64.6 passer rating allowed
- -9.3 CROE
- -5.6 cov EPA (best on team)

The Eagles were 0-4 in games last year where they had a -2 turnover differential or greater.

1-0 so far this year. 34 points too.

This team is going to be a tough out. Kellen Moore's offense is exactly what this team needed.

The Era of Q is upon us also. Eagles got their own version of Sauce. 3 PBU's in your first NFL game is some insane stuff.

depends on the pizza you like. Pizza Jawn is pretty good, Lorenzo's or Angelo's.

Cheese steak same idea. If drunk and after 2 a.m. Pats and Genos hit the spot wonderfully. If sober, there are a ton. Jim's or Delassandro's for the popular spots. I have a nice spot in my heart for Barry's when they re-open soon. Plenty more though too

Heard a good stat yesterday, that they went motion like 65% of the time. the other 35% of plays Jale was like 5-13 for 60 yards and 2 INTs. the motion plays were all the rest

Late to the party, but hopefully helpful to future folks who visit the city for a game, or whatever.

I've done plenty of 'homework' over the years, and this remains my pizza go-to in the general Philadelphia area:

https://tacconellispizzeria.com/index.html . Apologies that I got around to this late in the discussion; they are closed Mondays & Tuesdays.

Having literally eaten hundreds, I think cheesesteaks in general are over-rated, and that ounce-for-ounce, you can get a better roast pork sandwich or italian hoagie in Philadelphia, HOWEVER...

by now, I think most food-savvy folks know that the wholePat's/Geno's thing has jumped the shark, and both of those places are more for uninformed tourists, rather than for folks looking for a remarkable cheesesteak experience who, IMHO, ought to head to the northwest Philly suburb of Roxborough and decide which of:

Chubby's https://www.chubbyssteaks.com/ or Dalessandro's https://dalessandros.com/

they prefer...but only eat half of each one, because once you've decided on a winner, head over to Barry's https://www.barrys-steaks.com/ , and see if this little David has what it takes to knock off one of those Goliath's.

Now, for one hell of a 'two-for' , you can get one of the best Roast Pork Sandwiches, as well as a 1st-tier cheesesteak, both at John's Roast Pork https://johnsroastpork.com/

and at Campo's https://camposdeli.com/ ...

...an aside on bread - the iconic Amoroso's is what everyone hears about when it comes to Philly-area sandos, but there are several outstanding bakeries in the greater Philly area that make sandwich rolls as good or better than the big A...Carangi's gets a lot of press also, but my personal favorite is Sarcone's, and at their bakery on 9th Street, a lot of people don't know they make a hell of a hoagie (or at least they used to - I haven't been there in a while, and their website doesn't say anything about it, and they aren't open today), but they make lots of other good things that make it worth a visit: https://www.sarconesbakery.com/ . One of my most highly recommended iconic Philadelphia food experiences is getting a fresh-baked loaf of crusty Italian bread at Sarcone's and heading straight over to DiBruno Brothers , and using pieces of said bread as a platform to taste your way through the best selection of artisanal and farmstead cheeses from DC to Manhattan, hands-down (any cheese shop worth a damn will taste you on as many cheeses as you're interested in trying - just don't be an *** and not buy anything before leaving the store). DiBruno's on 9th Street is a Temple of (real) Cheese. There are a million cool things besides cheese to explore and buy at DiBruno's on 9th St.

My 1st-ever Philadelphia iconic sandwich experience was one street over (10th), just off the Italian Market District. Early 2000's. A little 'luncheonette' - Frank's Lunch/Shank & Evelyn's Roast Beef https://www.hollyeats.com/shankevelyns/ . Sadly, they closed and moved around 2009, and the new location https://www.eatatshanks.com/ just isn't the same, but I can't write about this stuff without evoking that memory and commemorating it here.

Roast beef is another well-made sandwich meat treated with reverance in Philadelphia, and although you can't get the one I had at Shank's some 20-odd years ago, there are plenty of other places to get an outstanding Roast Beef Sandwich, like this:

https://www.nicksroastbeef.com/philadelphia.html ... as good a place to set a standard for future research, as any.

There are tons of places to get a killer hoagie, but I'm going to suggest starting at two better-known places, where you can not only get a top-shelf hoagie, but, in the case of
Angelo's https://angelospizzeriasouthphiladelphia.com/ , you can get a great many well-made things.

https://www.paesanosphilly.com/ Philly-area Chef Peter McAndrews isn't necessarily a mentor, or peer of mine, but he's a Chef I have an immense amount of respect for. Paesano's was originally a hole-in-the-wall in Fishtown, but has grown up over the years.

This is the best sandwich shop I've experienced recently: https://www.instagram.com/farinadivita/ ... they take their craft seriously, and absolutely crush it.

These are just some recs of mine, and not my entire list, and no doubt there are Phillyguys who have their own favorites and might/might not like mine.

Well, that's a lot of typing, and a lot of links. Hope they all work, and anyone interested gets themselves ahold of some solid pizza and sandwiches when in Philly.
There's also a decent roast beef sandwich to be found across Philadelphia. Nick's Original is a good place to start: https://www.nicksroastbeef.com/

ETA - if this post is better off being moved to the FFA, that's OK by me.

Great list. Every time I visit Philly I hit up a different place that I find on some "top 5 cheesesteaks in philly" list. Last year it was Dalessandro's which was a bit out of the way if you're staying in the heart of the city. Ran into Mailata there which was awesome, and the steaks were great... but I still have a hard time finding one I like more than Jim's. I know it's one of the busy/well known ones that no one likes to pick for their fave, but it's just so damn good.

Tacconellis is around the corner from my house, I think it's overrated, way too thin and no crust. I prefer Joseph Pizza (https://www.josephspizzaparlor.com/) it's in Fox Chase so it's a bit of drive.

2024 Eagles Regular Season Prediction Contest is back, with a plethora of Eagles swag as the top prize!

Same rules as previous seasons:
  • Using the format below (and my official entry) as a template, indicate these 3 things about the Eagles 2024 season: overall record, total points scored, and the outcome of each game: W/L/T (make sure your Wins and Losses match up with your overall record!)
  • Number of correct W/L outcome predictions by game will be the first tie-breaker if multiple entries have the correct overall record, and total points (closest, over or under) will be the second tie-breaker, if needed.
  • Entries need to be posted in this thread by 8pm EST on Friday, September 6th. Open to all FBGs, even Giants fans that were rooting for us to catch a case from the NFL for tampering when Saquon high-tailed it out of MetLife faster than a teamster spending his paycheck at the Bada Bing!
Good luck!

Is there an official list available of entrants? Or is this something you track at home but don't post about till the end of the season? Apologies, I haven't participated in past years and can't recall if I saw any posts on how this was handled in the past.

Can't really 'track' it as the winner is simply overall record at the end of the year (followed by the tie breakers after that).

Once the season is over, he will look at all the unedited posts to see who got our record right.

Probably only about 15 entries, and can all be on pages 50-52 I'm assuming.

Is there anything significant to the Sirianni/Hurts relationship issues narrative? I've seen some smoke here and there to varying degrees of severity about issues between Hurts/Sirianni and Hurts/locker room. Would love to know if it carries any real weight, or just typical early-August BS.

Also, @Terpman22, is Bleacher Report considered to be much of a reliable source? Serious question, and I respect your opinion. I've never put much time into reading stuff from there, but recently a football buddy of mine is referencing it a lot lately, and as I'm vetting it, it seems, on it's face, not to be all that concerned about oversight of it's content creators, and contains a lot of unsubstantiated rumor and sensationalism.

Thanks!
I’ve been away the last month dealing with personal stuff (family deaths and GFs aunt fiancée past away 2 of these were barely 2 days apart) so I didn’t see signicabt portion of preseason outside of 2nd half of game 2. I’ll try to reply where I can but not every post just a few I wanted to comment but didn’t have time to post

I’ll start with this. The recent article pertaining to what you are asking a new addition was that Brian Johnson wanted to work with Shane Steichen (our former OC) scheme and build off of that and adapt his own ideas. Nick siriani overrode that idea and didn’t go well with hurts. Bj could’ve been more assertive but the offense was fully on Nick last year. Speaking to a few people in the know and some UF people who kept in contact many around the league felt BJ got a short stick and became a scape goat for nicks screw ups.

Kellen Moore was brought in but it was an intentional hire as speaking to a few people if Nick continues to struggle Kellen Moore is the replacement of the Eagles like what they see. Remember early in the offseason it was reported Nick was keeping his job but the team wasn’t feeling replacements. Also Nick seemed willing to adapt. Nick is also more of a playful not being serious guy and hurts bad Nick mr serious Saban as his coach so that could play into it. Is the relationship ruined like McCarthy/rodgers a few yrs ago? Not even close. Was there some people in the org and players who felt Burts could’ve been more vocal leader etc and stopped with the weird quotes? Yes and it seems he’s stopped them or they are few and far now. It’s something to look and keep in mind as a season progresses but the eagles can’t play like they did Friday night and expect wins every week. Nicks seat this year is hotter then many think. If the team struggles but reaches the playoffs and doesn’t perform well he’s gone. If the team plays better and falls short in the playoffs could go either way depending on how well Kellen Moore does or keep an eye on a guy in Det named Ben Johnson.

This isn’t a do or die right now but I could see if the Eagles struggle early and don’t win I can see them firing Nick mid season if problems from last year fester.

Happy, @Harry Frogfish ?
Might not be as good as Damon, but it’s a great freaking list

Saquon had 66% of his rushes against a light box. With all the receiving threats, teams can’t stack the box as often as he probably saw with NYG.

Eagles just traded for WR Jahan Dotson
I’m not opposed to this move. It was an overpay as it was within the division but it was a guy rumored to be a cut at end of cap. If we were looking for a #3 I was surprised they didn’t go juju as they had interest in him when he first became an FA. My thinking is the Eagles wanted a younger player and did like Dotson. From someone I spoke to with a little knowledge it seems like he was going to be cut and wouldn’t make it to Eagles claim in waivers so traded for him. He was over drafted by about a round and a half so good news is we have him for 3 yrs thanks to 1st round 5th year opt but it’s only 2 if they don’t pick it up.

Washington fans were hit or miss on Dotson a customer of mine complained about him constantly. A few tidbits. Washington fans ragged on the guy for being a NE cowboys fan growing up. This isn’t like the Barkley signing where he’s coming home to play for his favorite team. Dotson had some spectacular catches in college and bailed out his QBs poor throws and Franklins poor play calling but he’s always had issues with routine catches. Had a few missed opportunities in Was. He’s a really good route runner with speed but he doesn’t have get by you speed. He’s smaller and will get abused by bigger physical corners and press coverage. He also butted heads with the prior coaching staff and new staff. Some blame his performance on not right usage or bad QB play but I’d argue Howell was the best qb he’s played with college or pro

Hes young and inexpensive contract wise but cost a few draft picks I’d have put elsewhere like Back up TE and LB or Safety

I don’t mind the game in Brazil like some but I think a lot of people are just listening to media agendas. Sao poalo had less homicides in 23 then Philly did by like double. The no green is purely a soccer thing as there’s a supporters section for fans behind the goals. The union have one where the sons of Ben sit and they have a no red rule any Phillies red either as that is the the colors of their rival clubs in NY and DC.

Staying in sao paolo as long as you stay in the tourist area you are fine. I had a friend who took his dad for his birthday and they had a great time. There’s terrible places in Brazil sure but it’s like any country. Heck there’s numerous US cities that are on other countries high risk including Philly. Yeah high profile people are more at risk but if you act like an idiot you’ll be in danger. Just be respectful and don’t draw attention to yourself. If AJ brown and others don’t want their families there that’s on them and their decision. These games are a business trip and really no time for family on them anyway. It seemed like everyone had fun and a lot of players changed their attitude on the city and Brazil after being there. They still disagree playing a regular season there and we can all agree on that but the city is no more dangerous then Philly or chicago or LA or Camden. I have numerious friends soccer wise from around the world and more are scared of coming to the US then going to Mexico or South America do to political climate and our infatuation with with violience

Whelp, missed this, damn it. But did find some good Philly Cheese Steak and had a very nice time in Philly. Actually ran into / met Mike McCready outside that Rittenhouse Park area. We were at that popular restaurant or cafe there, which was good and he was just strolling by, solo. Such a nice guy.

I like the people in Philly.

We stayed at the Double Tree and I had to leave early so I was up late packing some **** and damned if there wasn't a F'ing mouse running across the floor. I just shook my head and kept packing. Then I see the thing run back across the floor to get out of the room. Thing ran to the door and right underneath it. I may call them.

Let’s get to the game. Hate blaming things like turf but football players weren’t made to play on soccer pitch. The pass rush is concerning and despite a few good spots on defense like Baun and Mitchell the defense was still lacking. Offensive Barkley looked good but they still looked bad. I know new center so chemistry needs to be worked on. Hurts showed a few glimpses of good but stil made a ton of mistakes like last season. He still looks slow/sluggish running and he seems to forgotten how to run a dead option. Can we stop calling those right now? He could’ve thrown 3 more picks in the game but were lucky. Also between Hurts and Barkley we had over 35 runs more than half by Hurts were designed. Give. Barkleys health issues I’d like to see Shipley getting more involved and why I wanted another RB this summer. They like Kenny for his recieving and pass pro but we need another guy to take the load off of Hurts and Barkley. We run them in that volume like that all season I’m concerned about injuries becoming a thing.

I’m not that worried given the game was overseas but if they play like this on MNF and the following Sunday there’s worry. Still conceded about the pass rush. This game had some questionable penalties on both sides but some stupid plays. GB shot themselves in the foot and missed a few catches for TDs. Defense helped but this game could’ve been 21-7 GB 1qtr. Also Feel bad for Jordan Love as he’s one of the good guys in the game. Thankfully for him it was a Sprain and not worse.

There were some good things but plenty to work on. If we play like this the coming weeks and lose cause for concern

Thanks. I know it can't be tracked as the season plays out. Was looking for a participant list more than anything. I'll see if I have time later to go through the thread and I'll post what I find.

I would’ve done this but didn’t do it in time. This imho is a hard season to predict as I can see then going 12-5 or 11-6 based on paper but with last seasons late collapse and I don’t think all issues solved could easily see 6-11 or 7-10 or 8-9. Just don’t think the Offense will be consistent enough to score enough point, I was never a Fangio fan nor do we really have the player skillset to run a 3-4 d.
