2024 Philadelphia Eagles - Happy 7th birthday to our most precious baby. (79 Viewers)

Lions can be beat at home

Good point. Was thinking same. I didn't get to watch closely but Chicago isn't a good team. And should have won or gone to OT.

I mean i hate it for them cause i want them to win at some point. But this eagles team would have drilled them today

Going to reserve judgment on Detroit until I see them play Buffalo. Division games are always tough.

That seems wise (considering they’ve put up 52 points twice this season already).

I feel pretty confident that Philly can hold the Lions to less than 50.
Yeah I agree and I wasn’t inferring that they would put up 50 against you guys. My point was that they probably shouldn’t be overlooked based on today’s game.

DET is a good team. I don’t overlook them based on a Thanksgiving game against a division opponent.

If they stay the 1 seed, the bye and especially HFA are huge advantages for them. Philly could beat them at home, but they’d be justifiably underdogs.

Playing in Philly is the Eagles’ best shot at beating them. This weekend’s game is a big game for Philly, trying to win the 1 seed. If they beat BAL, there’s a good chance they can run the table and put Pressure on DET not to drop any games.

Detroit has a brutal remaining schedule. I would imagine they definitely lose at least one and probably two. But in terms of homefield advantage, it’s important who those losses are against. If Detroit only loses 1 game the rest of the year, I’m pretty sure they win the tiebreaker over Philly (unless that one loss is next week against Green Bay).

If Eagles win out, they need DET to either lose to GB or lose 2 games.

If Eagles drop a game against either BAL or PIT, they need DET to drop either 2 NFC games or specifically GBP and BUF.

If they lose against any if CAR, WAS or NYG, they need DET to lose against GBP and another NFC opponent.

If Philly loses to DAL, they suck and the 1 seed is out of reach.

It's early, and I may change my prediction, but right now, I think GB beats them next week.

Agreed

DeVonta Smith is practicing. Assume he'll be playing Sunday.
If truly ready to play, it changes the game in my mind from a coin flip to favoring the Eagles. Ravens won't be able to sell out to stop the run with Aj, Goedert, AND Devonta out there. The Eagles offense is significantly more dynamic when all three are available. The lack of a third WR is worrying whenever one of them is out. I'm disappointed that Dotson hasn't been able to fill that role

I think the Eagles match up extremely well against Detroit. Lions will to need to maintain home field if they wanna go to the big show. I will say that if Eagles lost to Lions in NFCCG I'll be 100% behind them in the bowl
Ditto, especially because one of my best friends is a lifelong Lions fan.

Agreed. Baltimore’s run defense is very very good, their pass defense … not so much. I hope that doesn’t give Kellen and Nick the green light to go pass heavy right out of the gate. They’ve been (perhaps surprisingly) using play action a ton more than last year and if they want to continue their success they need to keep doing so.

I would not be surprised if Saquon has a low YPC to start the game and maybe rips off a big run or two later in the fourth quarter. They should run the ball early and often and set up some deep strikes. I expect AJ to have a big day and Davonte to grab at least one consequential 3rd and long.

Eagles fans, Ravens guy here.

Wanted to wish you guys a great holiday and a great game this Sunday. It has the potential to be a fantastic contest. Let's hope for as few injuries as possible.

Right now, the weather looks like high 30s and sunny with a bit of a breeze.

Looking at the Eagles schedule, this is probably the only game I think they could lose. Historically, they don't do well against QBs who can run.
This isn't me trying to reverse-jinx. But the Ravens D seems much worse than Philly's. I can trick myself into Barkley/Henry being a wash. Baltimore's STs are un-good (not sure about the Eagles'). Jackson's better than Hurts, but I don't know by how much. Eagles WRs are better, but the Ravens TEs have an edge. Baltimore leads the NFL in penalties. Philadelphia is on a heater and the Ravens are -3 - I don't get it.

Eagles traveled to the West Coast last week so it screws up your internal clock for a couple days (Ravens on short rest so maybe that balances itself out). Ravens need to win to keep pace with PIT, Eagles have a comfortable lead in the division. Game in Baltimore. 3 points makes sense.
Ravens are also traveling from an LA road game, which is one of the oddest travel schedule quirks I can remember
There is a sizeable segment of Baltimore fans who think the NFL screws the team every year on their schedule because of Ray Lewis, Brian Billick, and Ray Rice. There's also a sizeable segment of the Ravens fan base who chew holes in their lips having to root for Lamar Jackson. It's not a perfect Venn Diagram, but the overlap is hefty.
If I was a ravens fan I’d be on that Lamar side. Just seems when the pressure is on playoffs wise he crumbles. And the minute he loses his athletic ability I’d rather not be the team who has to worry about his play.
Some of your takes… let’s just say I disagree.
I honestly think Lamar is the most overrated QB in the NFL all time outside of Vick to be honest. He puts up pretty stats regular season stats but crumbles playoff time.
I think that take is bananas. It’s true he has a bad playoff record- until it’s not true any more. He’s worked on staying in the pocket this year.

Completion % on the year: 67.3. Last 5 games: 68.5

3,053 yds, 27 TDs vs 3 INTs! Dude has an absolute howitzer for an arm and can make any throw from any platform. And he is the most athletic QB in the league.

When he goes deep in the playoffs (maybe to the SB) this year, the narrative will change to some other trifle from people who have to stick to their guns on their initial take on him. But, for my money, I take him over every QB playing today, even Mahomes.

There were a lot of GMs who also weren’t willing to pay Lamar either. His playoff numbers are pedestrian too. Only time he made it far was off a great defense

Hurts problem is he’s never going to be a guy to carry the team on his back if his top guys get hurt.
Who are the guys that can do this today?

Hurts having issues trusting certain guys and it could be something to watch.

This is normal with back ups.
Brady trusted all his guys, manning as well, Warner did, today Allen seems to have no problems, Mack Hollins looks like a better WR then what we have now, Herbert has the youngest WR corps in the nfl and got on the ball, Mahomes never seems to have trouble.

Hurts biggest problem is his tunnel vision on the field. If AJ isn’t open or Smith or Goddart he tends to panic. Page has several examples from earlier in the year on his thread all 22 mash ups of this on Twitter/x and BGN.

Here’s d Gunn talking about it awhile ago on a post game show. The way Gunn explains it proves Hurts and starters should be playing some preseason games. If hurts has issues trusting guys this badly to start he needs to play in preseason

IDK man. Seems to me, and I do not believe I am alone in thinking this but, when I read your posts I get the impression that you tend to look for any little criticism of Jalen Hurts you can find that confirms your bias. Then, I see you using this perceived confirmation bias to consistently double down on your unhappiness with the fact that Hurts is, and has been, the Eagles very successful starting QB.

Seriously, when is the last time the Philadelphia Eagles drafted a QB outside of the 1st round that became a very successful, years-long, Super Bowl starting QB??? Hurts is attempting to lead this team on another Super Bowl run just two years removed from the last SB run and all I read from you are reasons he cannot.

I am really very sorry Wentz got hurt in '17 and that his brain imploded when he had to watch Nicky freakin' Foles win a Super Bowl and get a statue erected in his honor outside the Linc. It is what it is. Please, get over it.
My issue with hurts is I think many overrate what he is. Too me he’s an overhyped game manager aka Russel Wilson. People thought Wilson was great till he wasn’t. One of the huge issues with Wilson over his career was skilled players would go elsewhere from sea and have much better yrs (opposite of their defebse personel). I’m not saying Hurts is a terrible player. I’d take him everyday and twice on Sundays over Lamar. I think people get infatuated with the video game skillset highlights a guy like Lamar can do or put up in the regular season but the dude tends to cave in on the biggest stage.

What we’re paying Hurts right now is elite QB money and unfortunately he’s just not elite. I just don’t like the overpaying. Hurts just isn’t a guy who if half his offebse gets hurt will throw 4k with no WR over 500yds rec and 35 tds and less then 10 ints to the playoffs unfortunately. I not a fan of paying that kind of money to players who don’t make guys around them better but needs guys around them as a QB to make him better

So 1 QB today. Can you see it yet?
I named Herbert and Mahomes I would go with Joe Burrow as well Stafford seems to find ways as well

So after his first 3 options, he panics? I don’t think you realize how common this is for any QB.

And is it even possible to have “tunnel vision” and then name 3 options? This isn’t like a Stafford/CJ situation

The problem is Hurts doesn’t even make his reads. He’s very slow at it and half the time he’s made up his mind pre snap I’m going to AJ or Devonta. When that’s not there he then panics.

Hurts is the ninth highest paid qb
Seems about right to me

And some of the guys ahead of him dont have the success he has had

Him not getting a contract right away had more to do with the circumstances and timing of his deal: Him deciding to go no agent; teams not wanting to do BALs negotiating for them; and the NFL being scared poop-less after the Watson debacle and deal and wanting to hit the reset button on QB contracts.

You don’t honestly think NFL GMs didn’t offer him a contract based on some “playoff jinx” or fan perception he shrinks in the playoffs? I’m no insider, but I highly doubt any GM would turn down a chance at a QB like him for that flimsy reason. Dude was built in a lab to be an NFL QB.

Hurts is the ninth highest paid qb
Seems about right to me

And some of the guys ahead of him dont have the success he has had

Exactly and as it stands today you have one (Mahomes) maybe 2 (Allen) elite QB’s playing now. Hurts and many, many others are in the next tier. There was a time he was overrated (couple years back), but it’s not now.

This. Expectations by fans were that he was elite after the SB. He’s not, but he is top-tier. And he has something that a lot of guys don’t: he is clutch. He wins in big moments.

BIg game today

Working all night, will get home around 8:30am PST nap around 4 hours. Get up and drink coffee in time for this game.

I am geeked to see this one! More than any orher game this year.

Go Birds! 🦅

I don’t like to go hyperbolic and call mid season games “must-win”. Especially non divisional, non-conference games. But man, a win in Baltimore really sets us up to be in a good position for the #1 seed. If they can pull out a win today they’d be 10-2 with 5 games left against Carolina, Pittsburg and the NFCE. There a real world in which we run the tables.

Detroit is atop the NFC at 11-1 but they’ve got a much tougher slog remaining. They’ve got GB and Buffalo, then at Chicago and SF and finish off against Minny. There’s a real scenario where Detroit could lose a couple of those and be fighting for the division in week 18.

Again I’m not trying to get ahead of myself here, but boy a win in this game could really ramp up the pressure on the Lions.

Devonta Smith is OUT.

We’re due for a stinker anyway and BAL is a tough matchup (and not an NFC opponent) so a loss today would not be the end of the world. And next week vs. CAR at home is a perfect game to get back on track and go on another run to end the season.

Yooooo!!! This team is legit. This defense is legit. This running game is legit. And we’re the best team in league. **** everyone else. We’re going dancing boys!!
That was a statement win for the D. I was a little skeptical how well they’d match up against BAL with Lamar snd Henry and missing BG.

They are playing soooooo damn good! 💪💪💪💪

I don't see another loss on the schedule. I'm calling it two weeks out, they're gonna put a whooping on PIT, 34-13.
It might be closer to 50-13 TBH. The Steelers D has suddenly become atrocious. The secondary and linebackers have been really bad and if they can't get pressure on Jalen, Philly will score all day long. I can't think of a single strength that plays in the hands of the Steelers in that matchup.

My team aint no Chiefs. ChiefD can get away with that crap.

Good win still terrible start in 1st QTRs can’t keep happening. Shot ourselves in the foot too 1st QTR

Any word on Dallas Goedart injury? Also lost Reed Blankenship.

Tucker missing the XP and FGs really helped us.

Defebse did well despite I saw quite a few holds by Baltimore OL including the play to Flowers early in the gane. Refs made up for the non DEf Hold in ez when they failed to call a false start on the Hurts TD.

Good win but we can’t keep starting slow like this. It’s gonna cost us eventualy

Seeing reports that Ben VanSumeren messed his knee up and is out for the season.

The Eagles gained 124 rushing yards on those 20 rushing attempts. Philadelphia averaged 6.2 yards per carry with VanSumeren in at fullback.
Man that sucks for him. He looked like he was having a lot of fun.
Most defensive Guys who get to do that two way FB thing love it. Nagata of Bal loved doing it and i rember hearing stories how The Fridge loved doing it for DA Bears and Eagles

Everytime I see a replay of Jalen Carter, he’s blantantly being held. Nick needs to pull a Phil Jackson at some point and just take the fine complain about the refs not calling them. At least it brings the leagues attention to it.

THE REFS
A couple gripes:

The Ravens entered this game as the NFL’s most penalized team. And yet somehow they managed to avoid committing any non-pre-snap penalties until the fourth quarter. Hm!
The Ravens entered this game with the NFL’s most holding penalties. And yet their offensive line apparently didn’t hold once all game long. Sure.
All told, the Eagles were penalized eight times for 55 yards while the Ravens were penalized four times for 20 yards.
