2024 Philadelphia Eagles - Sorry Fred Johnson, that didgeridoo sound means you’re headed back to the bench soon. (44 Viewers)

So we have the Jags this week. This should be a beat down situation; the Jags are not very good, they're trading away starters, they've won 2 games all year and 0 on the road. After that we travel to Dallas. The Cowboys seem like they are on the verge of a complete meltdown with a losing record, post-game outbursts and winless at home so far. That being said, until the Birds win in Dallas I won't believe they can win in Dallas-I think the last time was in '17. I think they can pull out a win, but I'm skeptical.

Washington has been flying high but I'm not super scared of them.

Ravens, Steelers and @ Washington are the three games that I'm currently checking off as an L. That puts us at 12-5. As much as I am skeptical of Washington, they have a good shot at going 12-5 (assuming we can at least split with them). Everyone knows the stat, there hasn't been a back to back winner of the NFCE in 347 years. Gonna be an exciting couple months of football coming our way.

Jags traded their franchised LT to MIN, which should be nice for our edge rush this week.

He got benched, they were moving on from him and weren't going to re-sign him. He's been pretty average for his career.
yep. discussed on pat mcaffee a few days ago, Jax had already found a replacement in a rookie(?) who already started a few games and is the future in the position so probably no dropoff, wherever in the scale they may be.

Hurts isn't allowed to play golf per his contract... why golf... is he some kind of an affcianado(sp)?

Jalen Hurts reveals bizarre thing that's banned in his $255m contract

You can messs up your back and shoulders swinging a club
For us old guys sure, surprised it's included for a young athlete but he is an expensive investment after all. then it's probably more than just golf too, like bball, soccer, etc.

Small price to pay to make the money hes making

Apparently it's gay for a man to *checks notes* date a rich, attractive woman. Who knew?
To a 19 year old college kid, everything is gay.
This guy will need to go to college like far away or he is going to hate the rest of his experience if he stays. What a society we live in where 19 year old losers think its cool to try to taunt former professional football players, let alone a legend like Jason.

Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Being an Eagles legend doesn't mean he carries the same cache at Penn State. Lower Central PA is Redskin territory and Western PA is Steeler territory.

I'll say this about Sirianni, he's going to go out on his own terms. I hate giving up points early, and then having to chase them later. I don't care what analytics say.

Yep. He’s become so reliant on them that he’s becoming out of touch. The analytics don’t read the room. No need to give a team like the Jags any momentum. Just kick the XP’s and FG’s every time and it’s a blowout.

Couple other notes:

- That play by Barkley was just insane. I don’t know what else to say and I couldn’t believe what I saw

- That fumble call was one of the most obvious missed calls I can think of. Never have I witnessed something like that before.

- The DL just disappears too much at times. We should have dominated their OL constantly.

- Love how we’re running the ball and really wish we had someone better behind Barkley. Gainwell is so average.

- The TD pass to Smith was a perfect pass and catch

- love how Fangio brought constant pressure when the Jags had a chance to take the lead.

- Have to really hope Brown is back next week.

Still unclear to me how the fumble was such an obvious missed call. Barkley wasn't knocked to the ground by a defender, but by the Offensive guard. One Jag touched him before he tripped over the guard, but he wasn't remotely close to going to the ground for it...barely brushed his leg and Barkley took another step THEN tripped over the leg of his own player. bizarre play.

regardless, a lot of baffling choices by Nick in this one. you don't go for two when 1 puts you up 17. Left so many points on the board

I wasn’t watching it live so I’m wondering did Nick throw the challenge flag? After watching the replay, I’m not sure how they called that a fumble. The Jags defender made contact with his leg and he went down. It was weak contact but it was nevertheless contact. Doesn’t matter if his leg got tangled with a teammate after that contact.

What if Saquon didn’t drop the ball, got up and ran for a TD? Would that have held? I seriously doubt it.

He got touched by a defender and then fell to the ground. Nothing else matters. There's no degrees of a tackle. If Barkley has been touched the same way and went to the ground but got up and kept running he would have been ruled down by contact. There's no scale of how much a player is touched for him to go down. He was touched and then he went down. He was down .

It was a turnover so it was automatically reviewed. The refs looked at it and said the play stands. Most batshit thing I've seen since the no PI in the Saints vs Rams NFCG.

It’s mind boggling how they missed that call. I’ve seen plays like that hundreds of times and they’re always down.

And I didn’t see it mentioned anywhere but on our last drive, did Barkley slide because he thought he had the first and was 4-5 yards short? I wanted to rewatch but didn’t have time.

He's not using analytics. He's coaching like a kid with ADHD playing Madden.

It does matter. The player has to be off balance or stumbling after the contact. Clearly a player can touch you running through the hole, but if you trip 10 yards downfield on your own....you aren't down. In this case it was, quite literally, one step later Saquon was tripping over his own player. Is that not far enough? Either way, it's a massive stretch to say the Jag defender that brushed his leg caused him to stumble.....he didn't. Regardless...I just didn't think it was so clearly a missed call as everyone else here seems to think

watch again...he took another step, IN BALANCE, after what was barely a brush. He tripped over the gaurd, not by a tackle.

He slid because he thought he was going to go out of bounds and might not get the first.
he wasn't very close to the sideline though, and could have turned upfield and possibly still had the first. I think he was slightly off balance after making aguy miss and just didnt wanna push it. I also think he was nursing a minor pull most of the game...he seemed slightly gimpy several times getting up. Maybe he thought he tweaked it worse on that run after the move and went down to be safe?

He’s 100% off balance and stumbling shortly after contact.

The second part of the replay shows contact, him hitting a teammate and immediately and going down. You don’t get saved from the contact by running into a teammate. If a defender pushed you from behind into a teammate and you fall after that it’s not a fumble.

It doesn't matter though. The defender touches him and then he went to the ground. That's a tackle.

Jalen Hurts over the last 4 games:

- 1,001 total yards
- 12 TDs
- 73.% completion percentage
- 0 turnovers
- 4-0
Almost like it takes a little to learn a new offense.

Hurts looks more accurate than ever to me. What's really scary for defenses, is he only really had 1 game with all of AJ, Smith, and Goedert all playing. Hopefully AJ's thing is minor, and Goedert seems like he'll be back in week 10.

Yep and they’re not being stubborn and having him throw to set up the pass. Use the run game, his legs and let the run game set up the pass!

If you get a sec, you watch a replay of the play where he hit Smith on the deep crosser. That play action also had the TE WIDE OPEN because all the LBers bit so hard.

Even on the plays he missed he has guys open because the run game opened up so much. The one 4th down call where he went from under center. Watch #84 on that play.

The offense and defense have been very encouraging despite critical injuries

Barkley doesn’t need to be knocked to the ground by the defender. We’ve all seen replays where the runner slips and falls and the defender’s shoelace grazes him and he’s ruled down. Put it this way, to believe that he was not down means that had he not fumbled, he could have gotten back up and continued running. Does anyone think that wouldn’t be blown dead?

are we going to make some moves today? hoping for a pass rusher and a new coach
I would imagine we make a move we don't expect, and the move to not work out. Mid season trades, I remember Ajayi being a good one....the rest have been Golden Tate style
Yup. Ajayi was the last one that worked out. I think Howie is a little snake bit, now.

Golden Tate- 3rd
Genard Avery- 4th
Robert Quinn- 4th
Kevin Byard- 5th + 6th + Terrell Edmunds.
Not to mention a 3rd for Dotson this year.

If there is any move, I think it’ll be a low-end backup player at EDGE or Oline. No splash moves- which is fine. There is decent talent on this team. Yeah a 3rd WR would be nice and EDGE def needs help, but they’re solid at starters, barring injuries.

I could see them moving Maddox or Bradberry, if any team had any interest, at all. But I don’t think the market’s very high for DBs who have been ravaged by Father Time.

Maddox and Bradberry went from useful to shouldn't see the field really quick.
