2024 Philadelphia Eagles - Winless in Baltimore against the Ravens, nevermore. (7 Viewers)

When looking at the schedule in the preseason this is the only game I thought the Eagles would lose outright.

Now? I think this is a very winnable game for the birds. An easy win? Absolutely not. But, win a highly competitive battle against a likely AFC playoff team? Yes, yes I do think the Eagles have a great chance to win. Remember, the Eagles are 5-1 on the road so far this season.

Eagles fans, Ravens guy here.

Wanted to wish you guys a great holiday and a great game this Sunday. It has the potential to be a fantastic contest. Let's hope for as few injuries as possible.

Right now, the weather looks like high 30s and sunny with a bit of a breeze.

Looking at the Eagles schedule, this is probably the only game I think they could lose. Historically, they don't do well against QBs who can run.
This isn't me trying to reverse-jinx. But the Ravens D seems much worse than Philly's. I can trick myself into Barkley/Henry being a wash. Baltimore's STs are un-good (not sure about the Eagles'). Jackson's better than Hurts, but I don't know by how much. Eagles WRs are better, but the Ravens TEs have an edge. Baltimore leads the NFL in penalties. Philadelphia is on a heater and the Ravens are -3 - I don't get it.

Eagles traveled to the West Coast last week so it screws up your internal clock for a couple days (Ravens on short rest so maybe that balances itself out). Ravens need to win to keep pace with PIT, Eagles have a comfortable lead in the division. Game in Baltimore. 3 points makes sense.

Maybe. Baltimore has played well in "national games" under Jackson (& Harbaugh). The D/ST scares me in big moments - the D can't get off of the field and the STs have been awful.

He used to be a Colts guy, but when Irsay stole the team in the middle of the night
That lying coward damned near broke me. That event made it hard for me to warm up to the Ravens, given what the old Browns meant to Cleveland.

It was much harder to follow a distant team back in those days, so I instead concentrated an irrational hatred for Washington. Many of my friends were fans and were especially smug because they were so damned good.

I've always wondered about your user name and you being an Eagles fan. You still follow Maryland in college sports?
Haha! Man I was WAY into Maryland College Basketball back in the day, but my Eagles fandom kinda took over everything else - if the Orioles were not owned by Angelos at the time I would have been more in, as baseball was my first love) but ever since the money really polluted everything in college, I kind of stopped watching.

Love your Logo/Avi by the way. Was born in the Yelow/Black checkered version, but the family ended up moving later and settling down in the Red/white area and ya know, I had to get away so I've been in CA the majority of my life at this point.

But I DID just go back in October and had some Jimmy's Seafood for the first time. Lived up to the legend!

Also, lost in all of this celebratory discussion today is the fact that we did what we did Last night without Davonte playing.

I think this Ravens game comes down to one thing the most: tackling.

The Eagles’ tackling has improved but going from unmitigated disaster to still-not-great and less consistently frustrating isn’t reassuring when you have Jackson and Henry to deal with.

They will need to have a near perfect tackling performance, or else it’s going to be tough to pull out a win.

I'm trying to find it, but one of my Eagles podcasts I listen to yesterday said the Eagles are 2nd in the league in fewest missed tackles this year according to some sort of Next Gen stats. I'll try to find it!

There is a sizeable segment of Baltimore fans who think the NFL screws the team every year on their schedule because of Ray Lewis, Brian Billick, and Ray Rice. There's also a sizeable segment of the Ravens fan base who chew holes in their lips having to root for Lamar Jackson. It's not a perfect Venn Diagram, but the overlap is hefty.

Yeah, well, then I'm taking the Eagles getting the points.

So you come into a fantasy football message board, into a team thread, tell a guy that one of the best player's on the team is "easily replaceable" b/c he spelled his first name wrong?

But you won't even tell us who your team is? I see Falcons Ron Mexico jersey, so that is my best guess.

'Tis the season for jumping into the Eagles thread to tell us

1. Our players aren't that good
2. Our opponents are not that good
3. We are lucky
4. If only this one major contributor was taken off our roster, we'd be terrible.

I see you have less than 1k posts here so maybe you are new, maybe you just don't post frequently. But I mean, I'm not sure what you are expecting the reactions to be. But this kind of stuff isn't anything new for us, so we really do appreciate that attempts to troll us I guess.

I root for the Minnesota Vikings, and have for 40 years. There is literally no bounds to pain, heartbreak, disappointment, etc. that I have already endured, so fire away, I promise I will not take it personally. My only point was that losing Smith is not that big of a deal. The person I said it to responded, then I left it as that, and it should have been done. Then everyone from the peanut gallery had to inject themselves into the convo and add their $.02. And here we are.

Be a jerk and criticize everything the NFL did while he was a coach? At least, that's part of the conspiracy. I'm not saying I agree with any of it, but Baltimore is a strange town and many fans have Napolean Disease.

All good man. I guess it just depends on your definition of "replaceable"

Devonta Smith is one of the most decorated college WRs of all time. That part is not debateable.

But lets talk about him since being drafted into the NFL 10th overall:

Devonta's Ranks since coming into the league, receiving yards

2021 - 29th, 916 yards. NFL had 26 1k+ receivers.
2022 - 9th, 1196, NFL had 22 1k+ receivers
2023 - 20th 1066 yards, NFL had 28 1k receivers.

Jordan Addison had 911 yards as a rookie, which was ranked 33rd.

So those 2 players compare relatively well in my opinion. Both in situation (both had to be "the guy" in a rookie year, but usually always see the #2 bc the other guy always sees the #1 CB)

If you believe Addison is just a replaceable as Smith I got nothing for ya. And I think Smith is a better player still.

To each their own, I don't take any of it personal, I just find it comical how often people come for us Eagles fans in some sort of fashion "Ya'll ain't s***"

I remember watching that 2017 NFC title game thinking Harrison Smith is easily replaceable fwiw

Good luck the rest of the season, would be cool if you guys beat the Lions!

Lol at didn't know his name. Voice to text will do that from time to time. You seemed to not know what you are talking about but then the "maybe he's a good run blocker" was dropped and I realized you're just trolling. Have a great thanksgiving!

I had a bit of a chuckle today.....

Got a Sleeper notification about a rumor that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not ruling out a contract extension for HC Mikey McCarthy.

Apparently "he's a Super Bowl winning coach and has great ideas," according to Jerruh.

Not trying to call you out or create static, and you seem cool enough. But, honestly what did you expect? Your hot take wasn’t exactly scorching.

It always baffles me a little that people come post something negative about the Eagles players, coaches or fans in the team thread on a Fantasy Football message board and expect everyone to just say “Ah, interesting point you made”.

It’s a message board- it’s here for messages. There’s a couple dozen Eagle fans that post in here regularly, and know the team pretty well. I check in every day, and sometimes would love any topic to talk about the team. So, when somebody drops an ill-informed take on one of the players, they’re gonna get replies from at least 10 people, with their take.

Nobody was downright hostile, maybe a little snarky. But your opinion on Devonta is pretty ill-informed, honestly.

It can get a little echo-chamber-y in here. But it’s our thread to alk anout our team. So, that’s kinda expected, too. I welcome all fans to come in and talk football, related to the Eagles. Even Cowboys fans (who DO troll, and I kinda enjoy that smack talk).

But maybe some posters should grow a little bark if they want to drop hot takes, and expect a little brush back.

Again, that isn’t aimed directly at you. Just in general, expect to take some razzing or snark if one posts a negative take in a team thread, and not complain about people having an opinion on their opinion. Everybody gets to share their opinion- even if it stinks. 😉

Just got an Eagles update from nfl.com:

  • LB Charles Harris claimed off waivers from Panthers, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported.

I don't understand, why would CAR waive this guy. His numbers look serviceable, he doesn't have a huge cap hit and he's only on a 1 year deal.
Long list of questionable decisions by that franchise....I don't think they know what they are doing...

The funny thing about the whole "Devonta is replaceable" is the clear lack of knowledge about a team in regards to a hot take like this. I don't have to tell any Eagles fans about the pain we have endured over the past 25+ years at WR

3 NFC Title Games with DEFINITELY replaceable players like Todd Pinkston and NA Brown
Freddie Mitchell?
Billy McMullen?
Finally getting TO
Marvin McNutt?
The TO experience
Finally Drafting Desean
The Desean Jackson Experience
The one Kevin Curtis game!
We drafted an olympic skiier?
Drafting Jeremy Maclin
The Chip Kelly experience
Jordan Mathews
Hey Desean is back!
Oh wow Desean is hurt
Nelson Agholor Baby!
Alshon/Torrey/Agholor help win a Super Bowl!
Drafting Devonta
Stealing AJ Brown

Took a long time to get here. I know the long grizzled Eagles fans like me are basically like "I can't believe this is our life"

Harris has to pass a physical with any team that claims him off waivers. Correct?

He played on Sunday, not sure he would fail a physical.

Man, i really want Shaq Barrett to come to Philly.

Burst my bubble to find out he’d have to be reinstated, released by MIA and then clear waivers (Eagles pick 29th) but all the internet buzz had me excited for a minute.

Oh I do not think he will fail one. Just commenting that I believe a physical is mandatory due diligence. I'm not sure if it is or not.

it is. we dont have many wrs
It’s that and a huge problem I keep hearing about from people in the know is Hurts lack of trust in anyone outside his top 3 guys and Calcattara. To be fair though Dotson is absolute dogshit and can’t even get seperation off the LOS.
So he mostly trusts his wr1, wr2, HOF RB, and TE. That’s a huge problem…..how? Who else is he supposed to trust, ffs?
Eagles can’t get any new Recievers and we obviously saw what happens when Hurts loses even 2 if his 3 trusted targets. Very little trust in anyone else, looks like a deer in headlights. You should have a decent rapsheet with your 3-4-5 guys in case of injuries. People rag on Wentz constantly for leadership but every year he took everyone In The skilled position on a summer retreat somewhere for all of them to get to know each other better and get confidence with one another.

Not trusting your back ups is a huge issue here.

I thought the maclin/ desean combo was pretty damn good. But our current duo is light years better and thats with a qb who doesnt throw much

Also, lost in all of this celebratory discussion today is the fact that we did what we did Last night without Davonte playing.
I am assuming you mean DeVonta Smith? If so, is that really that big of a hole in the lineup?

it is. we dont have many wrs

It’s really not. Like at all. I would expect any qb to have more trust in AJ Brown and Smith than Calcaterra and Wilson. This is not a huge issue. It’s not even an issue.

Yes, it’s a huge hole. He would be a WR1 on most other NFL teams. Couple that with the fact that our WR3 is only so so, not having him in there is a huge loss.
From an outsiders perspective, Barkley is the offense. AJB is the straw the stirs the passing game drink. DeVonta is a nice piece, but very, very replaceable. I am sure the offense put up at least average stats yesterday, no?
Smith would start on almost any team. They also have a top 8 TE too. But if even 2 of those pieces are out for long we’re in trouble. Zero depth outside the top 2 WRs
“Almost any team”. Can you name me the teams that smith would not start? Because I think he’d be a WR1 on a lot of teams.

Probably LAR, Cincy, Mia and you could maybe make a case in SF or SEA depending how you view JSN any Ayuk.

What?

I find difficult to take you seriously about almost everything with regards to the Eagles.

Ravens are also traveling from an LA road game, which is one of the oddest travel schedule quirks I can remember
If I was a ravens fan I’d be on that Lamar side. Just seems when the pressure is on playoffs wise he crumbles. And the minute he loses his athletic ability I’d rather not be the team who has to worry about his play.

what
Lol
Like I said, outsiders perspective. Maybe he is a really good run blocker. All I can go on are his stats, which are easily replaceable.
Do you have a favorite team? Would love to give an outsiders perspective to the current roster construction of your team, in comparison to the Eagles. Ya know, just to see who is easily replaceable and all. Let us know!
:lmao:
Nah man, I digress. I will let you guys get back to your echo chamber. Didn't mean to call anybody's baby ugly. I was just responding to the one dude who did not even know DeVonta's name. As you were...

Go Sports!
Maybe he’s a poster on here using an alias?

Lol at didn't know his name. Voice to text will do that from time to time. You seemed to not know what you are talking about but then the "maybe he's a good run blocker" was dropped and I realized you're just trolling. Have a great thanksgiving!
Probably still upset our back up QB b*** slapped them in the conference title game. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Eagles hater/troll. In the "Where do you rank Sirianni as a coach" thread abrun1133 ranked Sirianni in the 29-32 range. I'm not a huge Sirianni fan, but he's certainly in the top 20 of coaches, and probably in the top half.

Hurts problem is he’s never going to be a guy to carry the team on his back if his top guys get hurt. That’s ok but it makes it harder for the Eagles to bring in players to replace guys if hurt easier. It’s one of the reasons I hated the Dotson trade. The dude bring nothing to the table. I thought Juju would’ve been great as he’s a vet with experience who imho could easily gel. Yeah he’s been hurt recently but hindsight 20/20 and all he costed was money.

I honestly think Lamar is the most overrated QB in the NFL all time outside of Vick to be honest. He puts up pretty stats regular season stats but crumbles playoff time.

NAME ME THE TEAMS SMITH WOULD NOT START ON?

I didn’t read it right at first and started naming the teams he would before rewriting it. Im
Not a Homer by any means. So I named the teams he might not start on. As you can see that’s a very small list.

I love Smith btw but I’m not going to sit here and try to say he’s better then some of the guys elsewhere.

Ok man. Lol

Jalen for sure practiced with Johnny Wilson outside the facility this summer. I remember that clearly. I don’t know about anyone else.
He had no time with Dotson. Jimmy Page mentioned he heard from people inside the team facility, Hurts having issues trusting certain guys and it could be something to watch. Specifically in TB game he mentioned Dotson being Wideopen for a 1st plus more and checked down instead to Grant who was short of the marker. There’s even a thread on Eagles Reddit I believe early in the season or comments in the early season threads mentioning this as well and been brought up a couple other times this year too.
