*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: Ridiculous Schedule, Cam Hayward misses OTAs (13 Viewers)

What a great start to the off season, but the end so far has been disappointing.. Might be one of the worst Wr cores in the league.

Is Van Jefferson the #2?
Roman Wilson is our WR2, just out of the slot. But Van/Quez are our WR3 currently.

Currently, we have the 2021 Titans Special. They had AJ Brown as their WR1, and an aged Julio Jones as their WR2 (434 yards that season). They were carried by Derrick Henry to a 12-5 record. Najee and Warren are going to combine to form Voltronhenry and lead us to success.

Though I still hope we make some kind of move for another WR that's in the top 50.
So our top 2 is a unproven guy, who has miles of talent, but still hasn't put it all together, and a rookie, with a bunch of bums behind them?

My expectations are starting to diminish. Guess all the talk about Aiyuk, and even Boyd, was just talk. Nothing serious.

Steeler1080 had a great point in a previous post. He mentioned the following..... It feels like we're going to trade for someone post June 1st, or pick up a WR during the cut down period.

Don't quote me on this but Michael Thomas is a post June 1st cut. In all honesty the Steeler's signing all these small ball fast receivers tell's me they either don't believe in Calvin Austin iii or they just want more competition in camp.

Steeler's invite QB from Pitt Phil Jurkovich to play TE. Another yawner for me.

It takes two teams to trade. They may have tried and were told no. Not much they can do at that point.

Boyd is ok but not much better than what they have IMO.

And it’s only May. Lots of time for a trade to happen.

You don't get to spread a cap hit over two years (June 1) in a trade.

You can do that when you cut someone. June 1 designation has nothing to do with a trade

Of all the receivers they currently have on the roster I expect maybe 4 of them will make it to Sept.

Me too.. Pickens, Jefferson, Wilson, and Watkins..

I think Austin and Miller will be cut.

In terms of other team cuts, they aren't picking up anyone that will make a huge difference. They seriously need a #2 or better hope one of these guys have a career season.

My understanding was that you can't use a June 1st designation for a trade like you can for a cut. I.E., you can cut up to 2 players per year prior to June 1st, but designate them as a post-June 1st cut and spread the cap hit.

However, I thought that any trades or cuts after June 1st can be split between this season and the next. So, if they waited until after June 1st to do any trade, then the cap hit would be spread out over the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Finding a copy of the NFL salary cap rules is difficult, but this is the explanation I've seen most often.

Steelers often keep 6 WRs, they currently have 11 on the payroll. I think they end up keeping 5 and adding 1 somehow, through trade or pickup.
  • Pickens and Roman Wilson are 100% going to make the team unless something crazy happens.
  • I still think Calvin Austin makes the team, he's another season removed from a major injury and was underutilized by a terrible OC. I think he finds a way to carve out a role.
  • I think 2 of Quez Watkins, Van Jefferson, Denzel Mims, Marquez Callaway, and Scotty Miller make the team, with Quez and Van being the frontrunners.
    • All 5 of these WRs are on vet minimum contracts with Quez and Van at the exact same rate.
    • Mims probably has the highest upside (6'3" with 4.38 speed) but he allegedly is just an athlete, not a wide receiver.

He is, but is also a slot guy

This is a great post, but for the sake of a forum,. I will disagree on Austin.. I think he has an uphill battle this year with them drafting Wilson and bringing in 3 guys. They signed Miller, and Tomlin likes these type of wideouts, so I think he will make the team.

The best thing for Calvin maybe to get on another team. Even if he makes this one, he is probably not getting many touches.

Seeing probably unreliable rumors that the Steelers will open on the road against Atlanta - which makes sense, actually. We'll see. I try to make a road game each year (went to Seattle NYE most recently) and looking at this one or Denver for 2024.

It seems the Ravens play the Chiefs in week 1 and the Bengals play them in week 2, both at Arrowhead. Gives us a decent chance to start the season off on the right foot and have our rivals potentially lose.

In other news, a new WR is being floated for the Steelers, Burks from the Titans. This would be a stupid mistake unless they plan to use Roman Wilson on the outside. Articles talk about having Burks play outside opposite Pickens, but he will fail if they do that. The reason he's failed so far in Tennessee is that they're trying to fit a slot peg in an outside hole. Burks is a big slot, that's what his skill set indicates. He should be used more like Cooper Kupp than AJ Brown, and the Titans are wasting him because of where they had holes in the offense.

If we trade for him and put him outside, it would just be another example of playing a player out of position (See Green & Dotson).

Braves are playing at home that day. Heard Steelers could also open on Monday Night at home vs Giants.

Maybe they will play both days?? Start Wilson vs Falcons and JF vs Giants??

I'm really tired of the Treylon Burks rumors. Steelers shouldn't trade for him unless the Titans want to salary dump him(Titans take on some of his salary) and exchange 7th round picks. Then kick the tires on him and if he doesn't produce cut him.

I'd like to see the Steeler's sign Michael Thomas although he's more a possession receiver. But I'm hoping MT doesn't sign with the Chiefs.

Here's a good article talking about 3 WR fighting for one roster spot. I know a number of posts here have pretty much already discussed this subject matter. Although CA probably will be the front runner due to his punt return capabilities.

Is Thomas even worth getting? The dude gets hurt getting up in the morning it seems..

Not going to lie, Burks intrigues me, he is young and seems to have a lot of talent. The QB situation in Tennessee just hasn't been good.

Well there's at least 1 Steelers game I won't be watching (unless I "borrow" my daughter's Netflix account).

Being out of market I'm sure it's one of several I won't watch.
I am so sick of NFL games being played on Christmas and this year it is even more nonsensical with Christmas falling on a Wednesday. If this turns out to be true I will be immediately listing the game on the ticket exchange. It sucks because I would have liked to see the defending SB champs.

Is Sunday Ticket even worth $399 anymore?
No, but there is a loophole. At least there was last year. You could sign up at the student rate which was less than half the full price. There were instructions on reddit on how to access the student rate if you weren't a student.

Also, if you still have access to a .edu email address that was working last year. Some places with student discounts require verification with the school that you're still an active student, but Youtube Sunday Ticket wasn't.

Never was as far as I'm concerned. When Direct had it and I had Direct I would call to get the price knocked down. Now YTTV has it and they keep sending me $100 off offers and that's about $200 too little to get my interest.

Isn't that also one of the issues with Burks?
I know Burks got hurt against the Eagles, when he was knocked out cold, but I don't follow his injuries much to know if it's an issue.. With age, Thomas is def hurt way too much. He also remind me of what Robinson would be.
To be fair, someone said one or some of his injuries were from being sent on go routes and getting clobbered when the ball was overthrown.

I agree that Burks isn't what we need, but Thomas also seems like a massive headache (in addition to injury concerns). I'd rather wait to see who gets cut, or trade for someone.

Are the games that are "broadcast" on the streaming service not available on Sunday Ticket?

Sunday Ticket used to the Sunday 1pm and 4/4:30 games only. So no prime time games. Pretty sure its still this, but I no longer subscribe.

This. And the games going to a streaming service are exclusive to those services unless you live in the viewing area. Just like the Thursday night games on Prime. Possibly available on NFL+ (mobile).

So now we need some sort of service for the Sunday/Monday games, Peacock for a game or 2, Netflix for a couple of games, and Prime for Thursday games. Looks like I'll miss a lot of games this year.

They are not. It's only the 1 and 4 pm games.

Also, just saw a leak that we might get At Philly, At Ravens, Chiefs home on Xmas. That gauntlet would be almost unwinnable.

Saw that too, Maybe a late bye would help that, but I have a feeling our bye will be week 5.

If this is the schedule, we really get killed coming out of the BYE, but I guess in theory could also steal the division. But a lot of tough games.

The Good:
  • We get an extended week to prepare/rest for the Bengals game both times
The Bad:
  • We start the season with 4 of 6 games on the road (To ATL, To Denver, To Pitt, To Indy, To Pitt, To LV, To Pitt)
  • All 6 of our division games would be after the bye week
  • 2 days between the Ravens game and Chiefs game and the Ravens game is away.
  • We end the season Ravens, Browns, Bengals, Browns, Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs, Bengals. If we can come out of that gauntlet with more wins that losses then we are a Super Bowl contender.

At Falcons, Achilles Game 1, Win
At Broncos, Rookie QB-6, Win
vs Chargers, They have all new skill guys, Home opener, Win
At Colts, ARich is the target, Win
I have a 4-0 start here

vs Cowboys
at Raiders
vs Jets
vs Giants

I'll say 6-2 going into the Bye week right in the middle of the season.

I'll say 3-3 vs the Division so that puts you at 9-5 with games at DC and Philly plus hosting the Chiefs

10-7 seems like an easy target to hit

6 of our last 8 games are division opponents.

Short week after each Raven game.
And the two non-divisions games are the Eagles and Chiefs.

I don't see how any team could make through that 8 game juggernaut and come out not torn up. Awful.

I remember the Eagles having a murders row schedule last but there was a 5-6 game stretch and not to end the season, but they crumbled during that 5-6 game stretch. We got a 8 gamer with no rest for playoffs if we make it. Unheard of crap to overcome, going to be dead team walking by end of the season but might have enough wins early in the year to get in the playoffs, which is basically the worst of both worlds.

Complaining about the schedule is a yearly ritual but this is insane. They better get off to a good start.

As promised my tickets for the Christmas Chiefs game have been listed. I am hoping some Swifty fans buy them in the hopes of seeing their idol on Christmas day.
