*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: one and done again. (1 Viewer)

Watt may be available next week. Pickens likely out (potentially grade 2 strain). The Steelers need to win next week. They could then go conservative the last 2 weeks to try and get healthy for the playoffs. It’s going to be real tough beating Baltimore again but I’m hoping the *** kicking they took this week lights a fire.

They need to draft a damn receiver next year. What they roll out there without Pickens is pathetic.
It is a horrible WR class. I was furious they didn't draft a WR this year, but I probably don't want them to reach for one next year
I wouldn't call it horrible, I would call it not deep. There are a few at the top (McMillan, Burden, Bond, Harris, Egbuka) that are pretty good, especially McMillan and Burden. You are correct that it isn't anywhere near as good as 2024. I would also say the same thing about TE and QB. Only the RBs and very few WRs, and only 2 TEs interest me in this draft. None of the QBs interest me either.

Just go after Tee Higgins and be done with it.

Lotta teams gonna be after Tee.

I think it's an extreme longshot to expect to beat Baltimore in Baltimore on a short week without Pickens and with Watt dinged up. Might be without Jackson too.

Winning homes games against KC with Mahomes on a bad ankle and Cincinnati wins the division too. I think that's a far more likely scenario and I hope going hard after an unlikely win this week doesn't mess up their chances the next two.

The only QB I liked just announced he is going back to Penn State (Allar).

The injury situation does not look good but you gotta play this week anyway.

These two teams always seem to play tight games no matter where the game is played or who is injured.

I believe the Ravens are a 6.5 pt favorite and if I were a betting man I wouldn’t touch this game.

Wednesday’s injury report not great. Watt was limited so there’s that.

No. 2 QB Justin Fields (Abdominal) - DNP
No. 6 LB Patrick Queen (NIR - Resting Vet) - Full
No. 14 WR George Pickens (Hamstring) - DNP
No. 25 S DeShon Elliott (Hamstring) - DNP
No. 26 CB Donte Jackson (Back) - DNP
No. 50 LB Elandon Roberts (NIR - Resting Vet) - DNP
No. 90 LB T.J. Watt (Ankle) - Limited
No. 97 DT Cameron Heyward (NIR - Resting Vet) - DNP
No. 99 DT Larry Ogunjobi (Groin) - Limited

That’s gross. Injuries are always the story with this team late in the season.

Mahomes was a full participant yesterday so I wouldn’t count on him being gimpy on Christmas Day.

Gun to my head, I take the Ravens and lay the points. I dont think

Truth is, I like our chances vs KC at home with a healthy Mahomes more than on the road this week in Baltimore given our injuries.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Steelers win this weekend, but I won't be surprised at all if they win at home on XMas day vs KC if they're healthy enough going into the game.

Watt is expected to play vs Ravens but Pickens has been ruled out. Along with Pickens, backup quarterback Justin Fields (abdominal) is also out for Saturday's game. Safety DeShon Elliott (hamstring) is doubtful, while cornerback Donte Jackson (back) and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (groin) are questionable. Elliott, Jackson and Ogunjobi were limited practice participants on Thursday.

So is Roman Wilson a head case? Did he really have a season long hamstring injury. That whole situation just seems odd & not much was ever said that I know of. Seems like a waste of a 3rd round pick.

Pretenders.

The Wilson fumble at the 2 was unforgivable, imo. Youve been playing how long? Dont switch arms or put both hands on the ball? Nah, bruh. You know better.

Don't care how many injuries they're nursing. This defense cant consistently get stops when it has to, even when theyre at 100%. And then when they finally get a play from Fitzpatrick, the offense found a way to boner it up again anyway. Pathetic.

Almost a dead nuts lock to be on a three game losing streak come the 26th. Only thing that may save them there is "math", since i dont see KC going 16-1... but I doubt this team can hang a second L on them.

First round playoff exit incoming.

This team isn't beating KC & probably not Cincy. Another late season collapse, what else is new.

Best shot at winning a playoff game is getting the 5 seed. At this point, that’s what I’m rooting for. That would require 1 win out of the next 2 games.

Eh. In this three game stretch, I always thought the KC game was most winnable. Philly is a true contender. Balt in Baltimore is always rough. It’s certainly not a cakewalk going forward though and you could be right.

They HAVE to get healthy. Without Pickens they have no play makers. Porter banged up. Jackson and Larry O out.

I still think they can beat anyone but lack the depth and playmakers to go on an extended playoff run.

I agree with most of the prior posts (especially the gravity of the Wilson fumble) but want to emphasize that I think the KC game on Wednesday is the most winnable of the three monster matchups. Question: Does a win against KC still keep the door open to win the division if the Steelers beat the Bengals in week 18? A 3-seed and a home playoff game in the first round--I'd take it. Going on the road, even against Houston, is a coin toss at best.

If the Steelers win the next 2 games, they clinch the division. It’s not happening.

You get what you pay for

He only needed to stay straight/right. Not sure why he veered to the left there.
Yep. I wasn't trying to be a jerk. It's just Wilson did similar things with the football last year. Just gets loose sometimes with the football on scrambles. It's in his DNA. Also the high sack count

Stonewalker Steelers are paying RW 1.21 million. One of the best bargains in the NFL. RW is leaps and bounds better than Kenny Pickett. But if you want your team to go and win the Superbowl I just don't see RW doing it with this team or in the upcoming years.

Kansas City might be the most winnable game per say. But be prepared for a close game and at the end have your heart ripped out.

Diontae Johnson can be claimed Monday at 4PM ET.

I am not sure the Steelers can actually claim Johnson. He may have to clear waivers, but at this point it seems hard to believe he would get past Houston

I see "awful coaching" in the topic header and think PIT fans really don't know what awful coaching is since they have never really experienced it since before their grandpa.
Tomlin made several blunders yesterday but going for it on a 4th and 6 midfield when you’re only down by 7 and have tge entire 4th quarter was awful.

To further support Godsbrother

Steelers' Mike Tomlin makes a confession about poor coaching after Eagles loss

I'd be willing to wager there is a lower than zero percent chance the Steelers would even consider bringing back Diontae Johnson, even if they could.

Yes. My original remark was right along these lines.

The Steelers got Wilson off the bargain rack at JC Penney. But he was on the bargain rack for a reason.

Steelers getting great value, but fans expecting him to be anything more than what he is at that age is pretty unrealistic.

He's gonna fumble. He's gonna get sacked. He's gonna throw a good moonball. And he's going to check down a ton.

I see several mentions of my thoughts and let me make this clear: I love Mike Tomlin. I think he's a great head coach. I have watched Steeler football ever since the days before Terry Bradshaw ans his *** stats with Chuck Noll and Tomlin still carries a Steeler football tradition that IMO is a gold standard in the NFL that has a product that is always consistent despite the market going nuts, changes in the game, and IMO is one of the most stable franchises that has always been one of my favorite teams.

I have watched decades of Steeler football because even back in the 70's they were always on TV lulz. To now where Terry Bradshaw needs to get off TV.

Assume the Netflix game won't have Tom Brady doing the play by play commentary. Think it's been 3 weeks in a row. I did think it funny when Brady said he wants to see more Jaylen Warren. Give voice to what the fans have been wanting for years. In a high scoring game script, we should see plenty of Warren.

Mahomes has been hit much more this season. Seems like the D should get a ton of pressure tomorrow. Otherwise we might get a repeat of last time he came to tahn.

The only time Patrick Mahomes played the Steelers in Pittsburgh, he was, uh…good. Embarrassingly good, in fact. He went 23-of-26 for 326 yards and six touchdowns to zero interceptions, taking just one sack. The home team made it interesting, but not interesting enough, losing 42-37. source

Things are evening out after racking wins early in the season, as many of us figured was going to be the case. These last 3 games against vastly superior opponents feels about right, they are like the 4th-5th best team in the conference (KC, Buff, Ravens easily better than them not even close, Steelers probably in tier with Texans and Chargers).

Just hope for a 2005esque run as the road team in the playoffs. I don't see it with the way the team is playing, but stop the red zone turnovers and actually fall on a fumble or 2 and see what can happen.

If I recall, That 2005 team was playing great to close out the season. They also had a very talented young QB and a good defense. I don’t see any similarities to this team. Betting on the Steelers to win a Super Bowl would be like betting on Houston to win one at this point. Team is a disaster.

Not seeing this as a real possibility, myself. The '05 team had a burgeoning HOF quarterback who took a large leap foward. This team has the ghost of Russell Wilson manning the controls, and he has been regressing for a month.

Sad to say they've pretty much proven themselves to be exactly what I feared when Artie was hired. They've "dinosaur ball'd" just well enough to eke out double digit wins and partially disguise the fact they arent a real threat to any team with a better than decent QB.

They won't be drafting high enough for the difference maker they really need at QB, but they arent committed to any signal caller past Feb 2025 right now and the upcoming FA crop stinks. Practically guarantees another couple years minimum of Tomlin riding the "Artie offense/overrated defense" train, IMO (I fully anticipate its going to wind up beingRuss as their QB).

Not even going to start on the defense. I'll be here until next Christmas.

Same thing as the past 10 years or so. Everyone is so blinded by tomlin's ".500 record " that they refuse to see the failures and mediocrity and I will never understand it. I will wait for the "well who will you get to replace him" pundits. Plenty of mediocre word spewers out there which is all he is at this point. At least maybe they could finish bad enough to get a decent QB & move forward.

Being a Steelers fan is tough. Over the years, the constant reminders of "the standard is the standard," "football justice for (name the player)," and the fact that the Steelers haven't had a losing season in 18 years are like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

Russell Wilson hasn't had a good game since facing the Bengals' horrid defense. He took a total of five sacks and held onto the ball too long in today's game. This year's defense, which initially looked to be a lot better, has been shredded at times. I really hope they beat the Bengals next week and face and beat the Texans in the first round of the playoffs, but I'm not expecting much beyond that.

The Steelers have been middling for too long now. The once-mighty franchise, known for its dominance and toughness, has struggled to find consistency in recent years. Fans like me are tired of the same old excuses and underwhelming performances. It's time for a change, whether it's a shake-up in the coaching staff or a bold move in the draft. Steelers Nation deserves better, and we need to see our team return to its former glory.
