*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: one and done again. (12 Viewers)

You guys may not have heard this but I live in Philly area and the big story this week is Brandon Graham purposely leaking out to the media that Hurts and AJ Brown have major issues with each other . That’s all the media is talking about. Could be a big enough distraction that gives us an edge to win. Or it could be a motivational ploy that results in the Eagles demolishing us.

:hi:

I live in Philly too. I don't think the Eagles are as good as their record and that if we can slow down 26 enough that Hurts need relied upon, this becomes very winnable. I like Hurts, but he is prone to turning the ball over.

Interesting, I think this might be the best Eagles team I've seen. If not, certainly on par with the 2022 and 2004 Super Bowl teams. Way better than the 2017 Super Bowl championship team. This Eagles team reminds me of that Bill Cowher 2005 Steelers team, control the clock with the run game, play great defense, make timely throws.

Everyone wants to talk about stopping the offense, but to beat the Eagles, you have to score on them too. I'd say mid 20s PIT wants to win this game. That's why, not turning the ball over is so important for Philly this week, they don't want to give PIT any easy points, make them earn everything.

Yeah this is a very good and balanced Eagles team. I’ve been living in the area since 2006 and cannot recall an Eagles team this balanced. They have the perfect blueprint to win it all (barring a significant injury of course). The Steelers can afford to lose this game (they’re not playing for the 1 seed with KC rolling). Philly cannot afford to lose. That crowd and team is going to be fired up. I don’t see the Eagles losing.

Welp injuries piling up before the big game. I say keep them out and let them (hopefully) recover for Baltimore. A loss this week isn’t that big of a deal. Just can’t afford to have another injury. I dream of a year when we are actually fully healthy but I guess that’s probably unlikely for most teams.

Pickens officially out. Let’s see if this team can win on grit. I hope the Eagles move away from their identity and try to force the ball into Brown. Turnovers are our best shot to beat them. If Jalen passes a lot, we have the guns to put pressure on him and potentially cause mistakes. If the Eagles stick to their blueprint, we have less than a 1% shot.

Somehow so many of the genius sports hosts and fans here are suggesting the Eagles need to throw it a lot more. They apparently can’t win a Super Bowl unless Brown is lighting it up.

Be careful what you ask for. Not that it's going to happen again. But last time they played AJ went 5-156-3 TDs

Again I hope the Eagles go pass heavy. That’s not their game. Last time was a couple years ago so things have changed. We have 3 key players out. I think their only key injury is Goddert. I would be more surprised with a Steelers win than I would be with an Eagles blowout win.

It is sounding like Pickens is going to miss the Eagles game.

It is imperative to have Pickens dolwn the stretch and playoffs. The Steelers should take no chances and rest him
He is unfortunately a player we cannot live without if we are going to win at the next level

Casey, TJ, Minkah, Najee (yes) and Russel as well.

But we have a chance. It’s been a while since we said that.

With a healthy team we have everyone’s attention.

I’ll be shocked if they switch up what they’ve been doing. The Eagles defense since getting Cooper after the bye is allowing like 15 ppg. They don’t need to sling it 40 times a game and hope they put up 40 points. Ball control, no turnovers, heavy runs in the fourth quarter. That’s what wins with this defense. If they start forcing Jalen to feed AJ he will throw picks and we’ll lose and I’ll throw my phone through my tv.

Anyone watching hard knocks in season? It's pretty good now I know why people like playing for Tomlin
Yes, and Tomlin comes off as a very good motivator of players. But I feel he lacks as a tactician and that's why he only has 1 Superbowl win in which he was gifted with Cowher's players.

I am so tired of this ridiculous played out old argument. First it isn't college. There is no such things as Cowher's players. Second there have been 14 coaches in history with multiple Superbowl wins. 5 with more than 2. This isn't a standard anyone needs to be held to. He does have some issues, but this argument needs to be retired.

Mike Tomlin inherited a Super Bowl contender. I'm just stating facts he hasn't won a Super Bowl since 2008 his second year as head coach. Hasn't won a playoff game in quite some time. I can personally feel that he's a great player motivator lacking as a tactician. In another organization the GM might have moved on from him. We can agree to disagree :)

Watt suffered a low ankle injury. Not sure if he plays next week but doesn’t sound too bad.

The timing sucks though cause this is the game for the division

It’s simple. We either beat the Ravens next week or we beat the Chiefs (potentially no Mahomes) and Bengals (probably nothing to play for at that point). Either of those happen and we win the division.

I don’t think we would have beaten this Eagles team at full strength. We had no chance at all with alol the injuries. It was still a valiant effort and if not for the Najee fumble, who knows?

This is still a great feeling to be in the playoffs with 3 games left. Just need to be healthy going into the playoffs and I still feel this team could do some damage in the AFC.

I will say this: I can't Fox having the same broadcast booth duo for two Steelers games in a row. Maybe one of the lesser-known teams will be in Baltimore while Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady go to Seattle for that game.

I have to say that watching the game with Eagles fans was painful. These fans are insufferable with their constant whining about the refs. They went crazy over the helmet to helmet (which is absolutely the correct call) and the pick play (again the right call). Then when they were gifted by not having an offsetting call on Mitchell, it was crickets lol. Never again!

Having only 2 possessions in the second half is abysmal.

I am usually a Tomlin defender, but declining a holding penalty that would have made is 1st and 30 for a 2nd and 20 was a mistake, as was punting in Eagles territory.

But my god, did the refs do the Steelers dirty on somehow missing Mitchell punching Washington and then the unsportsman like conduct penalty that CLEARLY happened prior to the punt. The penalty on the FG looked suspect too, with it looking like Adams was blocked into the center, but that was closer.

I loved the fact that it looked like Darnell was trying to block him into the parking lot. The dude manhandled the smaller guy.

Most of the Eagles fans in the game thread were trying to defend the no call against Mitchell lol. It was hysterical.

But just to be clear, we were absolutely destroyed in that game and the refs did not determine the outcome. They’re a better team. Period.

Moving forward, just hoping we start to get some of these key players back (at least before the playoffs). Injuries are really starting to pile up and having to play 2 more tough games in the next week and a half isn’t going to help.

Justin Fields ended up with an abdomen injury. The big takeaway injury was TJ's. Justin was 4-2 and Russell is now 6-2. I'm not looking to debate whose better for the offense. Because long term I know who that is. Call me a jerk but all the Russell slobbering over has to subside. ;)

“Long term “ the answer is probably neither?

We were absolutely destroyed. But also robbed of potential points. That Najee fumble though -- UGH.

I think I would have declined the penalty, but the punt was an egregious call.

They need to draft a damn receiver next year. What they roll out there without Pickens is pathetic.
It is a horrible WR class. I was furious they didn't draft a WR this year, but I probably don't want them to reach for one next year
I wouldn't call it horrible, I would call it not deep. There are a few at the top (McMillan, Burden, Bond, Harris, Egbuka) that are pretty good, especially McMillan and Burden. You are correct that it isn't anywhere near as good as 2024. I would also say the same thing about TE and QB. Only the RBs and very few WRs, and only 2 TEs interest me in this draft. None of the QBs interest me either.

Basically. I fully expect they're going to extend Russ if they somehow manage to win a playoff game. They may even if they don't. It's clear Coach T loves him some #3. FWIW, I think he'd probably be stoked to keep both again...but there's just about zero way I see either guy being interested in that scenario long-term.

I think it's been pretty much proven at this point that Wilson makes the passing game more viable than Fields, as of Dec. 16, 2024 at least. The offense as a whole is still not very credible without Pickens, regardless of the QB, and that's a problem.

At Wilson's advanced age, you have to figure the party is over for him fairly soon regardless of how well he's "kept things on schedule" for Artie so far, and regardless of what they do/do not do in the playoffs. With Fields, he's been around long enough that I don't believe he's going to magically develop touch all of a sudden either, but as a pure athlete he can do some just duuumb things that not many other guys at the position can. Either guy could likely be a useful starting QB, if they intend to keep their current offensive system, for at least a couple of years beyond this one, but it's not like there isn't risk with each either.

"Long term" I'm pulling for them hiring a more innovative OC and somehow blackmailing Mike Brown into trading Joe Burrow to Pittsburgh. :nerd:

Bottom line: It's a ****ty draft class for QBs in '25, and the list of likely FA QBs isn't replete with upgrades either. One of these two guys is getting an extension with Pittsburgh, given how lousy the FA crop at QB is it's likely going to be a pretty big contract, and because of that whomever they choose to extend will be viewed as "the answer" at QB for at leat 3-4 years.

The Brown family is notoriously cheap. Although they paid Joe Burrow. Will be interesting if they are able to keep Higgins and Chase. Burrows mentioned getting involved and wanting them both back. At the demise of the defense. All O and no D.

They didn't

It was utter domination in the second half. I mean seriously 11 plays on offense, why even bother showing up after half time?

I agree.
