*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: one and done again. (2 Viewers)

I think Omar approaches his job like a kid playing a video game making all kinds of moves. Entertaining for sure.

Don't be surprised if the Bears trade Caleb to Washington. Then see how Justin performs with their improved offense. They could play this same game next year with Shedeur Sanders

Kenny went from possibly being the Steelers 2024 starter later in the season and full year 2025 Steelers starter to forever backup behind Hurts.

I was thinking a smart move for the Bears would be to keep Fields and draft Caleb and let him sit for a year, then hope Fields plays well enough to drive up the asking price. But....that means they have to exercise the 5th year option else he can walk for free.

Not to get off subject but here is what the NFL just told us about how they value the QB room we've been trotting out the last two years.

Pickett traded for a what amounts to a mid 4th. Mason on a one year deal with only $2.7m but can pick up another $170k for being active every week so let's call it $2.8. Trubisky on a two year deal they can exit out from after this season having only paid him $2.7.

In summary the NFL values the sorry QB room we've been putting out the last few years as worth about $5.5M and a mid 4th. The whole room.

As A Ravens fan I didn't mind the thought of Pickett being the Steelers qb for a couple more seasons but I gotta say one aspect of the club that I respect is the Tomlin ethos of This is a Volunteer Army, no prisoners allowed!. Screw Pickett and well done by the Steelers to pull the band aid off and just move on.

Hold ****…never thought this would happen. No one wanted Pickett to succeed more than I did, but he just wasn’t getting it done.

Would have been nice to keep Rudolph as a backup. Ryan Tannehill, come on down.

Great post

That may have worked in the past but the days of sitting a #1 pick like that are over.

Seriously if you told me that the Steelers would go into training camp without Kenny, Mason and Mitch. My first thought would be did I go to heaven or not. For it's been a hellish 2 years at the QB position except for the last few games this year. I'll always remember them playing Rudolph the Rednose reindeer song.

Pickett should of been traded to a Siberia team. Not the eagles. But it was probably the best offer on the table. Please don't tell me that diontae was more of a malcontent. Kenny is a quitter, baby, and holds the worsr ever completion to td ratio.

I don't mind the Steelers trading Pickett, but I still think they mismanaged him. They basically wasted a 1st on him and never really gave him a full season, and when he did start, he was coached by the worst Offensive Coordinator in the league.

That said, the Steelers are really setting them self up for problems next off season at the QB position.

Honestly, I don't see it this way. Or rather, I think they were already "set up for problems next off season" at the QB position anyway.

Pickett/Rudolph were never the long-term answer. Whatever they did this year (save trading for a Fields or paying a king's ransom to trade up for a pick to take another shot at a rookie) was just going to be a bridge to 2025 anyway....where they were likely to draft another QB after sucking.

Will certainly be interesting to see what they intend to do now for a #2. Now I'm back to expecting my "Tannehill dream" to come true. :cautious:

Pick Player Pos College
1:20 Jackson Powers-Johnson IOL Oregon
2:19 T'Vondre Sweat DL Texas
3:20 Johnny Wilson WR Florida State
3:33 Christian Jones OT Texas
4:19 Ben Sinnott TE Kansas St.
6:2 Elijah Jones CB Boston College
6:19 Malik Mustapha SS Wake Forest

Tossing out a mock after picking up 3:33 from Philly.
1:20 JPJ in the first makes too much sense. Considered WR Brian Thomas and CB Wiggins all fantastic options.
2:19 T'Vondre Sweat could be the long term solution for Cam. Just too good to pass up. WR, CB and OT bigger needs but Sweat is easily BPA.
3:20 feels late to take a WR with very little in the stable. Chose Johnny Wilson because he runs good routes working the middle and monstrous size. If he is a willing blocker, can be a difference maker in the run game. Felt guilty taking him over Rice.
3:33 Jones has a shot to develop into a starter.
4:19 Ben Sinnott is a perfect fit for the new offense. Can line up in the backfield, inline and out wide. Good hands and great for the run game.

Well, THERE'S something I didn't expect to see when I got back to my desk from lunch.

Khan showing the grapes.
You can honestly say the team is worst right now then they are at the end of last year.. They had holes, but you can no add QB and Wr to the list.

Probably, but they don't start playing games tomorrow though.

I also thought they weren't as "good" of a team as their record last year anyway, so being "worse" than they were at the end of the year isn't that damning to me.

worst Offensive Coordinator in the league.
In no way confuse this with me defending him but as I pointed out in earlier post the league is showing us what they think of the QB's he was saddled with working with. Was curious what he was thinking and actually found this live shot of him when he found out Pickett, the last remaining QB he had to work with that remained, got traded.

Canada finding out Steeler's traded away Pickett

So what are they going to di? The FA cupboard is bear, even if they draft a 32+ year old vet to a 1 year deal, you still have to face next year you have no QB's cause both will be FA..

Draft a QB? I mean that worked out so well last time.

I appreciate that Omar isn't putting up BS, but he also seemed to have no plan and all this came after they let Mason walk.

Aside from depth, they're probably even money at QB than where they were a month ago. And that's with ONLY Russ rostered. I'm only partially kidding. I think.

Big upgrade a ILB, big upgrade at P. Worse at WR for the time being. Chalk at RB. Chalk at TE. Chalk at DL. Chalk at OLB. Chalk at PK. Slight dip along the OL, due to depth more than the "quality lost" in cuts. Probably a small step back at DB.

Depth is certainly an issue as of 2:04 PST on 3/15/2024, team wide. They may be "worse", but it's not an insurmountable hill to get back to "even" or "better", from where I'm sitting.

So, so happy that they admitted their mistake with Pickett and moved on. Guy just doesn't have it. No matter what shakes out, that was the right move and I'm glad they had the balls to do it.

It's day three of free agency.

Trading Pickett away doesn't cause any new problems for next year at the QB position.

He's a sunk cost that we fortunately didn't invest any more time and resources into.

We'll sign a vet backup like Tannehill and throw a dart at a rookie QB this year and re-evaluate after the season.

actually as the FA market gets bearer and bearer, it does become more and more of a insurmountable hill to climb. They aren't drafting in the top 10, so the likes they are going to get a knockout skill position player is unlikely.

Right now, they have George Pickens and Calvin Auston as their WR, and only Wilson as their QB.

Like I said, I am not saying it's bad they traded Kenny, but I would have felt better if they kept Mason or had another QB on the roster.

How did this go sideways? Mike Tomlin had promised Kenny Pickett he’d get a chance to compete. Pickett learned about the Russell Wilson signing on social media Sunday night. When they spoke the next morning, Tomlin told Pickett that Wilson was in pole position and would get the first reps. So, Pickett asked for a trade. Now he’s an Eagle.

Cause Kenny is much more likely to beat out Jalen Hurts as a starter, lol
