2025-26 NBA Thread: Chris Paul retires after having to play with Clippers again (14 Viewers)

The Dubs will probably try to bring CP back
Teams like Minnesota and Houston that could use another PG should be interested too.
Why? He's beyond washed and I'm guessing wasn't being awesome in the locker room for the Clippers to have wanted to cut bait.
I was thinking only as a bench guy filling out the back of the rotation for teams that need another ballhandler. Although I definitely don’t want him on the Lakers.

Kings could use another old guard, right?

The average age of the Clippers roster (before discarding Chris Paul) was 33.2 years. My heavens

I thought the Warriors were old (because they are), but this seems like gross incompetence/negligence, or just a snow job. Knowing this one stat there was no way they'd be competitive or even average this year (and even more so next). I'm all for a good train wreck but it's starting to feel like too much.

Maybe there's a German word for when schadenfreude has reached its limit and one must divert one's gaze out of discomfort at the humiliating destitution. God speed, Clips

nyk make sense. 10-15 minutes behind brunson.

I haven't seen Paul play this year, but he looked completely washed last season with the Spurs. I wouldn't want him playing any minutes for my team. This isn't a shot at Paul either. Father time never loses, he should just hang it up.

I don't think he looked completely washed last year, just more of a reliable 20 mpg backup type that was probably catching more minutes than he should on a competitive team. I would take him on the Nuggets, assuming he is okay not playing too much as he would be the 10th man.

Sounds like Giannis and his agent have soft-launched a trade request (again).
Knicks gotta be kicking themselves for going all in for Mikal ****ing Bridges
It seems like all these apron strapped teams are sort of in 1 for 1 mode anyway in terms of matching salary. Basically (I think if I hearing this right while half listening while driving) it has to be KAT for Giannis (or LeBron or Davis). It's why the Spurs (or Atlanta) seem the much more natural landing spot for him as they should be able to absorb $$ and only give one player back.

(and I probably have this all wrong).

I sort of feel guilty about this Clippers situation and the picks that are going to go to OKC. NBA might need to adopt loans, Thunder can have a loan army like Chelsea.

An emphatic NOPE! to any discussions involving Harper and Giannis.

Atlanta makes the most sense. Don't make me interpret future pick jargon, but I think Milwaukee can come out of this with two solid shots at a top 4 pick next year, and that's as good as it's going to get. If Giannis says no, the alternative could be worse. I don't have a strong enough imagination to engineer a deal that lands Giannis on the Knicks, if that's what he wants.

KAT plus just about anyone works according to spotrac. I’m just talking in terms of making the salaries match and all that.
Yeah, all of the discourse I've heard involves "Giannis pairing up with Brunson", not becoming part of some trio with KAT & Brunson.

i hate that anteater is probably on the way out but i will always love him and remember him as an all time great and one of the best bucks ever and i hope he goes to san antonio or golden state where he can play with great coaches and take it to the bank for a few more rings take that to the bank brochachos

I don’t pay any attention to trades, draft picks, contracts or anything else but if Atlanta could turn Trae and say Okongwu and other stuff in to Giannis that would be swell.

Bucks won't want KAT and the Knicks don't have the picks to send out. No way he goes there.

Third team, plus I think New York is the first choice for Giannis and the Bucks might try to make him happy.
There is a pretty big gap between the values of Giannis and KAT. Even if they find this third team, I'm skeptical they can piece together enough assets to get this to work. San Antonio makes so much more sense trade-wise. They have the picks and young players needed.

In terms of basketball obviously, but the actual contracts are really close. Just in terms of making a trade work it’s not hard with the Knicks at all.

I was under the impression Giannis gets to pick where he wants to go and the Bucks have to make the best of a bad situation. But if that’s not the case and it’s the best bid then yeah other teams can definitely put a good package together. Obviously the Thunder could put something really enticing together from a MIL perspective but that won’t happen.

NO THEY DON'T!

Sending Chris Paul home in the middle of his farewell tour is certainly a decision.
Yeah that’s crazy. One of the best in Clippers franchise history who was going to get his jersey retired one day and came there to retire a Clipper.

I’m guessing they’re going to trade him somewhere else after 12/15. Waiving him brings the team below the 14 player minimum and they don’t have enough room under their first apron cap to add another player yet (his salary is fully guaranteed).

Waiting to hear some of the reasons, but the way they treated Griffin and Paul at the end is not a great look for the franchise.
Something must have happened, right? Some disagreement?
Shams now saying Paul’s leadership style of calling everyone out was too disruptive. Supposedly he and Ty Lue weren’t on speaking terms for “several weeks”.
Yep, I am guessing the Clippers at large didn't like the idea of the washed up veteran trying to tell everyone what to do, especially since his supposed leadership skills never lead any team to a title in his 39 years of playing in the NBA.

Not cherry picking at all, here are Harper's highlights last night, in which he was off his game for a good portion, but still turned in a solid effort. He thoroughly abused Antony Black too (and these highlights don't capture all of it). I think he's on a fast-path to being top-10 player. Once he and Wemby develop together with Castle and Fox ... Oh my, where's that Vince McMahon gif?

I guess they must have thought they were signing the other Chris Paul.

They have like five wins. I feel like someone should tell them they suck. Lots of good players don't win rings and it has nothing to do with leadership. I hate you for making me defend Chris Paul.

I am skeptical that Chris Paul is the only one in the building who recognizes that they have sucked.

KAT and OG for Giannis and Kuzma works...

Awful return for Giannis. KAT and his 61 million dollar player option in 27/28 is not a good contract for what he is

LeBron’s 10+ point streak ended tonight at 1,297 straight games. For reference, only 24 players in NBA history have played in at least 1,297 games.
Durant now has the longest active streak of 10+ points. He’d have to do that 82 games a season for 12 seasons to beat LeBron’s streak.

Sure sounds like he was the only one saying anything though.

It might be, but I have a weird feeling that the Bucks are going to let Giannis and his agent facilitate this trade.

I'm still hoping its just needing more time to get back into form after the sciatica, but its looked like rocking chair time for James since he started playing again.

Yeah his shot (and his defense) aren’t there yet. He’s been a solid playmaker so far though.

Yea that may be an unbeatable streak. Holy cow.
Doesn’t have the longest streak if you count playoffs.

Sorry, I shouldn't have quoted this particular post in my reply. I was trying to note that LeBron's streak was the longest counting only regular season games, Jordan still has the longest streak of 10+ games if you count postseason games.

The talk around old brew city and wisconsin including the morning show where the bucks stadium announcer works is that the Giannis talk is mostly ESPN trying to create a narrative to get him to a better ESPN network city. By all reports Giannis is happy and loves Milwaukee.
