2025-26 NBA Thread: NBA fan tries for 14th time to remember Peacock password (5 Viewers)

Any guesses as to how hard the NBA comes down on LAC and Kawhi if all this turns out to be as true and bad as it seems? Year suspension for Kawhi? Contract voided? LAC lose every imaginable 1st round pick for the next 7 years? Ballmer stripped of his ownership?
I personally think Clippers are guilty as hell and have a history of this kind of stuff at a smaller level (some of which has already been punished and/or investigated).

Based on Silver’s initial responses, my guess is the clippers get a relative slap on the wrist and that it happens after the all-star game. Clippers get fined $7.5m and lose 1-2 draft picks in the far future. Balmer and Wong get a couple months suspension starting next season.

Kawhi’s contract gets voided, but as Kev mentioned it happens after this season. This probably helps out the Clippers long term unless the league gets creative and makes them do a waive and stretch to give them a cap hit. His agent and Uncle Dennis get sanctioned and/or suspended.

Been following the Clippers for a long time as a local. Clipper games were easier to get into than the Lakers in the 80's and 90's.

The above is absolutely how I think of things here, too. This stinks for them.

Not sure if Kuminga is the answer, but a team like the Pistons, or any younger good team that needs a wing should try to sign him and trade some salary to do it. I feel like 25ish million for three or four years is a small risk.

Yeah, I’ve been a Lakers fan most of my life, but I’ve been to way more Clippers games than Lakers games over the years. Used to sneak down to the floor level back in the old LA Sports Arena when I was a kid and waited outside the locker rooms to get autographs after the games.

My Mom got me and my dad a 3 or 4 game "pack" for the Clippers for a couple of Christmases. I remember one year it also came with a pass to a "draft party" on the floor of the Sports Arena. I think it was the year they picked Bo Kimble. :coffee:

Not surprisingly, Kawhi didn't say much at his media day interview. For what it's worth, he did mentioned that he thought he was owed more than the $7 million listed on the bankruptcy schedule. How much he was actually paid remains a mystery.

I don’t think they can do anything to Kawhi other than void the contract with the Clippers under the CBA. The league office probably doesn’t have the stomach for a major fight with Ballmer, I doubt they are going to want to go to war with the players union on this.

Trying to imagine what the league would / could do if the Clippers went out and traded all their remaining draft picks for a player / players while the investigation is still ongoing.
They wouldn’t be bound by the Stepien rule in taking picks away.
But the Clippers could trade swap rights in the picks they do currently own to get stuff now and devalue their picks so the penalty would mean less.

True. Under the Stern regime that would have caused the commissioner's office to go nuclear, but like I said above it doesn't seem like Silver will have the backbone to enforce the rules here.

I too think its pretty clear they don't really truly want to do anything here. My guess is the only thing that really sets this apart from some of the other private equity side deals is that this wasn't PE because Ballmer is so rich and didn't paper over everything.

I would be incredibly surprised if this was even remotely common in the NBA. Most teams/owners are too cheap and the potential fallout could be huge. I'm sure there are some grey-area side dealing that happens but for relative peanuts, not backdoor payments.

The "they" in this case is a combination of Silver, an arbitrator, and the other 29 owners. It seems that there is a bit of a groundswell from the other owners that will require Silver to act, if the arbitrator finds sufficient evidence.

Regarding picks, I bet there has been some conversations between the league office and Clippers that if they are found to have circumvented the cap after the Clippers have made a trade with their current picks that the punishment will be much more severe. I also think, if the other owners are actually pissed, that there would be enough peer pressure not to assist the Clippers in a workaround like that to their ultimate punishment.

when did Kuminga get good? why is he such a hot commodity this offseason? hadn't Golden State been trying to move him and nobody wanted him before the last few months or did i imagine that?

hi, it's me a middle aged dad who watches about 5-6 NBA games in full per year, whose "local" team games are blacked out unless they are on national TV, that lives in a city absolutely dominated by an NFL team that's trying to hold on to whatever sports he has time to understand checking in with a question that may seem wildly off base to someone who follows the sport closely

While the vast majority of NBA off-season moves were completed by early July, a few restricted free agents remained unsigned throughout the summer. Kuminga was one of these.

Besides the Kawhi stuff that broke earlier this month, there wasn’t much else for NBA folks to talk about. This created a spotlight on Kuminga that was oversized.

lol I understand.

He’s not good. Anybody paying him will be paying for potential and hoping he can be better out of Golden State where some think he is miscast/misused.

Who says he’s a hot commodity?
i don't follow the NBA like that but when i dial up an NBA podcast or hear talk on the picture box it seems very focused on Kuminga

legitimate question
It's just something to talk about, honestly. He remains unsigned, and Golden State is an intriguing team, thus the chatter. He is not particularly good, although if he figures a few things out he could be a starter on a good team. He is still just 22 years old

This is why I only use free, pirated streaming services for the NBA. Tired of trying to pay and support the league only to have so many games blacked out.

the only "reliable" streaming site i know of, and used regularly for the last few years, has gone in the toilet this NFL season. buffering and dropping every couple of minutes, rendering games unwatchable.

tried it for golf, soccer and even boxing... sucks no matter what sport.

has me considering paying for Sunday Ticket to get the best out of market games. Until this season, i could just stream them flawlessly :hot:

I personally think a lot of the superstars are allowed (and allowed is the right term since you have to be invited) to invest alongside their owners in various PE or VC deals where the team owners are either PE/VC guys or getting good quality deal flow; in deals that are basically heads we win, tails we win a little less. It's one of the reasons I think Ballmer is sort of at a disadvantage these days since he doesn't really seem to have that apparatus (i.e. a large family office) at his disposal and had to rely on something like this to juice the package to Khawi.

One of the weird pieces of the Clippers thing that is so striking is how mom and pop Ballmer's investment process seems to be. If that's the case it's understandable why he was an easy mark, but its also much tougher to get money to superstars in other ways. It's sort of akin to the progression from steroids to peptides and other newer treatments. The way Ballmer (and Cuban for that matter) run their investments seem very 2000s (a lot of these singular rich older guys do).

It's also much much much harder to do anything about the PE/VC stuff since its the players money.

Color me extremely skeptical that anything about Ballmer's process is mom and pop shop stuff.

Honestly, I'm not sure he actually has a backbone.

Dude looks like a lizard or alien or something so I don't think he actually has one.

Ending a summerlong stalemate, restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga has agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million deal to return to the Golden State Warriors, agent Aaron Turner of Verus Basketball told ESPN on Tuesday.

The deal includes a team option in the second year that is designed for the Warriors -- or another team if and when Kuminga is traded during the upcoming season -- to rip up and complete a fresh new contract after the 2025-26 campaign, sources said.

Ahead of Wednesday's qualifying offer deadline, Kuminga chose the two-year deal over a proposal of three years and $75 million so he can maintain a higher level of control over his immediate Warriors future. The Warriors never wavered on their team option frameworks during negotiations. Now, both sides understand the likelihood of exploring trades when Kuminga is eligible to be moved in mid-January. As part of the deal, he is waiving his inherent no-trade clause.

I guess it’s his best option because if it comes to it, he probably would get opted in order to be traded after the season, so he “guarantees” more money while limiting how long he has to be in GS

The last (I think) of the RFAs is signed. Quentin Grimes signed the qualifying offer, so he will be an UFA next season and has a no trade clause for this one. Sounds like the Sixers offer wasn’t much higher than the QO, so it wasn’t a big drop for Grimes to take this.

Yeah, the reported offer was 4/39 and supposedly the agent wanted close to $25 million per year so the sixers didn’t even bother negotiating. And it seems like the Sixers are not bothered by him playing in the QO and they think it won’t be an issue to re-sign him next offseason if they want to. He was good during the garbage time of the season but they have 3 good guards and seems like his other teams haven’t really liked him too much so

I'm starting to think this FVV injury could be a blessing forcing Ime's hand to start Reed and explore different lineups. I'm really excited to see Ime go large with these lineups (sans Reed)

Starting: Reed, Amen, KD, Sengun, Adams
Bench: Jabari, Tari, DFS, Capella

I’m an outsider but it seems hard to believe there aren’t some hard feelings over this. He’ll be looking for the most money and a larger role as an unrestricted free agent. Although it’s possible he could re-sign, Sixers seem to have bigger needs than guard depth to spend money on in the future.

There is certainly a school of thought that says that. I think the sixers just don’t want to get encumbered with anything else beyond this season plus they don’t want to go into the first apron this year

Maybe both are true. And he should help them this year.

Warriors sign Horford and Seth Curry, a re they trying to challenge the Clippers record for oldest team in the league?

Tomorrow is Amazon Prime day. He’s done commercials for them before.
Meanwhile, because people are what they are, ticket prices for the last Lakers home game of the season have surged from $80 minimum to over $500 based on this more than likely marketing tease.

I try to like, or at least tolerate the guy because of the the immense talent and what he's accomplished but good lord, it's just not possible.

You can’t name one actual bad thing he’s ever done.

There was that time he flashed his LeJohnson during the NBA finals. Never forget.
