2025-26 NBA Thread: Pelicans fan dismayed team not involved in gambling scandal, they are just actually this bad (5 Viewers)

I was trying to figure out how to get Ja to the Bucks but nothing seemed workable plus I don’t think the Bucks could offer significant draft capital.

Reactions: SWC
Memphis has decided to suspend Ja for a game, conduct detrimental to the team
After leading by 14 at the half, Ja stopped going to the rim and went 0-6 from three (3-14 overall), like he was trying to show up a coach or someone else who said something at halftime. Like quiet quitting loudly I guess.

Shams reported that 1st year head coach Iisalo challenged Morant's leadership and effort after the game, leading to Morant's "ask the coaching staff" response after being asked what went wrong afterwards. This after getting Iisalo's predecessor fired last year.

Remember how he got suspended for the gun stuff and then responded to his 1 week suspension (or whatever it was) by doing it again? That's when he was on MVP ballots and Memphis was one of the best young teams in the League. That isn't the case any longer, largely due to his own actions, which makes this latest disgruntlement tantrum even more egregious, and frankly, bizarre. It reminds me of Mike Wallace and the Steelers. If I'm a good or rebuilding team I want nothing to do with this guy. Kings and Pelicans, sure, knock yourself out.

I'm a Warriors fan but had a ton of respect for him and the exciting, ****-talking Grizzlies back in 2022-23. All you can do is shake your head. I can't imagine what it must be like for Grizzlies fans and employees. I'm sure he'll still have a large contingent of fans and supporters in Memphis, which makes me wonder what, exactly, they're rooting for.

So who is gonna trade for Ja? He is done in Memphis

To the Pelicans for Zion.

To the Kings (plus salary filler) for LaVine.

I can definitely see him fitting nicely in Houston 🙏
What's the offer? Seem like they'd have to include VanVleet for salary matching reasons but I think he has the right to veto? Plus with his age, his player option next year and coming off of injury, I don't think Memphis would be interested. Rockets are hard-capped too which complicates things even more.

This would have to be a midseason trade but I can see them working something out with all the young talent and picks they have (plus FVV).

Assuming Morant gets traded the Grizzlies need to blow it up. I don't want the Pistons to go after Morant, but give me JJJ to the Pistons.

Pistons give Jalen Duran, Ausur Thompson and Tobias Harris plus a pick

Grizzlies give JJJ and Brandon Clarke and whatever player they want to throw that is around 5.5 million dollars.

Ayton has the worst hands I've seen on an NBA player in a long time.
Heck no. Rudy Gobert has the worst hands.

My 15-yr old daughter could strip the ball from him. I've never seen a guy so big lose so many balls in traffic. He looks like he is playing with seal flippers instead of human hands.
Who was that center that the Lakers had back about 15-20 years ago that was supposed to be a major stud... but had the absolute tiniest hands? I'm sure I could Googlez...
Kwame Brown?
Oh hmm, maybe it was Brown, not Bynum. Good call.

FVV has an implied no-trade clause. He isn't going anywhere.

So you're telling me there's a chance

Myles Turner got booed in his return to Indy. Fans believe he left them for the Bucks without giving the Pacers a chance to match the offer. It makes fans think they were dumped. People don't like that feeling.

I'm not someone who boos ever, but he has to know that's coming.

Soon to be 37 year old Westbrook goes 26-12-6 for the up and coming Kings.

I read reports Morant would have limited trade market. Sacramento is desperate enough.
It's rough to have to worry about character issues with the face of your franchise. I could understand the Kings doing it but there would be a sizable risk of it backfiring.
Kings would have nothing to lose unless they traded a bunch of unprotected picks.

Memphis homers are pretty optimistic they'll smooth it out. He's got a giant Grizzlies logo tattooed on his back. We'll see.

Do you think Vivek would consider it?

Zach Lowe pitched a Lavine for Morant deal (can't remember if there were other minor pieces) yesterday and I certainly think they'd do that.

Memphis would have to add salary. Brandon Clarke would work.

It actually works straight up (if the Spotrac trade machine that I use is right). Memphis can take on more salary in a trade.

You're right! They have the luxury tax space too although they might not want the higher payroll this season. Although they would be saving in the long run.

Brutal collapse for the Sixers last night. They could not hit anything in the 4th at all -- just went cold from everywhere. They were slowing it down too much and playing 2-man with Embiid who took some bad shots or missed shots he normally makes. Not sure how PG is going to fit in if he ever comes back.

bangos came out hitting threes last night but the problem was that the ripped pants raptors were hitting even more of them man the first five or six minute of that game was nuts shooting wise but the bucks looked tired after the indiana last second win take that to the bank bromigos

Will Embiid ever get his mobility back?

Regarding a possible Ja Morant trade, Sam Amick of The Athletic reports in his article today that Minnesota and Sacramento are "monitoring his situation". Houston is unlikely to pursue him.

There's no way the Wolves could do this without completely tanking their team.
I have a hard time seeing what the Grizzlies would want from them too. If they are trading Ja, they are probably in blow it up mode. Same goes for Sacramento.

I think the teams that would make most sense are the teams in the east fighting for those 5-10 positions in the playoffs - Miami (although the nightlife might be a nonstarter with his reputation), Toronto, Orlando. The only team that makes a little bit of sense to me in the west would be Portland - they need a real PG (probably) and could offer something like Scoot, a couple firsts, and filler (Williams and Thybulle). That would offer Memphis some cap relief as well.

The article mentioned that due to poor attendance and arena issues, the Grizzlies may not want to do a lengthy rebuild.

Also, Miami has completely changed their offense and now is the fastest paced team in the league. That doesn’t seem to be what Ja wants. One of the teams still doing things the old way might be better. Portland would be a bad fit too.

Lakers Spurs is a foul fest. Hard game to watch even though its close.
Yeah it wasn’t pretty, but the Lakers played tough and came back in the 4th quarter.

This Lakers team is much deeper than I thought it would be. The offseason acquisitions of Ayton, Laravia, Smart, and even Smith Jr. are all paying off big time early in the season. When LeBron returns (reportedly within a week or so) they could be really special.

So Pablo has Bob Voulgaris on the pod today...made 8-10 million a year for 15-17 years (I'm guessing that's lowballed) gambling on the NBA (a large percentage of that was betting Jerry Sloan, Utah first half unders). Used Blitzarian (which makes a ton of sense in retrospect) as one of his beards. Bob thinks both the NBA and to a lesser extent the NFL are in trouble if they don't get away from a W-L based draft (lotteries) since you can't tell draft tanking from gambling tanking.

I googled that and got nowhere. Would love to hear more about this. Jerry Sloan being a large percentage is interesting. Were there any sort of implications with the Sloan angle? I'd guess hard no, and if there actually was anything, it's gotta be far, far underneath the NBA rug, but have to ask. Up to 200 million? What made him stop?

I know nothing about pro gamblers but that seems like a ton. Wow. And for such an extended period. How did he not get cut off? How much did it cost to run that kind of outfit, and how'd he keep it going, etc? Wild.

As he explained it, which half road teams have their defense in front of their bench really matters. This is a choice of the visiting team and some coaches would have predictable patterns. So Sloan's Jazz on the road would typically cause the 1st half to go under while the overall total would still go over.
