2025 College Football Thread: “Lane won’t do the same thing he’s done for 18 years to us!” LSU says to itself (34 Viewers)

My question on possession is once a runner has possession and bobbles it, do they actually have to establish a foot down when going through the end zone to regain possession? Maybe the fact that it was the end zone eliminates the need to get a foot down?

Refs seem to be on the OSU payroll. First the late Td call where he stopped ant the 1 td line and now a clear touchback “upheld” as a td. No excuse for not overturning it.

They also let a Michigan player stay in the game after headbutt and that last PI was 8 yards out of bounds. Just bad all around

Think they made the wrong call by the book, but I also think the rule of lost possession of a fumble through the end zone is one of the dumbest.
I struggle with it. On one hand, I actually like the punitive side so you can't just be reckless going into the endzone and a touchdown then is clearly a score (should be without question).

A touchback seems overly punitive, but I do think some form of punishment is appropriate. I'd be ok if it did something like push the ball back to the 20 or 30 yard line if you do that, but the offense retains possession. Not sure what you'd do with the down to make (like if it was 2nd and 10 and you did that, 3rd and 10 from the 20/30? But what about 2nd and 1 and do that? 3rd and....10? 1?). Keeps it within a FG-ish range, but does still punish the offense for reckless play.

Almost feels like if the Defender forces a fumble or a player just drops the ball showboating it should be a touch back. A play like we just had shouldn't be a touchdown or lose possession.

I know that you guys who are part of this rivalry don't get surprised by this game, but Im not sure I'll ever be able to wrap my head around how Michigan can consistently stay with OSU

Yep, truly shocking that the college football team with the most wins ever can make a rivalry game close.
Meh. Specific to this year, the talent diff plus the youth forced to play for Mich is a pretty steep hill to climb, but to their credit, they're doing it.

Where is that #15 for Mich? Just realized I haven't seen him.
Hausmann out is disappointing, wild turn of events from him. Bad timing for a spiritual awakening.
What does that mean? Something happen to him?
The story as i understand it is over the bye he went on a mission in Uganda(?). He was called by Jesus to dedicate his life to service and football no longer matters

Been following the story loosely. He was adopted as a child from Uganda. I hope he finds peace in whatever direction he chooses.

Absolutely. Life is bigger than football.

(Still wish the timing was different)
