2025 College Football Thread: “Lane won’t do the same thing he’s done for 18 years to us!” LSU says to itself (17 Viewers)

Here's who I would put in and seeding:

1. Ohio State
2. Georgia
3. Indiana
4. Texas Tech
5. Oregon
6. Ole Miss
7. Texas A&M (which I still think is overrated here but I guess one loss is one loss)
8. Oklahoma
9. Vanderbilt
10. Alabama or if Bama loses, Notre Dame, or if they both lose, Texas or Miami. If Bama wins SEC title they move up (they play in it if they win right?)
11. ACC Champ
12. G5 Champ

If I got to pick 11 and 12 and Bama and ND and Miami win any games they have left...it would just be whichever of those 3 wasn't 10. And if any of them lose I'd put Texas 12.

Utah and BYU are over ranked.

Bama wins sec and they get a bye nearly for sure right? There just isn't room for Texas with OU winning. So two teams they beat go and they don't.

Bama wins and six SEC teams in and Notre Dame left out?

Never, ever, ever should a 3 loss team be in a 12 team college playoff field. It should be an actual rule but since it is not, the committee should do the right thing.

USC is a very good football team. That's a good win.

They also didn't lose to Florida.

If we're ignoring current rules, this seems pretty reasonable, but the top 4 spots are conference champs. Can't have both OSU and Indy in there

USC’s top two receivers (Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane) on the bench for the first series. Rumored to be due to their unsportsmanlike conduct penalties last week.

They did. It’s just the top 4 teams, regardless of conference affiliation.

It is fair to note it might be unlikely to have both tOSU and IU there after they play next week, but it’d be if one falls out of the top 4, not because they’re both B1G teams.

Ok I thought I was crazy for a sec.

I mean chaos breaks free if Tech loses. I'm not sure OSU or Indiana falls out of the top 4 unless the game is a beat down.

Idk who you put in the top 4 if Georgia loses the SEC and OSU beats Indiana by like 21+ and Tech loses. It would be crazy. Maybe Oregon and SEC champ and Ole Miss or A&M jump up?

Who has Vanderbilt beaten? Especially compared to Texas?

Why ND over Miami? Miami won the H2H and beat both Pittsburgh and NC State by more than ND.

I think the top 4 is Ohio State, Indiana, SEC Champ, and Texas Tech. Oregon is probably #4 if Texas Tech loses.

No skin in all but one of the games we've watched but I gotta say, if you're not considering ref crews and favorable outcomes for conferences and such, you are definitely leaving a big part of the equation out of it. Sucks, but it's true. Actually doesn't suck if you're into gambling and do the homework (not me).

Those are good arguments. I just think ND is curb stomping teams. You could put Miami over them and I'm fine with it.

I'm just ranking who I think is better. Theyre rankings, not standings. If they're gonna be rankings and not standings then I don't give a **** who won a single game or who has an extra loss. I only care if it makes me think the team is better or worse.

I think that's silly. Standings would/will be better. Because wins and losses should really matter. But right now they only matter in as much as they make me think a team is better or worse.

Miami and ND have comparable common opponent victories outside of Syracuse. To just point to those two (Pitt calling a TO to score last play on ND backups too) is a bit misleading. They’ll have four common opponents after tonight when ND plays Stanford.

Miami and ND is going to come down to H2H vs two bad losses oversimplified.

I ran some math this morning and coming into today, ND needed to best Miami/Pitt difference in the 9-14 range to stay mathematically ahead of Miami in strength calcs across the season. That number is now closer to 19-24 points in tonight’s game. But that’s flat math vs human perception and the above will likely factor more in assuming nothing whacky happens tonight.

Christ we are going to get Duke in the ACC Championship game. Watch them win it and the ACC misses the playoffs.
Ironically, it might help Miami get in if that happened.
I’m wrong. Forgot it was five forced champs, so I get it now - AAC champ and a G5 might make it. Holy heck that’d cause chaos to explode the model.

Imagine if a team like Texas is out but North Texas is in. Sark will lose his mind.

USC/UCLA the best uniformed rivalry game in college football.
I don’t know why we don’t see more of this, especially in certain rivalries.

The only other one I’d point to doing this is Army/Navy. Different uniforms annually, but the uni vs uni as a cherry on top each year is a nice touch for both games.

As far as I understand things if Duke wins they make the playoff.

ACC should’ve made CFP rankings the first tiebreaker but hey, not the first mistake they’ve made.
Top 5 conference champions. They would have to be ranked ahead of Tulane/North Texas winner or James Madison.
