2025 College Football Thread: Lane Kiffin suddenly feels compelled to read morals clause of contract (62 Viewers)

Queation: Do you want more or less transparency from the committee moving forward?

My vote is for less.
I think less is better. It seems better the way that they do with basketball where don’t know much going into Selection Sunday besides general speculation around the bubble teams. I think outcry from ND fans would have been less if they just thought of themselves as the bubble team that they were going into the final weekend, and did not have knowledge of the flip with Miami then.
Yes, the complaint was largely in for weeks saying that ND was ahead of Alabama and Miami. Then flipping Alabama with ND when Alabama struggled against a not very good Auburn team because "of guts on 4th down" and then again with Miami at the very end. Because of the head to head, I can understand losing out to Miami. The Alabama thing was clearly prejudice for SEC and perhaps a gift to Sankey.

I think the "transparency" only served to show how broken the committee is which is why my answer was about fixing the entire process.

NIL was meant for a player to earn some $$$. Hey Saturday morning will you come to my car dealership and sign some pictures for a couple hours for a grand. Things they can make money.
Says who? The players should have a cut of the pie like all the pro sports have. Ridiculous that these schools make this kind of money and a QB gets a grand for some autograph signings.

4 years of a full ride can be valued at 100 to160K. That is a slice of the pie.

Playing a college sport is a choice, not mandatory. But you are correct in a way as it is now pro, not college anymore.
There is no other legit route to the NFL but through CFB. If your goal is to play in the NFL, its really not a choice.
Wild to me that the NFL shirks all responsibility here.

It’s a symbiotic sham. The NFL draft rules essentially guarantee they get a fresh batch of players each year who have at least three years of high level training at no cost to the NFL teams. The NCAA, until recently, gets a captive labor force for its multibillion dollar industry with no labor cost. I would think the top college programs may now look to the NFL to help fund their rising costs.

The committee's mental gymnastics throughout the process was all over the place but that flip was setup a week in advance if BYU lost. Yurachek had been saying all along the H2H would matter if they were in the same tier, or close to each, or back to back. Once they got back to back they finally made the flip.
We had even talked about Alabama sliding between them so they didnt have to make the decision. Of course, this approach negated the "in the same tier" shtick they started with. Clearly, they were viewed as similar enough to be in the same tier, but previous votes didnt reflect that for whatever reason.

Im pretty sure if one were to dig up past posts around when NIL was 1st being talked about, the posts would go something like:
"They're getting a free education"
"Just stop the bag men"
"My kids would kill for a free ride"
Etc etc etc.

No its flipped. "They should get a piece of the pie", "they've been exploited for years", "its about time they got paid".

Getting the grand prize "free ride" used to be the goal, the dream, its what players strived for. Now what? There's nothing to strive for. Give me what im owed is all I hear. At this point, blow it up and make a minor league system already. Turn college back into College, no outrageous salaries or NIL and let the dudes just go play AAA ball.

There was a point where what you remember from the past made sense. When the conferences and NCAA turned it into a billion dollar business is where the narrative for the players began to change and rightfully so IMO.

Mendoza is a worthy winner. Seeing that redzone 22 TDs 0 Ints is an impressive stat.

Curious to see how close the whole vote was. There was no stat monster this year so I don’t think it should be a runaway award.

This is also the first Heisman winner ever for a year ending in a “5” to not be a RB.

2015 - Derrick Henry
2005 - Reggie Bush
1995 - Eddie George
1985 - Bo Jackson
1975 - Archie Griffin
1965 - Mike Garret
1955 - Howard Cassady
1945 - Doc Blanchard
1935 - Jay Berwanger

They did a crappy job advertising/marketing this thing. In LA at SoFi with not much to compete with. Right after the Heisman? On a Friday night? Two good teams with decent fan-bases and recognition. And yet nobody had a clue about it. WTF?

I can’t even be bothered to bet on these because I don’t want to research the opt outs.

LOL. Even FF nerds aren't "scouting" a solid RB or two? And David Boston's son, a top 5ish WR draft pick?

Is it a big WOW night or something?

This is the last LA bowl
Who couldn't figure this one out? Grong?

Should we hand it off to WeedEater? Or wait, SNOOP! No doubt, in a collab.

There a ton of problems with NIL. One big one is that since football and men's basketball are the revenue drivers, previous to NIL, those sports basically subsidized all the other sports. Now all the resources are being poured back into football and men's basketball. If you don't, then your program will fall behind and if your program falls behind then you are not going to attract the resources to remain competitive. Non-revenue sports are being stressed and some schools are shutting down programs.

As much as I am a fan of football and basketball- I don't like that other sports are getting throttled. Now obviously, this isn't across the board for all schools (I think LSU is known for investing heavily in it's non-revenue sports among others). Sports that have apparently been hit the hardest are track & field/cross country, swim/diving, tennis, golf, and men's volleyball.

Did anybody know there was a bowl game tonight? Boise vs Washington. Don’t recall too many Dec 13 bowl games.
Noticed it last night. Actually two teams I know pretty well, too. One I think is underrated who definitely has some great players (QB, RB, WR - Boston's son). Actually both RBs are good. QB Williams Jr, though, is something else. Very quick and fast, out of the pocket, he's a big problem. And he can throw too. Really fun to watch. Washington is underrated and I expect them to roll. That is if they care and keep those guys in.

This is not your typical Boise State. That whole conference had a lot of talent take off for colleges not in flux and/or money. They literally aren't a conference after this game. Just look at their records. 4 were tied at the top (4-2) and that's because there was so much mediocrity. I mean, even New Mexico tied for first and THAT is saying something. Some math equation landed Boise State at home vs UNLV and it was a joke. At one point, 7 penalties on UNLV, none on Boise State. Typical. And UNLV still could've won.

Since it's somewhat of a regional game, there could be some pride. BSU will show up to beat Wash (and they just played a week ago. Washington OTOH had their last gasp with Oregon and that was two weeks ago so those guys may have mailed it in. It's also in LA so they may be finding other things than football around. I hope not because I'd like to see them roll Boise. One of the few bowl games I'll bet. Washington is for real -- top 20 team, easy. They could've won a few more games, at least one, if it wasn't for Fisch, their HC. If he just lets that kid (Williams, Jr) let er rip, they would've been better off. Instead, he leaned on that running game and tried to wear teams down. Like, almost proving their not a P-12 team or some ****.

Against the bigger names on their schedule, they played to just stay in the game. Dumb.
Williams is 14/20 for 204, 4 TDs. With a 40+ yard drop by Boston (possible TD and only Boston's 2nd drop of the year they said, wow).

Williams is 19 years old. On a Heisman night, here's your little dark horse for next year.

The RB's are averaging, well, a lot. We'll see where they end up.

As for Boston, he's at 130 and a TD. (coulda had 2, 160, but no matter, NFL up next, top 5 WR drafted? I'm not so sure.)

Boise was up 3-0. It's 38-3 Washington.
