2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 X-Season in the books. Time for final cuts. (68 Viewers)

Not loving the new helmet design, however winning will cure that pretty quickly.

Alternate helmets can only be worn with alternate uniforms. IOW, the color rush grey. Is that still a Thursday only deal? So week 4 at Lambeau would be the one time we might see it?

We’ll wear white top on blue pants or all whites at GB. New helmet / grey color rush will be:

Week 7 MNF v LVR
TBD MIN

(unclear if that’s WK 16 @ MIN or WK 16 MIN)

NFL has a lot of convoluted rules wrt unis, I might be missing something,

here it is

Isn’t that the skinny late 60s/early 70s logo? Was always a fan of that one.

I like the color scheme and the logo...it seems too high though. As an alternative, I like it. I am still a fan of the current design. The floor is 13-wins.

That logo looks good on caps and t-shirts. Not as sure about the helmets.

the intro video was cool

(Lions PR dept recently won 5 local emmys, they are on point per usual)

helmet is fine, but pairing that with grey color rush and white numbers sort of clashes

new alternate uniforms come out next year so I think this is more about introducing an alternate helmet to build the ensemble off from
Even the new helmet doesn’t help the ugly grey uniforms. Cool intro though.

Initial view is so-so. Who knows it might grow on me. Dut the dirty grey color rush has not.

Like the color but that logo to me was associated with losing for way too long.

I am liking the helmet but not the color combo. Lions website most people like the helmet but not the grey uniforms.

The new helmet would be great with the all blue color rush, or the all white with blue trim. The dirty grey uniforms are bad enough, but the blue does not go at all with them.

The top Lions who will outperform his fantasy consensus projections.

Sam LaPorta. Projected TE30, will end up in the top 10.

Everyone says Rookies TE never perform well. This kid is going to blow the conventional narrative out if the water. He is not only tearing up camp, coaches love him and he fills a void on the offense. Ben Johnson will get this kid the ball.

Others of mention:

Jared Goff at QB16 is typical if the disrespect he gets. He will be better in yardage and TDs than last season, putting him closer to QB6.

Gibbs at RB19 might slightly low, but he will not be the lead back. His recieving numbers will propell him into the top 15 though.

Jamo is kind of tough at WR46. He will be top 20 when he plays, but missing 6 games is tough to overcome. I still see around WR30 for the season.

An interview with Jamo's trainer....kind of blows thr lid off of some common narrarratives.

His trainer has good things to say about him is what I call fluff. He needs to prove it on the field.

His trainer trains many top recievers including tyrek hill. No reason to lie about this one. Not sure why there is a portion of the fan base who dump on Jamo. The kid is freakishly talented, absolutely loves football, and is putting in the work by every single account.

Because he’s probably friends with Jamo and Jamo is certainly paying him?

I want Jamo to do well and he's clearly both very talented and has worked hard. I am not going to put much stock into any interview with a player's agent, trainer, nutritionist, mom or even coach for that matter. We see a million fluff pieces every off season. This is just another version of "best shape of his life", "put on 10 pounds of muscle", "changed his whole diet", etc. The proof has to be on the field, not in the blurbs and bytes.

So what. The guy is training many of the top WRs, his lifestyle is not dependant upon pimping for Jamo. Thst is an extremely lame reason to dismiss someone.

Generally when a paid consultant is giving the media an opinion about one of their clients, reasonable people factor in the inherent favorable bias of the consultant toward the person they work for.

Did you guys actually listen to the interview though? I just finished it. The parts that were most interesting to me were:

~him talking about how magnetic he is as a personality. Despite being a quiet guy, the other guys kind of flock around him.

~how dedicated he is- for example, he’s the only guy that ever asked for practice film of the other receivers.

~how good of a young man he is in general. He really drove this point home that he’s just genuinely a good guy and that any character concern floating out there is just a total shock. My BS detector did not activate during this stretch.

Yes, it’s fluffy and of course he would say good things. Watching it though, I really come away buying what he’s selling. It’s not what he said so much as how he said it.

Yeah it’s all good stuff. I skimmed through. Still, he’s being paid by Jamo. Of course he’s going to say glowing things. I could sit down and make anyone of my students sound excellent without lying or stretching the truth too much. Doesn’t they are all great students who are being successful. I’m sure Jamo has many great qualities or otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten this far. No doubt about that- you don’t accidentally get drafted in the first round.

It's pretty similar to everyone getting excited about OL Duke Manyweather praising Colby Sorsdal. Yes, it's nice that folks who are coaching elite athletes like our guys. At the end of the day, it's still an independent contractor being paid by the athlete. Part of the equation is recognizing that's not the same thing as a neutral source rating them highly.

Interesting ranking. Mentioning Levi kind of shows ignorance though...should have mentioned Alim, LaPorta, Kirby instead.

RANKING THE CORNERSTONES OF ALL 32 NFL TEAMS: WHICH FRANCHISE IS BEST SET UP TO WIN IN FUTURE YEARS?

7. Detroit Lions

Five Cornerstones: OT Penei Sewell, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, DL Aidan Hutchinson, DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson, WR Jameson Williams

In just a few years, this roster has completely turned over — chock-full with arguably the deepest stable of young talent in the NFC. Philly gets the slight advantage over its players being more proven to this point.

Both have perennial Pro Bowl potential if they stay healthy. St. Brown is already a true No. 1 receiver (also under the age of 25). Gardner-Johnson is an exceptionally good defensive back, and Jameson Williams has the talent (if realized) to be quite deadly.

When looking further into the roster, it’d also be appropriate to mention the likes of Frank Ragnow, Jahmyr Gibbs, Malcolm Rodriguez, Levi Onwuzurike, and Jack Campbell.

I like all of this except isn't CGJ just on a 1 year deal? Not sure he's cornerstone but boy am I excited about him this year.

James Houston could be considered a Cornerstone, but we need to extend him and extend him soon. He is an elite pass rusher, moreso than even Hutch.

Maybe. He looked incredible in flashes for sure. It will be really interesting to see what his larger role is and how he does with it. He might be a better pure pash rusher than Hutch but Hutch is carrying a much bigger workload and level of responsibility. I would like to say Ragnow is a cornerstone but his toe is a longterm concern.

Jared & Amon-Ra have gotten together in Southern California again to play catch (if that sort of thing excites you.)

Rodrigo got engaged and then bought a boat (priorities.)

Jack Campbell got engaged and rented a boat.

Kayode whatshisname & Nate Sudfield also got engaged but stayed on land.

Dan Campbell went to a Tigers loss on the 4th.

Jamo managed to not blow off his fingers on Independence Day.

Frank caught some really big fish, often. Daily.

The entire offensive line has a baby 1 year old or younger.

There, you’re all caught up. Expect news to be on this level for three more weeks.

Well, Inside the Den Draft edition should release in the next week so there’s that.

It’s so enjoyable to have such a clutch and team oriented player in ARSB. Part of me is still amazed by the transformation that is happening for the Lions.

He had a 4 week stretch last year in which he played 30 snaps due to an ankle injury.
  • VS SEA missed game
  • @ NE 20 snaps (4-18-0)
  • bye week
  • @ DAL 10 snaps (1-4-0)
Team went 0-3.

In general, though, I think the mentality under this HC when it comes to (inevitable) injuries is a massive factor. Walker missed most of the year (achilles), no big deal, let’s see what rookie Kerby Joseph can do.

It’s crazy the OL has literally never played together. Staggered Decker/Ragnow injuries meant they never played together in 2021, and Big V missed all of last year. Under previous regimes, I swear that would be among the excuses why they missed the playoffs. Under MCDC, consensus top 5 unit. Don’t forget further injuries last year meant they were starting 6’9” guards (v Commanders) and practice squad guys with no NFL snaps (v Bills.) Crazy solutions that worked out.

They don’t care. SOL would be “man why does this always happen.” Brand New Lions - “it’s cool, that’s why we kept this dude, LFG.”

So I am at the Plymouth Art Fair yesterday and see Hutchs dad. They live two blocks away from the fair. Then I look over and see this tall guy standing next to Hutchs mom with his back to me. I tell my wife I think that is Hutch.

The fair is jammed so I make my way to in front of them and sure enough Hutch is there with his parents and a couple others. We were right behind them as we walk though the art fair for about 10 minutes. Not one person recognized him or came up to him.

Looked very tall but almost like a big HS kid as he looks so young in person, then I realized he is only 22. Oversize tshirt, sun glasses, flip-flops. Never would think he is a DE in the NFL.

re: the Denzel Mims ttrade

Jets traded the lions a 3rd and a 5th to move up to move up to draft him in the 2nd and now lions are getting him for a conditional 6th.

The 3rd round pick was used to draft Jonah Jackson.

What’s not to love here?

Another great move by Holmes. I have this weird feeling…Is this what it feels like to be rooting for a competent franchise?

the best thing about this is it's a different flavor

he's nothing special - despite his size he's not great at contested catches - but there is no overlap in his skillset and the guys they already have

gives them another speedster (4.38) to send on 9 routes besides Kalif

after week 6 might not have a role but we'll see

one of those great measurables guys who turned out to be not so great at football. that's fine, doesn't make him worthless, when you're talking about having different flavors to choose from, it just gives Ben one more guy to scheme up a few times a week. that has value.

Also supposed to be a very good run-blocker, so has some value for that alone. Seems like a really good shot to take.

one of those great measurables guys who turned out to be not so great at football. that's fine, doesn't make him worthless, when you're talking about having different flavors to choose from, it just gives Ben one more guy to scheme up a few times a week. that has value.
I agree that he is not a game changer, but I feel like previous Lion regimes would have paid a third rounder last year for him. We get a good sizable athlete that has not met draft capital expectations but has some chunk plays on his resume. The price they paid is worth the risk to see if they can develop him.
