Isn't Sudfeld going to be the backup QB? (addressing the thread title)

Because I keep hearing from national outlets that the Lions need more edge defenders and their pass rush is suspect, let me educate for a second. In the 2nd half of the season (Week 9 and beyond), the Lions ranked:
- 4th in QB pressures
- 5th in sacks

I guess we didn't need no stinking Badgley. He cut.

The new Justified season started this week and is set in Detroit. (Justified is also based on the writings of Detroit writer Elmore Leonard). I won't give a recap of the show, it airs on FX and Hulu if you want to check it out. The reason for posting in this thread is in episode 2 one of the characters, bar owner and former bass legend Sweety tells a story to US Marshall Raylan Givens and a Detroit PD Detective about Ra the Sun God. Not sure if it was an easter egg for our boy Amon Ra or if Ra has some other ties to the Motor City.
Also, while checking r/detroitlions to see if anyone had posted a video of the scene I saw a post about @BobbyLayne . I was today years old when I learned about the curse of Bobby Layne (only became a Lions fan after developing the bad habit of drafting Lions RBs year after year in magic football)
Backup QBExcept for maybe PK and KR, are there any positions that we are weak at?
Our offense is stacked. And even with our most explosive player out for six weeks, I am confident that Ben Johnson will get production out of Gibbs, Montgomery, ARSB, LaPorta, Reynolds, Mims and Jones Jr.
Alim is going to be a force on the inside and Buggs will be fine, but the Edge position is overloaded with guys who can get 10 sacks.
Our secondary has more talent than it has ever had. The Lions have had some great individual secondary guys in the past, but never a team that goes 7 deep with guys you would like to start.
This is easily the best complete roster the Lions have ever had. The first time I ever felt confident that the Lions could put up 12 wins. I would actually be disappointed if we only win 10.

CJ Gardner-Johnson hurt in practice....a terrible start. Not sure how serious, but was reportedly carted off.
They also said it was a non-contact injury...that's never good.CJ Gardner-Johnson hurt in practice....a terrible start. Not sure how serious, but was reportedly carted off.
Just heard on The Ticket, said Johnson was visibly upset and slamming his fist on the cart and had to be consoled by teammates. Usually, players know when something is serious.
This would be a huge loss right off the bat. Hopefully it is not an ACL.
Turns out he appears to be OK. Looks like he had a Paul Pierce sort of knee injury. They also said it was a non-contact injury...that's never good.CJ Gardner-Johnson hurt in practice....a terrible start. Not sure how serious, but was reportedly carted off.

To be fair, carted off with a non contact injury is a season ender in the 85-90% range, but also yeah you are correct. This is why people shouldn't over react over news until something is confirmed by the team

MRI results are good no significant structural damage to his kneeTo be fair, carted off with a non contact injury is a season ender in the 85-90% range, but also yeah you are correct. This is why people shouldn't over react over news until something is confirmed by the team
Anytime you see the John Deere take a player off it is usually for the worst.
Hopefully this is just a minor injury.
Yeah not sure what happened here. Campbell said that Badgely and Patterson were basically the same kicker.I guess we didn't need no stinking Badgley. He cut.
I wondered if not kicking in OTAs contributed to this. Except for being pathetic beyond 50, he was a pretty good kicker.

They also have Romo in camp. Probably can't rule him out.Yeah not sure what happened here. Campbell said that Badgely and Patterson were basically the same kicker.I guess we didn't need no stinking Badgley. He cut.

Both accurate except at longer range
I have to eat my words. I had previously criticized Holmes for trading for a guy who is going to be cut ala Trinity Benson.Another great move by Holmes. I have this weird feeling…Is this what it feels like to be rooting for a competent franchise?
I didn't even realize Tony Romo could kick. They also have Romo in camp. Probably can't rule him out.Yeah not sure what happened here. Campbell said that Badgely and Patterson were basically the same kicker.I guess we didn't need no stinking Badgley. He cut.

Another reason to be hopeful is that we have the cap space to extend our developing stars.Never in the history of the Detroit Lions have I genuinely been excited about the development of so many players. Look what we have to look forward too:
1. Jamo....will anyone be able to catch him once the ball is in his hands? I think he could be the most explosive and elusive man in the NFL. He is going to shut up a lot of the critics.
2. Gibbs....what can he do once he gets in the open field? Ben will find a ton of ways to get him the ball in the open fid and he is going to have some huge plays.
3. ARSB.... As great as he has been the first two season, he just seems to keep getting better.
4. Houston....Our most dominant pass rushing end since Bubba Baker. I hope the SAM role and rotating to DE works for him and keeps him on the field more. The guy is a wrecking ball every snap he plays.
5. The entire secondary...so much young new talent most of whom has already proven to be very good with the possibility of being great.
6. Sewell. Only 22 years old and is domininent but still has not physically peaked. The dude is going to open up holes I could run through.
7. Hutch. Came on strong at the last half of the season. Works his butt off to improve and will be the most impactful defensive player on the field.
8. LaPorta. Throw the old adage that rookie TEs take time to contribute. This kid is on a mission to br making plays day 1. Easily will be the most productive rookie TE in the best TE class ever.
9. Alim. A lean mesn fighting machine and still comes in at over 300 lbs. He will be a force and tough for the interior guys to stop.
Not to mention Monty who will be getting the tough yards and breaking off a few. The Linebaking crew has tons of upside. Mims has potential to be a great fill-in. Reynolds and Jones Jr. are pretty much known dependable contributors. Goff just needs to continue what he did the last half of the season. Keep his turnovers to a minimum and make those high percentage passes and he will put up big numbers. Throw in a few deep balls now on then to keep the defense honest.
So much upside at every position on the field. Usually with the Lions you have too many positions with lottery tickets and hope. This year it seems like we are playing with a lot of pocket Aces.
That is why I never care for the discussions of big FA signings. I want to keep a lot of these young guys. There are at least four guys I want to extend, moreso than even Bridgewater who at least makes sense.Another reason to be hopeful is that we have the cap space to extend our developing stars.Never in the history of the Detroit Lions have I genuinely been excited about the development of so many players. Awesome video. Lions believe that their first four picks were within the top 18 players in the entire draft.

As you said time will tell. It certainly was not a mainstream draft. They didn’t want to wait and believed the first three picks would be starters and help them win now.Lions believe that their first four picks were within the top 18 players in the entire draft.
aka hubris
it's pretty hilarious the war room is quiet as church when Brad & Dan talking to the picks, then Sheila gets on and can barely hear her convo bc the guys are hyping each other up lol
they got their guys, very reminiscent of a lot of Seattle drafts in the 2010s (or any Mayock/Gruden draft)
hoping it works out
