2025 Detroit Lions: 3-1 Lions roll over Browns (28 Viewers)

Since consensus seems to be the 2022 QB class is weak - and we have a ton of needs anyway - then presumably we’ll be drafting a franchise QB in April 2023.

Predicting the 2023 QB Class

The 2022 QB class looks weak on paper…does that mean they will all stink? Certainly not, usually we get at least one franchise QB a year and this class likely will join that trend. However, the 2023 QB class is much more intriguing and the reason for that is STAR POWER. Right now, in late November, we are seeing two of the top prospects in the 2023 class dual it out for the Heisman trophy. C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young don’t lack an ounce of star power, but where do they stand as pro prospects and stack up against the rest of the class?

**Elite Tier**

Look, it’s early…it’s Late-November and we can’t even realistically stack up the 2022 class yet, so 2023 is a crap shoot. However, as of now, there are three extremely talented QBs that I think could all be viable 1st round picks.

**C.J. Stroud | Ohio State, RS FR**

Stroud struggled early in the season, but has absolutely taken off and is now the odds on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy following his 6 TD performance against Michigan State. I love the arm talent, I love the mental processing, I love the size, but what I love the most is the improvements that Stroud has made to his game along the way this season. He has completely rewritten any concerns I had early in the season and has seriously showcase his elite NFL ability through his first season as a starter. The biggest hurdle Stroud must face going forward is that he will lose a pair of receivers that very well could go in the 1st round, however, Jaxson Smith-Njigba has become a very viable WR in the Buckeyes offense and will be rejoining the Buckeyes next season, as well as the talented freshman RB TreyVeon Henderson.

**Bryce Young | Alabama, SO**

Young, who is just behind Stroud in Heisman odds, is on an absolute tear. In the month of November he has thrown for 1,100 yards and 12 TDs and hasn’t thrown a single interception…it’s only November 23 as I type this. I was a little worried early in the season, simply because it seemed that Alabama had simplified the offense a bit for him and he wasn’t really having to make many complicated reads, but what I forgot was that he is young and inexperienced…and now, a few months later, he is looking comfortable and poised to be a 1st round pick.

Seems like Young and Stroud are 1a and 1b as I type this, but check out the rest here:

Predicting the 2023 QB class
That would open up the later first round pick to be WR. Treylon Burks of Arkansas is one possibility, he definitely has the size at 6'3" 232 pounds.

Drake London of USC is a tall one at 6'5" 210.

Today's the day, fellas. Lions are going to get the first one.

Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!

Tailgating right now and it is festive in The D!

Going to meet some friends at a bar for a drink and then head home to watch the Lions lose.

Quite a few good options - Burks, Bell, London, Pickens all have alpha size really.

Qb I feel like Willis has fallen away in recent. Corral seems like the the QB to go first to me. He’s  accurate and he’s a dual threat. Doubt it’s us that takes him though.

Lions/Bears parlay for me today

Swift TD

Monty TD

Dalton over 0.5 INTs

under 49.5 points

Raymond over 2.5 receptions

Swift over 107.5 total yards

Monty over 102.5 total yards

£10 returns £710

Which bar you going to ? So many I remember fondly of my time there ! Detroiter, Baltimore, Grand Trunk Central, Shileighleighs ( spelling ?! ),  Jacoby’s, Sweetwater tavern

Dan Campbell with any other franchise would be fired tommorow morning.   Jim Caldwell was a horrible game manage but Campbell is way worse and it is not even close.

The last 3 minutes was a complete debacle for an NFL team.   Would the Lions have won?  Proably not but he took away any chance they had to win.

Campbell is a TEs/Special teams type of coach.  A motivational speaker who sold Sheila and Rod Wood a bill of goods with the biting kneecaps talk who now is in over his head as a HC.

To be honest Matt Patricia was a way better coach but the players hated him.

Lions fans deserve so much better.   I was tailgating this morning and it was so cool in The D and then this disaster.

I agree. Good thing he only has 5 years left on his contract.

One good thing I'll take away from today is that having a more competent receiver in Reynolds improved the passing game. Lions rolled snake eyes on their FA WR signings and the Benson trade. The lack of WR play has hurt offense all year.

what’s the bigger bonehead? Glenn panicking and calling B2B timeouts? Or AG lining up his DBs 8 yards off on 3rd & 4?

But yeah, ####### crucify DC, he deserves it.

Everyone with any kind of title needs to meet in the big conference Saturday. Bring Campbell in and do an intervention. Take away the headset and the play sheet. No mas.

Another thing that's positive (I'm trying real hard here) is Godwin Igwebuike runs hard and deserves more playing time. Has breakaway ability that Williams doesn't. Not saying he should replace Williams but would like to see more carries.

Nice take.

I will admit Campbell sold me a bill of goods too.   Now it is so obvious that he is not ready to be a HC.

Campbell had no idea why the penalty was called either and needed explaination. And they almost had to call another one. I agree Glenn should not have called a TO but we have a bunch of trainees coaching in key posiitons and Anthony Lynn who has been an OC and a HC has been undermined and nowhere to be found.

Jimmy Johnson said Campbell has too much on his plate trying to call plays and manage the game and i agree.

They have the worst offense in the league, and Dan Campbell lights at least 4-5 series per week on fire. Running on third and long is coaching scared. How does unconditional surrender of a possession give the team the best chance to win?

______________

Safety Will Harris got the start at slot cornerback for A.J. Parker, who went on injured reserve this week. With a long week ahead, perhaps it’s time to consider other options. Harris had a nice third-down pass breakup on the game’s first drive, but melted down in the second quarter, allowing a 52-yard touchdown to Darnell Mooney before blowing an assignment on the ensuing touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham. Austin Bryant was furious with him on the field, and it’s easy to understand why. Harris has just made so many more negative plays than positive plays throughout his Lions career. It’s time for a change.

Have to agree with Kyle Meinke here. There are rarely any offsetting positive plays either. Not sure why he sees as many snaps as he does, he shouldn’t even be in the league. Last year the passer rating when he was in coverage was 117.7. This year his PFF grade is 38.8.

Yet he’s second to only Amani Ostillcannotspellhisname in snap counts amongst DBs. 87.24% how is that possible?

_______________

Mr Jack Fox has four punts over 67 yards, a new franchise record. He just played his 27th game.

_______________

Dan Campbell is winless in 11 games as Lions HC. The only Lions HC with a longer streak of ineptitude in his first year was Marty we’ll-kick-to-start-OT Morningwig at 12. Should be able to blow by that mark.

Lining up 8 yards back was the biggest error.

I wasn't aware of the two timeout penalty. I remember kickers being iced with double timeouts in the past and that's why they probably passed the rule to avoid intentionally slowing down the game.

we learn a new NFL rule (or one gets created) from Lions games every couple years, so we were probably due for another one

There have 45 instances of 3rd and 32 (or more) in the NFL since 1994.

Lets think about that. 45 times in over 7,500 games. That’s around once every 51.7 games, so as a rough approximation, happens once every 100 games. The Lions were in that down & distance twice yesterday.

_______________

The offensive line had been called for holding 9 times in 10 G coming into Week 12. Six (6!) holds yesterday. Jonah Jackson - who I’m certain leads the group in penalties for the year - was the only one of the 5 starters not called for holding.

_______________

On the Graham TD, Harris didn’t follow him in motion. Austin Bryant went off on him. The kid is so clueless on how to do his job. Granted he’s not their normal nickelback but these kind of mistakes are a weekly thing.

_______________

@Justin_Jackson

Detroit's defense has its own issues, but it has to be mentally and physically exhausting trying to carry this offense.

Goff's started 13/14 for 97 yards. A whopping 6.92 yards per attempt. Someone tweeted yesterday “Goff looks at checkdowns to the RB like a fat kid looks at pumpkin pie.”

As mad as I was yesterday, in the long run its better that we lost. We are pretty much a mortal lock to get the Kayvon Thibodeau pick. After seeing how anemic our pass rush was, that pick is critical to improving the defense. Thibodeau is a beast. If Romeo Okwara can come back from his torn Achilles, the pass rush could turn from a weakness to a strength literally overnight.

Have you seen Micah Parsons this year?  Looks like the second coming of Lawrence Taylor. I was hoping the Lions too Parsons as I did not know much about Sewell  and we already had a LT in Decker.

A solid pass rush will help the entire defense, less time for receivers to get open.

Hopefully Reynolds can turn into something for us. 6’3, still only 26, at a surface value it looks like he replaces what we wanted from Tyrell Williams

The lack of pressure is really making it hard. Still, super impressed what Aaron Glenn has gotten out of this group. The defense has played well enough to win four games. Three walk off losses are largely a result of Campbell turtling up.

He is coaching scared right now.

Activated rookie CB Ifeatu Melifonwu from reserve/injured.

I’m curious to see how they fit him in. Oruwariye has been playing well (5 INT in 9 G) and Jerry Jacobs has really impressed as a UDFA. Maybe Iffy can move inside to the slot? Or see if he can play safety to keep Will Harris off the field.

FYI - first of the Stafford draft picks.

Lions are one of the safest Under bets this year; 8 of the last 9 they’ve been on under (Philly blowout loss was the only exception.)

Team Over Record  Over% Under%

Detroit 3-8 27.3% 72.7%

Jacksonville 2-9 18.2% 81.8%

Denver 2-9 18.2% 81.8%

Seattle 1-9 10.0% 90.0%

Yes. He shouldn't be offensive coordinator. I do not think they are scoring more than when Lynn was calling plays. Probably less but that's a quick take.

With the Lions' offensive tools and a conservative coach with a conservative QB I think you cap your offensive scoring to like 14 points a game.

Lions gave Vikes a load on the road let us see what happens at home with no Dalvin Cook.

The bloom is off / honeymoon ended for DC. His play calling is so awful it almost feels like the’s trolling us now. Let Deuce take the headset if he can’t stand A Lynn’s play calling.

They asked Campbell in one of his pressers this week if he was aware of national perceptions about hw he’s doing as a HC and specifically the criticism directed at his conservative game plans. He replied:

“Naw man, I don’t really pay attention to that stuff. But just based on the sharp increase in the number of hang-in-there-dude texts I’ve been getting, figured something is up - so I guess I am kind of aware of it.”

Aiden Hutchinson could very well be a Detroit Lion next year. The last 2 weeks he had 4 sacks and 22 QB pressures, including an insane 15 against Ohio State. That's the most Pro Football Focus has ever recorded.  What a beast.

Aye, seems like Team Hutch v Team Thibodeaux is all the rage right now. If we are basing it solely on how each performed in their respective conference championship games yesterday:

  • 3 tackles, 1 sack
  • 4 tackels, 1 sack, 7 QB pressures, game MVP
_______________

Guys, the third string running back in Ann Arbor has a better arm than Goff. What a throw!!

Lions will wear #42 on the back of their helmets today.

U of M wore Tate Myre's number on the front right of their jerseys yesterday.

He was likely headed for FBS college career, just had a recruiting visit toToledo. I've had a difficult time reading anything about it. My adult son went to high school a half hour from Oxford, played them in sports often.

It's a terrible tragedy, but you have to be incredibly impressed with this 16 year old who ran toward the danger. Long ago I had shots fired at me in anger, and I tell you that's a moment when you don't have time to think. It's nearly impossible to process anything. You do what you have been trained to do. You act instinctually. That's one helluva great kid in my book. I'm glad he is being honored.

I think Thibodeau is a better athlete and he has a much more explosive first step. The latter separates them imo. I love Hutchinson's relentless motor but right now I'd still take Thibodeau.

There might be one sliver of good news.  Mike O`Hara long time Lion beat writer thinks Sheila Ford might be finally willing to sell the Lions.

It will probably never happen but it gives us some hope.

So that's why they won a game.

Late update

I was at the game.  Then we went out downtown.  Left my phone in my vehicle.  Was glad they finally won for the players.

Those grey uniforms look worse in person than on TV

Lions colors are blue and silver.   Those are a dirty looking dismal grey.

Wear the all blue or find a silver color.
