Glad to have you aboard. Sorry about the clutter.Raiders fan checking in again….
Is this what it’s like to be a top team in the NFL? Arguing over the definition of “greatness”? Count me in!
Go Lions!
Most of us are used to being lower than the Raiders are now. So we might be a little spoiled.Raiders fan checking in again….

Love watching this team. Glad they’re so good now that I get to see them in lots of nationally televised games.
Was loving Gibbs lighting up Tampa Bay this week, and then I said to my brother, “now they’re going to batter them with Montgomery “. What a great offense.
And man, The D shut down the vaunted (though hobbled at WR) TB offense and Mayfield. Love the vibe of your D Coord with those dreads on the sideline and hyped up as hell.
Keep on keepin on!
Honestly, Maxx is the next in a long line great Raiders who are the ONLY great player on the roster and their career is wasted on a crappy team. The Raiders would be doing him a great favor to send him to a team that can actually compete.Love watching this team. Any chance the are moving on from Crosby? *fingers crossed*
I thought I read that they are not going to trade him. Crosby has said repeatedly that he wants to stay with the Raiders. They could get a haul if they moved him.Honestly, Maxx is the next in a long line great Raiders who are the ONLY great player on the roster and their career is wasted on a crappy team. Aaron Glenn made mistakes.
In four short years Brad Holmes has taken a laughing stock of a franchise and turned it into arguably the best roster in the league. It blows my mind that actual Lion fans spend their energy criticizing him. Is he perfect…nope. However, based on my first sentence I am more than content on the job he has done as I know what worse looks like. 5-2 and looking good this year, I am not missing the pre-Holmes era one bit.

Everyone agrees on this. The problem is there are some who feel you are no longer allowed to question Brad for all he's done.In four short years Brad Holmes has taken a laughing stock of a franchise and turned it into arguably the best roster in the league. It sure is a lot more fun arguing about whether they need one more piece to win the Super Bowl vs arguing about when they should fire their coach or who they should take with their Top 5 pick.
Brad Holmes has done a spectacular job. If we don't get a Super Bowl out of this run, it would be a bummer, but it will still be the greatest run of Lions teams in my lifetime.

I have said it 100 times, you can enjoy the ride, appreciate the team and think Brad is doing a great job and STILL be critical.
Most fans in every other sports town do it. Here in Detroit it seems you cannot question Brad or Yzerman without being asked to move out of the state.

You can criticize Brad all you want. But I can criticize asinine statements too. Things like we can't call Brad Holmes great until he wins two Super Bowls. Or talking about they must go all in now because the window is going to close. Or that Brad Homes does not understand the importance of a pass rush. Or that there is some sort of football formula that must be followed to win and Brad is not following it.
Brad Holmes has done an absolutely outstanding job, an A+ by any reasonable standard. Nobody has drafts where you 4 players the quality of a Penei, St. Brown, Alim, and Barnes. Or four players like like Gibbs, Jack Campbell, LaPorta, and Branch. Nobody. I would love to hear all about all these better draft classes than those by all the great GMs from other teams. These were incredible hauls that every single GM is envious of. I could not care less about a missed picks like Brodrick Martin or a Hendon Hooker. The draft is a fortune-telling crap shoot and Holmes is an absolute wizard at getting it right far more than not.
Yes, i absolutely love what Shiela, Dan and Brad built here. Detroit is a juggernaut other teams are afraid to play, a team that has been on everyone's list of top contentenders for the Super Bowl the last few years. Brad and Dan have a vision and plan for this team and they have earned 100 percent trust of the fan base who has endured decades of brutaly bad football.
There is no reason to use terms like "asinine" or "turds" towards people who have a different opinion than you.I stand by my statement on the turds Payne and Daisy continually drop on this thread. Every comment is dressed with negativity. Here are just a few in the last few pages, there are lots more.
- 'He has another decade and 2 super bowl wins before he can even put his name in that hat.'
- 'If pass rush continues to be a problem and Holmes doesn't address this off season then we know he doesn't value pass rushers...'
‐ 'He (Davenport) isn't a starting caliber guy anymore.'
- 'You can't keep everyone. It is designed that way and the windows are short. Name me one superbowl contender ever that left almost 20 percent in cap space because hey next year.'
- 'Exactly. This is why I question anyone who says Brad is doing everything he can to win a Super Bowl. No they are not.'
And the CHALLENGE is still on. Find me a single draft class of any NFL team which come close to matching Holmes 2021 and 2023 classes. Hands down the best classes of any NFL team during this era. Nobody has drafted better than Detroit and it is not even remotely close. Brad has done phenomenal and has helped turned the Lions from the worst organization in sports to perhaps the best. But apparently that is not good enough for some.

Most of us are having an adult conversation here. You seem to be taking it a bit too seriously.
Again, everyone here thinks Holmes has a done a great job. Everyone. Even me. I've said it numerous times.
But do I think he has done everything he can to win a Super Bowl? I do not.
Do I think their window is smaller than you? Yes.
That does not make me a bad person.
Take care and have a good day,
I disagree here. Doing everything that you can to win A Super Bowl would involve going all in on a particular season and sacrificing future draft picks and cap space, pretty much guaranteeing a decline in a couple of years when the bills come due. Brad has shown no inclination to do that. What Brad wants to do is build a team that will consistently be one of the top 5 best in the NFL and hope that things break right one of those years to win a title. There is no reason to use terms like "asinine" or "turds" towards people who have a different opinion than you.I stand by my statement on the turds Payne and Daisy continually drop on this thread. It is a major insult to say Holmes has not done everything he can to win a Super Bowl. The guy is working his butt off and doing an incredible job. Insulting what he is doing is absolutely a turdy comment. And I say that very much as an adult.

Those are very much different philosophies. Both are valid approaches to winning, but personally, I prefer the approach that Brad is taking, as the 'All-in' philosophy can be derailed by a key injury or unlucky bounce in a playoff game, and result in no title AND a return to mediocrity in a couple of years. But I certainly understand people who are so desperate for a Super Bowl that they'd choose the other path.

OK now that all that is behind us (hopefully) let's look at an actual game coming up.
Vikings opened last week at +7 but jumped to 8.5 after last night's debacle. Word is that the awful looking Wentz is being replaced by McCarthy, who himself looked mostly lost even before his injury.
Lions just have to stay focused on this game, don't do any looking ahead in the schedule, and it should be a W in some shape or form.
I think you are right, Vikings seem in disarray. This should be an easy win barring unforeseen injury or fluke turnovers that result in TDs.OK now that all that is behind us (hopefully) let's look at an actual game coming up.

I know it is a division opponent, but this should be an easy win. The Vikings defense isn't as good as last year, neither qb looks good, they can't run the ball, the Lions are off a bye and at home. Any win is good in the NFL, but I will be a little disappointed if this isn't a two score + type of game.
I have not seen him anywhere on the site recently. I remember him taking a break a couple years ago, hopefully it's just the same this time.Sorry if I missed this, but does anyone know what's going on with Bobby Layne? It's so crazy to see this thread buried on Page 5 because he's not posting his usual gems
Yeah, just looked it up and his last post was in this thread in September. Dropped him a note asking if everything was OK and telling him we all missed his contributions. Estimated return game for injured Lions
(Note that the eligible return game may be much earlier. See below for the IR eligible return dates.) Based on what's publicly known about their injuries, here is my rough estimation of when these players will be ready to play in a game. As always, team needs and roster management will play a part in when and if a player returns.
- Week 9 vs Vikings (Nov 2): Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch
- Week 10 vs Commanders (Nov 9): Terrion Arnold, Avonte Maddox, Sione Vaki
- Week 11 vs Eagles (Nov 16): Shane Zylstra, Miles Frazier, Malcolm Rodriguez (updated)
- Week 12 vs Giants (Nov 23): DJ Reed, Marcus Davenport
- Week 13 vs Packers (Nov 27 Thanksgiving): Daniel Thomas
- Week 14 vs Cowboys (Dec 4): Josh Paschal, Ahmed Hassanein
- Week 15 vs Rams (Dec 14): Khalil Dorsey
- Week 16 vs Steelers (Dec 21): Zach Cunningham
- Unknown: Giovanni Manu
The Eagles game is going to be huge. I would guess the goal is to get those guys back if possible. This is from a few days ago, so may be a little out of date. I've heard, for example, that TA could be back this week. Would also be nice if Reed and Marcus were back for the Philly game

Vikings should be a rather "easy" win. Commanders look lost. Biggest games going forward are Phiilly, GB and LA.
