2025 Footballguys Bowl Shark Pool Dedicated Leagues Sign-up! (3 Viewers)

Lots of chatter here! Lots of suggestions that might lead to the spoiling of surprises as well... hehhehehehehhe. We've got some wonderful things in store for 2025! You guys are our most loyal community members and I promise the surprises in store will satisfy all!

I've seen the suggestions about the Shark Pool leagues working like relegation leagues and I definitely think we can sort something out!

Full disclosure as well! I get a blip of time off in the beginning of August to go to NYC before the madness of the season begins every year and that was this past weekend.
 
There has got be a better way a differentiating between FBG BOWL Shark Pool Leagues and NFFC Shark Pool Leagues and their respective threads......no?

I really struggle at times to determine which one some folks are talking about in their posts here.
 
FBG BOWL

FBG Home Leagues

Both hosted on Sleeper.


Honestly, I wonder if a simple thing like ALL CAPS on FBG BOWL can make it stand out as different from Home Leagues.
 
#1. Footballguys Bowl: Free (no Entry Fee) Mega-Tournament style Contest exclusively for FBG Premium Subscribers. Multiple Divisions (12-Team Leagues) across which FBG Premium Subscribers are disbursed randomly.

#2. Footballguys Bowl *Shark Pool Dedicated Leagues*: a ***subset*** of #1 - not all Premium Subscribers actively participate in/contribute to the Shark Pool Forum. A group of Premium Subscribers who *do* participate/contribute in the Shark Pool Forum, thought that it would be neat to compete directly against other Shark Poolers in the Footballguys Bowl, rather than be randomly placed in one of the Multiple Divisions comprising the Footballguys Bowl, where they might not know anyone else they were competing against.

Think of it this way: all Cognac is brandy; all brandy is *not* Cognac. Both #1 and #2 are part of the same Contest. #2 is a subset occuring within #1.

The Footballguys Bowl operates off the Sleeper platform . As it is a Free Contest, NFFC is not involved, to the best of my knowledge.

#3. Footballguys Home Leagues: These are a completely separate entity from #1/#2, ***not part of the Footballguys Bowl*** the main point being they are individual Leagues operating independently (at least for now) of one another, with an Entry Fee and Cash Prizes, and as long as anyone is willing to pony up the Entry Fee, anyone can join, both Subscribers and non-Subscribers alike.

#4. Footballguys *Shark Pool* Home Leagues: a ***subset*** of #3, in which folks (Subscribers and non-Subscribers alike), who participate in/contribute to the Shark Pool thought it might be neat to compete exclusively and directly against other Shark Poolers in the individual Home League format, with an Entry Fee and Cash Prizes.

As these are Entry Fee Leagues, the fees are held by Industry-vetted and trusted LeagueSafe, which is tied into the NFFC. Therefore NFFC ***administers*** these Leagues, and the Leagues are hosted on the Sleeper platform.

Pretty sure that's how it all shakes out.
 
I agree and understand the differences. The problem I see is that some folks do not, and then post in wrong threads. Which is confusing to some readers (me.)
 
Okay Shark Pool! I've given the original invitees ample time to respond, but We DO HAVE OPENINGS. So if you know a Shark Pool member who wanted to be in a Shark Pool only league here is what we have.

- TWO Openings for a Tuesday 8/26 at 10AM draft.

I'll give these TWO spots out first come first serve. Claim the spot by replying below here in this Shark Pool thread.

I also have a few managers I need to JOIN the Sleeper leagues. Double check you have accepted your invite.

If you have not accepted your Sleeper invite, please do. I've emailed anyone who did not login to Sleeper their original invite again. If we don't have these spots claimed by tomorrow, I will have to start substituting people in. Thank you and sorry!

If it's not a big PITA maybe they can move me over. 003 is still 3 or 4 short too, may as well consolidate.
 
For full disclosure:

I am sending the non-respondents one last chance to accept their invites tomorrow before replacing their spots. All the leagues except for League 0004 have all 12 invites sent out. Tracking people down and getting confirmation is the longest part of this process for sure. This is a free and fun tournament so I tend to give a long leash especially with the summer being here and some folks on family vacations. I appreciate everyone's patience though. I really do.

I see questions regarding who certain people are in leagues. I understand asking the question and please do so! For privacy reasons, I cannot say "this is who this is" without permission.

I can say (outside of the illustrious Bob Harris) all joined from a call to action in the Shark Pool threads. Nowhere else. So they are a Shark Pool member. Unless a Shark Pool member shared the invite with an outside person.
 
@Joey Wright , I completely understand where you are coming from, that you are hesitant, or flat-out just can't, answer queries about 'who's who'.

WIth that being said, it seems to me that an underlying premise of 'Shark Pool Dedicated' Leagues, would be that all Members joining a League would not only be active participants, or at the very least, constant lurkers here in the Forum, but would identify themselves as such, by their Forum handles, at a minimum to their League-mates, so everyone is on equal footing and knows who's who, if only for the sake of continuity, and also for the kind of comraderie expected in Leagues such as this.

I'm not usually at a loss for words, but this morning (haven't had coffee yet, and I'm a quart-a-day-minimum guy) I'm struggling to my thoughts in type - it just seems like it stands to reason/ it would be a given, everyone involved would be known by their Forum handle, and that I'd be able to identify everyone in my League by the same. It just seems *right* that in a League of this nature, everyone I'm playing with should know me as 'nittanylion' and not 'dragonfireOU812' or 'John Smith' (not my real name, but that's what I'm implying) , or anything other than that. There just shouldn't be cases of 'who's that random dude?' , or 'one of these things is not like the others' going on.

I can't for the life of me imagine why I'd go by any moniker other than 'nittanylion' in this League - of course, I might add 'The Biggest Loser' to it, after the Season, based on on how challenging a field the League for appears to be, but...well, you know what I'm saying.

Lets say karlwaage wins our League, or has such a noteworthy performance in the overall Footballguys Bowl, even possibly winning the whole thing, that he earns justly-deserved accolades for his accomplishments, aka the 'Thread of Fame' thing we've been bandying about. The way it stands at the moment, it plays out as: Footballguys Joe Bryant/Joey Wright says: "drumroll, please ... congratulations to (Shark Pooler 'X') , for..." Followed by his Leaguemates/other Managers in SP Dedicated Leagues saying: "Oh, it was *you* all this time! That just doesn't ring 'right' to me.

I dunno...maybe you could consider, for next Season, making it a thing, where, if you're going to join a Shark Pool Dedicated League, it's understood, if not required, that your Team name be your Forum handle?

You're doing yeoman's work here, Joey! Thanks so much for all the effort you're putting into this!

I am sorry. I meant I can't give out the REAL names. We have encouraged everyone joining the Shark Pool Leagues to use their Shark Pool names. I love that most people are doing this as well. We will need to add a part for next season to input your Shark Pool handle in the sign-up process for sure.

That being said, we also can't have us gatekeeping these Shark Pool Only Leagues more than we sort of already are. If someone is here, but not as active, we don't want to punish them. We can't have Dedicated Shark Pool Leagues, Casual Shark Pool Leagues, Tuesday Afternoon Only Shark Pool Leagues, etc. I am going to work to build the relegation levels at the end of the season between the four leagues. This shouldn't be too crazy of a project to pull off. Maybe an hour or so.

I love the idea of you all playing together, but this could also be a chance for a Shark Pool member who isn't as active to become more active.
 
We also have ONE SPOT open in League Three! First come, first serve! It is a Monday at 8 PM/ET draft August 25th!

I’ve found that it usually just takes a couple of nudges in the Sleeper chat room to remind the person to change their team name. Worked last year at least.

Interestingly enough, when I nudged the “rkrj” team in the Shark Pool League 1, he/she said they’re not in the SharkPool. Hmmm….did someone get an email to join by mistake?

At the prospect of being an oddball here, I am feeling indifferent towards the league advancement/demotion idea. I am not poo-pooing the idea, nor do I oppose it's implementation next year (which I am going to presume will happen.) The idea just does not flip my excitement trigger. No biggie.

I have an email out to him to figure out what happened. He mentioned his wife may have signed him up. She might be a poster here.

I think, like many (myself included), you’re confusing this FBG Bowl FREE tournament thread with the FBG SharkPool Home Leagues thread (of which we now have 4 and where we have been discussing the relegation/promotion concept). :)
 
I want to lay out all the openings we now have for the SHark Pool Dedicated Leagues in this year's Footballguys Bowl:

Sunday August 24th at 10 AM/ET (1 spot)
Monday August 25th at 8 PM/ET (1 spot)

There are also people who have not logged in/signed up with the link they were provided, yet were sent an invite via email. If you are seeing this, please take a moment to make sure you are completely signed up via sleeper.

100%. Shark Pool is Shark Pool. We will have zero excluding anyone in the Shark Pool from any of these leagues.
