2025 Philadelphia Eagles - We owe you one, Cleveland! (37 Viewers)

LB Haason Reddick’s master plan to request a trade and sign a lucrative extension was an EPIC FAIL❌

Reddick’s pattern of business is not one to be proud of:
🔶Requested a trade after posting 27 sacks in two seasons with the Eagles
🔶Gets traded to the Jets without agreeing to an extension
🔶Lost about $12.2M during his seven-month holdout
🔶Returns for 10 games and has career lows in tackles (14), tackles for loss (2), and sacks (1)
🔶His former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, wins a Super Bowl without him
🔶His market value in free agency is at an all-time low

Which is why the Eagles should bring him back on a "prove it" deal.
I don’t want him back. He was one of the guys apparently freelancing under Desai to try and pad his stats. He’s not a team guy.

Watching the D play so well this year really drives home the importance of guys buying in and communicating well. The communication was the real difference that made them so dominant this year.

Yeah it was communication. 2024 had nothing to do with getting CJGJ back instead of having Kevin Byard or replacing James Bradberry, Avonte Maddox, Nick Morrow and Zach Cunningham with Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Zach Baun and Nakobe Dean.
Are you saying there was no talent on the ‘23 team? I’ll disagree. There was a ton of talent, and they managed to win 10 games by the skin of their teeth based on pure talent. In spite of the coaching. They fell apart at the end of the season because the coaches lost the players.

You add 2 rookies (CBs no less), a guy that came from NO who was a ST ace and role-player and give snaps to an undersized LB that hasn’t really seen the field due to injury and struggling to beat out mediocre talent. And, all of a sudden you have one of the top 5 Defenses of all time? That’s coaching.

Watch the film and watch the communication between these players. Carter motioning to Smith to pull stunts. Baun motioning to Coop to pass off coverage, or Coop passing off coverages to the 2nd level. It was elite and they were all playing on the same page and executing Vic’s plan. Nobody was highlighting, chasing stats- they just “did their job” like Belichick always taught.

This year’s team was more talented than the ‘23 team, sure. But the real difference was the coaching. If Vic had been DC in ‘23, do you think we collapse late season like we did? Hell no. Makes me resent Gamnon even more.

Would the team have collapsed under Fangio as DC? Yes, because there was a true lack of talent on the back-end. They couldn't stop anyone in the pass game.

I disagree. Bradberry’s play dropped off. It looked even more significant because the schemes they were running and the total lack of communication.

Slay looked bad last year, too. But, he had a really strong season this year. Injuries? Maybe. Q and Coop? sure. But the biggest difference was the cohesion and communication at all levels.

Byard wasn’t who he was early in his career last year. But, again, he was vocal about the lack of communication. The team was a dumpster fire last year. But the talent was still there.

So you don't think the Eagles should re-sign any of their FAs? Why pay top of the market value for guys when the key is communication?

The 2024 Eagles had 5 new starters on the back end (Quinyon, Coop, CJGJ, Baun and Dean), that's a massive difference in talent compared to (Bradberry, Maddox, Byard, Morrow and Cunningham). That's even before you even factor in a sub who is actually an NFL-caliber player like Isaiah Rodgers instead of guys like Eli Ricks and Josh Jobe. They had a lack of talent in the secondary and linebackers and absolutely no depth at all back there. They could communicate all they wanted to, but you can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

This is a case of more than one thing can be true. Defensive talent improved and coaching improved. You can argue which had the bigger impact, but without a doubt both were improved from last year. They had enough talent last year to not be the worst defense in the league (and also not be the best), but they were a mess and never played like it.

I want Baun and Milton back. Baun, absolutely. Love to see Becton re-sign, if he’s willing to make a team-friendly deal.

Q vs Bradberry? Q, no question.

Coop vs Maddox? Coop, no question. BUT
Maddox was one of the better nickel backs in the league before this season.

Baun and Dean vs Cunningham/Morrow and White? Baun and Dean, no question. BUT, Cunningham and White played well (given the scheme) and have talent.

The scheme and the coaching (communication) make it like comparing apples and oranges. You seem to be saying it’s ALL TALENT. I’m not saying adding talent didn’t factor in, but I think Vic’s scheme and coaching is a bigger factor than the talent.

Do you think Zack Baun would be getting paid if Desai or pencil boy were the DC today? You think Q and Coop would be in contention for DROY? Come on, man, honestly?

I have liked these guys fpr a few years. I like them even better when they can admit their faults and wrong calls, and revise how they view something. Good look at the All-22 from the SB:

With the talent this defense had in 2024, I think their floor, regardless of coaching would have been around 10th in the league. I don't think even Fangio could have saved the 2023 team, they just weren't good enough from the LB and secondary positions.

The only thing you can't account for is whether a different coach would have identified Baun as a viable option for LB instead of a special teamer/situational pass rusher.

The Philadelphia Eagles' team is so airtight, they must have taken a page out of a book on how to make Swiss cheese. But honestly, who wants to eat Swiss cheese without holes? It's just...cheese.

I think the team would be a much better spot bringing back secondary guys like Burks and Rodgers than breaking the bank on Baun. Unless Baun is only getting like top 10-15 ilb money he is going to be expensive. Trotter Jr

Milton would definitely be a luxury considering Carter needs to be paid

According to sources with the Sun per Eagles Nation, the Eagles as a team had a meeting on going to the White House or not. The answer was an emphatic NO.
Not that it matters but this apparently is not true. Trump has not sent an invite yet. Eagles could still turn it down if he does but the Eagles have not turned down anything yet.

They’re going according to Shefty

Sounds like someone talked when they shouldn’t have yesterday and this smells like an official unofficial company comment Ig you know what I’m saying.

GB Packers are the latest team to propose banning the tush push.

2017 - Vikings
2022 - Niners
2024 - Packers

Every time we make the SB, one team loses their minds about it.
Add them to the list of 😭.

“The tush push is a rugby play, not football.”

Current place kicking was a “soccer play.”

Teams realized it improved FG% and adapted.

Tush push is the same evolution of the QB sneak. Figure out how to use/stop it instead of crying it should be banned.

Packers Seeking to Ban the Tush Push Play? How Ironic!

It appears that the Green Bay Packers have requested the NFL to ban the Philadelphia Eagles' notorious Tush Push play. You'd think with a name like the Packers, they’d be leading the charge in perfecting this technique, not asking for it to be banned!

Let’s unpack this. The Packers, a team named after the hardworking folks of the meatpacking industry, should theoretically be master's at leveraging brute force and teamwork skills perfectly suited for the Tush Push. Instead, they’re lobbying to get it removed from playbooks.

It's almost like a lumberjack asking to outlaw chopping wood because the other guy's axe is sharper. Green Bay, shouldn’t you be reveling in the opportunity to harness your inner packer and turn the Tush Push to your advantage?

Perhaps instead of pushing for bans, the Packers could spend a bit more time in the playbook room and a bit less time in the complaint department. After all, they have the name that implies they can “pack” a punch and push through any defensive line. Embrace the irony, Green Bay, and show us all what it means to truly pack a Tush Push!

Per Jeremy Fowler, ESPN, the league is scared the Eagles will get Garrett. Went further to say they'd go out of their way to get him if it meant blocking WAS Team from getting him.

Good play by Cleveland to drum up the value.
I'm going on record now 100% this happens at some point before the season, might be on the first day of FA, might be the draft, might be 4 days before the 1st game of the season.

Its the perfect Karma. We lost Reggie in his prime to go ring chasing (at an older age I may add)

We get Myles Garrett in his prime to go ring chasing.

It all just makes too much sense - you know Howie is doing math like "Well if I had to pay Sweat $18-22M per season, why not pay 10+ extra per, with the new cap go explode in 2029, fill it w void years and get a REAL dog at DE" and then double down in a deep DL draft.

Get it done Howie!

All this.

Myles is on an AFC team, check
Browns and Eagles played this past year and will take another 4 to get back, check
Eagles picks this year will be last in the round so Browns can claim "We got a 1st and a 3rd!", check
Myles excels in the 4-3 getting to the QB and is the perfect fit for Vic, check

Makes too much sense. Reminds me of AJ Brown and TO to PHI. Too much sense.

Andrew berry also said they aren’t trading him. This all means there’s zero market for a guy on the back end of his career, turning 30, wants a massive deal and defended a rapist teammate by calling him a model citizen seems to not float well with teams

Yeah, I don't think your interpretation of the situation is accurate. If Myles Garrett was a pariah around the league and/or teams don't want a 30 year old who wants a massive deal, then why would the Cleveland Browns take a "we're not trading him" stance. It defies logic. They'd want to move on from him and start over.

The more logical analysis is that the Cleveland Browns know how valuable the guy is as a player and teammate. The guy was a team captain, an AP1, and DPOY candidate. You don't trade guys like that away, you build around them. Players of his caliber can continue to produce well into their 30s (see, Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Michael Strahan, etc.). He's not some RB who will fall off a cliff due to wear and tear.

I get it, you don't like the guy. Just about every post you have about him you bring up his defending Watson. But you are way off base here.

I kind of have a feeling Howies going to do a soft reset of the cap this year. Save the money to pay Carter and Davis next year. Maybe get ahead of Jurgens by a year but I don't think we're going to see too much flash this year. The biggest moves will be who he decides to resign. Hopefully Baun at least. Keep drafting well and rely on essentially the same team To try to repeat.

Complete list of Eagles Free Agents:

Zack Baun
Mekhi Becton
Josh Sweat
Milton Williams
Fred Johnson
Avonte Maddox
Isaiah Rodgers (RFA)
Rick Lovato
Kenneth Gainwell
Oren Burks
Paris Campbell
C.J. Uzomah
Jack Driscoll
Nick Gates
Britain Covey (RFA)
lan Book
Le'Raven Clark

Jeff McLean's stay/go predictions are that only Milton Williams and Britain Covey stay. He think the rest are gone.

For other roster decisions, he thinks Goedert stays (no guaranteed money left on his deal, so a possible cut) and Huff also stays (cheaper to keep him than cut him), but Slay is a cut.
McLane is a hack. No way they let Baun walk, especially considering the uncertainty with Dean. I also think Rodgers is a no-brainer, and I've got my fingers crossed on Becton.

Keep drafting well and rely on essentially the same team To try to repeat.

Carter still has 2 years left plus a team option 3rd year. Davis still has a year plus a team option. Jurgens is the only guy that makes sense to extend now.

No I don't think they extend Davis or Carter this year. I think they are saving space to do both next year. The longer they wait on Carter, the more expensive it will be.

Couple points to remember:
  • 1st round picks can't sign an extension until they have completed 3 seasons, so next off-season is the earliest they can extend Carter but Davis is eligible right now.
  • Even if they sign them to an extension before Year 4 (2026), it's just that, an extension of new years and (significant) raises in those years. But, the team is still getting the benefit of that cost controlled 4th year. It's Years 5+ that will now have the bigger cap hits. So, for Carter, they really don't have to save space for next year because his 4th year salary is the same in 2026, with or without an extension. But, yes, having him sign the extension as soon as possible to lock him in before other player contracts at the position continue to rise is best.
  • An extension in Year 4 usually negates the 5th year option, because that player's new deal starts in Year 5. Sometimes teams will structure the extension so the 5th year pays what the option would have. They can do cap things to make it more palatable since the actual option can be expensive to exercise as it becomes fully guaranteed for that cap year and is based on the average of the 3rd-20th highest paid players at the position, playing time thresholds, pro bowls, etc.
  • The 5th year option only comes into play if the player hasn't signed an extension in Year 4. The team has to decline or accept the the 5th year option by the week after the draft going into Year 5. Teams can exercise the option going into Year 5 and either (A) let the player play on it and then let them become a FA, (B) play on it and tag them for Year 6, (C) sign them to an extension before they become a FA at the end of the season.
For Jurgens, they have no choice but to make an extension decision on him this season. He wasn't a 1st round pick so his 4th season is the upcoming 2025 season which is the final year of his rookie deal. It's either extend him, let him go to FA, or tag him.

Off the radar right now, but still big and around the corner: Mailata's deal is up next season. So this season could be time to extend him (which for vets usually means that 2026 year gets re-worked with more money) so that is a realistic thing they are saving up for next year. He's going to need to be paid as the top LT at the time of signing it, so sooner the better.

Per Jeff McLane, re signing Baun is the Eagles #1 priority and ya know Howie saying something like "just bc I didn't do something in the past doesn't mean I won't in the future" w regards to investing at LB.

So Baun is going to get re-signed, hopefully.
Good to hear. Linebackers weren't as essential to the Jim Johnson defense as they are to the Fangio defense, so they need to think about Baun's situation differently from how they dealt with Trotter Sr.

Nothing was essential to the Billy Davis defense.

I think the understated thing here really is "Vic has Howie's ear"

I heard a story how the GM of the Bears was talking about what Vic always said he wanted "Get me DBs, Dbs, Dbs" then they drafted Roquan Smith in round 1 that year, and I guess the guy called him up and was like "You GOTTA be happy we took Roquan Smith" and Vic just kept telling him "DBs, Dbs"

Then first year, Howie goes and drafts 2 stud CBs round 1-2, Vic gets his first #1 Defense to go along with his first Super Bowl.

It's a lot of the reason I have optimism for so many things: future of the defense, the youth of the defense, the fact Howie seems to ALWAYS learn from his mistakes...

Only putting this here ad it might become more of a discussion later. There’s new reports why Abdul Carter won’t go 1 and could slide a lot in the draft. Someone posted the shoulder injury was much worse then reported. Now there’s some off the field character concerns and issues. Could fall in the draft. Not working out at combine but will pro day March 20th. Interviews and his workout could be key for teams

Chicago's interior d-line is in shambles. I'd almost say there's no way Abdul Carter gets past them, but they also passed on Jalen Carter, so who knows.
