2025 Philadelphia Eagles - Howie sends WR packing. No, not that one. (52 Viewers)

Winning cures everything. The Vikings win was big. This week will be big, too.

I have a feeling the Birds win decisively this week- revenge, getting JC and Q back, NYG missing starting CBs, Kelly Green game, HFA, etc.

I think the biggest key is gonna be the Eagles’ C position. If they can muddle thru this game with Toth at C and find a way to neutralize sexy Dexy, they coast into the bye and get a chance to lick their wounds and reboot.
Winning also hides a lot of issues. Look no further then 22 season. I’m not saying it’s the same thing and Winning helps but it’s a bad aid on issues. Once Brady left NE and The Pats started losing more, Bill’s antics got tiresome quick. He’s a guy who’s philosophy works if you win almost as much as they did in the last 2 decades but it also wears thin when things aren’t going well. Just look at how Chip Kelly went about the Eagles. He tried doing it “The Patriots Way” and there’s guys who went else where like Chris Long and LaGarrette Blount who said they had more fun winning SB52 in Philly then they had at any point in NE.

Winning solves some stuff but hides a lot of other stuff.

If they trade him they’re forfeiting the season, it ain’t happening
If they don’t and it’s a bigger issue then publicly let on it could derail the season anyway.

He's not getting traded this season. Maybe next season post-June 1, but not at the deadline. As said above, the dead money on a trade is too much.
He’s not getting traded, period. We won the SB so you can’t fire the coach or trade the QB. Next best clicker is the fractured relationship between the QB and WR. It’s tired.
It’s been going on for 2 yrs now the fractured relationship. It’s not clickbait. If BG had to publicly come out and say somethings it’s definitely not nothing.
It’s 100% clickbait
Again you didn’t answer my question though. Why would BG come out and Personally call out Hurts and Brown on a radio show he does while still on the team if it’s all just clickbait? You don’t do that unless there’s issues. All I’m saying is I won’t be shocked when Brown gets traded. It may not be in the next week and a half but this offseason I could see it
“I made a mistake and I assumed that it was something that it wasn’t. I just want to win so bad that I don’t just want to use the media when we need to talk about something and we can fix the problem ourselves. I didn’t add to it in a good light, so that’s my bad. I just assumed, and it made me out to look even worse because I had it all wrong and now people are going to run with that part. I really just want to win, man, and I want brothers to be able to just hash it out.”

That’s a direct quote from BG.

We live in a world where clicks and engagement matter. Without them there’s no business. This isn’t new. Like I said above, we can’t fire the coach or trade the QB. This is the next best thing.
BG was just saving PR face. This was a typical PR statement read.

There were reports prior to this of Hurts and AJ not getting along. BG knew what he was doing but the team felt it was better for BG to try and retract that.

Im believing what im getting from sources people that’s being reported in the media as well. You can keep the green tinted glasses on and pretend everything’s all right. I chose not too. Either way it sounds like AJ won’t be an Eagle past this season. I’ll be shocked if he’s here start of training camp.

Reading the tea leaves is not “sources”. One of us has been able to walk into the Eagles locker room unstopped for 15 years and the other is you 🤷‍♂️

Big Dom brought cheesesteaks and pizza for Cam

Eagles chief of security Dom DiSandro visited Giants rookie RB Cam Skattebo while he was in a Philadelphia area hospital for surgery on his dislocated ankle, and brought him some snacks, per the @PhillyInquirer.

Locker room issues?

I’d venture to guess 70% of the AJ/Hurts stuff is made up BS. I’m sure they were friends who are no longer as close as they used to be. The rest is for the clicks.
The items that concern me aren't the articles or sports radio hot takes. It's Brown's actual social media postings. They are factual. And they all reek of pettiness and selfishness. Whining about targets in games they win. The team's vibe is so 'chill' and team-based that AJ's narcissistic me-first attitude stands out like a sore thumb. The Eagles staff does a good job downplaying it and Hurts would never feed the media craze by commenting on it, but there is a definite underlying issue in that locker room and it's not certain if it will fizzle out or come to a head and cause division. I'd hate to lose a guy with his talent, but he is definitely a cancer (or a pre-cancerous tumor on it's way to being cancer). My ideal scenario is for him to grow up and become a team player. I'd hate to see him producing somewhere else. But I wouldn't be crushed if they decided to move him and remove the cancer. I think Devonta would be just fine as the WR1.
Smith is like WR1B or can be an A like he did yesterday. Yeah AJ is giving me TO vibes. The guys in the locker room are gonna say the right things if this was media clickbait it couldn’t last the amount of time it has.

Best case is we finish the season with him and trade him in the offseason. There’s always someone desperate for a diva wideout. Yeah there’s guys complaining wanting the ball all over the league, but how many are acting like children throwing a temper tantrum on social media putting cryptic messages. Heck ive heard stuff from 4 different people and most of the media is saying similar now.

I’ll be shocked if he’s here Sept ‘26

Nick Marigold former jet passed away after battling illness. The reason I’m posting this is Marigold played Center and was the Jets version of Eagles Fan Favorite Jason Kelce. Numerious Jets fans where his jersey. Rex Ryan who was Nick’s coach for awhile was pretty broken up on NFL Today on CBS. Told the story of Rec’s last game with the Jets and the players and him knew he was getting fired. Marigold was injured and wouldn’t be playing, but he went up to Ryan and told his Coach “I want to play today even thought I’m hurt for you Coach. That’s how much I respect you.” Marigold was that kind of player.

I got to meet Nick at one of Anthony Becht’s Football games I helped out at here in Delco. Anthony would bring former and current players and coaches from his teams he played for (including other local football guys and college teammates) to help run drills and teach the kids life lessons. Nick was intimidating size but when you got to know him he was a big teddy Bear.

What stood out the most was at camp we had a young kid who was dead set on being a Center. He was having issues. Marigold noticed and stayed each day after camp 15-20 mins to teach this kid to be better. From day 1 to 5 he stayed to help this kid. That’s almost 2 hrs spent. But that was just who Marigold was. The NFL really lost a heck of a guy yesterday. Another gone far too early

Per Russini

TRADE: The Eagles are sending WR John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Jets for CB Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick, sources say.

MCII was one of the best nickel CBs in the league under Saleh and got paid like it. Since he signed that contract injuries have derailed him a bit and now this year under a different DC and with them bringing in Brownlee he became expendable. Great guy and a really good player when healthy. I think you guys will like him.
And today I learned that Joe Douglas, who drafted him, is back with the Eagles.

“Here's how badly Michael Carter II wanted to join the champs: Sources say he agreed to delete the $5M guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year to complete the trade to the Eagles”

This is how badly Michael Carter II has been this season . . . per PFF 111th out of 113 CBs.
Okay, I see only positives with this move. I will not condemn the guy before he suits up for a few plays. Then, all bets are off.

Maybe Carter just needed a change of scenery? Coaches? Teammates?

Good luck to him! If he brings us notable performance he will be rejoiced.

there are no negatives. Lost a WR who would have been lucky to see 15 targets for the season. brought in a CB who has experience and had at least one decent season. Spent a late round pick DOWNGRADE from 6 to 7...so practically free. There is no downside. Might not mean much in the end, but certainly low risk, moderate reward

Potentially getting much needed secondary help for basically nothing.

I wasn't banging the drum on moving Dejean out to CB because he has been basically the best nickle corner in the league for the last year. That being said if he can perform at 85% of his current output at CB2 and Carter can be serviceable to good as the nickle then its a HUGE positive. Better secondary overall can help the pass rush obviously...I just don't see a downside to this move.

There's always negatives.

The guy is a slot corner so to utilize him, you have to move DeJean to the outside. So all the good stuff DeJean does in the slot both in coverage, tackling, etc. is diminished when he goes outside. But the good news is you're replacing that with a guy who is rated one of the worst players at the position this year. I'd rather see what Bennett can do on the outside than use this guy in the slot. Plus, Carter is only going to be here one year, since his cap hit is over $12M next year. It's certainly low risk, but I don't see the reward here. If I'm taking flyers on CBs who are stinking up the joint this year, I would have preferred to go after Tariq Woolen, at least he plays outside. His contract expires this year so there is no future hits you have to worry about.

Philadelphia Eagles

Chance to make playoffs: 92.7%
Projected first-round draft slot: No. 29

Adding, subtracting or sitting it out? In position to add. Several teams I've talked to expect Philadelphia to explore cornerback and pass-rush options. Re-signing Brandon Graham last week eases the need at pass rush, but the Eagles probably will need an extra player down the stretch. The expectation is Philly will not trade A.J. Brown. -- Fowler

Key position of need: Wide receiver. Tradingfor cornerback Michael Carter II was exactly what the Eagles needed, except that sending John Metchie III to the Jets opened up a depth hole, especially if Brown continues to deal with a hamstring injury. -- Schatz

Who could be on the move? Running back AJ Dillon. No, not Brown -- he's not expected to be going anywhere despite heavy speculation and occasional cryptic social media posts. The other AJ makes some sense, though. Tank Bigsby's emergence in recent weeks (he rushed for over 100 yards against the Giants after Philly traded for himin September) has pushed Dillon down to fourth on the depth chart behind Saquon Barkley, Bigsby and Will Shipley. Dillon has been solid for Philadelphia this season, but there's not much of a role for him currently. -- Tim McManus

Who could be targeted? Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. Cincinnati should unquestionably trade Hendrickson. This season is lost and he has only one season remaining on his deal. Getting multiple picks to retool their defense with talented youth is a better short- and long-term plan for the Bengals than extending the almost-31-year-old pass rusher who has dealt with injuries this season. For the Eagles, additional pass-rush juice is a must-find at the deadline if their defense is to return to Super Bowl form. -- Solak

At the end of the day you’ll believe whatever version entertains you. Just remember to like, click, subscribe and tune into the next show!
If you believe that the locker room issues tied to whatever is going on between Jalen and Brown is just media contrived ********, I don’t know what to tell you. This is not a made up thing.
Where there’s smoke there’s fire on this one. Quoting BGs backtrack? Sounded more like PR spin then anything

It’s the same “smoke” for 2-3 years just blown back up when you need some clicks. Just remember click, like, share and subscribe!

Strange how odd it was there wasn’t much smoke last year. Oh that’s right, we were firing the coach and in your mind still need a QB lol
They were winning last year but there was problems already there. I guess you forgot AJ on the sideline vs ATlanta screaming at Jalen early in the year?
Did you read what you replied to or did you just wing it?

Ok. What are the positives with this move?
there are no negatives.

There’s definitely negatives but they’re all correctable as well. You’re not missing the WR in the deal no matter what and if Carter doesn’t work out you’re in the same boat. Now if Fangio can get something out of him and DeJean transitions well to the outside it’s a huge gain.

Carter was drafted in 2021. After the 2023 season, he was widely praised as the best nickel in football. He signed an extension with the Jets that paid him as the best nickel in football.

He got a High Ankle Sprain in the 2024 off-season. He had a back injury in season that hampered him. He missed games and was gimpy.

This year, he missed Weeks 5, 6, 7 with a concussion. He’s played 145 snaps, and his numbers put him at the bottom of PFF grades in a couple of categories. PFF grades are crap, and if you don’t go granular on the info, very misleading.

The kid is a good corner- he didn’t suddenly become a liability. He might still be nursing some injuries. It might take him a minute grok Vic’s scheme. But, if Vic decides to play him, it means the drop off from Coop in the slot is significantly lower than the upside of Coop over Ringo/Jackson/Bennett at CB2.

Is it a homerun? Doubtful, but maybe.

Is it an upgrade? Likely.

Was it worth trading Jon Metchie, who was never gonna see the field? Definitely.

6 weeks is intense. I got 3 days from comments in the Eagles/Giants thread. Welcome back.

All my life I have been told "Talk when you win one" and now we're on #2 and they just can't stand it. The hate for Eagles fans is real.

On cue, I guarantee someone is going to comment on me saying this just to try to get me banned again.

They just can't quit us.

So we traded for an injury prone, slot corner who was good 2 years ago. Got it.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Here are Howie's trade deadline deals:

2023: Kevin Byard, Kentavious Street
2022: Robert Quinn
2021: Kay Vincent, Tay Gowan
2013: Isaac Sopoaga
2010: Mike Bell

Lotta hopes and dreams there that ended up being poo poo here.

So I know everyone was like "No way we should have paid 3 1st for Micah, look at how great we draft!"

Does everyone feel the same about "not throwing 3 1st at Myles Garrett"?

I'm a no on trading 3 firsts for Garrett, mainly because Howie has been so good at drafting in recent history. But it sure is tempting to see what that guy could do on this team with Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith.

In fairness saying something to the effect of “now we take their soul” immediately after their stud rookie RB had one of the most gruesome injuries might warrant a suspension. Maybe even more than 3 days? But woe is me lol.

I have a good track record here, I have only been banned once before and I think anyone that commented in that political thread at some point, can say they probably got banned,

But moving on, the Giants are dead in the water, The Commanders are dead in the water and the Cowboys, well they are in the water, but I don't think they know how to swim.

The Division is ours, and the next 2 games probably will be the 2 most important on the schedule, if we sweep , the #1 seed is well in sight and we can go back to arguing how the only reason the Eagles are ever good is bc

I was simply referring to the comment that you made in the game thread. It’s your prerogative to say what you want but it’s also Joe’s prerogative to suspend you when he wants.

As for the football stuff, I agree that the Eagles appear to have this division wrapped up. 1 seed TBD as you mention.
