It really was, even if in the end he still craps out. If Jones flames out totally in Pitt, then "Kevin Dotsons" it somewhere else in a year or two, it will just never be mentioned.

A lot of talking heads/fans like to point to Frazier and McCormack as "wins" for the current OL coach, buuut....Frazier was about as NFL ready as you could get for a C, and I am really not that sold on McCormack yet based on anything he's showed so far either. "He's been okay most of the time, I guess" is a feather in a cap now for a coach? Great.

Still might finish 2nd in the division given the Burrow injury. I dunno - actually the Bengals are probably better than us even without Burrow. Hell Cleveland might be as well. I’m glad my son’s soccer and baseball games mostly overlap with when the Steelers play. Gives me enough reason to not have to tune into this garbage.

I'm about done with this team, its the same thing every year, win a game, everyone is happy, next week, not only lose, but look awful. Probably beat NE by 3-4 pts, then get skulled by the Vikings. At that pace, its no wonder they hover around 9-8. Rooney is off counting his money, 24 hrs isnt a enough for the GM to work this roster, and Tomlin is oblivious to whats going on around him. Their asst coaches are airheads, and if they are not, Tomlin wont allow them to express themselves. Old over the hill team, over paid, under performing. But Rooney will endorse it for next year too. 7 picks in first 4 rds of the draft, 6 will be failures. But hey, Tomlin won a super bowl 16 years ago with Cowher's team. He's a one hat coach. Like Watt and Heyward needed to be one helmet players.

Its been clear this team needs a coaching enema for at least 4 or 5 years. Hell, probably been clear since the Blake Bortles debacle.

Nothing I've seen these first couple games makes me feel like anything at all has or will change. "9-8, back into playoffs final week of the season, destroyed in WC round". Rinse, repeat.

Have to see how it goes. Rodgers looks great especially considering his age, but there is zero chance he makes it through the season healthy. Miles Garrett already has Rodgers' Halloween decoration under construction for his yard.

The D made Jets and Seattle offenses look like world beaters. That can't continue and still win 9 games or contend for playoffs. Cinci might be the easiest 2 games on the schedule sadly with Burrow going down.

NE D pretty solid vs the run so it probably comes down to the pass game and keeping Rodgers upright. Landry and Williams will have to be dealt with on the line. If you can survive their pass rush, there are plays to be had vs that secondary and LBs. Warren and Muth vs Spillane and Elliss in coverage is the area I would try to exploit this week.

On defense, well what more can be said? Watt is not being the difference maker he's paid to be. The $20million secondary acquisition was victimized all over the field vs JSN and the gang, while Slay was the one victimized the week before. Queen and Wilson are out of position vs the run more times than I can count, with Payton looking awful at times. The scheme is the biggest flaw with this unit and has been for awhile, but some of the stars need to step up.

A-Aron has been impressive out there. Love the accountability and immediately calling out his receivers when they make mental mistakes. When he makes a bad throw, taps his chest to say that was on me. Let the receiver know they did their part.

Throw a 5 yard curl route & hope the receiver can make a play... 3rd and 2? throw it in the backfield where the TE catches the ball flat footed then try to evade pursuit. Rodgers has elevated the offense on his shoulders and is carrying the team. Don't recall the specifics, but play by play commentators dropped a stat about the yards after catch being impressive for the steelers. That speaks volumes to Rodgers hitting receivers in stride.

Yeah, the arm is still there, as is the recognition. That 3rd down play call for the winning TD: would any QB they've had since Ben even been given a shot to make that throw? Almost certainly not (Ben likely wouldn't have been either, but he'd have said "**** it!" and called something on his own anyway). Their red zone rate so far has been excellent this year, and Rodgers is pretty much the reason for it.

That mobility tho...egads. I'm afeared "He gon' die" at some point.


Pleasantly surprised they won, and the turnovers/sacks were certainly welcome. The extended drives given up/insta-completions in the middle vs. Cover 3/etc. on defense have GOT to stop though. The yardage against/TOP against was still ghastly. To have a game where you took it away, like, 5 times (and planted the opposing QB another 5 time) yet that team was still hanging around at the end of the game with a chance to tie/win with the ball at the end of the game? Nah, bruh. That shouldn't be happening.

When you watch guys who know ball breaking down the All 22, it's clearly schematic/on coaching.

The Steelers don't really go to much of any length at all to disguise their coverages. That deep crossing route vs. Cover 1 has been victimized for TDs all three games so far this year, and the safety has made the exact same (incorrect) read every time. The moment teams see them in that alignment, that deep crosser has been dialed up instantly. It's going to keep happening if they keep up the same level of "deception."

Happy to be 2-1 despite carrying the ugly win badge. Very lucky they aren't 0-3. NE could have scored 30+ easily if they didn't literally fumble the game away and almost won despite 5 turnovers.

Minnesota up next with backups QB Carson Wentz and RB Jordan Mason starting. Wentz didn't have to do too much while Mason ran well. Addison comes back after serving a 3 game suspension.
Minny D destroyed Cinci with Browning.

Pittsburgh last game before the bye. It's going to be huge for the D to stop the run and pressure Wentz. They won't get 5 turnovers every week. Harmon showed promise. Front 7 has to find a way to put the steel back in the curtain.

• Broderick Jones' footwork - atrocious. Feet come together too often instead of a nice kick or shuffle step. Arms and hands out wide like he's trying to be a soccer goalie. A man that athletic and physically gifted should be getting his hands into the chest of the defender and stonewall their momentum. I'm not an OL coach, but can see from a mile away how bad the technique is.
• Mason McCormick - plays upright like he's trying to defend basketball jumpers, prefers slapping arms to delivering a punch to the chest, ignores double team assignment patting the defenders shoulder in encouragement while looking to engage linebackers before they approach his gap, takes huge steps backward with his back foot while playing upright losing all leverage... it's like the coach Patty Cake teaches him what not to do
• Fautanu - shown good and bad. He's had some rough games starting out. Hope against hope he finds a mentor to help him develop.

Vegas likes the Vikes -2.5 with 41.5 point over/under. Game is winnable if the D comes through and Rodgers with Arthur Smith find ways to exploit the D despite the poor OL play. It's more likely Minnesota dominates the trenches and doesn't make the same mistakes NE did.

Minkah was basically invisible last two seasons and I think it is a fault with the scheme.

It's even "better" when they drop the only guy back there 30 yards off the ball in Cover 1, then have him break down every. Single. Effing. Time. on the shallower guy running right to left, only to pick off his own DB who is covering the deeper guy running left to right.

It's been freaking textbook for opponents so far this year. Big plays (and TDs, especially) abound. Fun! "We ran it the way it was drawn up. Sometimes you gotta tip your cap. The other guys get paid too, blah, blah, blah, requiem en terra pax, and so forth."

The league figured out **** freakin' LeBeau, eventually. For Tomlin to be so tone deaf to keep rolling out this same tired stuff expecting different results...it just comes off as pure hubris.

His snap count doubled from week 1 to week 2, then fell right back down week 3. Toward the end of last year, it wasn’t unusual for 3 Steelers WRs to get over 60% of offensive snaps in a game. This year, a lot of those 3rd WR snaps seem to be going to Jonnu.
