Reading a bit on a Steelers message board, they want Rodgers, cause they think he'll cause total destruction and chaos and get Tomlin fired.
I mean, I'm okay with that.
Rodgers a coach-killer for sure.

My cousin lives in Detroit and texts me all the time how much fun it is up there, I might be a Lions fan for a year or two, until the Steelers clean house and start a real rebuild.I've repeatedly have stated if the Steelers sign Rodgers I will not root for them this season and root for a different teamIs there a purpose to this beyond picking a random NFL team? (That statement sounds critical, but I like random generators, I'm legitimately just asking if I'm missing anything.) Whatever the case, I spun it and it landed on my Bengals. Weird!Looks like I'm a Packers fan

What has he done lately? He was fairly pedestrian last year and is 40 years old. He's at best a 1 or 2 year stopgap for a team that isn't going to the Super Bowl with or without him. Why waste $90M on a short term "fix"?Loving all the Rodgers hate. 10x pro bowler, 4x MVP, all-time best interception rate. Only knock is he has been largely average in the playoffs.
I suppose it could be foolish depending on just how much money he wants. But the MVP types are getting 50-60mil/yr now, so ... Nineteen QB's were over $30M in 2024. I think he's likely still better than 27th unless he drops off this year. A resurgence is always possible as well with a new team, new system. Had he been outright bad last year I might think he's washed. But when he's still averagey-or-so, and was ridiculously good in his prime, I would be at least optimistic to have him as my starter. What has he done lately? ETA from FOX postseason wrapup:
27. Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets (5)
He doesn't seem to be an NFL quarterback anymore.

If they really preferred Fields, they really misplayed this whole thing. Field’s contract isn’t bad at all. Keeping him would have felt like a plan was in place. If Rodgers gets that deal, then we look so foolish IMO.
We sign Slay 5 years too late. Let Roberts go so we can just have the Ravens ILBs. Sign DK to a huge deal instead of trading a 7th for Kirk for less and not creating a controversy. If we have to trade Pickens we are back in the same spot.
What are we doing? Where is the strategy?
I don't think it was weather the Steelers preferred Fields or not, they may have, but I am sure Fields didn't prefer the Steelers and had a bad taste in his mouth on how he was treated here.
Part of it is 100% an avenue to circumvent board rules and interject their own politics/agendas into every conversation they possibly can. Note how many Rodgers posts in just the past few pages can't hold back from bringing up non-football related crap in their posts. They want a cookie for the high moral fiber they put on display for randos on a football msg board lol.I suppose it could be foolish depending on just how much money he wants. Wasn't directed at you rock, more the ones who had to take "jabs" about vaccination stuff and other political nonsense. Look now I'm doing it too lol....Part of it is 100% an avenue to circumvent board rules and interject their own politics/agendas into every conversation they possibly can.
I can assure you I have plenty to say about his politics but will refrain and do so rather easily. All one had to do was watch him on the Jets last year to realize he was washed. And I'm talking about his arm talent, never mind his inability to scramble at all. He looked like a statue back there and it was like Tom Brady, only Rodgers couldn't move as well as Tom Brady could at the end of their careers.
If Rodgers were to drop the off-field distractions, forget about playing GM, and take about forty million less, then you might give him a shot given the Steelers' straits that they find themselves in.
But man, after watching him all year as a Jets fan, I don't know that you want him. The Giants might run it back with him, but they are desperate as desperate gets right now with both the front office guy and the coach being given an ultimatum. That's what is driving up Rodgers's price, I'll bet.

Bradford
But at this point as a fan I'd just rather stink, and stink bad enough to get a high draft pick
Hahaha crap... yeah a swing and a miss on that one. Well shows you how invested I was in the Steelers getting really any of these QB FAs lol.Wasn't directed at you rock, more the ones who had to take "jabs" about vaccination stuff and other political nonsense. Look now I'm doing it too lol....
I knew you weren't directing it at me. At least I hoped. Even if so, no problem. I was guilty of doing that after the Sandy Hook thing, a thing which I'm unsure happened. That got me a bit. But I sort of vowed to keep that and any other politics out of the Shark Pool and I think I have. I even cheered for Aaron when he was playing as a member of the Jets and all that weirdness was forgotten. By all accounts, he was a good teammate in the locker room and although his GM'ing was not outstanding, he really did want to win.
Bradford
This is awesome. Do you know how many times I did this with Sam when he played for the Jets. Darnold was Bradford in my world.
But at this point as a fan I'd just rather stink, and stink bad enough to get a high draft pick
I will give you credit for that. I can never watch a team tank or not go for a championship. I know it's not the way it's done, but I can't help it. Every fall starts anew, every hope springs eternal and all that.
Not sure I believe it, but please provide the link from AB. Worth the look alone.2 year deal according to AB. If true hopefully not more than $10 million.
Going to be tough rooting for my favorite team led by this fool.
Tomlin loves him and has been vocal about it for years. Obviously don't want to see it, but I won't be surprised.Just saw Steelers are interested in signing Nick Chubb

Where are you getting $10MM?2 year deal according to AB. If true hopefully not more than $10 million.

Steelers have reached out to ex-Titans/Steelers QB Mason Rudolph
Zero chance it's $10M. Typo?2 year deal according to AB. If true hopefully not more than $10 million.

I for one am shocked! Shocked I say! To think that the white smoke from ARods camp would not be forthcoming? Oh my! What now?I'd believe this way more than whatever BS AB is spewing. AR is in no hurry.
At that number, I totally agree it would be a mistake.Hearing Arod wants $50mm.
Why did the Steelers' accountant cross the road? To find out if Aaron Rodgers was serious about that $50 million and then laugh all the way back to the bank!Hearing Arod wants $50mm.
I think his age is a pretty big knock, but at this point he is probably the best option. I don't think he is capable of running Smith's offense though.Loving all the Rodgers hate. 10x pro bowler, 4x MVP, all-time best interception rate. Only knock is he has been largely average in the playoffs.
I would not resign Watt... I would look to trade him. He just isn't going to be a winner here for as great s he is. You can still get a load for him.I think Aaron Rodgers will not be signed to an astronomical amount of money. I personally wouldn't sign Aaron to any contract regardless of price. I'd go after Milton like Leeroy mentioned or another promising backup. Maybe take a chance on Kirk Cousins by discussing a trade with Atlanta.
Steelers will need to re-sign TJ whose contract ends after the 2025 season. JJ Watt on the McAfee show more or less discussed that the Steelers need to address this sooner or later or something to that affect.
But the Siberia Browns who screwed up QB compensation by signing Mr. Touchy Feely have also screwed up Edge Rusher pay by re-signing the guy who thinks helmets are for swinging, not wearing.
Aaron may want 50 million. TJ may deserve 40 million. But the way the Steelers are screwing up this offseason there better off trading TJ Watt and staying away from Aaron and self-implode for Archie or another QB in the 2026 draft.
I am not even sure who that is though. Most of the stop gaps are gone. Jameis? The only upside to signing Rodgers is that he's not a free agent, he's a cut, so he won't count against the comp picks. But the extra $20+ million he costs above replacement is not worth the pick we'd be saving.
Just sign a cheap 1-year stopgap instead of an expensive 2-year stopgap who's also an *******.
I definitely agree plus he's aging and has missed games due to having injuries in 3 of the last 4 years. He might have 2-3 great years left.I would not resign Watt... I would look to trade him.
