*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: good draft on paper. Back to the Rodgers wait (9 Viewers)

What's messed up the Steelers don't even have a backup signed. You could easily argue that they don't even have a legitimate 3rd string QB signed. Skylar comes off more like a practice squad player or a body for camp. The list of undesirables is dwindling.

Here are the still available 2025 QB Free Agents with their most recent team.

Aaron Rodgers - New York Jets
Russell Wilson - Pittsburgh Steelers
Jameis Winston - Cleveland Browns
Mac Jones - Jacksonville Jaguars
Trey Lance - Dallas Cowboys
Cooper Rush - Dallas Cowboys
Carson Wentz - Kansas City Chiefs
Mason Rudolph - Tennessee Titans

Already there. It's 4:20 on a Wednesday in March. Got my Zen on watching the show.

It’s pretty wild to make this big move for DK and then mess everything else up so bad.

If Fields was your guy, you cant let him leave the building. If Plan B was Russ you cant now just hope he waits around for Rodgers and signs as your apparent 4th choice.

It’s arrogant and ignorant.

And I hope I am wrong and we win the super bowl.

For the record I think we should have signed Fields for the same money the Jets did. Maybe they did offer that and Fiekds turned it down or maybe they didn’t.

Either way it’s not like we let Joe Burrow slip through our fingers. Would Fields be preferable to the remaining free agents? Sure but it’s not likely Fields was going to take this team deep in the playoffs.

Again let’s go cheap, hope for a miracle but expect it to go horribly wrong and address the situation in tge 2026 draft.

It's pretty embarrassing. Of course it's par for the course anymore with this organization.

I'm with whomever said they like J. Winston. Dude can put up points but also throws bad picks at times... very streaky. And he gave some hilarious interviews last year, too. That's where we are with the Steelers now, hoping for some good soundbites from the QB, lol.

Bringing back Russ is the most likely scenario it seems.

Bringing back M. Rudolph seems prudent as well.

Regardless of who plays QB this year, the ceiling for this team is to eek into the playoffs and be down 27-0 at the end of the first quarter of the first playoff game.

My prediction: Steelers will use Pickens and their 1st to move up top 5 and get Sanders from Colorado

It would take a lot more than that. I'd put Pickens' value in the last year of his rookie deal a little higher than a 2nd rounder. Probably in the area of a 2nd + a 5th.

It would take 21, Pickens, our first in '26, and maybe a little more to pull that off.

I doubt they get better than a 4th given his attitude and need to be paid.

I wouldn't trade up for Sanders, at all. If he's there at 21 I consider taking him.

"I felt in the last four games, Shedeur was very uneasy in the pocket. Like, very seldom did I see him strong in the pocket, get back and set, and read and deliver the ball. It was like he was always uneasy back there."

I'm waiting for the man
Twenty-six dollars in my hand
He's never early he's always late
First thing you learn is you always got to wait

I'm waiting for the man

Rock it home . . .

What's the chance that AR "mulls it over" for a week and then decides to retire? :D

Professional athletes almost never know when to get out of the game and hang on for way too long. I'd guess, if the money is right, he'll play.
I dunno man, this looks like a guy mulling retirement. ;)

As of yesterday what I "heard" was that agent and Steelers were in agreement but Rodgers was not reachable . . . . but again, who the F knows what is real. Which is the opposite of the Fields situation where allegedly Fields was down to stay and then his agent put his foot down to explore free agency for more guaranteed money.

I listened to a podcast yesterday, GM Shuffle, which was recorded on Monday, before Fields agreed with the Jets. Mark Dominik ,ex Tampa GM, is the host of the show and I don't really listen to it that much since Mike Lombardi left but got around to checking out this show. Reason I'm bringing it up is he was saying the Steeler's preferred Rodgers or Wilson over Fields. Not sure if it was his opinion or what he heard but he seemed pretty sure of himself. His main rationale was once DK was brought in it signaled an aggressive win now mindset and vet QB with a good downfield passing attack and the defense is enough to put Pittsburgh in SB contention. Make of that what you will.

IMO this is probably a half truth. NFLN was reporting yesterday he went for a 2 hour swim in the ocean during which time no one could reach him. I'm sure he's been able to be reached now, especially since everyone knows where he is now so doubt not reaching him is an issue right now.

Which brings us to the side of Rodgers that is so annyoing. He's a passive/aggressive attention mongerer and can't help himself. I don't care a whole lot about that, seems like Steelers have been on a run going all the way back to big Ben of oddball or unlikeable QB's, Fields was probably the biggest exception.

Runnin' it back with Mason. 😂

Sounds like backup money, but egads.
I was just sitting in a drive thru line about 10 minutes ago thinking to myself we really need get a backup QB. With no second we can't be sure a viable backup will last till round 3 and the market is slimming. So makes total sense and he's got enough arm at least get it deep to DK and George.

Thanks for sharing this. Interesting.

One thing really jumps out at how delusional "the Steelers" are if they believe the missing piece is a good downfield passing attack to WIN A SUPERBOWL. Did they witness how badly the DEFENSE was humiliated down the stretch and especially in the playoffs? Year before Mason Rudolph and the offense were let down by that defense. Reminds me of the South Park hybrid car episode where hybrid owners loved to smell their own farts.

I dont totally hate it as a backup move.

It just is so 🤌 with how the past two or three years have gone for them at the position.

Steelers meeting with Kyle Juszczyk today per Schefter
They may seriously have a two-play playbook. Run up time middle (with no RB mind you) and throw it deep.
I think they are looking better than last year... They added a top 10 WR, and lost Harris... Big improvements IMO... Mason won't be bad if he starts. They aren't winning the Super Bowl, but seems like they are starting to go a different direction.. Adding a FB would be great.

Yeah, that is the problem. If they are going to rebuild, you don't add players. If you are trying to win, you can't be where they are in the QB market.

Mason is terrible. He is a weak QB2

He was 3-0 at end of 2022 and looked good.. I will excuse how he looked in Tennessee cause that is a joke of franchise.

Draft Dart, Shough, Howard, whoever, Leonard or Milroe, just get a young body in the room. Its next year they need to think about. Will have 3 extra comp picks. Lose enough and get a top 10 pick, get the QB. Probably not Dart, but if they think he is the future guy, go for it.

Why is getting DK even in a rebuild bad? He is 27, they have him for 5 years.. The Steelers don't need a total rebuild. They need holes fixed.
We are seeing some WR's peter out at 29/30 and look borderline toast. Some even sooner. His skill set is not one I view as aging well. Sure he'll always have his size but his whole game is size and speed. He's stiff, speed reliant and not techinically savvy.

The idea of say blowing off 2025 so you can spend a second round pick who will be 28 years old WR who turns 29 later in the 2026 season and start the clock on a 4 year $132m extension seems less then appealing to me.

Since the trade was made I have found myself at a disconnect with Steeler fans who both love the DK trade and would not mind a tank or bad season to get a high draft pick. I just don't see how those align.

I always liked Mason and glad he's back. I wouldn't even care if he was the starter. Even tho he was brought in as a back up obviously.

On the other hand, there's not many good quarterbacks available. A-rod is not garunteed. It's a possibilty Mason is competing in training camp with a rookie or Jameis Winston or Gardner Minshew.

Sounds like that could be the plan D.

Probly. But serious question, how many starting qbs are still available? Mr. Unlimitted and Rodgers. Who am I missing.

Thatp is it for “starting” QBs.
