*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: good draft on paper. Back to the Rodgers wait (11 Viewers)

So far it sounds like we're definitely taking Sanders, Dart, Milroe, Hampton, Henderson, Burden, Egbuka, Harmon, and Grant depending on who you ask.

Feels like this is the most confusion around a 1st round pick since 2018. 2019 it felt like we were going ILB if we could, 2021 we were locked in on Najee, 2022 most people said QB, 2023 most people said OT, and 2024 felt like OT or C. This year it could be QB, DL, RB, WR, or possibly another position if they fall to 21.

Fingers crossed there's a run on a position of need like OT and someone wants to move up a handful of picks, or if someone want's to jump the Chargers for Loveland? I think there's few teams that want to move up and lots that want to move back. If we can move down and gain a 2nd or 3rd an still get one of the top 4 DL that would be amazing.

There are way too many serviceable RBs in the draft for the Steelers to consider taking one in the first round. My bet is that the Steelers try to trade back and pick up another draft pick to make up for the 2nd they already traded away. If the can't trade back, it's almost certainly DT or QB.

The Steelers need an elite QB to do any damage in the playoffs but just drafting one high every year seems illogical. Once you draft a QB high, it seems that you need to give him at least 3 years to see if he can develop into a stud. You also need to build a strong team around him. Those high draft picks are critical to hit on. Can’t just keep going QB every year.
The 3 year thing is the old days, IMO. Today’s game you stick him in year 1 and in most cases you know pretty quickly.
With that logic guys like Hurts and Allen would never have developed into the players they are today.

Apparently today is when they do a full internal mock draft and finalize their board basically. In past years I have seen some of this and it was a predictor of their first several picks and late round targets, though I didn't see it last year other than hearing they were taking Logan Lee at some point.

What I hear right now is they want Harmon or Grant and are hoping to trade back and still get one of them while getting back into the 2nd round or an earlier pick in the 3rd (but so far not much interest in their pick from other teams). I think if they get a QB it's going to be Howard, Shough, with outside shot of Milroe -- but not in the 1st. Could all be false info though after the Rodgers visit leak . . . .
pencil in DK as the 2nd round pick and the steelers are already draft day winners. keep that 1st for DL or someone who slips too far. trading back RD1 is great if you can still get one of your targets, just hope they don't sacrifice too much value playing games.

would rather see the team trade pickens for draft capital this year or next. been expecting noise from GP threatening to hold out/sit in.

Doesn't the bolded seem like a given at this point? The problem is that somebody would have to be willing to give him a contract so the Steelers would get basically nothing in return.

Have not heard much on the GP trade front of late. There seemed to be a lot of noise there earlier, but nothing recently. It could still happen though.

They also apparently really love Tyler Warren and Treyveion Henderson
glad to hear they love Warren. he is perfect for an Arthur Smith offense. while not a position of need, he'd quickly become TE1. GREAT all around TE and some buzz Loveland (WR disguised as TE) goes off the board before him. Warren could be a guy too talented to pass on if he does slip

Henderson gives me a Gibbs vibe. Think he will be a special player wherever he lands. Biggest fear is he gets scooped by KC.

Tried a walkthemock with 1 trade where the point value was in Detroit's favor. Lost value based off Leeroy's take there isn't much interest from other teams but think they can get one of their guys later than 21. Even if we don't get full value in return, it's worth it as long as we still get one of our guys.

Acquired Via Traded Away
1:28, 2:28 DET 1:21, 3:19

This draft isn't subtle. Hit the DL and RB positions hard with a sprinkle of developmental QB and CB.
Jaylen Warren only on a 1 year contract is a sign the team is preparing for a hard reset at the position.
DL struggles to stop the run especially towards the end of the season as the vets wear down. I believe Omar is addressing it in the draft at least 2x.

Pick Player Pos College
1:28 Kenneth Grant - DL Michigan Perfect fit for the DL and fills a critical need
2:28 TreVeyon Henderson - RB Ohio State Criminal to get a 1st round talent round 2. Not realistic, so ran to the podium.
4:21 Jamaree Caldwell - DL Oregon Double down at DL. Massive body vs run with surprising agility. Needs seasoning but very promising future.
5:24 Kyle McCord - QB Syracuse Had a top 30 visit with the Steelers. Low draft capital should keep expectations in check and give him time to learn.
6:9 Tahj Brooks - RB Texas Tech Under rated RB in this class and compliments TreVeyon perfectly. 1st & 2nd down back creating yards with EXCELLENT vision and patience. Thunder to Henderson's lightning.
7:13 Justin Walley - CB Minnesota CB team brought in for top 30 visit.

I don't think they will double dip at RB, but otherwise, that draft would be great and in-line with their thinking.

If they are going to take McCord they may as well skip the pick. He is absolutely atrocious.

Have heard more about them EXTENDING him than I have about them trading him, crazily enough. I can't really imagine a world where that truly happens before the season, though.

Could maybe see the team contemplating it in an effort to "cheap out", but Pickens would need to have the world's worst agent to agree to anything below market (unless, of course, he thinks there's zero chance he can ball out in this offense and then hit FA...in which case, why agree to a contract to stay in that offense?).

Agree with you. I’d rather see OL, LB, WR or Safety there.

Was reading tea leaves based off top 30 visits and nuggets. If the team likes McCord enough to bring him in for a top 30, won’t be surprised to see his name called day 3.

I know that RB's do not hold the value that they've historically held, but I just heard an interview with Ashton Jeanty and could totally see the Steelers trading up to get him. Very impressive guy and he can play a little too. Jeanty + Warren + DK + Pickens? They could make Mason Rudolph look good.

Khan is too much a of a "value"/analytics guy for me to buy he'd ever be onboard for trading up for a non-premium position (unless you're talking "Barry Sanders" level RB types). Not saying it couldn't happen. Saying if it did, I'd have to assume it was probably at someone else's directive.

Running back is just stupidly deep this draft. It'd be pretty backward to deal up for one who isn't some "Barry Sanders level" guy. None of these dudes are in that class, IMO anyway.

Same goes for DL, honestly. They need a couple in a bad way, but it's an incredibly rich crop so dealing up for one who wasn't "Aaron Donald level" would be almost willfully obtuse.

My worst case scenario is that we reach pick 21 and all 4 of the top DL are gone. If that's the case I hope we trade back twice. Trade back with Tex or KC moving up for an OL, and then trade back with Cleveland/Giants/NO moving up into the 1st to grab a QB with 5th year option.

We give 21 and 123 to KC for 31 and 63.
Then we give 31 and 83 for 34 and 65.

So we end up with 34, 63, 65, 156, 185, 229.
  • 34 - TreVeyon Henderson, RB
  • 63 - Darius Alexander, DL
  • 65 - Azareye'h Thomas, CB
  • 156 - Jaylin Lane, WR
  • 185 - Ajani Cornelius, OT
  • 229 - Yahya Black, DL

Trading back 1 or 2 times would be ideal. This team has too many holes to fill with just two picks through Day1/Day2 of the draft.

Extending Pickens for a large amount, or trading him outright, will be the only options available to avoid the off season drama he will surely take part in, ("hold-in" is my bet).

Why do I feel more and more like Sanders is ending up in PIT? It’s a weak QB class and most of the teams with picks in the top 20 don’t need „those“ QBs.

Won't surprise me if he's out of the league in a couple of years. He's a head case waiting to explode. Moved him this off-season in a dynasty league as I believe he poses more risk than most are aware of.

If they don’t trade him he is stuck. His options are to hold out or to play well to maximize for FA in 2026.

I’m pretty confident Pickens will make the stupid choice.
With or without a contract he will have to take the field at some point, but there will be drama either way if there's no extension and no trade.

I like Pickens and think he's immature and misunderstood but not a bad character. I understand his frustration being in an offense with sub par QB play where targets are hard to come by and your team has spent the last two off-seasons trying, and ultimately succeeding, in throwing a giant bag of money on another WR. I think we are going to end up trading him for less then we paid for DK. In end put me down as saying we got zero better at WR, just older, more expensive and lost draft capital but did get a more mature professional. On the whole it's negative to me .I am ok being a man on an island with this opinion.

Hearing some player trade rumblings that aren’t Pickens. Could be interesting but not likely.

They want to trade back also apparently but no traction yet. Harmon, Grant, or Henderson it seems.

The Sanders stuff feels like pure ESPN clickbait, but maybe we are all getting trolled.

Shedeur’s draft interest carries an air of intrigue, much like Malik Willis a few years ago. The Steelers are projected to make their pick at 10:35 PM Eastern Time. I might crash for an hour or two and use the DVR to speed through the draft.

I want Sanders. I understand all of the drawbacks. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s a bust. I’m not even sure I like the guy.

But I believe QB is so important you have to take the chance anyhow.

If you don't have a QB you should draft, draft, and draft again until you do.

That just keeps setting the team back. Even the best prospects bust at an alarming rate.

If the Steelers draft a QB, they better hope that the offensive line develops and improves significantly next year. If not, they are setting the guy up to fail and it’s kind of pointless to draft QB. That’s the part that concerns me the most.

Loveland over Warren is what the Steelers needed for a shot he tumbles down the board. Indianapolis linked with TE round 1 quite a bit. Sweat begins if Tyler makes it past 14. Definition of BPA too good to pass up

Prospects bust at all positions. Tackle has a terrible bust rate.

Even if there is a bigger risk, it doesn't matter. You need an elite QB to win a SB.
