3rd Shark Pool Mock Draft (1 Viewer)

1.27 Indianapolis selects Robert Ayers, DE TennesseeWould have rather had Hood or Jerry here but Ayers is nice too. Indy has Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney who are smaller DE who excel as pass rushers. Ayers is a guy who can come in and rotate with the Mathis and Freeney and is too much value to pass on at this point in the draft.
I wonder if he could also slide inside to DT. Don't the Colts have DT's that are a bit smaller (as far as DT's go) anyway?
That was my thinking. Maybe he can move inside on obvious passing downs like what Charles Grant of NO has done before and what Justin Tuck has done for the Giants. Either way, I think it would be a great pickup if Ayers were to slide that far.

He is very versatile-From NFL.comOverviewRegarded as one of the nation's premier defensive players coming out of Marlboro County High School, Ayers struggled to earn his place with the Volunteers until his senior season.Renewed dedication helped him emerge as one of the few bright spots during a troublesome season for the Vols. He would go on to earn All-Southeastern Conference honors and shared the Andy Spiva Award, given to the team's most improved defensive player. For all of Ayers' physical ability, the coaches admit that he just recently emerged following a few inconsistent seasons."When Robert got here, he thought he was God's gift to football," former head coach Phillip Fulmer said. "He wouldn't listen to the upperclassmen -- not in a bad way, but he just didn't take to coaching very well. (As a senior) he's starving for coaching, and he's giving great effort. He's turned into a big-time SEC defensive end."Ayers wanted to be a linebacker but agreed to slide to defensive tackle, where the Vols had serious depth concerns. It would have been easy for Ayers to fight even a situational role in his last chance to show NFL scouts his ability at end. However, he was more concerned with his last chance to win an SEC championship."Obviously, I feel like I'm better off the edge," he said. "But I'll do whatever the coaches ask me to do," Ayers stated prior to his banner senior season.

Pick via PM from Domination:

1.30 Tennessee selects Alphonso Smith, CB Wake Forest

If this is the Colts pick - they still will need another DT in the draft who can play NT or UT on run downs.

I am just going to make the Pitt pick now since we have a few people here waiting for their picks now.

1.32 Pittsburgh selects Alex Mack, C California

2.01 The Detroit Lions select Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose St.

In researching this team, it's rather remarkable how bereft of talent they are at the DL spot. Time to change that. I tried to trade up for Ayers but it didn't work out, although Gilbert could prove to be as good or better.

The Lions' draft so far:

1.01 Eugene Monroe, OT Virginia

1.20 Larry English, DE Northern Illinois

2.01 Jarron Gilbert, DE San Jose State

2.02 Clint Sintim OLB, Virginia

This is a pick many Patriot's fans see as logical with Sintim playing for Al Groh in a 3-4 defense.

Pick via PM from Domination:1.30 Tennessee selects Alphonso Smith, CB Wake Forest
The Titans tried to move up in the draft multiple times, but it was not to be.In Smith, the Titans get a shutdown corner who is not afraid to help in run support. He has a nose for the ball, and is a natural playmaker. Smith will be the replacement for Harper by next year, and I think will push him for the starting spot this year. Teaming him with Finnegan will give the Titans a dynamic duo for years to come. The only knock on Smith is his size, but there have been numerous elite CBs who have been small in stature.

2.03 The STL RAMS select: Louis Delmas S Western Michigan

We need a hitter in the secondary and someone with cover skills and Delmas brings them both with him. Packaging him and Atogwae together in the secondary could be a bright sight for the Rams. I was thinking a wr here as one guy fell that I didn't think would but our D needs some aggression in it and Louis brings it hard.

2.05 - Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut

The Seahawks need a RB, and there's a guy whom I think will be a very good one here for us at 2.05. Brown runs with power & and is compact, and he can catch the ball as well. He was very productive in college, excelled at the combine, and is a high character player. We feel that he will make an exellent pro.

Seattle draft so far:

1.22 Eben Britton, T

2.05 Donald Brown, RB

2.20

3.04

3.22

plus an extra 2010 2nd & 4th.

The Oakland raiders are now on the clock

Oakland send 40th and 5.6 for 38th overall

2.06 Oakland Raiders pick Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland

Vastly underutilized WR that has the blazing speed that Davis covets. Dropping a 5th to move up and make sure I got him was a no brainer given some prognosticators had the Raiders drafting him with the #7 overall.

PMing next

Did you think Jax would be targeting DHB ..??The only way giving up a 5th makes sense to move up two spots when Oakland has so many other holes.I like that Oak landed DHB. ..should be a good fit, but could also see him in a Jax uniform.. interested to hear what Jax was targeting here.

That is exactly it. The Jags completely purged their WR's (Jones, Williams, Porter). sure they signed Holt, but they need a lot more than that.I also don't think the Raiders have too many holes that can't be filled in the rest of the draft and a couple of 2nd tier FA's.

Great job Atomic Punk. As a life long Raiders fan I would be very happy if our first two picks were B.J. Raji and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Jacksonville was targetting DHB, hence the possible trade down.

However, we'll take the guy we think could be even better.

Percy Harvin, WR Florida

Gives Stafford something to work with.

2.09 Green Bay - Ron Brace, DT Boston College

The Packers currently are thin on the DL, even considering they are planning on switching to a 3-4. I didn't see any 3-4 DEs I liked here, so I went with a player who has the size to be a NT in a 3-4 defense. I am not certain that Ron Brace will be dominent, as he played next to Raji and probably didn't get the same attention from the offense that other top DTs got, but at worst he can be a rotation guy at this position. At Best, I just filled the hardest spot to fill in a 3-4 with a second round pick

I didn't really consider other players, this was an obvious pick where value met need to me.

Picks so far

1.09 - Michael Oher

2.09 - Ron Brace

3.09 -

3.19 -

My apologies. But this was my pick anyway so GJ Buffaloes!I promise I'll make the next selectionMack was the man #1 on the Steelers list (besides the top 5 OT); with the versatility to fit in at RG instantly, with the ability to move into starting C within 2 years. Mack is intelligent, and loves to make contact. He will be a stalwart on the line for the next decade.** that and Idiot Boxer and the Steeler faithful are filled with glee! **

1:24 - The Atlanta Falcons select Evander "Ziggy" Hood; DT (Missouri)

The Falcons commence their defensive 'replenishment' process by getting a high effort good all-around prospect in Hood. The Falcons depth chart at DT consists of:

Jonathan Babineaux (solid)

Trey Lewis (showed well as a rookie in 2007, but coming off two torn ACL's to same knee)

Kindal Moorehead (journeyman veteran)

...so the need for DT preempts other areas of the defense like LB, CB or S.
Like this pick, with Cushing off the board early. Don't like the gonzo trade tho.

I almost took him in the 1st for Indy but Ayers was just sitting there.

I don't like the Rams pick in the 2nd. They already have Atogwe and Butler at safety.

Bigger needs are WR and MLB. Heyward-Bey or Laurinaitis are ideal for 2.3 if they're there for the Rams and I would do backflips if they got either one there.

2.11, SAN FRAN 49ERS select PHIL LOADHOLT, OT

Being a fan of Singletary, I'm not sure it could turn out any better for his first 2 picks as a head coach. Loadholt may need time to develop, but hopefully Marvel Smith can serve as a stopgap until that time. Get to the QB, and run the football with authority. Perfect so far.

Value meets need again. A tough guy to work the middle of the field. :hot:

I don't like Laurinaitis and DHB is a project that I'm not wanting to try. The Rams want football players, tough football players and I think Delmas fits that mold perfectly. Remember that Atogwa was franchised last year and is only under contract for one year with the Rams. There are plenty of good lb's in this draft and since all those wr's fell to the second I think we can get some good value in the third or fourth round.Plus, it never hurts to have depth in the secondary.

The Houston Texans are evaluating several trade offers, and should be able to make an announcement very shortly.

They are ready, in any case, to make their normal pick should negotiations not reach a conclusion shortly.

Back at ya soon!
