Exactly. Everybody know he was traded as aI don't understand what Andrew Luck has to do with anything.Andrew Luckwow, Harbough must really have hated him
For some reason a few years back when that was the overuse phrase of the week or month or whatever, they got burr someplace about it. I know I used it like once or twice and got handslap for it. Next thing I know, the yawns started coming up in place of the T. Bell phrase. Most of those hot catch phrases die pretty organically on their own. Thought it too funny that the mods thought it tainting threads or whatever.Exactly. Everybody know he was traded as aI don't understand what Andrew Luck has to do with anything.Andrew Luckwow, Harbough must really have hated him.eta: not sure where that yawn came from.eta X2 That is too funny! "To motivate tatum bell" is automatically changed to a yawn.

Bengals got ripped off.

He wants to strip his team of any and all talent so he can win the luck sweepstakes. He sees how bad Cincy has been in the preseason and figures that they are in the running for the #1 pick so why not give up one of your talented players to help Cincy become just a little bit better.I realize this is aI don't understand what Andrew Luck has to do with anything.Andrew Luckwow, Harbough must really have hated him
I get the whole Suck for Luck strategy. You seem to think higher of Mays than you should. He hasn't shown himself to be very good. Suck for Luck has nothing to do with this trade.Harbaugh was cutting his losses with a bad draft pick from the previous regime. He wants to strip his team of any and all talent so he can win the luck sweepstakes. If they believe Mays is a mistake it is best to cut ties asap and get whatever you can instead of trying to bleed a stone.Mays is not good enough to win games for the Bengals. Even at USC they had to use him differently than you would normally play a safety simply due to the fact he's not that good. Second round pick or not, he was a mistake. It wasn't the first time a team and pundits were wrong and it won't be the last. Niners and Bengals are both going to be in the Luck sweepstakes but I can't see how Mays would make any difference for either team. Wear your foil if you'd like.Correct me if I am wrong but wasnt mays a rookie last year? Seems a bit quick on the trigger for the niners if you ask me. I seem to recall a lot of pundits were saying Mays was a steal in the second round. Thein me thinks this had everything to do with Luck seeing the timing and the team he was traded to.
How do you explain keeping Alex Smith then?I get the whole Suck for Luck strategy. You seem to think higher of Mays than you should. He hasn't shown himself to be very good. Because they're the same pundits who had him as a top 10 pick as a junior and were stunned when he didn't come out in the draft because he knew he needed to go back to school to work on his game. Which never materialized. Pretty sure the only meaningful play he made was when he recovered the blocked punt for a TD by toe-tapping the back of the end zone.Correct me if I am wrong but wasnt mays a rookie last year? So San Fran is in the business of giving a guy one year to see if he is any good or not?Because they're the same pundits who had him as a top 10 pick as a junior and were stunned when he didn't come out in the draft because he knew he needed to go back to school to work on his game. If that is true, the owner of the organization should give every ticket holder their money back. I don't believe any team purposely tanks games.I believe Cowherd did a lengthy bit on how everyone in the San Fran organization is okay with literally tanking the season in order to get Luck.
Many of us have touched on this very issue in many other threads. Search a bit and you'll see several different beliefs why this took place. I won't hijack this thread to discuss it.How do you explain keeping Alex Smith then?![]()
It's clear you're determined to believe this is a conspiracy. Sometimes you can see a guy simply isn't any good. When you also consider they can replace him with someone better AND other teams are willing to give you a draft pick to get someone you have no need, why wouldn't they dump him?So San Fran is in the business of giving a guy one year to see if he is any good or not?Because they're the same pundits who had him as a top 10 pick as a junior and were stunned when he didn't come out in the draft because he knew he needed to go back to school to work on his game. I was only half kidding anyway. Didn't know it was a deeper conspiracy then first believed. Many of us have touched on this very issue in many other threads. I was glad the 49ers got what they could for him, but he never seemed to be a headcase. Even after the mass email was sent out about his availability, Mays continued to show up & practice with the 3rd string without creating any drama. As a 49er fan, I wish him well, he just didn't work out.from what i understand, mays was a headcase on top of everything. bengals seem to specialize in that kind of player.
The whole thing would make sense if Mays had talent, but he doesn't. He's terrible and I think it's obvious to everyone but the Bengals that he is awful. There was plenty of talk, and it was pretty clear, that Taylor Mays was getting cut soon. That the Bengals traded a draft pick for him is laughable. He wants to strip his team of any and all talent so he can win the luck sweepstakes. He sees how bad Cincy has been in the preseason and figures that they are in the running for the #1 pick so why not give up one of your talented players to help Cincy become just a little bit better.I realize this is aI don't understand what Andrew Luck has to do with anything.Andrew Luckwow, Harbough must really have hated himbut I am rolling with it.
I agree with this, they are not going to be bad enough to get Luck, they still have a talented run stopping defense, a pro-bowl TE and RB, and are improved at WR and probably pass defense. Not to mention they get to play the NFC west like always, the only team that seems to be getting better are the Rams, and even with Kolb (who is still relatively unproven for all the hype he has) Arizona is still very beatable. Mays was traded because he was a project that was not improving, and there may or may not have been personality clashes.I predict a record of somewhere between 6-10 to 8-8, but I don't think any of those will be low enough for the #1 pick.Mays was a rookie last year butthis years' coaching feels he's too much of a project and they'd be better off trading him for a pick to get a guy they want. Just trimming the deadwood I suppose but then why is Alex Smith still around? I doubt this has anything to do with the Luck situation. The 9ers will probably suck but won't get close enough to get Luck unless they trade up. If they finish 10 or below they could possibly offer their draft pick and Kaepernick if the #1 pick team needs a QB. Still, I don't think the 49ers have a shot at Luck and merely traded away Mays cause they felt he wasn't right for their system and too much of a project.
According to PFT, the 49ers got a 7th round pick in 2013. Talk about next to nothing. Will he even make the Bengals final 53?@ Adam Schefter49ers traded S Taylor Mays to Bengals for an undisclosed draft pick. Pfft
Its almost unthinkable to get rid of a 2nd round pick for basically nothing a year after he was drafted. I guess since Harbaugh's a new coach he can clean house from the old regime. I'm glad the Eagles stayed away from him. I was one of the ones that thought he had some skill. Thats why I'm not a scout in the NFL.According to PFT, the 49ers got a 7th round pick in 2013. Didn't see the game but I'm sure Zimmer is using him the same way he used Roy Williams in Dallas. You could have made a nice greatest hits video on Roy Williams, but he was still a liability any time he went into coverage. The Zimmer scheme is much better for Mays so maybe he becomes a solid player. As a 49er fan I wish Mays the best, happy to get a 7th for a guy who was going to be waived.Am I the only guy who watched Mays absolute tear up the colts offense last night. I get hisnfaultsbwith SF, but the bengals have a totally different base defense, and they can use his talents a lot more. If you disagree, watch the first quarter of last nights game.
