4th annual FBG chess tourney- Congrats to Kasparov! 1st place (1 Viewer)

Pav or bones - can I get the PGN send to me for your game? shawnzo35@yahoo.com

I know it seems silly, but I'm putting together ChessBase files for you guys just because I have nothing better to do with this expensive chessbase software.

Appreciated in advance.

Still really wish I could get the tim game (and all the games from this past round) where his opponent blundered this past round as well. I don't care if they aren't worth viewing, I'm storing them and averaging the centipawn losses - building opening trees for each player - etc, heck even trying to be vigilant about people using assistance which is pretty easy to ascertain over the course of 4 or 5 games to benefit our future tournies.

Thanks
I just sent you mine and Kaspy's game.

Kaspy beats kutta. Really fun game. He's pretty damn good.
Thanks! You pushed me to the limit, I was trying to keep it quiet and got caught offside. I still think you could've forced a draw but it's very complex after your knight sac. Worth studying for sure.

JB timed out 14 moves in, but I'm fine starting another game & recreating the same moves & picking it up from there if that works.
Hmm, I was playing him in a friendly and he up and cancelled/timed out the other day with no warning. Hope he's ok.
He had just messaged me the move before that he had bee slammed at work, but was over the hump & should be able to move more quickly - then timeout. I'm betting he'll be back here soon, and I'd like to finish our game. Dunno what the official tourney rules are here, but being the last round, it is less important, I imagine.
JB is back after having been derailed by a power outage. We're recreating our game & playing it out.

Round 6 (left side white)

Kasparov (5) vs. Kutta (4) (1-0)

dancingbones (4) vs. John Bender (4) in progress

Aerial Assault (3) vs. andyjayhawker (3.5) (0-1)

Pyschopav (3) vs. timschochet (3.5) (0-1)

Nysfl2 (3) vs. Joffer (3) (0-1)

Unalias (2.5) vs. McGarnicle (3) (1-0)

AAA Batteries (2.5) vs. Abraham (2) (1-0)

Juxtatarot (1.5) vs. Nero (1.5) (1-0)

Getzlaf (0) vs. Rdrunner (2) (0-1)

Just waiting on dancingbones vs. John Bender to finish the tournament.

DancingBones and I finally finished -

I won a slav exchange game - lichess: http://en.lichess.org/3PziZ2pO

Very safe game, won an easy exchange early on and got the rooks very active which is about when I knew this was over.

Your pawn wedge in the center was a bit concerning there for a bit if you pressed the issue db. I'll go through it more in depth later on.

Sorry about that - I got really sick for about 3 weeks there and we had to restart after I timed out due to losing power. This also helped me think for about 4 hours between moves  Thanks for your patience DB and I appreciate the game and tim for running things

Side brag: I'm very close to breaking 2000 rating on lichess for the first time ever :confetti:

I love this site - they ban cheaters instantly - sometimes right in the middle of a game. The hourly tournies are also awesome - as are the training functions.

2 Months til the VA Chess Open :excited:

Fun game JB.

As I messaged in game, I think I missed a chance by passing on 16 Ne4. Moved my Q instead, and never felt like I had anything really going after that.

Just plain missed the rook fork on move 20, and that really did me in.

Thanks to tim for organizing and congrats to kaspy for taking home the crown!

Congratulations to Kasparov and to everyone for participating!

And now I have a proposal.

It doesn't seem like any of us that played Kasparov were able to give him too much of a challenge. Perhaps if we put our collective heads together, we can.

I propose that, similar to the end of last tournament we form a team here- in this thread, and challenge Kasparov. Kasparov would have to agree not to read this thread. We would discuss every move at length together, and see if by teaming up we can actually beat this guy. After the game, Kaspy would join us and analyze his thought process.

Post if you're interested.

I'd be game

i don't mean to brag or anything but i just made it to 1200 after taking down some schmo at 1250. Unstoppable force.

I'll play, don't know how much help I'll be but will certainly learn something!

OK Kasparov agrees, he says he is very honored and that he WAS challenged in the tourney (not by me for sure!)

I'm going to start a new thread for this.

I'm in, although I think I've actually gotten worse...

But maybe I can get a buddy or two to participate too.

In for the post tourney team games as well

In.  Please make time to finish games reasonable.

Plus, it should be a tournament where everyone plays everyone as white and black.  Takes longer, but  it's a better tourney.

If we're lenient on the time length of games and everyone plans each other twice, this would take several months.

We can be lenient but not too lenient.  People have been pretty good about pace of play in the past imo.

Keep in mind a double round robin generates n(n-1) games.
