5 ROUND MOCK DRAFT W/ COMP PICKS (1 Viewer)

If nobody is looking to trade up, I'll have a pick shortly.

PM me with offers if you are interested.
PHI has a few directions I could go here with a couple of prospects worthy of the pick, however I am going RB.PHI needs a complement to Westbrook who can also carry the mail if/when he gets hurt. Although his pass game (blocking/catching) needs some work to fit in perfectly, his tough inside running and good speed make this a very good pick.

PHI Selects Eric Shelton, RB Louisville
I'll trade you my third and fifth rounders for Shelton. I was about to PM you to see if you wanted to trade the pick and you posted a minute before I could do so.
I'll take a look and let you know later tonight. No reason to hold up the draft, so everyone continue.

Voting on Houston #78 pick in the third soon? Anyone have suggestions? I think LB Lance Mitchell OK would be great for them

When I have not shown up for my pick? Guys have went for days and the one day a week I am not plastered to my computer I get maybe an hour before I get rushed.... Texans select Logan Mankins OL Fresno State

Mankins played well at LT in college, but probably moves inside to guard in the pros. Agrressive, blocker who is physical at the poit of attack. The texans add a depth player who will be expected to push the starters in a year or two.

I appologize seriously. More than the two hour time limit is since the last pick thats the only reason I said anything. Nice pick though.

#79 Washington Redskins select DE Jovan Haye Vanderbilt 6'2 284 4.75

Very good speed...Great size...Very athletic...All-around player who can rush the passer as well as play the run effectively...Quick with good closing speed...Very smart...Also a team captain.

Needs to find his optimal playing weight Led the SEC w/ 8.5 sacks as a junior at 255. Got to 280 and and maintained his speed but had only 1 sack in '04 but saw double teams all year long. He should get down to 270 in the NFL to be effective as both a pass rusher and a run defender.

With the 80th overall Pick the Vikings take: Chris Kemoeatu OG Utah

Mike Tice quote as saying "We need some depth along or O-Line. We under stand this guy has mean streak and we hope to focus that energy in to the correct channels. "

Strengths: Massive size and frame...Strong as an ox...Can just maul defenders at times...A dominator in the running game...Intense and fiery...Good athletic ability for his size...Explosive out of his stance...Will not get pushed around.

Weaknesses: Has some character questions...Has been known to lose his cool on the field and has been suspended for kicking opposing players in the face during a game...Immature...Struggles in space...Needs to get better technically and plays too high.

Notes: You certainly never condone the type of violence on the field he has gotten in trouble for, but you can bet some coaches will love his intensity...If you are looking for a massive, dominating run blocker a la David Dixon then this is your guy...Has a brother that plays for the Baltimore Ravens.

Younger Verision of Dixon?

My take is: The guy I targeted was Mankis but he went 2 spots before. . I consider about 3 OG and 3 Safeties with this pick. By far my toughest pick in the draft.

We are now taking all offers for O. Smith, Cambell, K. Mixon and M. Robinson.

Barring a trade the Vikings Draft is done. Will write summary soon.

With the 17th pick in the 3rd round, the St. Louis Rams select

OG Evan Mathis U. of Alabama

He is rising fast on draft boards, as among OG's in this class, he was arguably the top performer @ the Combine.

Among OGs

1st in the 40

1st in the 20

1st in the 10

1st in the broad jump

1sr in the shuttle

1st in the cone drill

2nd in the bench press

2nd in the vertical leap

7th in the Wonderlic (25)

He will more than likely take over in midseason for Scott Tercero, but wwill be given the opportunity to win the job in training camp.

The Saints will take:

J.R.Russell, WR, Louisville

With Horn aging and the release of Pathon, the Saints need some WR depth. Russell possesses a nice combination of size and speed (6-3, 4.55) that should aide him in becoming a valuable NFL receiver.

Cincy - James Butler, SS, Georgia Tech

I'm surprised he made it half way into the 3rd. I've seen many mixed feeling on Butler (early 2nd round - early 4th round) but Cincy will love to take a chance on this extremely athletic safety here.

COMBINE:

H - 6'1.7"

W - 213 lbs.

40 - 4.51

Vert - 40.5"

broad - 10'7"

PRO DAY:

H - 6'1.7"

W - 213 lbs.

40 - 4.54

Vert - 44"

broad - 10'8"

PHI has lots of picks and would like to trade them to get an additional 3rd rounder if possible. PM me with offers.I would also look at adding a high 4th rounder.

With the 86th pick, the Buffalo Bills select

Joel Dreesen, TE, Colorado St

I love this guy and think he'd be a perfect fit for the Bills. He's a blue collar player who works hard, is a solid blocker, and has enough athletic ability to make plays in the passing game. He had a strong Senior Bowl week and looked great at the combine. With the Bills top-2 TEs both currently rehabilitating from serious knee injuries, this is a huge need. If he can prove himself a capable blocker in training camp, Dreesen should be able to compete for a starting job right away. At worse, he should see time as a receiving TE in 2 TE formations, and will give JP Losman another reliable weapon in the passing game. Adding a TE like this should help the running game and the passing game, and I would not be surprised at all if the Bills called his name in the 3rd round on draft day.

With the 87th pick of the (mock) NFL draft, Jacksonville selects...

Michael Munoz

OT | (6'5", 306, 5.4) | Tennessee

(snip from Scouts Inc.)

Strengths: Has very good overall size and frame. Is technically sound. Takes very good angles and consistently will get in position as a run blocker. Has adequate mobility. Does a better job as a downfield blocker than his recorded speed would indicate. He takes good angles, has good initial quickness and is fluid. Will get out and cut linebackers in space. Is a savvy player. Plays with leverage, uses his hands well and does a good job of locking on, driving his legs and working to finish. He has a quick set in pass pro. Has long arms, great hand placement, and does a very good job of stonewalling edge rushers. Is a good athlete for his size, as well. He plays with balance and leverage. Is able to get set versus top edge rushers and also has the athletic ability to re-direct back inside versus the double move.

He's slipped due to some durability problems, but has shown excellent ability to come back from various knee and shoulder problems. He's got some improvement to do on his run blocking, but should develop nicely and give some competition to Pearson at LT (and hopefully take over or at least be ready if/when Pearson gets injured).

Edit: The other OT's left around on my board at this point were Pete McMahon from Iowa and Chris Colmer of North Carolina. Both are more projected to be RT's due to limited athleticism. I've got Mo Williams who is developing nicely at RT, so really wanted to nab someone to grow into a LT. With Munoz's pedigree, it was an easy pick.

Open Vote for NYJ's pick:I'll nominate Roscoe Parish (WR, Miami). Jets got CB in 1st and TE in 2nd. Not familiar with their needs, but with Coles and McCairens, I could see the Jets looking to add a speed WR (Coles might be this, but his foot really scares me). Do they have needs at DL anywhere, is there enough talent left to justify a pick at DL?

Jon Babineaux IOWA DT is the Jets pick.

Diablo is up - PM'd

cochise is on deck - PM'd

football jones on double deck - PM'd

Well still some holes to fill on the defense while also looking over the O-line at the OG and Center positions to fill a spot or two. DE is still looking for a little depth or a situational pass rusher but no value at any of those spots so no need in reaching.

Where the value really does present itself is at CB. The Packers also need an explosive returner as well to give them better field position along with a solid nickel or dime defender to develop. Shazor may eventually move to the WILL spot depending on how his production in camp comes along.

The Packers selectAntonio Perkins, CB, Oklahoma

Though he may have a little history of injury, when he sets foot on the field as a punt returner he makes things happen. He will also battle for the nickel spot right away as our young CBs haven't developed like they should.

Rian Wallace LB TEMPLE
2nd That. Getting Harder to find consensus on each prospect. Have 2 publications that say his either 5 or 6th best at OLB and 2 others that have ranked 13 best and 2nd day choice. I think this is where team Scout Directors make there $$.

So that's Antonio Perkins to GB and Wallace to ATL. Front page needs to be updated - it has Wallace to GB and Perkins absent....

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

3.91: Ray Willis, G/T, Florida State

I tried to take him with my first pick of the 3rd round, but missed the deadline & you guys took Wilkerson for me (which was fine). I wanted the first day to be about offense. My goals were to get a couple of playmakers & a couple of OL. I feel like I suceeded with Ronnie Brown/Matt Jones & Ben Wilkerson/Ray Willis.

Willis isn't normally projected at G, but after the Wilkerson pick, I wanted to draft the best RG prospect & that was Ray Willis. He'll easily make the transition to G, IMO. Willis is very strong & a good technician. I believe he'll play at a high level for a long time.

7 Minnesota Cedric Benson RB TEX

18 Minnesota Mark Clayton WR OU

37 Minnesota Kevin Burnett LB TENN

49 Minnesota Mike Nugent K OSU

80 Minnesota Chris Kemoeatu OG Utah

Mike Tice quote as saying "Benson will give us RB that can ran the Football 20-25 game. This giving a balanced offense with C-Pep passing to Nate, Taylor and Clayton all 3 have enough speed to make that special play. Burnett cost a lot to to secure. (Bennett,4th and 5th) That's how much we think of this guy. He might be better then DJ! I truely feel that this draft will be made or brake on how Brunett and Nugent work out for us. Kemoeatu will have chance to back up both guard spots this year."

Reporter: Lot's of fans are disappointed that you did not take a defense of player in the 1st round?

I felt that we have improved or defense enough via FA. On top of that Burnett is 1st round talent and was the SOD. Do not be surprised if add more depth to the team via FA after the June 1st cuts.

How could you pass up a play maker like Edwards when traded your only other play maker in Randy Moss?

What your telling me that Burlson, Benson and Clayton are not play makers on Offense? D. Shapper and Smoot are not play makers on defense. Sounds to me like we have 5 play makes not just 1!

Do you think you can win the NFC North?

You think we traded Randy Moss to with the NFC North? We traded Randy Moss to win the Super Bowl

Can we get tickets for that super bowl from you?

You guys are incredible!!! This interview is over.

Local Vikings insider:

Man the media going to take cheep shots at Mike all year. I hope it does not over shadow the Vikings overhaul in to a legitimate Super bowl contender.

Pos...............................................Grade

QB: Pepper and Johnson...............A......... Great Starter and Great Backup

RB: Benson,Osmith,Moore,Moe.........A......... Still a Ton of Depth and New workhorse in the house

WR: Nate,Taylor,Clayton,Robinson.........B......... No Randy but still enough fire power to get the job done.

TE: Wiggins and Jimmy...................B.........Great Block Catch Combo

OL: OG is the ?.............................B......... Can Goldburg,Liwinski and Kemoeatu man the OG spots?

DL: Scott and Udze in 2nd year......... B+......... With Johnstone playing passing downs this line is top notch.

LB: Harris,Cowart,Burnett......... B- ......... This is big upgrade with Henderson and Thomas as backups.

DB: Smoot,Winfield,Williams ......... B+ ......... 2 Very good corners with good to very good nickel guy.

S : Shaper and Cory C. ......... B-......... Both are getting older. But they should be beter then last

K : Nuggent ......................... B ......... Rookie kickers need a year to ajust.

P : Bennet ........................ B ......... Needs to get back to his pro bowl form.

Overall : Offense is A- and Defense is B. Last year I would have put Phily in the category with NE benign a B+ and B+, Pitt c+ and A. So this puts MN in top 4 teams in the NFL.

Predictions: 12-4 NFC Championship game loss to the Eagles 24-23 as Nugget miss 1st big kick as rookie.

Evilgrin told me that he is going to take Jerome Mathis WR HAMPTON with this pick so CHAOS is up.

jgb95

Probably need to go WR here with Freddie X likely gone and TO starting to shoot off. McMullen and Greg Lewis are not the backups you like to see with STinkston.

So PHI selects Mark Bradley, WR OK

PHI is aggressively seeking to move up in the 4th round. If you are interested at all lets discuss it!!!!

Write-up on Mathis....

Pick #93 Jerome Mathis, WR, Hampton

The Steelers run-oriented offense stalls when an adequate deep threat to stretch the field is missing. This is where Burress' value was to the offense, more so than in his numbers. Randle-El is more quick than fast, and isn't going to command double teams down the field. Mathis would. The guy is not big, at 5' 11" 185 lbs, but he is fast. And I mean, greasy fast, as Mickey Goldmill would say. He ran a legitimate 4.31 at the combine, one of the fastest times ever recorded. He is clearly raw, and drops too many balls, but would be able to contribute immediately as a 4th receiver and on special teams, and has as much upside as any receiver in this draft. He could potentially be a Joe Horn/Lee Evans type who could go for 1300 and 9 TDs every year. This is far from a sure thing, but in round 3, we can take a shot. With Ward, Randle-El, and Wilson in the fold, Mathis could spend a year learning the game and working on his route-running and hands before being thrown into the fire in a full-time role.

Some numbers to show how raw but talented this guy is. Granted, this is against lower-level competition, but still.....

For his CAREER at Hampton, he averaged 26.4 yards per catch and 9.1 yards per carry. Averaged 35.5 yards per return taking kicks back his senior year and returned 5 for TDs. Averaged 30 yards per catch his senior year and had 9 TDs on 29 receptions. For his career, he had only 136 touches (rushing and receiving) and scored 24 TDs. Incredibly raw, but certainly a dynamic playmaker.

As a fellow Steeler addict, I'd be pretty happy if the real draft went this way. Mathis in the 3rd would be a steal. My ideal draft would have one one the top rated 3-4 type DEs falling to us at 30, OG, Chris Keamatu in the 2nd & Mathis in the 3rd.

Had Shaun Cody been there at #30 - this is EXACTLY how my draft would have gone.

I think Anthony Alabi from TCU might be rated higher so my vote is for him.
