6 yr. old alone in runaway experimental balloon (1 Viewer)

this is truly unbelievable i hope they can somehow manage to get that kid out safely or land safely. do they have communication with him?
No communication with the kid. I don't see how they can rescue him :(
Tough to imagine how they could.I don't know enough about how a helicopter works to know if it would be safe/possible to hover above the craft, and either lower someone or lower ropes to reel it in.I'd be concerned with the downdraft from the helo causing the craft to crash.

1 helicopter

3 or 4 jets and a large net.

Connect a large net along side the 3 or 4 jets. Have the jets fly under the balloon while the helicopter above shoots it down.

I have a Curious George helium foil birthday balloon in our house from August 8th and it still hasn't come down yet... this could go on for a while.

Officer just said he is still in the basket. No idea how they can confirm this but that's what they said.

If the kid is still in the balloon they need to get some PJ's to him in a helo stat before this ends badly, I am really hoping the kid is still in the balloon, not following on CNN from my office.

Schlzm

I really feel ill thinking about him jumping.

I cannot even believe how quickly I've become emotionally invested in this story.

And I don't even have kids.

:lmao: :( :(

CNN feed is showing it from above so there's some aircraft right with him now. Even looks to be descending.

Early report that the child has fallen out - unconfirmed.
Which channel is reporting this? What gives them that thought?
CNN - I'm not vouching for it - it's unconfirmed.
I don't see any mention at all of this on CNN.
I'm watching CNN (the TV station, not online) right now and they are still talking about the rescue mission and the Blackhawk helicopter coming into the area. No mention at all of this.

OK, now they're talking to a guy who thinks the kid is no longer onboard based on the way the balloon is flying.

They haven't mentioned it again - it's a developing story, so a lot of the information is fluid and subject to change with updates.
